This place is a must visit when you are coming down to the Outer Banks. In the off season fishing is free. They have a private lot. The pier sits right in the beach. Come at sunset on a good day and you'll get a great photo moment. If we want a decadent meal of our favorite fried foods, then we come here. The dood is freshly fried, no soggy food here. Our Daves are their huge basket of fries. The onion rings were so deliciously crunchy. They serve beer and wine. In the off season, they have drink specials as low as $3 for standard beer and $5 for a nice craft. Staff is always friendly. Follow their social media because there's either a band or open mic or karaoke. read more

Nothing special, very crowded with fisherman but cool spot for sunsets (and I guess fishing!) if you don't mind the crowdedness, this is a good spot for a walk or sitting on a bench if one is not being occupied. read more

Awesome local Pier, been going since the 80's. Food is great! We don't fish but enjoy watching it happen, probably the best pier in the OBX! Only problem is the arcade, extremely outdated, needs major updates, half the games are out of order. Staff is super friendly! Cheers to the chef! read more

The Avalon pier in Kill Devil Hills is very unique it has not only a family atmosphere but the locals are like a family as well. There are games for the kids and inexpensive food you can buy also beer wine soda etc. just a really cool place to hang out especially when there's live music at night and you're right there on the ocean read more

We went to the bar on top. We would probably give this establishment a 5 * rating for the awesome views, amazing breeze and cool ambience but have to deduct 2 stars. One * because there is only beer and a limited selection of wines in a can; one * because the wine and beer are served in cheap plastic cups. Drinking prosecco out of a clear solo cup just didn't seem right! The prices were steep as well. A can of PBR was $5.50 and my husband was served a semi-cold Blue Moon. However, we would recommend coming here for the view alone. read more

Cool little beach bar and pier. Food was pretty good. Food and drinks were expensive though.

Decided to go fishing on a very windy and cold day, so not too many people on the pier. I liked that there is a bar/restaurant area inside where you can warm up. Looks like there are some video games for kids as well. The pier has communal baskets to help haul up your catch and there are also fish cleaning stations with brushes. Watch your bait as the birds know there are free eats. $12 to fish all day and $2 to watch. A great area to fish if you're in the neighborhood. read more

We check this place out in the whim. Sat down at the bar ordered some 1 beer,b2 sodas, and 5 or 6 mixed drinks. Ordered the clam strip basket, fish basket, and wings. All were great! Prices were really good for the area. Above was about $70.00 most places that would just be for the drinks. Mixed drinks were on the small end but we're perfic size for the price. Staff was great. The place was clean & has tones of coin-operated games for the kids. Also you can rent fishing gear, buy bait, and pay to fish off the pier. great place for fishermen to spend the day. read more

Came here with my group for a bite to eat around dinner time. We were happy with how short the wait was, and were able to sit outside overlooking the ocean... not so thrilled about the service. We had to ask for menus, and weren't told that we must order our food from the bar. The waitress seemed very busy, and kept dropping our food off for the bartender to take to us. The bartender seemed a little preoccupied with his own interests, and we had to grab the food from the bar ourselves. The food was as you'd expect from a pier - nothing special, but also nothing I'd turn my nose from. I went with chicken tenders, thinking you can't go wrong with those. I was pleased to be right about that. There were a few arcade games inside, as well as live music. It wasn't very clean, but the lighting made it harder to tell. Favorite vacation activity for 30 years. Morning fishing is fantastic. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Can't beat it.

Clearly a local hangout where tourist are welcome. Very dog friendly. Live music often. Decent prices for beer and bar food and laid back hang out spot. Noisy but friendly bar with older kid family friendly activities (arcade and fishing). read more

There is an arcade and a bar when you walk into the fishing pier. The bar has a nice atmosphere. The best part about the bar is the fact that some people brought their dogs there. This makes the atmosphere even more pleasant. It's nice to drink a beer and see some dogs walking around. I wish more places would allow dogs at bars. read more

Well it's all here ... Fishing , arcade , large bar area even a snack bar ! If the kids get bored because the aren't biting yet send them into play the variety of arcade games. There a nice bar area to celebrate the Big One that didn't get away!!! You will pay for parking and fishing on the pier $10.00 each . You can walk out on the pier for $2.00. You can also get some snacks if you work up an appetite . Steamed shrimp cheeseburgers hotdogs chicken tacos and so forth . My husband use to come here as a teenager and yes they've upgraded since he was here. read more

My in-laws used to live here, and this pier became of favorite of my father-in-law. We recently visited during Fall Break early October. It's $10 for parking, $10 for a day of fishing, $2 for sightseeing only. In the words of their sign "yes, really $2 for sightseeing". Inside is an arcade with old machines that dispense tickets, a counter with the prices for the tickets, an ATM, a change machine (for the arcade), pool table, TV, "bar", and Ogre's food stand. The vibe is generally grumpy, not customer-focused. Bathrooms are what you'd expect from a well-worn pier. Many of the arcade games are broken (don't light up, won't dispense tickets, etc), and the ones that are working are far from shiny and new. But your kids won't mind. And if the machine keeps eating your money and you let the person at the counter know, they'll usually work with you. The prizes are the cheap plastic things that you'd expect for tickets that small children love. I haven't tried the food, but they do advertise that they use locally sourced ingredients where possible. There's a deck at the entrance, just off the parking lot, with a mostly obstructed view, but it's free. The sea oats being restored nearby, so there is extra fencing and signs to stay off. Once on the pier, there are spaces with sinks for cleaning your fish, benches along the way, and some tables/benches near the main building. read more

Parking here is free if you are fishing and $10.00 if you want beach access. Fishing on the pier is $8 a person or $3 just to visit. Sad to report I only caught a small flounder and fishing was kind of poor overall but that's the name of the game some days are good and some aren't. There is a small arcade and a bar. Pay $10 to park, pay $2 to enter the pier. I don't recall ever having to pay to walk on a pier. Still, a nice view and very serene atmosphere for relaxin. And of course, there's fishing if that's your thing. Inside there's an arcade and food. Hangout for the younger crowd at night. read more

This place kinda reminded me of stopping at South of the Border on the way to Myrtle Beach...it looks/sounds like it'd be a neat place to stop but once you get out of the car you realize the places hay day was probably back in the 80s/90s. Everything is pretty old and run down. Especially the pier itself. They charge $2 per person to go on the pier itself. (We didn't realize this until we were already inside) That irritated me but my cousin really wanted to check it out so he treated all 6 of us. He even convinced the woman collecting money to wave one of the fees for the kids which was nice. We grabbed a beer from the bar area (bud/Miller lite bottles were $4...not terrible but not great either) The pier reminded me of the scene from the movie Romancing the Stone or when Donkey tried to cross the bridge in Shrek. Every step I took the wood felt as if it was bending it was super soft and spongy almost. Factor in the ocean swaying which made it feel like the pier itself was moving made for a pretty freaky experience. I only made it half way out before my anxiety took over and I had to go back in. I will say this the views were gorgeous, if the bridge felt more safe I could've stayed all day! We all agreed they desperately need to use that $2 fee towards maintenance ASAP! Afterwards we headed inside where the kids played $10 worth of games, unfortunately most were broken or took their money so we had to ask for help to get their $ back. The games gave tickets for prizes and they did have a lot of small little trinkets that the kids were stoked about. The lady running it gave them a few extra tickets which was very nice of her. While we did have a memorable experience I probably wouldn't go back. We could see another pier out in the distance so maybe we'll drive a bit further next time and check that one out. read more

We came with the family to check out the pier and have a beer. There was an arcade- several machines/games didn't work properly, but the kids had a good time. My cousin didn't like how the pier wobbled. It didn't bother me (that made it more exciting), but if you aren't used to being out on the water or being far out on a pier, you may not like the wobble lol. The front desk lady was very nice and let my two little cousins on the pier for the price of one person ($2) instead of $2 each so that was nice too. read more

Nice place. Pricing is reasonable. We came two days and spent ~3 hours each day. We rented poles and bought bait/shrimp. Two sons fished one day, I fished (bought license online) plus son second day. Okay pier. Staff was very friendly to us. We caught 4 puffers. Small things, but fun for the kids. A gentlemen yesterday used a lite and caught a good bit more. We had fun. Great time for kids and I. Grumpy staff and trashy vibes! Sad effort (old crusty arcade type games) to make it kid friendly with old drunks who seem to live there and like I said grumpy staff. I call it the beer pier. Wouldn't recommend for family. Definitely a no go for little kids. It's a local hangout with drunks from all ages. Go early in the AM! The structure itself looks quite aged and potentially risky. I love this place. It leaves a lasting impression on you. The main building is a bait and tackle shop combined with a full-fledged arcade. There are a couple of (coin-operated, lame) pool tables, which is a plus. Beware, though: there are many stupid teens populating the area at night. They're all ghetto wanna-be's who are on vacation with their parents. Ignore them. The absolute best time to visit the pier is late at night, after 12:00 a.m. It is then that the pier is open to the public, at no cost. The setting is very ambient and soothing. The only sounds are those of the fishermen casting their reels, and the waves stirring around below. The long and crooked pier slightly sways back and forth with the tide. It's very cool. I wrote a screenplay, and part of it is set on the Avalon pier, just because of this late night effect. read more

The pier is nice; but the video game arcade is a JOKE. It's a bunch of old games, many of which are flat-out broken, malfunctioning, or poorly functioning. This fishing pier is awful! Me and Sandra broke the bank to come here just to fish and catch air and seaweed! I highly recommend you stay away from this dump. Unaware dumb people fish here thinking that there are actual fish however there are no fish nearby the pier. read more

Drunk people hanging around the foosball table at 12pm. Another bunch of our southern USA friends hanging out under the pier who were also fall down drunk at noon time. Overall, I felt like I was putting my life in danger being in this place at high noon on a Sunday. Do not let your children go here without a parent present. Just sayin. read more
