Well I've always said go big or go home, and we certainly did here. My friend and I were looking for a nice spot in Mougins, visiting for a wedding later that week. The clouds had just parted, the rain over, and it was time for some authentic French cuisine. The biggest seller at Aux Trois Etages, the terrace overlooking Mougins. A two top was available so we jumped at the opportunity. I felt a little self-conscious as we were a little underdressed, but it was after all a Tuesday evening, and light on diners.
A lovely thing about the French, and there are many lovely things, is they provide a pre-fix option instead of al la carte if you so desire. I had the goat cheese salad as a started, a duck l'orange dish as the main with various E countre Monts added to make it a pretty full meal. Paired with a regional rose, it was simply divine. We finished the evening with a chocolate cake with a melted center that dripped ever so slightly onto our plate. It was majestic to watch and delightful to eat. I could not have been happier with my experience.
In addition, Mougins is what you imagine every little French medieval village to be and more. Beautiful little streets that seem to pull you into a maze of ivy and history. I can't recommend it enough! I went to Nice and Cannes and neither were to my liking. Too much fakery and pomp, little substance of the French soul. I hope I may return once again. read more
