We started with Baked goat cheese in oven, came with warm fresh toast, fig compote... we shared this! It was plenty! We then opted for the 3 course meal at 34 Euro each.... Starter: one had 6 fabulous escargots, and I had a warm duck salad, with 3 kinds of duck, including a fois gras main :One has Entrecôte steak, which was an 8-10 oz filet mignon really, accompanied with choices of potatoes ...and large dish of bernaise sauce....I had duck breast w honey reduction and porcini mushrooms, accompanied w fresh green beans w pesto.... excellent! The owners wife was a one-woman show, who worked the entire restaurant, exemplifying her skills as a hostess, waitress, wine connoisseur, menu advisor and friend. She was very welcoming, entertaining and very helpful to us while we were there. And the wine she picked out for us was delicious. (She even helped us hail our Ubers at the end of the night, since all of us enjoyed a quite a bit of wine and could barely speak French). In addition to some of the best service we have ever received, the chef at Les Temps Des Mets is absolutely brilliant. All of us throughly enjoyed our meals, some of the most memorable being the spicy shrimp appetizers, sashimi style swordfish, shrimp lo mein, and tiramisu dessert. The old Lou Cigalon was a special place, but clearly the cost of staffing a restaurant to maintain his Michelin star drove him into bankruptcy. The good news is this lovely room in busy Valbonne has recently re-opened under new ownership and is well worth a visit for excellent food at a fair price. The new owners have been in business since summer 2010 and, to be honest, probably should have changed the name of the place. It is really no longer Lou Cigalon. But, what it is is quite good in its own right. Owned by a husband/wife (Maman et Pere) team (he cooks, she serves) the new owners provide a meal that is well prepared and even a bit innovative. We had Duck and Cod and both were delicious. Though, the duck might have benefited from a little more caramelization. The entrée was a duo of bacalao - Morue (dried cod) and Salmon. It was much lighter than the traditional potato & cream based bacalao and really delicious. Desert was a lovely bread pudding (a gateau Breton) of prunes. The service was friendly, but not intrusive, and the room remains exactly as it was before, charming and comfortable. In summary, while no longer a 1 star Gourmand experience, this is a delicious, above average, and very fairly priced (especially at lunch) respite from the usual tourist oriented fare that abounds in Valbonne.

These two amazing guys totally changed my and my wife's perspective about how other restaurants are run - especially when tipping here is more of a courtesy and in the states many restaurants just add 18% on to your bill for gratuity regardless of the service you got. I left the owner just 10 euros and he was so thankful and graciously declined but promised he'd give it to the kitchen staff when we insisted that we just had to appreciate them with a tip. Unreal, awesome, classy, can't wait to return.
