Always busy in the summer, mostly with British tourists. The place has somewhat lost its charm now that they have cut down the huge trees that gave one a pleasant shade during the daylight hours in summer. It must get really hot during the day now... I've only been at night since the trees were cut down.
I've been here for coffee, breakfast, lunch, tea-time, and supper... and I have found all experiences enjoyable. The staff can be iffy, depending on who waits on you, however, I have never had any problems. Service can be a bit slow on busy days, though the food tends to come out relatively quickly. I was pleasantly surprised last night when we got our food 15 minutes after ordering, despite the size of our party and the meals ordered.
The food isn't particularly special, but it is good. The pizzas are really tasty. Their portions are rather big, so two courses might be a bit excessive lest you are really hungry. Their deserts are pretty good, and they have a good selection of drinks. We went with a vegetarian friend, who had no trouble finding something suited to her palate.
To give you an idea, we were four, a course + desert each, with two people drinking aperitifs, and it came out to 100 euro even when the tip was included. Not bad for high season.
As for the ambiance... depending on when you go, it can be hell or great. They are located on the town square, so there's room for children to run around, and there is no traffic for parents to worry about. The tables are very close together however, so I find that sitting on the fringes is much better since 1) you don't get drowned out by the noise of nearby conversation, and 2) you don't suffocate given the huge number of smokers.
In fact, this place gets -1 star because it has no section for non smokers, and with the tables being so close, you might end up with a cloud of someone else's smoke around your head all evening. I always specify when I go, that I want on the outside fringe to avoid being uncomfortable. read more
