Like another reviewer, I was a regular customer of this tailor for over 25 years. I spent a good deal of money over that time but noticed the quality of the work going downhill while the prices increased and were not in line with other local tailors. Alas, I continued to go there because of convenience and what was familiar. I brought in two coats to have the linings repaired. Very simple hand repairs that I should have done myself. One of the items was a black cashmere full length coat. When I brought it in, I spoke with the shop owner and went over the areas I noticed needed stitching. I was looking for one area in particular that I remembered being in a sleeve near the cuff. I couldn't find it and asked more than once (in fact it was the last thing I requested before I left) if she would go over the entire coat and look for any other areas that needed repairs that I might have missed. She agreed, and wouldn't a skilled seamstress do that anyway? I picked it up the coats a couple of weeks later. The cashier handed them to me, uncovered, on old hangers. One of my coats was a sheared mink, hanging haphazardly off a wire hanger. The entire bottom of the black cashmere coat was covered in dog hair, lint, and dust as if it had been dragging on the floor. (The shopkeeper does have dogs running around.) I was charged $100.00 for both coats which shocked me because it was more than what she had quoted. I went home and looked over the coats and noticed the shoddy workmanship: poor stitching, fraying, loose threads and the cuff, of course, which had not been repaired. Because it was the holidays and I was leaving town, I did not go back until I returned. No one was at the counter when I arrived and I noticed how dirty the shop was and how badly it smelled. Eventually the shop owner emerged from the back. I was very pleasant since I thought she would certainly acknowledge what was overlooked and I had no reason to think she would react the way she did. When I showed it to her she began to argue with me and was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. As someone who has been in customer service for over 40 years, I would never treat a customer the way she did me. She insisted that I had not shown her the exact spot before and denied and argued that I had requested she go over the coat to look for anything I may have missed. She refused to make the very small repair. Worth it to to lose a good, loyal customer of 25+ years who has spent a ton of money and actually has several more items I planned on bringing in? Taking my business elsewhere and telling everyone I know to stay away. read more
