Walmart Auto Care Centers

9/5/2018 Walmart Auto Center 5pm…read more I went to Walmart for a reasonably priced battery and prompt, courteous installation. I regret my choice. 5 years ago I purchased a $60 battery for my car from Walmart in Arizona. I received a good value and fast installation. Recently I discovered that my battery was finally in need of replacement. I had priced it at AutoZone for approximately $120. I have always received excellent service from AutoZone and they are happy to complete small installations quickly at no extra charge. When the day came to replace the battery, I chose this Walmart location assuming I would find a battery priced close to $60 (certainly no more than $75) and receive the same great service I experienced in Arizona. WRONG! This Walmart carried only 1 brand of battery and charged $120. I was disappointed but decided to purchase from Walmart because I was already there, the automotive center did not appear busy, and I had an appointment nearby in 1-hour (6pm). I was told it may take 45 minutes. At 5:45 I began to observe the technicians in the shop. 3 gentlemen were gathered around a computer I thought they might be consulting on a repair, but the men began laughing and one started showing the others something on his cellphone I continued to watch them. Two of the men went to my car which had been inside the shop for 25 minutes with the hood up. *Only one other car was in the shop for an oil change. 2 technicians stood together at my vehicle chatting when one reached in and began turning a wrench on the battery. I hoped he was finishing the installation, but it became apparent he was only starting the removal of the old battery. I looked on in disbelief as the workers moved with a casual air, chatting and spitting snuff-spit into an open trash barrel. At 6:05 I was getting anxious due to being late for an appointment that was important to me and scheduled 3 weeks ago. The technician was checking the tire air pressure when I caught the supervisor and asked if the installation was complete and explained that I needed to leave. Even when I was clear about needing the employees to wrap things up quickly, no one seemed to exert any effort to be expedient. Employees plodded through the motions oblivious to my needs as the customer, and I detected a hint of sarcasm when the cashier remarked to no one in particular, "She's in a hurry." Was that a mocking tone in her voice? So, I will never bring my time and money to the Walmart again. I have already boycotted the store in general and now I add the automotive center to that list. Fortunately, AutoZone will gladly take me back. I am grateful for a corporate culture that values service with the sale and I will never again think of Walmart as a money or time value.
