I have seldom, if ever, posted an online review of any product or service I have purchased, but I do think the level of service I received from Autoworks on September 4 and 5, 2015 deserves special mention.
On September 4, after driving almost 3,000 miles over three weeks, staying overnight at 7 different locations to visit family and friends all along the east coast, and with my two children (but not my wife), I was about to begin the 1,000-mile drive home from Maine to Chicago. As I made my way out of Scarborough to I-95 south, all sorts of distressing lights and illuminated icons suddenly came up on the dashboard of my 2005 Toyota Prius, including a bright red exclamation-point hazard icon. On a day with temperatures soaring into the 80s, my car no longer had air conditioning or cruise control, and the car otherwise did not seem to perform as well. After I notified my wife in Chicago, my wife did some quick research online for a reputable, well-regarded garage in southern Maine that could service a hybrid vehicle, discovered Autoworks, confirmed it had availability, and arranged to have me drive there for service mid-afternoon that day. A half-hour later I drove our hot, stifling and slow Prius into Autoworks.
From the moment I arrived and explained my car's symptoms to Service Advisor Jeremy Maddox, I was put at ease. Jeremy assured me that Autoworks was hybrid-qualified, and that they'd be able to diagnose my car's trouble that day. Less than an hour later, they had: an auxiliary water pump was to blame. Although Autoworks could not replace the pump that day, Jeremy insisted the garage would have the repair completed the next day. With a long drive still ahead of me, two overtired kids anxious to get home, and school starting the day after Labor Day, this news came as a great psychological relief.
The replacement part did not arrive at Autoworks on time the next day, but the Autoworks mechanics - aware of my predicament - worked diligently to install it once it did. The garage also replaced an improperly installed - and therefore unreliable and unsafe - headlight, and changed the oil and filter. By 4 p.m. on Friday, less than 26 hours after my arrival, Autoworks had me back on the road again, the car washed and a complimentary container of breath mints in the console. The repairs weren't cheap (a good mechanic seldom is), but they were done property and on time, as Jeremy had promised.
I was impressed with and cannot speak highly enough of the level of service and professionalism I received from Autoworks last week, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. At a desperate time when I absolutely needed the car fixed quickly and correctly, Autoworks delivered. I especially appreciated the garage's ability and willingness to evaluate, diagnose and repair my car on such short notice. I shudder to think how much longer and more expensive and emotionally taxing the whole repair could have been (including possibly a rental car, more hotel rooms and restaurant tabs), had I gone somewhere else. read more
