I am so happy to have found a reliable and knowledgeable mechanic. I had a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee…read morethat kept having issues (RIP Lorraine, she saved us in the wreck, though). Phil came out to me and diagnosed my issue. He was thorough and took his time. Many mechanics rush in order to maximize their time, but Phil is methodical in his work. He even once talked me through fixing a coolant hose on the phone while I was on the side of the road because he was working on a vehicle at the time and couldn't come to me. WHO DOES THAT?! He and his wife even came out to me in a parking lot to diagnose and fix my jeep when it wasnt starting. (I loved that car but, man, did she have a lot of problems). He changed the brakes, the water pump & thermostat, any oil change, and fixed the AC. I appreciate the detailed messages he sends and transparent (and extremely fair) pricing. He never tries to upsell a service that's not needed and shows that he cares about you and your car. I can tell this isn't just a business to him, but a passion for helping people. I've been going to him for any service I need and recommend him to anyone I know who needs service. I now have an Audi Q5 and he can even service that vehicle which is amazing and rare to find. I don't see myself taking any car I own to anyone else. We all need a solid, dependable, honest, and fair mechanic in our crew so go to him. Thank you, Phil!

Had a great experience with this mechanic. I was working on my 2007 Tahoe trying to diagnose a…read moretransmission issue and got stuck when the pan wouldn't come off due to clearance problems. He came out, took his time, and really worked through it instead of rushing. You can tell he actually cares about doing things the right way. He got everything apart, helped swap out the solenoids, filter, and put everything back together clean. Even though we ended up confirming it's likely a deeper internal issue (3-4 clutch pack), I really appreciated his honesty and thoroughness instead of just throwing parts at it. His pricing was more than fair, especially considering how much time he spent on it. Hard to find someone that detailed and patient these days. Definitely recommend if you need a solid, knowledgeable mechanic who won't cut corners. I will be using him for ANY future needs.

BG Automotive? More like "BS" Automotive. The one star is for an oil change (since 0 stars is not…read morean option). BG Auto IS SHADY, smooth talking for sure, but A RIP OFF. STAY AWAY. This is a lengthy description, but it's not half the story. To all the glowing 5 star reviewers - check your invoices. The problem started with their "courtesy inspection" accompanying the oil change, where half of their recommendations (deemed red flag "Requires Immediate Attention") ultimately turned out to be mostly unnecessary and absurdly expensive. That became apparent only after paying. My bad, of course, I obviously should have asked to see a detailed estimate prior to the work. The initial estimate did not provide parts or labor detail & appeared to indicate the work was part of a "complete tune up." Upon dropping off the truck, "Service Advisor"Jesse stated that Champion copper spark plugs had been factory installed on 2013 RAM 2500s, so that was best & what BG would install. Classic BAIT & SWITCH: BG charged $508.48 for a set of 16 plugs! When I challenged the bill, asking if "kryptonite plugs" were installed instead, Jesse indicated, no, the copper plugs were used... then he checked his computer & stated, actually no, in fact the [far] more expensive NKG iridium plugs were installed. "They're much better because they last up to 100,000 miles," he emphasized. I replied, "Great. BG just changed out NGK iridium plugs that had been in the engine already, with only 60,000 miles on them." The WORK WAS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. Also on the bill was a "TOTAL FEES" charge of $175.77 (yes, that specific), but with ZERO DETAIL of what those fees were for or how they were calculated. Jesse couldn't provide that detail either, "It could be shop supplies, or hazardous disposal - you know, those state regulations - it could be almost anything." Note there were no hazardous materials involved with this work, such as a tire or battery disposal fee. (Google search indicates: In Colorado, shop fees are usually calculated as a percentage of the labor cost (e.g., 5-10%) and are often capped at a maximum amount (e.g., $25 to $50). Also, Colorado statute requires the repair invoice to have some kind of description of these fees, and further, "a description of each part by name and identifying number." Nowhere on the invoice was the type of plugs installed specified, either. You get NADA DETAIL from BS Automotive. Finally, while repair shops typically mark up parts 70-100% of wholesale price, BG is marking up parts in the ballpark of 100% of retail price. (If you can pry out of them the parts brand they say they'll use, you can easily verify this with a Google search at their counter.) They should be ashamed and embarrassed for what they're charging the hardworking folks of Longmont. When pressed to justify the charges, Jesse insisted they were competitive, "within 5% of other local repair shops." More BS. Comparing apples to apples (parts & labor only), the local dealership quoted over $200 less, the Loveland repair shop I've frequented in the past was over $400 less (obviously, checked after the fact...). If the handful of other shops Jesse quoted are actually within 5%, they are ripping us off too. Jesse would not budge on the final bill, but he did offer to comp me an oil change. As if! I had already told him I would never set foot in BG Automotive again. However, I would take a call from the BG Automotive (Owner) to provide the rest of the story about this pathetic BG encounter.

Price: The Subaru dealership had given me a quote to do the job on the breaks. EAS quoted me higher than the dealer by about $75-$100 - that's very pricy if you have an idea of what the Subaru dealership quotes for services. I told them that it would be cheaper to do it at the dealership and the guy helping me immediately said "oh, we'll match the dealership price- how much would they do it for?" ...really man? Why would I want you to match the price the dealership is charging? I told them they would have to beat the price of the dealer because I knew that Subaru would use OEM parts and have them up to factory specs. He agreed to give me a discout that dropped their quote to maybe $50 lower than the dealership quote. Not great but I agreed for some reason- maybe they were worth it. He assured me that they use Napa parts which were really good. He then went to the back for a while and when he returned he said "we're out of the Napa parts, but we use this other brand which is just as good and even a better deal." ... Better deal? For whom? This discovery did not lead to any reduction of cost to me. Seems like this company will highball you on the price but they will price match something lower so if you do come here make sure to find the lowest quote around before haggling with them.

Got it back after a few short days and will be getting some further work done as time goes on. This truck had belonged to my former landlord whereupon his daughter sold it to me as the old boy had gone to a retirement facility. In his later years maintenance and repairs had been let go but being sturdy and strong running, I bought it and am slowly bringing it up to snuff and it is good in the event I should need to do any long distance traveling with it. . Attended the new shop opening, located just off I-25 and Colorado route 66, where I met Mr. Maggio's family and some of the other customers who call Hands On Autotech their home for vehicle repair and servicing. I first went there based on the recommendation of the Martino troubleshooter show on 630 KHOW AM radio; 10 AM - 2PM, M-F. My opinion is that Tom's shop takes something of a scientific approach to vehicle repair and will go more in depth with an analyses than another shop I had been to for an issue with my '99 Tahoe. As an EV owner himself I gather that Tom is up on the current tech, perhaps more than some other places who would have men of my age (68) from the "dinosaur era" of automotive tech working at their shops.

There was a problem with the communication surrounding the tow transfer so I started my experience with Hands on Auto Tech with some trepidation. Tom handled the situation and we moved onto the real problem with my truck. The diagnosis was the clutch so I approved the repair and waited a few days for the parts to arrive and the repair to proceed. After the clutch was replaced another problem with the operation of the clutch was discovered so I agreed to the additional repair and another day for repair. After a week I was reunited with my truck. The repair was costly, lengthy and unexpected but coming out the other side of this experience I learned a couple of lessons. 1. If you have your vehicle towed to a shop follow the tow truck to the shop and verify the transfer. 2. Communication and follow up throughout the repair are key Tom was great to deal with and I feel that he was honest with me about the repairs needed and the cost of those repairs. Having recently moved to the area I feel my vehicle maintenance and repair needs can be checked off the list. I can recommend Hands on Auto Tech to anyone needing an honest repair facility and Tom as a good guy to deal with.
