This review is for the used car service center and if it was possible I would have given zero stars. I bought my car in February 2025. When I got it I noticed the heater wasn't working properly. I took it to them less than a week after as they told me to check it and they said they will have to switch a part out. The service agent then tells me that I should go and pay Kia to repair it because they can't order the part because they owe Kia money. I told them to take care of that issue and to call me when they can order the part so they can repair it. They never reached out, I reached out to the service person in October, he replied to my text by saying they still couldn't get the part and to go through Kia which would cost me $250 just to inspect. I told him to have the manger call me and now it's December and still no call. I now fixed the issue on my own. Very bad costumer service! **Update** 12/11: I changed from one start to five stars because the service manager Carlos called me. We were able this speak and I finished the conversation feeling really satisfied with the resolution. Everyone makes mistakes and I am glad we were able to get past this one. Do not let Bryant be your service advisor at Hayward Toyota. I am utterly flabbergasted at how unwilling he was to help, incompetent, and sleezy he was. Reason I brought my car in: hit a pothole, bent the wheel, got a bubble in tire. I have the Autonation tire and wheel protection service. I called both the dealer and autonation multiple times throughout the week to ensure this would be covered. I pulled up to the service center at my appointment time - 8am. Someone checks me in and informs me Bryant will take care of me today. I wait about 10 minutes for him to come out. When he does, he asks me if I'm here for routine service. That was the first red flag because I was very clear about the reason I was there but okay whatever I can let that go. I explain my issue with the tire. He asks me if I have the Autonation tire and wheel protection. I tell him yes. He right off the bat tells me they probably won't cover it because "it's not leaking enough". 2nd red flag. Then we go inside and he tries to order me a $240 tire. And the whole time he keeps telling me autonation probably won't cover this. Remember, I had called them and the dealer multiple times during the week about my issue. I tell him this and tell I'm getting frustrated because I had already done the leg work and now he's telling me it won't be covered. I ask if there's a cheaper tire and he says no. I say, I don't need anything rated for over 150mph, I just need the same tread rating. He says there's nothing cheaper because they buy name brand and "not whatever you have on your car". Then he proceeds to list all the different name brand tires he knows. Mind you these are the tires that came with my car when I purchased it from this exact dealership. I say fine and he says he will "try" to file the claim but it mostly likely won't be approved but he will call to let me know and I'm free to go. I leave and call autonation myself to ask them about my situation and to make sure Bryant put in a claim. Autonation said he did but they're still waiting on pictures. Okay no problem. It's 11:45 now and I get a call. It's Bryant. He tells me autonation denied my claim. I immediately tell him i have to call him back. I call autonation to see if it was denied. They tell me that they haven't deliberated yet because the dealer hasn't sent them pictures. I also ask them if they would deny a claim because the tire is not leaking enough even though there's a bubble. They say no that's clearly a safety issue and the only reason why it'd be denied is if the tires were basically bald and/or it showed negligence on my end. I call Bryant back and ask about what he said. He tells me "it's not denied, but they will probably deny it". I tell him "well autonation is telling me you haven't submitted the photos yet". He says "well I'm telling you they're gonna deny it because there isn't a big enough leak" and he tries to squeeze something in about how I should just go with what he's telling me and move forward with the purchase. I said "well how do you know they'll deny it if you haven't submitted the photos yet?" He goes "well I'll submit them if you want me to"....what do you me if I want you to... that's the whole reason I'm here! I said "I don't understand why you haven't done it yet. I dropped off my vehicle at 8am and it's now 11:55". He goes "I'll submit them" in a very short manner like he's annoyed with me. THANK YOU!! YES PLEASE SUBMIT THEM. And like why are you annoyed with me?? Just do your job. Then at 12:30 they tell me my car will be ready at 2 and it was. When I arrived, Bryant was nowhere to be seen and sure enough Autonation covered the replacement. Side note: he told me autonation will most likely deny so I should just go ahead with service regardless and tried to tell me the tire would be $240 something. The invoice says the tire is $186 not $240. He told me he could get it down to $210 without labor and maybe knock off and additional 10%. That still would've been more expensive than the cost of the tire. It was all just BS. There was also a thing he said where autonation takes forever to deliberate on a claim and I'll probably have to leave my car over the weekend. Like bro what. I didn't know it then but now that it's over, autonation took 30 minutes to approve. Bryant was the one who took 3 hours to submit the photos to them. Also!!! The whole reason I went with Hayward Toyota is because they are owned by Autonation so I thought it would be a lot easier. I just honestly can't believe how badly he wanted to screw me over. First mistake was buying my car from them. The rest of the mistakes was coming back for service. This is like the fourth time I had no choice to come to the hayward autonation car service and yet again not a great service. I usually go to the one in Oakland. One Toyota of Oakland. They are way more organized there when it comes to pulling up and having someone greet you right away. The set up is better for "walk-ins" and people with appointments. At Autonation hayward you just drive up and hope someone comes to you in a timely manner. Every single time I've been here with an appointment it takes up to 20 minutes to even get seen/checked in. There is no system and they just go to anyone. But, I recently had no choice to go here again on 1-7-26 and I came in for routine maintenance for my Rav4 2022. The salesperson upsold me on some stuff I assumed I needed per his recommendation and later realized I did not need it. He recommended I get Ethanol Corrosion inhibitor and proform engine crankcase fuel system cleaning. While I waited I did some quick research and realized I did not need those services. I went and spoke with the salesperson and he said "it was too late to remove it" I asked if he was sure that they didn't start work he said yes. But, he didn't even radio anyone or really try to confirm whether they started working on my vehicle or not. He just said twice he assumes they did already. I also noticed that there was a charge for something I didn't even ask for nor did he mention it. It was for windshield wiper fluid. He said he was going to remove it from the bill and I quote "it's only a $3 charge" Um, okay, I still didn't need nor want it. Needless to say, he did NOT remove it from the bill and I was charged for it. Knowing my car is only 3 years old and in good condition I'm not sure why he even recommended something he knew I didn't need. It was $181 so it's not like it was a small priced service. I paid the price and did not want to argue because I should have rejected and did my research before I agreed but, I do not feel like he was willing to try and help me out and cancel the work he knew I did not need.Now, my car squeaks when I back up. Something that didn't happen before I even took my car in. No customer service and overall they just try and get your money. This is the last time I will be coming here. Part of my rating has to do with which service writer you get. I agree with Mario E. that if you make an appointment at the Hayward location you have to wait till someone gets you checked in. I have been checked in once out of 10 times at my appointment time. Recall that your appointment time simply means you are on THEIR schedule to have your car in the line at that time. Also watch out for "upsells". I used to work as a mechanic and anything that gets poured into your gas tank like a detergent from a bottle is very probably unnecessary. I cannot speak to Mario E.'s experience with Ethanol Corrosion Inhibitor, but I do know that CA gas does include 10-15% of ethanol. I personally had a service writer try to upsell me an alignment on brand-new tires I had installed elsewhere. I had to explain to the service writer that there were no signs of need for an alignment on my vehicle. So I would pass at this time. read more

I want to start by saying that Raffi was great to work with -- very polite, respectful, and easy to talk to. He did his part well and left a positive impression. Unfortunately, my experience with the other two representatives I spoke with was the complete opposite. I was told I would receive a call back within 10 minutes, but over 8 hours passed and no one ever followed up. There was zero communication after that, despite me waiting and expecting a call. Good customer service requires follow-through, and that was missing here. Raffi deserves credit, but the lack of communication from others really hurt the overall experience. read more

It went well, always has! First off, saw my dashboard that i need an oil change. Good for me i purchased the "Toyota Care" of my car and have an extra 2 more years to have extra maintenance on my car. I usually go online and get an appointment the next day. Sweet! Drop off my car that morning and talk to the service advisor " Sammy", well versed and informative. And he discussed what has to be done on my car not just an oil change but they did a 60,000 mile check up on my car, and it will take 2 hours. So i waited, got a free complimentary hot drinks by the lounge, Nice! They usually informed you via a text or email, now they enhanced the features. The mechanics will send you a mini video om what he has done on your car in real time which is cool. All in all, i am satisfied on what Toyota Autonation Hayward done, keep up the good work! We've been long-time customers of Toyota Hayward, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. We came in only for an oil change, but were charged almost $400 for services that were unnecessary, while a basic recommended maintenance item -- the engine air filter -- was not replaced. Our car has around 35,000 miles. According to Toyota's maintenance guidelines, the engine air filter should be replaced between 15,000-30,000 miles. Despite this, the service advisor Rosie said it was "not recommended at this time," even after my dad specifically asked for it to be changed. She stated she "cleaned" it instead, while other non-essential services were sold and charged. Because of a language barrier, my parents relied on the advisor's guidance and later realized the services didn't align with Toyota's recommendations. It felt misleading and disrespectful -- especially for loyal customers. This is not the level of honesty or transparency we expect from a Toyota dealership. Very disappointing. read more

We bought a new Toyota Corolla here and had a mostly seamless experience. This car dealership offered a small discount to Costco members, so we chose this location. We did our research, knew the trim we wanted, and negotiated the price prior to getting to the dealership to purchase a specific VIN. We worked with Vinnie from Sales and John from Finance; both were professional and we never felt pressured. Even so, it still took us 3 hours from start to finish. 1 star off: Even though we already negotiated on price, they sneaked in $600 for a ceramic tint for the back windows. It was written as "Buyer-requested option" on the pricing sheet, even though we never requested it. We brought it up and they removed that charge. Review. The. Paperwork. 1 star off: We took in our old car for trade-in and the price they offered was extremely low. The appraiser said there was something wrong with the transmission. We have taken meticulous care of this car and a transmission problem was never brought up at any of the regular check-ups. We had the car appraised by two others and no one thought there was a transmission problem. We think AutoNation made up an excuse to low-ball us for the trade-in value. We ended up selling our old car elsewhere and got almost twice what AutoNation quoted us! I have always thought I spend too much at Costco. Now this new car is the most expensive item I have purchased with my Costco card. read more

Recently tried to sell my car - it was in great condition and fully loaded (self parking, seatbelt airbags, auto braking/cruise) with low 56k miles - but wasn't perfect. I had enough of dealing with the Craigslist and Facebook shoppers and decided I wanted it gone I think mostly so I could see what else the automotive world had to offer. Like anybody I shopped around and got quotes from 4 different dealers. Its not that difficult these days you just go online add all the details and get a quote emailed that is contingent on in person inspections. Selling your car to a dealer isn't the way to get top dollar but it was a high enough dollar amount I really didn't want to deal with it in cash or deal with possibly fraudulent cashiers checks from some guy off Craigslist. I'm ok with selling a $3000 junker myself but this car was way more than that. I even went so far as to check with a consignment lot. The consignment lot would show it. I would be responsible for the car during test drives. A third party would take care of financing. A fourth business "keysavvy" would take care of title and payment.... And the Federal government - a fifth entity involved with the transaction - would pay keysavvy $4000 for the EV rebate. All this sounded like too much nonsense to me and I just wanted the car gone. Justin I have to say was an outstanding sales guy. To the point and no nonsense. He heard that I had a paper offer from Carmax and spoke to me in a manner that I really liked - no games. I ended up selling to Carvana as they really wanted the car and were willing to pay far beyond Carmax's offer as they had the most experience with the EV $4000 rebate for the next owner. Since I bought it in 2017 it was eligible for the new owner since there were no other changes of ownership since. That was golden. In short I have had a great interaction with these guys and wouldn't hesitate to buy a car from Justin just based on the brief interaction I had. read more

Day 2 we came back, waited 2 more hours, we decided to leave. 3 hours later we were called they entered the social security numbers were put in wrong. Would recommend anyone who is car shopping to work with him specifically. Had a little windshield issue after purchase and he was very helpful in getting it resolved, used car sales manager Erick was also friendly and efficient. The only negative experience I had was with the finance manager when closing out the deal. He was very pushy for the extended warranty and other coverage, which I understand is his job. Hopefully you get a salesperson that does not hang up on you or promise you things that they renege on when you present yourself as a serious buyer. Contacted the dealer through email from their website about a particular car on Tuesday. Got a text almost immediately from a salesperson asking for permission to contact via text. Replied quickly with a Yes to opt in to text. No response until three days later. I guess this says something about the salesperson or the dealer not needing business. Once contact was made 1. We expressed that we were ready to purchase 2. That we already test drove the car 3. That we already visited a dealer to see the various colors 4. Already know what packages we were interested in 5. Would sign paperwork immediately if the numbers worked. We did ask that this be done remotely as much as possible due to the fact that I was getting over COVID. First quote had quite a bit of add-ons, including tinted windows. Tinted windows was an issue since we were not sure if we wanted the windows tinted, the quality of the tint (eg, regular or ceramic, generic or name brand, etc), the darkness of the tint, etc. Second quote was closer to where we wanted to be but we were still having an issue with the TINT cost still remaining. We were told that the tint remained because it was already installed. We explained the concern we had with having a car already tinted (see above) and how additional costs would be incurred to remove the tint if we did not like it and the possibility of having the rear defroster lines damaged during the removal process. We asked for the salesperson to take pics of the car anyways to see if the tint was a deal breaker or if we could live with it. We explained to him that once we see the pics, we can decide if the tint is ok or if we will ask to see if he can get the cost of the tint removed. He agreed and said he would ask to have the cost of the tint removed from the quote one more time if that was still an issue after seeing the pics. Six hours later, no pics were received until I texted him about it. I called after seeing the pics to ask if he could try to get the cost of the tint removed from the selling price. He NOW says that the cost of the tint was already "factored into the savings" with the second quote. This was NOT stated initially at 10am (first contact). I verbally told him I'm ready to pull the trigger at the selling price offered on the 2nd quote just minus the tint. He did not offer to ask the sales manager. During the conversation, I asked if the deal for this car did not work out, if there were any other cars on the lot that were similar without the tint. He said ALL the cars on the lot are tinted. To clarify, I asked again, so if we can't make a deal on this car because of the tint, you are saying that we cannot make a deal on any other car on the lot because ALL of them are already tinted?. He said "OK" and hung up. Not sure what "OK" meant, I texted him asking to confirm so that was it and no deal? No response. I called into the dealer to ask for another salesperson because I still wanted to see if the deal could be worked out. Spoke to someone else. He appeared to be familiar with the deal that we were working on. He said ok to the tint removal and the agreed upon price. I said "OK. Send me the paperwork. I'll do whatever you need me to do remotely." He tells me to come into the store. I tell him "I'm getting over COVID. You really want me to come in there and shake your hand? Use your pen to sign? Touch your forms?" He says "OK, I will email you the contract." Having been told that this deal was for today only, I was expecting to get an email with the contract to sign. Email never came. I guess they are a volume dealer so they don't need business. read more

The staff don't meet you outside, first of all. The front lot hardly has anything. Everything is kept in the back. My mom and I came in because she saw a nice RAV4 online, but when we got there they tried to bait and switch with a significantly more expensive RAV4, claiming that the one she saw online had been sold 8 hours ago. When it was time to make a deal they tacked on all sorts of fees and add ons then blamed it on the government. The government didn't make you apply two warranties without consent or an up charge for protective paint film that should have been included on your window flyer. They basically treated my mom like she was an idiot because her current vehicle is from 2012. Definitely better service at the Pleasanton and San Jose locations. read more

I went to this dealership to have my 25k oil change. Mario was my service advisor. He used scare and intimidation tactics to sell the service of changing the engine and cabin air filter for ~$157. Stating that if I did not have the filters changed at Autonation that my engine's 10 year warranty would be voided. When I asked for clarification he stated installing " cheap" filters will ruin the engine. I went to get a 2nd opinion at George's Automotive. Turns out I did not need the engine air filter replaced. I only had my cabin air filter replaced. As a a woman and 1st time car owner, I would not recommend going to Autonation for service repairs. I recently brought my 2019 Toyota Camry SE, which is in excellent condition with low mileage, in for its 30,000-mile service at AutoNation Toyota Hayward--and was charged an exorbitant ~$1,900 for what should have been a routine service. The charges broke down to $1,286 for labor and $752 for parts. Upon reviewing the parts costs, I noticed extreme markups--one item was over 2.2 times the standard retail price. When I questioned the service advisor about the unreasonable pricing, the response was simply that they "needed to make a profit." No itemized explanation of the service was provided. To make matters worse, I was told the service manager wasn't available (it was a Friday), and that I would receive a call back. I never received a follow-up. According to multiple online sources, a typical 30,000-mile service at a dealership should range from $559 to $904--less than half of what I was charged. This isn't my first negative experience with this dealership. When I bought the car here, the Finance Manager pressured me into purchasing a $2,000 Toyota Auto Care plan, citing how the car had "40 computers" and that "things could go wrong." He reassured me I could cancel anytime. I returned the same day to cancel, and still it took nearly three weeks, multiple calls, emails, and an in-person visit to get my money back. The General Manager was informed of my complaint, yet never acknowledged or apologized for how I was treated. Looking back, I should have taken that early experience as a red flag and avoided their service department altogether. Instead, I gave them a second chance -- and got taken for a ride, again. In my opinion, AutoNation Toyota Hayward prioritizes profit over transparency and customer trust. Please read! I feel compelled to share my experience at Hayward Toyota because I had the opportunity to walk away, but I witnessed elderly customers who may not have been as fortunate. It would eat me up alive if I did not share this and saved at least one buyer First, the finance rep engaged in unethical behavior. I have photo evidence showing the car priced at $43K, which was later switched to $44K. Moreover, the finance rep falsely claimed that the car at the $4305 price was sold to a cash buyer. After persistent inquiry, it was revealed that the car was, in fact, not sold. Our intention was to purchase the car at the sticker price only. However, upon reviewing the paperwork, we discovered unwanted add-ons (PPF, appearance protection, and dent protection). Despite our clear refusal of these add-ons, the finance rep insisted they could not be removed and were part of the purchase. This was neither mentioned nor indicated during our initial conversations. Our party invested around three hours attempting to secure this deal, primarily due to the $4000 discount offered prior to testing out the car and prior to paper work. It wasn't until the deal phase when they mentioned they cannot give us the 4K unless we got the PPF. I was blindsided by the unprofessionalism and unethical practices at Hayward Toyota, which I did not experience at Sunnyvale Toyota. Despite our initial desire to support Hayward Toyota, the conduct experienced has led to severe disappointment. Expect to spend 3 hrs waiting regardless you have appointment or not or how easy is the job. Two terrible experiences at Toyota Autonation Hayward--and I should've learned the first time. I gave them a second chance only because of their service coupons, but what's the point when the service is awful and the staff is rude and not customer-focused? Both times, I had an appointment for a simple oil change, and both times it took over three hours. The first visit, they refused to honor my coupon and the GM never returned my call despite my request. The second time, I waited for three hours at the dealership and found out my car hadn't even been touched--so I left without receiving any service at all. On both occasions, I asked to speak with a manager or the GM and never received a single call back. Absolutely unacceptable. I will never return. Sadly I have a negative update on my recent experience with Toyota Hayward. I took my truck in for 15k maintenance + rear axle recall + an ABS light lit on dash problem. Service advisor said they will take care of the first two and for the ABS issue they will charge $230 initially for diagnostic and then if they fix the problem under warranty then the diag fee will be waived or else they will charge the diag fee with the necessary labor/parts. So I agreed and they later called me to say they are done with the oil change + rear axle recall but for the ABS issue apparently it's caused due to my truck being lifted and the rear ABS wiring harness got stretched. What's weird is that assuming the rear harness was really stretched they never offered to replace it (of course I would have been fine paying for it) which felt fishy so I paid they $230 diag fee and left. I took it to a different dealership, they looked at it and replaced the rear wheel sensor and some other work under warranty. This dealership also confirmed that Hayward Toyota never logged any diag info to the Toyota system and also did NOT perform the rear axle recall and hence they had to redo it again. So I went back to Hayward Toyota to ask back the $230 diag fee as they diagnosed the problem wrong and took my money, went to them twice in two weeks but the service manager wasn't around. The lady at the service department said apparently Carlos, the service manager, doesn't take appointments so either I have to keep dropping by to catch him or to give him a call. I took his business card, called him and as expected he didn't pickup so left him a voicemail explaining what happened but to this day, it's been couple of weeks, he never called me back. I had my batteries replaced here, but as soon as I got my car back I noticed my brakes no longer work the same. At first I didn't think much of it, but the following days I took noticed to my brake as it was working less efficiently as it normally would. The most impactful incident that occurred was when I almost got into a near death accident which usually doesn't happen to me due to the brakes working functionally. It was very fortunate I usually drive a distance away from the car in front of me. I don't usually need to slam my brakes when I'm on the freeway, but this time I did. I believe there was faulty in the repair when they fixed my battery. I don't recommend coming here as the workers here do not seem competent with newer model cars - additionally, I noticed the front desk employee who had to bring my car to the front of the shop did not bother to stop to turn off the ebrake, which also ruined my car... read more

11/03/23 Went here for my GRSupra's oil change. The waiting room was clean. Men's restroom was clean and smells clean. Fernando Ruiz, my service adviser was very helpful. I'll deforest come back here for my GRSupra's maintenance. 11/04/23 I came back to the dealership real early. The bottom engine cover was dragging and scraping. Carlos Saldiver, Service Manager said he'll order me a new engine cover. We will see what will happen. read more

Car was falsely advertised along with minor mechanical issues. I purchased a 2018 Tesla Model 3 "long range". Later found out it was actually mid range. Car has a really loud squeaky ball joint issue which became apparent literally 24hrs from driving off the lot. Drove 60 miles to purchase and had to get car towed due to dealership not assuring the car battery was reasonably charged not to mention their failure to explain car/charging specifics. Now they won't pick up the phone to discuss these issues. So unprofessional! read more

Anything car-related always gives me a headache, especially when the car engine fails. Based on my experience with another dealer, I was expecting the day to be stressful, but that was not it! Fj - He's super friendly and personable. Offered to teach us how to use certain functions. Answer calls when we have questions after the ordeal. Went above and beyond, really. Alex - My previous experience with another finance director was a disappointment--unfriendly and somewhat aggressive. Alex on the other hand was very friendly. He really worked with us on any hiccups and concerns. Overall, amazing experience. We haven't had the need for service/parts yet, but hopefully, they will be just as great. read more

Simply put, when you go to a dealership you expect to always to pay more to get your car serviced. Every time I've gone they have always asked me to add a recommended service despite me telling them it's not even part of the schedule maintenance found in the manual. But I always end up doing something on the recommended list and I always feel I'm getting a raw deal. In the end, I'll do it because I figure it helps my car but today is the last day I'm going to go here. Not only did I lose money but more money than I expected. Simply, because someone actually took money from my car. I always have some cash in middle console between the drive and passenger seats. I know it's partly my fault but I haven't had any issues with any other maintenance places that I have used. When I informed the service team about what transpired they took my information and never returned my call. I've waited for a few hours to post this but it's safe to say I won't get a call back. I won't be coming back to this Toyota service group and I would recommend you bringing your car somewhere else. I'm not saying they don't do a good job with the work they have done but I always feel I'm doing something extra to the point I'm getting ripped off. Now with my latest and last experience I've gotten ripped off both figuratively and literally. Thank you Toyota AutoNation... I hope the 60 dollars was worth it. read more

I was here for regular maintenance. They told me my vehicle needs wheel alignment after doing the alignment I had a knocking noise coming from driver side . Called my buddy who is a mechanic. After him checking out the car, He found out that the tie rod nut was loose and the tire has an inch play. Was contacted by Justin because I was selling my car and he offered a bit higher than Carmax. We set up a date and time for me to bring my car in. I arrived before Justin and was sitting in the lobby waiting. No one bother to offer any assistant. Not only was Justin late to the appointment, he wasn't friendly at all. Seemed like he didn't want to be there. He asked for the key to my car for an inspection. 15 mins later he went to talk to his boss Dylan, then told me they actually can't honor the price he offered me. So they lowballed me with a price $3000 lower than Carmax. What a total waste of time. Why would you make an offer you won't honor? Not professional at all. I went to Carmax right after and got my car sold in less than an hour with the price I was promised. read more

I scheduled an online service appointment for an oil change and to wait for it. I was told roughly 1 and 1/2 hour. I am ok with that. It took a little over 3 hours, and when I asked the service advisor after 2 hours, he replied "not sure". Sales person was okay but the after sales experience is absolute trash. If you were promised by the sales person to have wheel arches and related panels replaced, you'd expect them to be replaced. Rather than that, someone made an attempt at zip tying the panels. Be sure to check your car on pick up. It should have been a clue when our sales person never followed up on their promise to fix these. In addition, check the DOT on your tires if buying here. During our sales process, they also tried to pass off tires with a manufacturers date of 2019 as "new," despite it being 2023. read more
