I have been using Southern Longview Automotive for several years now. They are the only mechanic I…read morewill take my vehicles to. Joe always goes over what they found in detail on my vehicle. He is exceptional at helping me understand what is going on with any given issue. He always gives me multiple options and informs me of any possible outcomes of each option. I've never met another mechanic that would take over 20 minutes on the phone helping me understand the problem and make an informed decision. They are always transparent on the parts and labor costs, and they warranty most every part that you get replaced with them. Matt, the owner, and his team are highly knowledgeable and they truly care about your vehicle running properly and safely.

Rudy's initial quote was $350 but only charged me $300 since the job took less time than expected. I dropped off the van in the morning when they opened then walked 2 miles home. Rudy called at 3pm saying the van was ready then drove over to fetch me after finding out I was on foot. I really appreciated that along with the lowered repair cost. I now own a dodge Neon that needs a timing belt kit plus the motor mounts replaced so will see how much he'll gig me for that.

Avoid if you value torque specs: I Took my car to Tidwell recently to have my wheels balanced and…read moredespite me leaving notes above the wheel arches specifying the lug nut torque spec (85lb-ft) and specifically asking the front desk to torque the nuts to spec. When I attempted to remove them a couple days later they were incredibly tight, and I ended up grabbing my torque wrench to see what it took to remove them - and every lug nut maxed out my wrench at over 190lb-ft... would be frustrating to have this happen from a cheap shop, but especially from a "premium" one like Tidwell. But that's not all. I then spent a few weeks (and a little over $1000) chasing down a cyclical tapping noise from somewhere in the driveline only to eventually have a shop discover that the wheel weights used were installed poorly because they didn't fit the rim profile correctly and were rattling about at certain speeds. They said the wheel weights should have been the stick on kind and not the clips for the rim shape. Worth mentioning that I had requested stick in weights because I prefer those anyway, but was told they didn't have any. I've used Tidwell before a few times and they're more expensive than most, so I thought I would be getting better service. This wasn't the only time they over torqued my lugs but it was the most extreme, and it will certainly be the last. I almost didn't bother with making this review, but discovering they botched the wheel weights was too much.
