I've been using ASC since I moved into my house in 2015. They did some projects well and some not so well. For this project, they were installing Rachio controllers and running new wire (as you can see in the signed contract). Frank was the lead (I'm not sure he's still with the company). I was told it was going to take all day. I remember thinking that they finished really quickly. I didn't discover what they buried in the ground until this April when I had them back out to trouble shoot why a zone wasn't working on the other side of the driveway. I had tested the wires and it was weird that the voltage was 3-5 on many of the wires (supposed to be 25). There was also voltage measured on wires not being activated. Luis came out and spent 2 hours troubleshooting ($260). He found that one zone was already consolidated from years ago (meaning the wires weren't working for a while). The only fix he could come up with was to consolidate another zone (wire would control two valves simultaneously). He quickly left and I checked it and one zone still wasn't working. I thought the only solution was to run new wire. I started digging to look for conduit under the driveway. I found the conduit and also found what Frank did. Rather than run new wire like the contract stipulates, he spliced new wire to the old wire (to make it look like he ran new wire). I realized that's why he finished so quickly. This spliced wire quickly failed and cost me approximately $2000 in damages to fix. I asked the company to come back out and run new wire as they promised to do. You can read the email for yourself, but was essentially, "no." I understand that companies can have "bad apples." But a decent company makes good on their promises. read more

Despite their offices being less than two miles away from me, I was charged a $50 service fee for the initial cost of the work done to replace four sprinkler heads and two nozzles and was told the labor would be prorated to the time it took (less than an hour) which it wasn't. Then, exactly two weeks after service, I had an issue with one of the nozzles/heads they replaced. They told me over the phone that they would send someone over to check out the work they did (without fee), and if major work above and beyond their work was needed, then there'd be a charge, but that checking on THEIR work there wouldn't be one. They came to check, no work was done, and I was charged the $50 travel fee that I was told I wouldn't be charged for less than 5 minutes of checking. The one star is because Jimmy was great. The original work was excellent. The customer service and follow-up could have been better. As cliched as it is, the hope was for a sprinkler maintenance company local to me to do needed work regularly on my house. Instead, they got a $50 disgruntled check and the assurance that they'll never be recommended to anyone by me again. I don't write many Yelp reviews - but this one is worthwhile. Asked for an estimate through Angie's List, William returned my call and informed me that I would be charged $50 but that the truck was fully stocked with parts and that my issues could be addressed right away. After an hour of inspection, I had two new leaks that were admitted to be caused by turning on old valves in inspection by the technician. None of my issues were resolved and I was billed 626 dollars to repair the leaks caused by the inspection. I was offered free estimates by multiple companies and I should have go that route. Needless to say.... My sprinklers still do not function read more

Update May 5th 2023. It's true it's been several months since they completed the system but upon hiring a new landscaping crew they pointed out several leaks in the system that were put together without much thought. Several of the connections were leaking into the gravel and dirt. I asked them how bad the situation was. They said it could have been a lot worse. I'm just very upset cuz I thought that Automatic Sprinkler, who did the installation of the drip and oversaw the new heads on the rotors would do a much better job than they did. Very disappointed. This review concerns a business practice (not work performed): I'm sure this company does great work --- and the front office employee I spoke to today was polite and informative to boot. He took time to explain the possible problems I was experiencing with my sprinkler valve, along with the relevant fee structure tied to those problems (which all sounded reasonable). Great start to our interaction. Their schedule was booked (good for them!); he offered me an appointment 10 days away (not good) & wanted my credit card (read over the phone) to hold the appointment (so the company could charge a fee if I canceled). I don't have a problem with the fee, per se -- but was uncomfortable reading my credit card over the phone. No other (electronic) option was offered and the company couldn't give me the appointment without the CC on file. So we can't do business. I get it. Potential customers (especially those secured through Yelp) must cancel all the time -- and it's costly & inconvenient to drive to appointments that get canceled. However, it is 2022. There are tons of vendors that offer businesses platforms for secure online transactions. read more

Can't say enough good things about Martin and his crew at Automatic Sprinklers! They installed an automated drip system in our back yard and placed the controller in an ideal location that no one else could figure out how to do. They've done good work for me in the past - but on my last call, the tech took 10 minutes to do a repair I could have done myself (I thought it was a bigger job) and then tried to charge me $65 extra for the service call. I refused to pay it, as I had not been informed of this charge when I made the appointment and had not been charged it in the past. The tech said "there's a new owner and he's changed the rules." Good luck with those rules, New Owner, you've lost a customer. read more

It's been about a month since my sprinklers were installed and everything works beautifully. I used Yelp to send out bids as the person who worked here previously has retired. I needed my old sprinkler system lines repaired and the equipment completely replaced with something more contemporary (I had fixed sprinklers which were hazardous on the lawn and which dogwalkers constantly kicked over in the stretch in front of our fence, leaving me to replace sprinklers regularly). The sprinkler people are many and varied from mom and pop people to companies that have a crew and will do the work. ASC falls into the latter category. Along the way to selecting ASC, I had people show up (mostly from the mom and pops) who walked the lawn and never came back with a bid (I didn't chase them for a bid, figuring that was all I needed to know), people who didn't show at all as well as the larger companies. Given my experience with the bids, I felt a large company would be more trustworthy, probably more expensive, but hopefully more professional. I got a bid, I found a bit high, went back and forth, felt the bid was fair and hired them. The job was delayed a couple of times (my system worked so I was ok, and felt it meant they were being diligent in their work). I was very happy with my choice and am very happy with the pop up system. They recommended irrigation systems for some of my landscape and put in a very swell system which has operated beautifully. I feel very happy with my system and with the choice of this company to install it. I needed sprinklers to be repaired on almost all the stations, several lines moved further away from the house. I scheduled an appointment back in May. Even though I had to wait for a while and move an appointment once, I had Ever, Todd and his crew come over in mid-July to fix my sprinkler system. They were at my property on time and worked quietly and efficiently, despite the extreme heat. The next day, after a job was completed, one of my old valves started leaking. I contacted Ever again, and they sent Ed to fix it at no charge. I'm satisfied with the quality of the job: my sprinklers work and there's no water overrun. Their staff (Sandra and Harold) appeared to completely understand my issue and promptly set up a near-future date to address it, quoting a charge that would be much lower than that quoted by other vendors I had approached. We had a sprinkler leak in our front yard a few months ago and Manny came out and fixed it efficiently and at a fair price. When we needed the drain line from our sump pump to the street fixed to mitigate the flooding our backyard has been experiencing with all this rain, I reached out to several plumbers for help, and all quoted us in the tens of thousands of dollars to fix the damage from the tree roots to the PVC pipe (most even said they would need to cut through our concrete to fo around the tree). Remembering the excellent service we'd received from here before, I spoke with Martin and asked if this was something he thought his company could help us with. He sent out Juan a couple of days later and Juan spent several hours in the mud sawing and hacking away at roots until he could fix the problem spot in our line for us with some new PVC pipe. Less than 500 bucks later, and we didn't have any backup of our sump pump in these last several days of rain for the first time all season. We so appreciate their hard work and fair price and will definitely reach out to them again and recommend them to everyone. read more

My sprinkler system stopped working one day, I had no idea what was wrong with it. It took a little while to get the technician out but it wasn't an emergency and I had said so in scheduling. Once they were here they figured out the issue (sloppy wiring) and fixed it easily and for a good price. While they were on site they also quickly fixed a leak in a drip line and were able to talk about future improvements we are interested in. All in all, my favorite thing about talking to the technician was that he really seemed to be on top of everything. It was the type of interaction where he wasn't telling me what I should do, he just gave me some different possibilities and some details about doing things different ways. I was recommended to Automatic Sprinkler Controls from the sprinkler repairperson I usually use, who was out of town for the month. Update to my last review. I'm so impressed with these guys!!! I needed them to come back to my house to check a few sprinklers out. They were able to schedule a visit for the next day. The ever amazing William who is the office rep, let me know that super star Manny who did my original work was booked on an all day project but that Luis would be the rep showing up. Luis showed up on time and let me know that Manny had prepped him regarding my yard and the work that was done so he'd be up to speed. Not only was their time and work covered under warranty, but Luis not only made the repairs but patiently and thoroughly rechecked both front and back systems to ensure I was all set. It was like having my brother from out of state standing in my yard carefully ensuring I was all set. I go into details on both of these reviews because I've run into a fair share of contractor's and repair guys who haven't provided trustworthy service and pricing. These guys are unbelievably great! While we had a great experience several years ago, much has changed with the company since then. They identified the wrong valve as being faulty during a service call, something another company identified in 10 minutes, and pushed us to replace valves that could easily be repaired simply because they no longer service the brand and don't have the parts. They just don't tell you this up front, even after sending them photos clearly showing the brands in use. Definitely will not be using them in the future. read more

This company was a referral. Scheduled an appt. to come out. They said it would be a $75 charge for the call. Guy was here for 1.5 hours confirmed the problem and I received a bill for $150. What they didn't tell was it's $75 for the first 30 minutes. Then I found out from my gardener that some of my sprinkler zones were not working..it turns that when he was at the sprinkler box...he mixed all the wires. There was no power to zones 8-9 because they were not clipped back in the right place. It was fixed yesterday by my landscape contractor!!! I don't think I'll be referring them. read more

Found them on Angie's List and they did not disappoint. Inherited a ghetto sprinkler system with more baggage than Lindsey Lohan and Ron was able to fix multiple leaks, broken heads, missing lines, etc. They do alot more including low voltage lighting & some landscaping so definitely full serice Ask for Ron. These guys were amazing. I don't think I could have asked for a better service, and I do think that my expectations are a bit high. Here's what they did: My yard was a horrible maze of DIY irrigation hazards. I got about 5 assessments and quotes from a range of professionals to completely redo the whole thing, from your everyday gardener to the most specialized irrigation people. It's a tricky property that sits on a hillside, so there many ways to configure the darn system. Fortunately, I had done a ton of homework on irrigation since 1) It's completely interesting to me and I just had to nerd out on it and 2) I'm an avid gardener who does not want to deal with a crappy irrigation system again. EVER. It turns out that Automatic Sprinkler Control had the best assessment of what needed to be done, and properly. At the walk-through, Martin (the owner) was very good at explaining what he saw as the best way to configure the irrigation. He also followed up via email with a rough drawing of the plan. Awesome!! No other service had done that for a quote, and I really appreciated the attention to detail. He answered all of my questions and took my watering concerns into account. Did I mention that I'm a gardener who loves to nerd out on watering?? The best thing is, the quote that Martin gave me was the second lowest of all the quotes. Yet it was the most detail oriented. AND it was exactly what we paid in the end. To top it off, Ernie (his job supervisor/foreman) was incredibly professional and quick. The crew of two finished the job and left our property looking better than when they got here. I love these guys! They'll be doing our irrigation maintenance for years to come. read more

These guys are great. Martin is so nice and dependable. His team did a fantastic job with our new sprinkler system. After decades of Mickey-Mousing and being frustrated with my ancient system dysfunctional sprinklers I called Martin. He came right out and gave me a great quote. They finished on time and showed up when they said they would. My neighbors actually commented on how tidy they were and how even with the massive work in digging up everything they put everything back and it looked undisturbed. I went for the computerized system with the weather station. It is awesome. My favorite feature, the battery backup so when the power goes out I don't have to reprogram the whole system. Martin came back two weeks later to check the system and make sure everything was working as it should. It is amazing, the sprinklers are all specific for what they water and only water what they are supposed to. I know I am going to save money on my water bills. If you need a sprinkler system you will be glad you went with them. read more

I previously gave them a five star rating. This is now four because I wished they offered more brands of timers to choose from. The one they installed is now falling apart simply because it's made of plastic and the elements have taken their toll. Not the best brand and one I'd never heard of. The latch to the door broke off. This was the latest of several issues that I had to have them come back and fix. Well the door still closes and I finally got tired (nor the time) of calling them to come fix. So I left it alone. They presented it well but if I was given a choice I would have gone with Toro. I would check out other vendors before you decide on going with this business. read more

We contracted with Automatic Sprinkler Controls to do a complete repair/refurbishment of our irrigation system (1/2 acre of yard and landscaping). We first asked Martin, the owner, to give us an estimate to remove and replace the entire system which was over 40 years old and had various repairs and changes made over the years. Martin did a thorough review of our property and checked all aspects of the existing system and told us we didn't need a full replacement; that he could repair/refurbish our present system at about 1/2 the total cost. After four full time days, the job was finished, Martin did a thorough test of the work done by Marcus and Will, made a few tweaks and adjustments and left us with just what we wanted; a fully functional and operational irrigation system. I was very fortunate to find this company because my leak resulted in high DWP bills. Juan came out and did the repair and then we decided to replace a couple of more valves--my idea--they weren't trying to "sell" me anything, but it was a good thing to do. Fortunately, these valves were readily on hand. I then remembered that my sprinkler system had a few problems, never quite solved over the years and they checked everything. After replacing 10 nozzles, adjusting system, I'm feeling very "taken care of" by this very efficient crew. I highly recommend them. Oh, and Oscar was great at arranging my appt, which they cancelled ahead of time b/c of anticipated rain, but luckily, the forecast changed and they were able to squeeze me in.
