I walk through CTA Kedzie area often whether it be walking to the fitness center (Breakthrough…read moreFamilyPlex) or catching the CTA train itself. From what I have noticed it is actually safe, but that does not mean that I would not keep alert while in it even as an African American. CTA Kedzie is one of the high traffic areas in East Garfield Park due to everyone coming in-and-out, and also because of the liqa sto (One Eleven Food & Liquors) being posted about 100 meters from the station. I'm crossing my fingers that 'One Eleven Food & Liquors' gets torn down and becomes the parking lot for 'The Hatchery' once 'The Hatchery' has been completed, but that's a whole different topic. However, if you have ever been to this area you will understand what type of traffic it brings. The worst you will encounter in this area are drunks, druggies and drug dealers which stems from the liqa sto being a hit, but other than that it is just people trying to carry out their day whether that be going to school, work, or home via the train or bus. At night the traffic calms down, but that does not mean you stop being alert because it is pretty dark in this area once you get off that train and exit the CTA stop itself. Thomas G

However, it's not any of these things. It's a great stop in the midst of a neighborhood of people trying to do the best they can with that they were given. It is a crossroads of kids coming from and going to school, with a few restaurants thrown in the mix. It's actually a very safe area and there is a Garfield Outdoor Market on the south-eastern corner of the street on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings that has great produce. It's in the location of the soon-to-be-built "Hatchery", which is a food service small business incubator that has some very substantial community resource behind it.

The good: The bus gets on LSD between Fullerton and Grand…read moreso it saves 10 minutes over the 156 bus. The bad: The bus gets on LSD so if that's a mess it can take as long or longer than the 156 bus. I avoid this bus if traffic is snarled because of snow or rain since LSD will usually also be snarled. By the time it gets to my stop in the morning, Wrightwood, it's usually full. With Bus Tracker, I can many times wait another minute and get on a bus where I can get a seat. I'll usually take the 156 just so that I can get a seat and read the Redeye. If you get on before Diversey in the morning, you have a much better chance of getting a seat or just onboard. By the time the bus gets to Arlington, it's almost always full.

Dear #134 bus, I…read morelove you, I really do. I hope you aren't upset with me because I've had dalliances with other lines. They mean nothing to me, nothing! Especially that nasty #135. He may be ok for the evening trip home, but my mornings belong to you. The fact that I am the first stop on your morning route makes me feel like I'm getting VIP treatment with my choice of seats. Other routes are dirty, smelly, and the people are just downright weird. Aside from the occasional loud-talker, food eater, and/or coffee spiller those of us that travel within your advertisement lined interior are blissfully quiet and relaxed. You may want to consider having a word with your dispatcher though because they should never send shortie buses on this route. There are entirely too many people that rely on you and we need all the room we can get. I don't care what anyone else says, starting my morning with a lovely ride through the park and along the lake makes me almost happy to be going to work... almost. Yours truly, Josh G.

If you are waiting for a bus between 49th St /Kedzie Orange Line and 63rd Pl /Kedzie, take care to make sure you get on the right bus. Both the #52 and the #52A travel between 49th St /Kedzie Orange Line and 63rd Pl on Kedzie Avenue. It can be inconvenient - - and more expensive - - if you get on the wrong bus! There can be long wait times, especially non-rush hours and weekends. Frequently, the #52 and #52A arrive at the stops between the Orange Line and 63rd Pl on Kedzie one right after the other. It would be nice if they were spaced out a bit more, this would benefit the people who are only traveling between the Orange Line and 63rd Pl. It is pretty annoying when two buses show up in a row after a long wait. I don't usually travel any further north than Archer Avenue on the #52. The bus drivers that I have encountered are usually pleasant. Just remember to make sure you get on the right bus between 49th St/Orange Line and 63rd Pl! CTA Review #4
