Finding a good, honest, and reliable mechanic is the Holy Grail for any car owner. Derrick…read moresucceeded where two other mechanics across town had failed. Not only was the diagnosis absolutely correct, but it was explained in a way that actually made sense without talking down to me. Derrick and his team have been my mechanics since I moved to West Orange in 2018, and at this point I trust them completely with my cars. They're straight shooters. If something can wait, they'll tell you. If something needs attention now, they'll show you why. No pressure, no mystery charges, no unnecessary parts swapping. From a technical standpoint, their diagnostics have been consistently spot-on. They don't just throw parts at a problem hoping something sticks; they take the time to trace the root cause, whether it's electrical, drivetrain, or something more subtle that other shops miss. The work is done right the first time, and I've never had to come back for the same issue. Pricing is fair, turnaround times are realistic, and communication is excellent. They treat you like a long-term customer, not a one-time invoice. Shops like this are rare, and if you're looking for a place you can stick with for years, this is it. I recommend them without hesitation.

Their shop is very clean and the mechanics are professional and friendly. Derrick was great to meet after reading so much about him in previous reviews. They have music playing in the three bay work area which is great, it keeps everyone in good spirits while working on your vehicle. Pricing was very reasonable and straightforward (and no games that are played like from my area in NYC where there is a cash vs credit price where merchants charge you 2-5% extra if you pay by credit card.) I made an appointment for my service on their website and highly recommend you do as well as opposed to walk-in service as they are very busy and then calling them to confirm that for your requested service that you can wait rather than drop off (BUT that depends on where you live and of course what you need done, I'm in NYC so I can't drop it off and leave and comeback when done, I need to wait; if I needed time consuming work / parts like the lower block changed on my J35Y6 engine due to the connecting rod recall, I'd need to leave it there and come back when done days later of course, but for fluid changes like oil/atf/differential/transfer case/break/coolant, I would wait.) For my service, they got to my vehicle quickly and the service was perfect and took the exact amount of time to do it right. I'll be coming back for service for both of my vehicles going forward. I'm coming from NYC and getting there is very convenient especially if you take the I95 to 280W. I have nothing but praise for Derrick and his team!

They participate in the Geico express program and decided we should go in for at least an estimate. We were a little nervous since we never went here before (and didn't get a referral from someone we knew). The entire door needed to replaced and painted. The person working there explained the whole process. We received the estimate and we felt so at ease here we decided to get the work done here as well. They did such a great job and kept us up to date by adding photos (through Geico) while it was in progress. We also were able to get the rental car and once we picked up the car, just leave the rental car there. We were so thrilled with the paint job- they would have never known the door was new. Just as an FYI- the car is a bright cobalt blue (pretty distinct color) and it matches perfectly. The car was also throughly cleaned when we picked it up just another bonus. Would definitely recommend this body shop! Everyone we interacted with there was very nice & helpful!

All my questions were answered, since this was my first time at Modern Auto Body. I definitely will inform my dealership (Hilltop Nissan) in East Hanover, about your shop, and I will be recommending Modern Auto Body to anyone that needs any work done on their car. They sent real time updates without asking, and they informed me when my car would be ready. It was ready one day earlier. Once again, thank you for your professionalism. Have a happy and healthy new year to all employees and their families.

But then we experienced the Scam. My dad & uncle are both over 70. My dad wanted to give the car to my uncle in September 2018. AAA sent Moshe's to jump start or change the AAA Battery. Moshe's had come once before in July 2018. Ashton, the guy they sent, had said it was not a battery problem but an Alternator problem. He had argued on the phone with our regular repair guy we have been going to for over 10+ years - who had just repaired the Alternator. Ashton just jumped the car in July. Basically Moshe's did not want to honor switching out the AAA Battery that was under warranty. Then Ashton told my dad he'll fix it himself. He dented my hood instead of pressing the button next to the Driver's side like a normal person. He was there very late, working on our car in the driveway. My uncle and Dad both had to go to work in the morning. But it wasn't fixed. He still charged them. Fast-forward, I go to Toyota October 31, 2018 to get the battery and alternator checked, because the car had not been fixed in September by Moshe's. So they said there would be a fee, and that the repair that was previously done -- now the Alternator was from Moshe's -- should be refunded, because they put in the wrong one. So I called AAA - since that is who we had called in the first place. AAA said the repair shop would have to handle the refund or replacement. They told ME the repair shop was Moshe's and gave me a list of the various battery calls that year. Moshe's was unresponsive on the phone. So Nov 5, 2018 we went there personally. Moshe and his wife Michelle put up a Huge Show. They both pretended that we had never called them. Michelle called someone - claiming it was AAA - awho nd Michelle claimed that we didn't show up in Moshe's computer. "Oh, I have a call from you in the computer to M&M Towing on November 1st, not to Moshe's on October 31st." We did not know that M&M Towing IS Moshe's - until I looked it up later. Then after screaming and shouting at me and my parents for an hour, Moshe called Ashton in from outside -- who admitted that he had done all the previous things I mentioned. So then they pretended that he had backstabbed them. All this drama -- when really all they had to do was replace the AAA Battery that was under warranty in the first place. So then they did not replace the Battery or Alternator, but said - it's the Fuse Box -- and tried to charge $150, and to come back later. Then I remembered that M&M Towing had charge Double the miles in July 2018 when they towed the car to get the Alternator fixed by our regular mechanic. So then we went back at 5pm when they said the car was ready. Another lady was paying for her service. Moshe pretended like he had no idea why I was there, when we had just gone through all this in the morning with his wife and him screaming and shouting, and playing games. Then I said I'm going to report him, and he suddenly threw in a free oil change. Then the next day, I took the car back to our regular mechanic, Prospect Exxon, to check it. He said that Moshe's is notorious for scamming people, and told me about the Sting Operation. I don't know why AAA keeps referring them. But stay away!
