Joe was very courteous and patient but was able to quickly diagnose our dryer issue. He gave me a quote and said he could repair it right then and there. We need warm and dry clothes so of course we said go for it! Within another 15 minutes, all was fixed and as good as new! Thank you Joe! Your expertise, professionalism and courteous service is an asset to the business.

The gentle man that I was speaking with on the phone said it sounded like the microwave door latches needed to be replaced. When the technician Joe showed up at my house the next day he stunk like a cigarette. He preceded to take pictures of the serial number on the appliance. In conversation I told him that the same Kitchen Aid microwave that I have is currently 499.00 dollars at Lowes . He then told me with out doing any diagnoses that the repair was going to be 450.00 dollars so I was better off just buying a new microwave. He also said nowadays the microwaves that they manufacture are throwaways and that when they go bad you throw them out and replace them with a new one. Now if that is the case why didn't the gentleman on the phone when I called them explain that to me. It seems to me they just wanted the 121.00 dollar service call fee that I paid them. Ironically I looked up on line the prices of the switches and they were 24.99 each. I also took apart the control panel and cleaned the switches and now the microwave door switches work fine. I also wanted to add that we used Georges appliance repair in the past and we had no issues. So we were not a first time customer. When I called Georges after I fixed the latches I got nothing but a lot of crap from the gentleman that I spoke to on the phone.

Before Calling "The Appliance Repairmen Scotch Plains (ARSP)" at 908-441-8167 consider the…read morefollowing: My refrigerated stopped working on 8/21 and as always, I go local first looking for a service provider in Scotch Plains. ARSP responded to a message and assigned a contractor for 8/24. After two weeks of service visits and the installation of numerous parts and a compressor it came to a point where the service provider said he could not fix it, that I should get a new refrigerator and he would refund $450 dollars of the initial $660 I paid, but he would come back and take all the parts out he put in, with the exception of the control board, leaving me with a disassembled refrigerator. I said no having no choice since the freezer is partially working and I need food in the house. I did agree in a text to "not" hold him to his 6-month guarantee since there is no way he could repair the unit and I accepted a 300-dollar refund. He expected me to sign a piece of paper avoiding any responsibility when he returned the $300 personally on Sept 9th, which I did not sign. The warranty for the work I did agree to remove, as stated earlier, but not liability for using inappropriate parts which I believe your company should be responsible for when assigning "local experts." I am presently trying to confirm if the assigned vendor is licensed in NJ. I do not hold the vendor directly at fault since ARSP assigned the work and advertised local experts. Summary 1. The ARSP assigned vendor replaced my compressor with a non-linear one not designed for the Kenmore Elite (made by LG.) afterwards I had a technician from a licensed LG repair service to repair the unit but explained you have to use the same type of compressor or the system will not operate correctly. The guy felt so bad he did not charge me for the service visit, but because of liability will not repair the unit. 2. I called ARSP after about a week of failures to hear that ARSP does not have any technicians, they only assign "EXPERT" contractors and I was told they could not help me and their owner and management will not take calls. 3. ARSP accepted a credit card payment pre visit, but the contractor they sent would only take cash or checks. That should have been my first warning 4. The contractor did not tell me that the Kenmore (LG made) compressor has a ten-year replacement warranty when he gave me the estimate and his work has now voided the parts warranty. 5. Since ARSP was who I initiated the work with and since they set it all up, I did not initially check with the BBB. I have subsequently checked the vendor they sent who has an F rating. Wondering if background checks are provided prior to listing? Future customers should insist on such. 6. I tried to check the EPA License # on the bill from the contractor with EPA registration from the NATE ID: site message received "This technician no longer has active NATE certifications" In fairness to the vendor this could be an over-sit so I am not listing name information. 7. ARSP has called me back on 9/11 offering my $60 service fee for the appointment returned, and to have the vendor come back to my house to strip my unit (which at least the freezer marginally working) of all the parts he put in and he would than return the balance of money I paid. ARSP would then have me start over with a new service provider I would have to pay in full. Since a licensed repair service would not take the job because of uncertainty and liability of the work completed, I am not certain who they would send! In any case I said no, I did not want the old vendor back in my house I just want a reputable repair service to come and complete the work correctly. I offered to provide ARSP the $300 the old vendor provided and am not looking for any financial gain. Nor am I looking to pay any more money after losing frozen food twice after the repairs stopped working and waiting weeks for what should have been a standard repair. LESSONS LEARNED: * If using ARSP understand they are not technicians and you have no recourse when things go bad. This is not clear on the site. * They are not local they use service providers from all over, contrary to their site saying Union County. The vendor I was provided was outside of Union. * Make sure they are sending a licensed repair person out and certified for the brand of unit you have. I have not been able to find the company listed on the NJ register, but as I indicated that could be just an oversite, but something I am following up on for future posts. ARSP appears to be listed correctly, and I am hopeful they do the right thing. * Make sure they check warranty services * Always go to the brand site and only use certified companies, but still check certifications * The ARSP operator was polite but was not helpful or fully understanding of the issue. *
