Completely screwed us over - unable to do what they promised and then gave us only a tiny portion of the full refund we deserved, and only that after months of hassling them. About Trafford: if you want to work with people with no integrity or human decency who will rob you blind, look no further. Their contract is full of loopholes that are vague and all in their favor. I was made promises by phone that were broken in the first week, that they would meet a rushed deadline so I could meet my time commitments to several shops. Because nothing from the Trafford staff was put in writing, and deliberately so, they took all they could from me financially. They rushed my illustrated children's book to design without my consent in order to withhold more of my cancellation refund. Their design person or team is a joke who removed the illustrator's name from the cover, which is absurd, and then made arbitrary changes that only meant it needed more work after they finished with it. Please do your homework better than I did. They aren't rated the lowest of the low on the Internet for nothing. I was robbed in canceling with them, and walked away with nothing but a financial loss. I don't like writing this kind of review, but if it can spare someone else from going through what I did, then it's worth it. Dealing with them was sordid and insulting. I have to laugh. Westbow Press calls themselves a Christian publishing company yet they are thieves. I paid them $1,500 for blog services on my book, An Angel Remembered, published by them in 2017. I didn't receive one blog. They make it impossible for an author to earn any money on a book. First they charge you for publishing and only give you a few books. They overprice your book - who's going to pay $22 for a paperback or hard cover for $35 from a new author??? When you buy books for yourself, they give you an author's discount but it's based on the retail price of the book plus you have to buy in super large quantities. Westbow sells my book on Amazon and other sites for $22. Of that amount I receive $2. Also I paid $500 for a book review by Kirkus. My book is religious in nature and this reviewer had to be an anti female atheist. He made fun of the fact that I wrote the character was having "eggs over easy" for breakfast. It's an author's job to be descriptive without overdoing it. The main character of the story is a little girl who comes down with incurable cancer. The reviewer was unsympathetic. And the fact is, this book was based on a true story. I was so upset with the publisher that I thought it was better for my health if I had nothing more to do with them. But they just called yesterday wanting to know if I wanted to purchase more books from them. I guess they're running out of people to fleece. read more

Please do your research about WestBow Press before giving them any money. Multiple employees within the organization have failed to respond the multiple email communications. Don't even try to get someone on the phone. You cannot. When I had finally had enough and requested a refund, they said no because more than 90 days had elapsed. The problems started with my first communication. In hindsight, I should have pulled the plug then but I really hoped to see my childrens book in print. I have tried to resolve my complaint with WestBow and BBB but to no avail. I can't get my money back but perhaps I can save someone else from losing theirs. Just say no to WestBow. read more

I will never recommend this Authorhouse to anyone. We had communication problems and they only seem to know how to work with fiction authors. we purchased the "hollywood package" and paid a lot and then couldn't resolve the issues with content without losing the integrity of our work so we cancelled and we are still trying to get our money back. nightmare!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I'm being forced to check one star! I would RUN AWAY from Authors Solutions! communication is horrible, except when they are trying to up sell more "extras". My book came out with the wrong back cover and it took me a month of calling, calling emailing and screaming to get them to fix it. I paid for but did not "qualify" for a quality review and proofreading, but oh no worries, they will put that toward my marketing package, which I hadn't planned on buying! so I get pressure to purchase the marketing with them saying the book is coming out very fast now. so, in May I bought it. the book didn't come out til the end of June (with the wrong back cover). So I'm trying to get that fixed, in July my PROOF COPY arrives to see the interior text has errors! I've been trying for weeks to reach the right person to stop this book, refund me for services not performed and it's so obvious more than half the staff is in the Philippines. everyone says they'll tell their manager, and how frustrating to ask to speak with a manager in the first place and NOBODY is available? I was in a que for 30 minutes with the operator alone! So I'm pulling out of iUniverse (at this stage I'm still trying!) and I want the refunds for proofreading, Quality Review ,Marketing and Book buy back. I wouldn't use them if it was FREE! read more

Author Solutions, Penguin's self-publishing arm, owns several businesses under the same address, including AuthorHouse, Trafford Publishing, iUniverse, etc. Beware any publisher that uses this Bloomington address; they are deceptive money-grabs that pray upon authors with big dreams. I made the mistake of trusting Trafford Publishing with my manuscript. I have dealt with so many people in their company, but none of them actually exist. None of them have ANY social media presence and they all have Filipino accents (no offense to Filipinos at all). I am convinced that Trafford is really just a giant call centre in Manila. I signed with them and waited months with NOTHING done on my book. Just annoying sales calls every other day, trying to bully me into upgrading my package with useless services that would end up costing me well into the five-figures. They asked, "Don't I believe in my book?" and other such manipulative things. That's not even the most frustrating part. Worst of all was the waiting. The publishing supervisor kept saying "your book is in production" while the publishing consultant kept stalling and saying that they'll get to it when they'll get to it. It became increasingly clear that they had no designer available to lay out my book (which had tons of pictures), so they were putting off the production process. After three months of waiting without receiving so much as a copyedit, I asked for a refund, but the publishing supervisor refused to process it. I had to call my credit card company and have the transactions cancelled. Then I had my card number changed. I have also blocked their number and blocked their emails. Don't wait for it to get this far-- just stay away. read more
