I purchased top of the line ball joints for my 06 dakota 4x4 and took it to Austin's to have the lower pressed in. My first clue should have been that Stephen didn't even know how much to charge and that he would have to "see how long it takes his guy to do it". DING DING DING ** WARNING ** WARNING ** RED FLAG ** WARNING ** SOMETHING AIN'T RIGHT! NAPA quoted me $30 sight unseen without hesitation. Because he knows what he is doing, has done hundreds and would have done it right the first time, when he could get to it - next week, ugh!! In hindsight, I should've waited... The good: They didn't charge me. The Bad: They tore up my boot trying to press it in ( though he should have taken it off before they ever even put it on the press. even I know that much!). For whatever reason he felt the need to beat the crap out of the control arm around the ball joint housing with a sledgehammer (since he didn't know that there was a retaining ring on it he was probably having trouble getting the old one out and thought that deforming the housing would help). He put the joint in cockeyed and jammed it a little and couldn't figure out why the grease fitting wouldn't go in properly. Left the snap ring sitting on the floor of the shop thinking, I don't know what, that it was an extra part maybe? Bent the bolt that holds the sway bar. Bungled the threads on the ball joint itself either with a hammer or by trying to press it in using the shaft of the joint!! I know my kids could have done a better job with less damage to my parts. Talk about a professional shade tree mechanic, there ya go. I went to autozone at the other end of Canyon to replace the boot to find out they don't carry them but had something close that we hope will be close enough. The big thing I found out is that they have a loaner tool that allows you do press them by hand. (It's basically a huge super duty c clamp with the colletts to do the job.) 2 guys (one old guy who is broken even) was able to fix their screw up, by hand!! I would not take a kid's tricycle for them to work on. read more

Back in October 2021, I fell victim of a catalytic converter theft on my truck, cummins diesel. This happened at a repair shop in Tacoma which I will not name but will never return to. This repair shop recommended and took my truck to Austin's Pro Max for the replacement which was an insurance claim. Austin's did the repairs which cost 17k give or take. Since then I have had nothing but troubles with the check engine light coming all in relation to the exhaust. To make this LONG story short, I have had it back at Austin's 3x and they have told me I had to have the dealer reflash the system, I have been to the dealer twice now and they recommended changing the aftermarket dpf which I have recently learned from another diesel mechanic that aftermarket dpf will always set codes no matter what is done to correct it without actually replacing the part with OEM parts. I have now occued a bill from the dealer which the insurance will not cover because it is a problem that was not repaired correctly by the original new install of the exhaust by Austin's. Austin's will not help me with the bill which is not much, they will not replace the dpf and keep.their stand the system needs reflashed. The dealer chuckled when I called them about this and last conversation I had with the Operations Manager at Austin's, he made a comment in a round about way saying the dealer is lying on what.needs to be done. Now I have scheduled to have my truck repaired by another shop and have notified my insurance company about Austin's failure to repair my vehicle correctly the run around they have put me through. My insurance company instructed me they woudl look into this matter and to save the materials installed by Austin's and go ahead with my repairs at the other shop and they will look into getting the money back from Ausrins for the failure. If you have a diesel, stay away from Austin's pro max, they have no clue what they are doing and I will never reccomend this outfit to anyone. read more

I was referred to Austin's Pro Max for a muffler issue on my 2020 Subaru Forester. I have only had the car for a month, following an accident where my Mustang GT was totaled. The Subaru was suppose to have a 4 year warranty but when I called the dealership, he said he would send me a copy of the warranty. That was about 5 hours ago and I still haven't received it. I'm not sure of the name of the Pro Max person who helped me, but I believe it was Chris. He took me to my car and showed me what they could do to fix it. I had no idea of the cost but knew it had to be repaired. The next thing I knew, my car was repaired and I was ready to go, I still hadn't heard from the dealer. I was almost in tears when I was told that I didn't owe anything. I didn't know there were businesses that cared so much for their customers that would go above and beyond in such a caring way. Cannot recommend this shop enough. I've had them make custom exhaust for not only several vehicles of mine, but also several friends. Not only do they make the best performance recommendations based on the individual vehicle and take any modifications into consideration, they use the best parts out there and give you a great deal on them. They also, and this is a big one, BACK UP THEIR WORK! Had a catalytic converter break a weld and activate my check engine light, and they had me in the shop, the problem fixed, and back out on the road in under an hour, no additional charge! I've used both their Puyallup and Tacoma locations, great service at both. If you've got vehicle issues, or want custom exhaust anything, these are the guys to go see about it. read more

Really awesome place, Mike was very friendly and helpful! I went here to get my muffler removed on my 328xi. It was a quick proccess and the price was $155 ( About $75 for the muffler cut out and $65 for exaust tips) out the door! Prior to going to this shop I went to some other shop in Spanaway and they quoted me at $500+ just to get a muffler delete?? And they told me that it would take around 3 hours??! Here, it took them around 30-45 minutes or so to cut the muffler and weld the tips! So yeah, I would definetly recommend this place to others. Just make sure to come early as it's first come first serve and they usually are busy. read more

I have been doing business with Austin's for a little over a year now and they have been the most honest and respectable people to work with.. I wouldn't trust any other shop to perform work on my vehicles. I had an incident last thursday (1/1/24) and my vehicle sustained a decent amount of damage. I was able to get my vehicle towed to their shop on Friday (1/2/24) and they were able to complete all repairs by Saturday (1/3/24) I am always satisfied with the work done on my vehicle, if they mess up they'll go ahead and fix it for you.. very honest shop and I can't wait to do more business with Austin's Pro Max! read more

I was trying to surprise my USMC son with an exhaust system for his pickup before he came home for Christmas. The project turned into a nightmare for me. Horrible service. Property manager or owner, Bob has no control over his temper let alone his businesses and property he owns. Do not recommend fixing your vehicles here and giving a man who clearly has power, more money. He refuses to accept and have accountability that he lacks the skill to manage and maintain the multiple properties he owns and is a degrading individual. I was very satisfied with Austin' Pro/Max Tacoma. I purchased a exhaust system from another company, and had it installed at Pro/Max. I was quoted 2 hours of labor and maybe a little longer than that. I was pleasantly surprised when I got my car back in a hour! My service advisor stated that he had an extra guy, so he had 2 guys work on car instead of 1. Very happy with them, and will definitely do business with them again!! read more
