As a busy mother of 4, my time is extremely valuable, which made this experience even more frustrating. I drove over an hour each way to this dealership after making an appointment and already going over numbers with the salesperson. I came in with financing figured out and was fully prepared to move forward pending a test drive and final look over of the vehicle. When I arrived, I was told someone else had just taken the car for a test drive, so we waited for it to return. After waiting around, the other customer decided to buy it, and the dealership sold the vehicle right out from under us. What I don't understand is how someone who walked in after us was able to jump ahead in the process when we already had an appointment and were actively working the deal. It felt like a complete waste of my time and very disrespectful to serious buyers who had already done the work ahead of time. We love our Subarus and had a great experience purchasing our Forester, but our service experience at Tacoma Subaru was very disappointing. We had a scheduled 10:30 a.m. appointment for an oil change and windshield replacement. I dropped the car off early and was initially helped by Patrick, who provided a loaner, which I appreciated. However, he made a snide remark about how long the windshield had been at the dealership, despite my explanation that we had moved and that the part took a long time to arrive. Near 4:00 p.m., I was called and told the oil change had not even been started and asked if the dealership could keep my car overnight. This was never communicated in advance and was not an option, as I live about an hour away and have two young children. I was not notified the car was ready until after 5:00 p.m., with no apology for the delay. At pickup, Jenna informed me I needed to pay for the oil change, even though we were told twice that our first oil change was included--once when purchasing the vehicle from Mike McGinnis and again when the appointment was scheduled. When I explained this, I was told there was no note in the system and that Subaru "doesn't typically do that." The interaction felt dismissive and rude, and no solution or escalation was offered. I later emailed the service manager, Travis, and never received a response from him. I was contacted once by Jennifer, who stated she was not authorized to resolve the issue. The following day, we received a message stating they would not issue a refund. Between the poor communication, long delays, rude treatment, and lack of accountability from management, this experience fell far below the customer service standards Subaru promotes. We will not be returning to Tacoma Subaru, and I would encourage others to consider a different location if they expect to be treated with respect. read more

Racist & unprofessional. My boyfriend, Jesús, and I visited a dealership to check out a STI. What should have been a simple meeting turned into an uncomfortable experience due to the conduct of one of the employees, Mackenzie ("Kenzie") Williams. We had an appointment scheduled with a representative named Nick, who unfortunately was not present when we arrived. Instead, we were assisted by Kenzie. From the very beginning, the interaction took an unpleasant turn. After my boyfriend introduced himself as "Jesús" (pronounced Heh-soos), Kenzie asked for his full name and, without waiting for a response, guessed and referred to him as "Jose Hernandez." Not only did she mispronounce his name, but she also assumed an entirely different, stereotypically Hispanic name. The assumption felt dismissive and racially charged setting the tone for the rest of our visit. Trying to move past the remark, we continued the process. However, while preparing the paperwork for a test drive, Kenzie made a deeply inappropriate comment, stating that she had certain documents for him to sign "to make sure [she] isn't kidnapped and taken to Mexico." She quickly tried to brush it off by adding "or Canada," but the damage was already done. Her attempt at humor trivialized racial stereotypes and made us very uncomfortable. Beyond the discriminatory remarks, Kenzie's demeanor was cold, robotic, and condescending. Despite my boyfriend being a skilled heavy-duty diesel mechanic with years of hands-on experience, she spoke to him as though he were inexperienced or incapable--likely due to his age and ethnicity. When we pointed out visible damage on the rear end of the car, she ignored it entirely, dismissing our concerns as if the issue did not exist. When my boyfriend mentioned he was beginning to build credit and might need a co-signer, Kenzie abruptly cut him off with the question, "You don't have any credit!?" Her tone was unnecessarily harsh and patronizing. She then admitted she had "never handled a situation like this" and had to fetch her manager--an admission that reflected not only her lack of professionalism but also her lack of preparedness for her role. read more

Super professional sales staff (Jacob) who ask qualifying questions without being too pushy! He was one of the best salespeople I've worked with! Enjoyed our shopping experience and learned a lot about the brand of Subaru as we test drove a couple of vehicles. Didn't enjoy being handed off to other salespeople who are not as savvy, but understood as Jacob was slammed the 2nd time we went in. I hit a garbage can with my passenger mirror and I needed to replace the mirror itself and the bottom piece of the cover. Two auto parts stores told me Subaru will not let them sell the parts and I had to go to the dealership. When I called and asked for Parts, a man was helpful, made sure the parts were in stock and told me the price (almost $200 for about $20 of material). When I got to Subaru, the helpful man wasn't available and the woman who was available took my breath away with her rudeness. She asked me what I wanted and then paid no attention to my answer while she worked steadily on her computer. She reluctantly looked at the piece I needed after I was insistent. After being told twice I didn't need the top piece and examining the top piece which was intact she tried to sell me the top piece I didn't need, which I'm guessing would have been at least $100. The whole time she was rude and condescending and I felt cheated she tried to sell me something she knew I didn't need. I was so upset when I left I didn't get my purse's side pocket zipped up and I realized 1/2 hours later my debit card was missing. I called and a man I talked to who left me on hold for a long time eventually came back and told me it was in Parts. I drove back through terrible traffic to pick it up and they didn't have it. They gave me an insurance card, $20 and some stamps and said they hadn't seen the card which had been with the other items. I would have gone to the bank first if they hadn't told me they had it. As I turned to leave, very upset, the woman at Parts, a different woman, snarled at me in an especially nasty tone, "You're welcome," as though they had provided a good service and I should be grateful. Believe me, I wasn't feeling thankful to them. Those 2 women deserve no stars but I left 3 for because Steve, a man who was in front directing people to where they needed to go because some sections of the dearlership were closed, helped me snap my mirror pieces into place, which I was having trouble fitting. Terrible customer service. The owner chooses to blame me, the customer, for raising concerns about the inadequate "carwash" they provide. The carwash for life, which is actually a car rinse, is supposed to be offered to customers who purchase a new vehicle from this dealership. I have taken my car in four times and the car always came back with areas still covered with dirt. I asked employees how the car is "washed" and they said it is only rinsed with water, no soap and no brushes. The owner basically called me a liar for stating this fact on another review platform. The owner said they do use soap and brushes. However, the dealership's own website states a carwash is available only to customers that get a service done. A car rinse is available to all other customers who purchased vehicles from the dealership. What a disconnect this owner has. Now, why would they state this in their website if it isn't true? This is very deceptive, bate and switch. All I have ever asked is for a decent carwash. A carwash I was promised when I purchased my vehicle. Yet, the owner would rather blame me for raising the issue than address it. I even mentioned that it might be as easy as conducting maintenance on the carwash but apparently he is too pride filled to listen to my opinion. Prospective customers beware. If this dealership isn't willing to accept constructive criticism on such a simple issue as a carwash then what are they going to do in regards to major issues? I believe you will be S.O.L. Buyer beware. Do your research on the dealership you plan on doing business with carefully. Look at reviews and make an informed decision before committing. After you sign on the dotted line you are at the mercy of the dealership. Don't be a victim. Learn from our mistake. Catalytic converter purchased and replaced by Tacoma Subaru failed after one year. I had my catalytic converter replaced by Tacoma Subaru in August 2023. In November 2024 my engine light came on. I went to Tacoma Subaru and was informed that my catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The company Tacoma Subaru bought the part from had gone out of business and it took two weeks to track down the warranty, figure out repair options and pricing. The service fee was waived after I expressed frustration with the part failing so quickly. After approving replacing the part it took another six days before my car was ready for pick up. A day after picking up my car my battery died, resulting in a tow. I am giving two star only because my technician was helpful. read more

Last year my son bought a used Subaru there with 91k plus miles. It was a certified used vehicle. The even hooked him into extended warranty. At the first oil change, he had to replace the brakes. Now yesterday after his 2nd oil change, they tell him he needs the 90,000 service to the tune of $2000.00. What a crock. I feel like they took advantage of a first time car buyer. I had every intention of writing a 5 star review when I walked out of the dealership with a car I had wanted for years. The sales person was kind and patient, he showed my kids his modified Subaru and let them rev it while we signed papers and they were so excited. Unfortunately I cannot do that. Do not make my mistake. I had inquired on a 2022 Ascent and asked the out the door price and was given an excuse as to why they couldn't. I should have pressed harder, but didn't. The price and mileage of this particular car was on the surface very good. I wanted to proceed with the purchase so I secured my own financing with my credit union. I was approved for an amount that should have been very close to the final total. I communicated this up front before I stepped foot inside. Fast forward to actually going to the dealer and everything went well it seemed. They focused on the monthly payment, which was much more than I expected. We eventually got it down to a reasonable sum and moved forward. I guess I didn't realize that I still never saw an itemized breakdown of the out the door price. It was late and I was trying to leave, so the financial process was expedited. After we left I realized the total financed was $10,000 more than the sale price, I expected about $5,000 for tax title and license. There is no excuse for me not noticing right away. At that point I had already finalized the purchase and it was too late. I was upset and honestly didn't want to know why it was so much more. I finally went through the paperwork and saw that there was a $1500 charge for ceramic coating interior and exterior. I can assure you this car wasn't ceramic coated, 100% positive. I also saw a $650 charge for a new windshield. If I had noticed these charges at the time, or had they been pointed out, I would have never agreed to those. Even if that meant not getting the car. I accept my part in this, but there's no excuse for adding those charges and not pointing them out specifically. I walked away from a 2023 Ascent at a Larson dealership because they added a $1500 LoJack and $400 break system. The difference here is they immediately gave me the itemized out the door price and I saw those charges. Please, please don't make the mistake I did. Take your time and get the itemized breakdown of the total before you even go there. If I had to do it over again I would have gone to Larson, where at least they were transparent about the additional charges without me having to beg for the final price. read more

Here again after a while away. Have a 2023 Legacy Sport now. The staff is nearly all different but that isn't surprising. New express service building is ok. My only gripe today is having to pay extra for a tire rotation during a 6000 mile service. That and the oil change came to nearly $150. Call me old school but $150 for an oil change and tire rotation seems steep. This is a Subaru not Mercedes or BMW or any other higher end luxury or sport vehicle. It's 4 quarts of oil, a filter, and 6 minutes to rotate tires. 6 seconds for an F1 crew. Given this is the first service on this vehicle and I simply didn't have time to do myself I paid and was satisfied although a little put off by the price. I think I'll be servicing it at home from here forward for around $30. read more

It's been another year and still great service and friendly, knowledgeable people working at this wonderful dealership. Just dropped in for my oil change, tire rotation and free check (list of oh so many things I don't want to think or worry about). Not even 40 minutes start to finish. Just enough time to grab a free snack and coffee and wonder why HGTV is always the same show. I do love my Forester Wilderness I bought her (great deal and rate) and how nice the people are here. They also practice the Subaru recycling and sustainability as well as having food drives (and other items) during the holidays. Great dealership and I highly recommend stopping in. Just a couple of months ago, Tacoma Subaru sold me a car valued at around $5000 for $22000, meaning they ripped me off for $17000. Shoddy repair work, bogus warranty coverage.Purchased a new Outback. Got a great deal. Had all service done there. Oil plug fell out a month after an oil change and caused the engine to seize. Needed a new short block. Took 2+ months to repair!! and Their warranty didn't cover it. A random accident.!. Paid $8,500!! A month later, after 3 road service for dead battery, needed a new battery. That was covered. 600 miles later the heater froze and steam gushes. The coolant system is damaged. No warning light!!! Coolant hose wasn't connected at all!!! Again, not covered by warranty , a random accident! so I am out $400! What does the warranty cover?? Don't buy a new or used car from them if you expect to have a warranty honored. Disappointing. My sister-in-law has a new Forester with 7000 miles. Problem with a low tire sensor, so she took it to the service department. They "fixed" it, it came on again within a week. She took it in again, they fixed it again. Her app said it was the front right, same as last time. The service writer said the techs worked on the wrong tire the first time. It happened again, she took it in, was told she has a hole in the sidewall and needs a new tire. She bought it (they only sold her one because her tires were still so new). Less than a week later, she had to take it back again. The tire they sold her has a damaged stem. THEY CHARGED HER TO REPAIR THE STEM and said she would have to talk to the manager (gone for the day). She emailed him but has not heard back. I hope he steps up and does the right thing. read more

DON"T ORDER ONLINE FROM HERE!!! On 10/19/2024 I ordered a part from Tacoma Subaru. I received it just under a week later. It was the wrong part. I ordered the lower cap for my driver's side outside mirror. They sent the right side piece. So, I called to see if we could fix this. I was told that because I did not include the VIN, the wrong piece was sent because they couldn't tell what car I had (I had answered all their questions describing the car, Year/Model). I did not have access to my car because I was at work. I drive a work vehicle to work and home. If the VIN is so important, why didn't someone call me and inform me of this. If that were the case, I would have gotten them the number. Now, the issue at hand. They want me to pay to send back the wrong piece at which point they'll send me the correct one. I already paid nearly $13 to have the item sent to me. If I send it back, it'll probably be another $13. So, I'll have spent $26 on part for which I paid $20. I argued with the person on the phone, I did not get her name. I asked to talk to someone above her to try and work this out. I was put on hold, the woman came back on line and told the person's door was closed, so she apparently was with someone. That was 2.5 hours ago and "Renee" has yet to call. Just left the dealership with cash in hand and had two things happen; 1) first the sales person quoted me the sticker price rather than the dealership price posted on the internet ( $4,500 higher ), then 2) my trade-in was based off the wrong Kelly Bluebook value and they also said the 4wd in my truck didn't work. When I showed them the KBB.com price they just ignored it and then when I showed them the car inspection I received last week they ignored that also. All tolled, they ignorantly and blatantly tried to steal ~$9,500, hoping I would just accept it. All they could say was, "jeez, we never make a mistake that big". This dealership is so unethical! Yes, it is a car dealership so they're in to make money and there's just no way around the whole process but there are dealerships and then are better dealerships like this one. Went and got a vehicle from these guys in August I believe. I was told"this is a great vehicle" knowing I wanted to get something family friendly with a wife in the third trimester. After a not even a month of having it, back up camera screen was completely messed up. Reached out regarding getting it fixed but didn't have the time due to up coming travel that was planned straight into a 5 week out of state school. Upon returning and taking it out for a family trip to visit. I receive warning signs that stated "service shifter" going over the pass. Returning from our trip I got fed up and took it in to get looked at. After they had my vehicle for 2 weeks (I believe) I was told they couldn't find anything. The entire time I'm there the only thing I hear is "don't worry we aren't charging you a diagnostic fee". News flash buddy no shit you're not charging me a diagnostic fee for looking at a shit vehicle you sold me. The service people were kind and understanding for my frustration's. They noted hey maybe it's a grounded wire or something but when we ran the codes we didn't get any issues. Why are you going to sit there and tell me it's possibly a grounded wire instead of search for it and fix it? This place is ridiculous, I wouldn't recommend getting a vehicle (and every single warranty in hopes you don't have to use it) just to receive minimal help. read more

Getting my oil changed. Been so nice working from home, it's been a nice stretch from the last one. Seriously people, don't go to Jiffy Lube. I used to go there and so many horror stories from others some poor experiences from myself, it ends up costing the same...not worth it. The Subaru dealership is amazing. And yes they have Saturday morning availability if you can't go during the week. Everyone who has every spoken with me or worked on my car here has been the nicest human being ever. I've also never felt like I couldn't trust them. When they say I need something replaced or I will soon, they back it up with measurements and tell me approximately how long I can wait to get it done, etc. I never feel nervous coming here. Oh, they have also been amazing giving me free loaners a few times and rides home when I had more work done than an oil change. Work I have had done here since I bought my Subaru (not from them) less than 2 years ago: - rear brakes - steering flush - some other flush - a few oil changes - engine service and repair for oil leak under warranty - etc (last summer I went on a road trip and got everything done with my oil change that they recommended just can't remember all what). I was told to take my new (to me) Subaru to a Subaru dealership by a friends husband who works for a different Subaru dealership and couldn't be happier I listened to his advice! Let's be honest, nobody likes going to the dealership, am I right? In my case I was going with 2 kids that were 6 and under so the dread I had to go was at an all-time high. From the moment that we walked into the dealership, we were welcomed by Yoshy and the experience after was so easy with him. We gave him a budget that we wanted to stick to which he did, and that sounds like a no-brainer, right? We've had car salesman completely disregard out budgets though so that was already a green flag. Yoshy showed us multiple cars and answered every question, and I'm not a car person so some of them were probably stupid questions, but he never made me feel like a bother about anything. Once we had decided on one of two cars Yoshy built an estimate for monthly payments for us and then we were able to go home and figure out which car would be best for us. When we went back the next morning Yoshy welcomed us again and once we told him which car we were going to buy the paperwork began. Yoshy brought toys out to keep the kids entertained and even let my son play with the Tech Decks on his desk. If my daughter (who's 2) got fussy he found something to entertain her with, I mean at one point my daughter got her head stuck in a chair between the seat and back piece and he immediately got a drill and got her out. Not once throughout the entire process did, he ever make us feel anything but welcomed either. Once the paperwork was done, we met with Eric to finalize everything and by this point it had been 3 hours so both kids were done, but Eric was great too and just as patient. Once that day was done, we were going to have to come back to pick up our new car a couple of days later, we weren't sure when it would be back, so I had texted Yoshy a couple of times within the 3-day period and again he was always beyond kind and patient the entire time. We were able to pick up the car last night and even once the sale was done, Yoshy still went above and beyond for us. By the time everything was done my son was sad that we wouldn't be going back to see his "new friend Yoshy" again. When I tell you that I would give 10 out of 5 stars if I could, I mean it with my whole heart. The entire process was so easy and even fun. I would highly recommend that if you are looking to buy a new/used car to go to Tacoma Subaru and if Yoshy is there, go to him. The people behind the counter in the Express area of their service center seem to be much friendlier than the grumps in their regular service shop. My main beef is that Subaru charges $119 for an oil change. That's right. It's an outrage but if you go anywhere else you have to save your receipts, etc., if an issue arises later during the term of your warranty. Recently, when I owned a Toyota, Toyota of Tacoma only charged about $70, and they also do the routine inspection just as Subaru does, and their oil changes are COVERED for the first two years after purchase. For as much as I am paying for a new Subaru the least they could do is also cover their oil changes. This fact alone may influence my decision when I am ready to buy a new vehicle. read more

Awful. I went to the Tacoma Way Subaru for an oil change and got a diagnostic. The diagnostic said that I had an oil leak. I went back a week later to get a quote for an oil leak, and the quote to fix the oil leak was about $3000 without tax on top of $115 to get the quote. I went to a different auto shop and there was no oil leak. I don't recommend going to Tacoma Way Subaru you could be paying for something you don't need. There has been multiple instances where cars have been sold with open recalls that involve safety, many employees aren't even trained properly and mistakes made by the techs themselves have costed customers thousands of dollars. People have complained to Bruce himself but he cares more about making money rather than customer service. I will no longer be a customer there ever.
