Be careful coming here had a full exhaust installed paid $1000 and up ETS back to California called them about one of the welds they did is messed up and I'm leaking fluid from it being that I'm in California now I'm unable to take the vehicle back I told them if I take it to a shop down here will they compensate the manager got pissed asked if I was kidding really this is how they treat veterans please take your business elsewhere. I had a wonderful experience at Austin's Pro Max and would highly recommend them to anyone. I am in the market for a used vehicle and brought a prospective truck to their shop for a pre-buy inspection (I always do this with used cars I'm thinking of buying ... you never know what you're getting into with a used car). When I called to inquire about their services I got a friendly and professional response, explaining they don't do appointments - just a first come first serve basis - and that it costs just $100 and could take upwards of 2 hours. At that length of time I knew they'd be thorough. I brought the truck there the next day and was able to get it in straightaway. They were able to get 2 techs to look at it together, so it only took about an hour. They put together a detailed list of what was checked and what repairs were needed/recommended. The owner went through everything with me and included specifics of how much each repair would cost and when he'd recommend getting it done. We then talked about his opinion on the truck's worth and if it was of good purchasing value. I was able to use this information to try and negotiate with the dealer for a better price. Long story, short ... I'm still looking for a truck. I thanks Pro Max for this and being there to show me what major repairs were needed and what I would be getting into if I were to purchase the truck. We drove our Hyundai Santa Fe from Palm Springs CA to Tacoma WA. About 1 hour before our destination the car started vibrating and shaking. Once we arrived - I called Larson Hyundai & another Hyundai dealer - no appointments until end of August & NO suggestions or help. Called Austin's Pro Max - Chris was our light at the end of the tunnel!!! He said "bring it right in" - that was the SATURDAY before July 4th. What great guys - Carl took it for a test drive - found out we had a split tire - very lucky you guys helped us - sent us on our way with directions to the Costco for our tires AND "no charge"! They charge me almost $1300 for brakes and rotors a year later my brakes are still squeaking. On a brand new Yukon went to a shop down the road a year later they told me that they put my brake pads on backwards. He showed me and then he turned around and changed all four rotors front and back brakes for under 200 bucks. read more

As somebody who works in the auto industry I am disgusted by the near criminal level of malpractice and dishonesty. My girlfriend's vehicle a Lexus IS350 started experiencing a rattle around the exhaust manifold. So naturally as I had been referred by a close friend to this shop I sent her in to explain the symptoms her car was having. They quickly diagnosed it as a bad catalytic converter and said we would need to replace it. They then quoted $500 for labor which is high but reasonable but $3000 for the catalytic converter. Myself naturally being alarmed called the manager Steve and was told "that they were a business and need to make money, if I think that is bad I should check with Lexus as they are the most expensive". So I called Lexus in Fife with the identical part number and "the most expensive" dealer quoted me $880 plus tax. So off the bat theres a over 300% mark up for a part. But no biggie I just bought the Lexus part they told me WE needed to fix her issue. They go to install it and then tell me "the secondary cat is also failing" to which they quoted $750 for a universal cat that I was able to purchase again for less than a third of what was quoted. So after everything they put it all together, call her up and tell her it's ready and fixed. But not one minute after pulling out it was evident that the very same issue it was brought there for that we have already spent $2,000+ for the tax, parts, and labor at their recommendation on was not fixed. So after that I call them and they tell me they did not even drive it to check if it was fixed and that they can't do anything. This interaction has been criminal to say the least, Steve is useless on the customer service side and sales side. Now we are out over $2000 at AUSTINS PROMAX in tacomas recommendation to fix the vehicle they diagnosed. Shameful business practices that I will be reporting and can I guarantee that every single one of my family, friends, and customers will know to NEVER come here. Since Austin's Pro Max decided to text me I figured I would update my review further. When you try to intimidate a customer that you have done wrong it speaks VOLUMES about your business practices. It's always laughable for a business like this to talk about how they gave you a good deal by discounting their part that is marked up 300% after misdiagnosing the issue, their own mechanic said he never even drove the car to diagnose it or see if said issue was fixed. After doing business with the Puyallup location many times I URGE any prospective customers to drive the extra 10-15 minutes and go to a shop with integrity. Stay away. I had a stall that was intermittent, but stranded me twice: once before I went to this place and immediately afterI picked it up. The check engine lights were pretty much all on. All they could figure out was that I "needed" a new battery which, of course did not solve the problem. My 86 year old mom took her car here for an oil change. They called and told her it was ready. We went to pick it up and they said it needed $1000 worth of repairs. She agreed to the repairs and left it overnight. When we went back the next day to pick it up, they told her the bill was $1800 and that the additional $800 was for labor, which sounded excessive. I'm not sure why they didn't tell her that to begin with or at least give her some idea of labor costs. I feel like they ripped her off and took advantage of her. BEWARE! Bait and switch. Get any estimates in writing prior to agreeing to service. Called and was quoted "$250 with pasta and labor." Arrived to drop off my cart and suddenly they forgot to tell me about an additional $80 (so, $330 - $363 with taxes). Then, when In picked it up, they actually charged me $408, so $158 more than my $250 quote- or, a 63% price increase. Lesson learned on my end! read more

Sent my SUV with a air conditioning problem, without diagnostic, they charged me $340 to fill the AC up before they can work on the vehicle. I waited at a distance and watched, nothing was done, after 4 hours I was called and told I needed to replace the condenser and something that will cost me almost $3000. I had an unexpected exhaust problem with my '66 Impala a few days ago and I got a recommendation for Austin's Pro /Max as a good muffler -radiator - brake shop. I dropped in on Friday afternoon and they put my car up on a rack, diagnosed the problem, gave me a reasonable quote and asked me to leave the car overnight so they'd have time to get some parts. The next day, Saturday, they called in the morning and said the car was ready to go. It cost less than their quote and now my Impala purrs like a kitten again. Called to get some muffler work done, was told to come on down and the wait was 20 min and I would get a call with some options after they looked at the vehicle. 90 minutes later I walk into the garage and apparently the manager is just raising the vehicle. Over the next 20 minutes he takes 3 phone calls helping other customers and then comes over and says, yup both exhaust gaskets leak, about $450 to fix. LOL I say I came in for an exhaust upgrade. My guy went in to this place to get a power steering flush...they lost his radiator cap...claimed he never had one. He also was having new head lights installed and while installing rear tailights the technician plugged one light in upside down causing the rear view camera and light to stay on while vehicle in drive..And couldn't figure out his mistake for 2 days...Causing my guy unnecessary inconvenience!!! This place is superb. I was referred here by my trusty mechanics at Roopair. Rusted out exhaust, Roopair said maybe $300-400 so I saved up for months. I finally called Austin's and they said bring it in right away - they had a quote for me In about 5 minutes & I was in and out in just 40 minutes total. I was very pleased with my encounter with the crew at Austin's Pro Max. They were very busy to the point where there was a long line of guys and me the only lady. Chris at the counter turned the event in to a professional and calming situation. He basically let us chose who would go next and all of us were very civilized. He added humor as well. When it came to my turn, I had to try to explain as best I could about my van's problem and Chris assured me that they would have it professionally diagnosed and get back to me within 24 hours. He did. I applaud not only his sense of humor, his professionalizm but the honest and good work done on my van by their crew. I felt they cared and that they found the problem and fixed the problem. I went in today for a quote for cut out of my 2016 dodge challenger rt. I am buying the kit they just need to install it. The guy told me I would have to get new pipes and all this other stuff. And labor would be about 7 hours. When I asked around they said all you need to do it cut out part of my original pipes and weld it on. And do some electronic work. Which they told me did not cost alot. They quoted me 2,000.00for the work and that's me buying my own kit. And my original pipes can still be used wi th the same tips. Anyone else feel like they been quoted the wrong amount here or paid more. I feel like because i was a younger female and didnt understand much about what needed to be done. I just wanted my car to sound loud. I feel like I was getting played on the cost and labor. read more

Poor workmanship, it's almost as if a child had worked on my vehicle. One star is too many!!! Disorganized (depending on who I talk to, they have no clue if my car is repaired); they typically don't inform me when I can pick up my vehicle (I have to inquire); if there is a problem after I had my vehicle worked on, I am brushed off because they have no time. They come across as arrogant, dishonest, rude, and dismissive. They owe me a repair, and I'd rather eat the cost and go somewhere else. Took my hot rod truck in for a second opinion on the timing setting. I had the truck at my engine builders they set the timing I took it to promax for a second opinion this engine has less than 5000 miles on it never backfired any problems I just wanted to make sure the timing was correct the double check people's work. Got my truck backfiring missing and all kind of stuff they didn't produce any paperwork on what they did or their diagnosis they just handed me a bill. After I took it back and told him that they messed it up they told me they put it they said it back to where it originally was and then charge me out the ass . I will see you in court because the minute I left your shop I took it back to the original people and they documented everything that you guys screwed up I'll see you in court. I even asked for a refund if you're not if you're putting it back where it originally was why are you charging me that means you just attempted to do something to it their excuses will we spend time on it so you got to pay. Make sure you shop around. I normally do that before jumping into something but this time I didn't and got taken. After paying 625.00 for one muffler and exhaust system I called around to their Puyallup and Spanaway which they quoted me 225.00???? But in Tacoma I was taken for 625.00 for the same job? Doesn't make sense. Gary the Manager made excuses claiming their other shops uses a different muffler. I didn't know Flowmaster made cheap as well as high end mufflers for the super 44 Flowmaster. We had just left Seattle for the first leg of a long car trip when my battery light came on. I pulled off in Tacoma and used my phone to find a nearby repair shop. I called, and Mike told me they were about to close. I told him I could be there in 4 minutes and he agreed they'd take a look and see if they could discover what was wrong, but wouldn't be able to fix it until the next morning. I was disappointed but brought my car in anyway. The mechanic figured out it was the alternator right away and offered to stay late to fix it. Mike immediately got on the phone with the parts store and less than an hour later I was back on the road. I am so grateful that they went out of their way to help us out.
