Don't get me wrong, I like Pickle Ranch. And I'm no expert in pickleball. Pros: Music is fun and lively. Plenty of courts to go around. Seems consistently clean and amenities are fine. Cons: Maybe not so much cons, I just think APR has become a bit stagnant compared to East Side Paddle Club. ESPC is cheaper, with more courts, and just as many events, clinics, and open plays. ESPC also has family plan, which is very nice on the wallet. Level of play seems more challenging at ESPC compared to APR, and just generally more buzz. Still very solid place to pay, I just think they need to be more innovative or come down in price. read more

I visited last month on a recommendation from my husband, who follows the pickleball community online. When I first checked the website to reserve an open play spot, it was a little confusing: Level 1: Beginners (newbies and advanced beginners); there aren't many options for these sessions in the morning. Level 2: 3.0 and up (intermediate to advanced). This is the level my husband and I played, and we were right on par with the other players. Level 3: The advanced-elite level. Overall, we had fun from check-in to check-out and even walked away with some great T-shirt swag. At this point we have come to Austin Pickle Ranch quite a few times and we can definitively say it is one of the best places to play pickleball in Austin. From reserving to check in to the courts themselves, everything feels thoughtful and seamless. You can reserve courts in advance or walk in to play although we HIGHLY recommend reserving a court as it can get very busy there. Courts can typically be reserved for $20 during off peak or $40 during peak hours. They also have both indoor and outdoor courts for you to choose from. Parking there is very easy since they're right off a huge lot. When you check in there are also drinks and other things you can purchase. Again, the courts are very nice and many have seating areas for you to watch or take a break between sets. The courts also come with about 5 balls for you to use so don't worry about not having any. We've seen a few signs that advertise special themes nights or events here but we haven't been to any yet, but it does seem like membership here gets you a decent value back. This is just flat out a great place to play whether you're new to things or a more seasoned veteran. Definitely stop by and check this place out! read more

Pickleball etiquette was poor. I'm used to always introducing myself at the net. But it only happened in one game I played even though I attempted. Second, it was very cliquey. 3rd, players were quite rude for 'intermediate.' There was a girl who talked smack the entire time. She was beyond annoying. When I played with the higher players, there was better sportsmanship. I'm used to a competitive game but friendly. I won't be returning. Pickle Ranch is a great place for some indoor pickleball. I have only done court reservations, but they have open play as well! It's pricey, but considering this is the only indoor pickleball court in Austin, or at least the only one that I have heard of, they can essentially charge whatever they want. It's so popular, and reservations are hard to get during peak hours. I like how they have a lot of chairs and tables next to the courts. read more

Clean and great place to play Pickleball when it's too hot, raining or snowing. Place is well kept but a little dark inside but does not affect the playability. Bring your own balls as they don't have a lot of them to use. The only reason it's not a 5 star is that it is $25/hr more than the other nearby indoor places read more

It was my first time playing pickleball indoors!! This was a nice break from the cold outside. My friend made a reservation. Rates seem to vary depending on if it's off peak or not. I think the rate my friend paid was $40/hr, which seems a bit pricey, but if you get a subscription and play a lot of pickleball, I can see how people would sign up because there are so many courts! Almost all of the courts were filled and we were playing at 9 PM. They have their own parking lot but it was a bit confusing having to go around the building to find the entrance. I wouldn't feel safe walking alone in the dark, but once we're actually inside the building, it's quite warm and inviting. You check in with them and then go to the assigned court number. There are snacks/drinks to buy. I think they also sell their own tumblers. There are water fountains next to the restrooms. read more

We visited Austin Pickle Ranch from Houston and so happy we did! We were able to book a morning Saturday session - 2 hours for $15 - I did have to book it days in advanced before they fill up quickly. They separate open play to three divisions - beginner, intermediate and advanced. The intermediate is a big range (3.0-4.0) but luckily it wasn't so bad. Out of about 15 players, 2 struggled a bit with play but all the players were pretty patient and friendly. The lighting is bright so when hitting lobs, you feel like you're playing with the sun. Ceiling is a little low so you'll need to learn how to control your lobs. One court had a fan blowing so it may impact the ball a bit. I do like that they have artificial turf between the courts which prevented the ball from rolling far. The sound barriers are great because it wasn't that noisy as opposed to other indoor clubs we've played at. We def will be back whenever visiting! read more

Came here once and rented a court with seven friends, we had a blast! The place is clean and well kept, and the hourly court rate is totally reasonable when you split it between a group. It was pretty busy when we went, but the vibe was fun and energetic. Great spot for casual games or a group hangout if you're into pickleball. read more

If you're curious about where to find me most nights, it'd be here. My friends and I signed up way back in March before they officially opened and it has not disappointed. With 16 cushion-x courts, you can play for hours without taking too much of a toll on your knees and feet like you would regular outdoor courts. Each court is well placed with a seating area and TV where you can hang with friends if you book a court. Open play is all day from open til close and is divided by skill level. They also limit the amount of people per open play so you don't end up like some other places where you have to wait one hour per game. If you book a court with friends, you can all split the court cost unlike some places that charge per non-member. There are beverages and hot foods for purchase. The staff is always friendly and the owner is a pretty cool guy, until you play against him (he's a 3.5 at best) =D. read more

My absolute favorite place for pickleball in all of Austin! I love how inclusive they are for people of all ages and level. You don't have to have a membership to join in on classes. Most pickleball facilities are so strict that it takes away from the fun social aspect of the sport. Purchased a $279 pickleball racket and was told by employee there would be no issue if paddle needed to be returned. The paddle had either been used or was damaged to the extent it was unusable. Returned the paddle with 2 hrs of purchase and was told there was nothing they would do to make it right. At $279, it's absurd to not take the return and send back to vendor. They are clearly a Joola rep and the paddle was used for 5 min and returned in the same condition it was purchased. I would highly recommend going elsewhere for pickleball. I did it! I finally played pickleball for the first time! And loved it! I don't have a comparison point but found this venue to be welcoming, clean, with equipment in great condition. The desk was staffed by helpful people and the corner courts were ideal for us beginners who shot the ball in every which way. The inside area, the larger section of 20ish courts in two neat rows, was intense and intimidating with professional-level players. Man, I really wanted to make this spot my pickleball home, but it was way too hot! The space is HUGE, so I know it's got to be super difficult to keep it cool, but not impossible. If management can fix this one thing, this place would be almost perfect! The positives: The layout is great. You can walk around without having to interrupt games. Their open play reservation system keeps overcrowding to a minimum. The court surfaces are great! The barriers around courts largely keep the balls from interfering with other games. The leveling system is self-monitored, but it's still nice to be able to sign up at your skill level. If you're an off-peak hours player, then the pricing isn't bad. If you want to play peak hours, then the pricing isn't as great. It also doesn't come with free court reservations like a different club does for the same price point. I'm not a member. My friends and I booked for a weeknight 8-10PM and it's about $15 pp if you can gather 6 folks. Facilities are clean although I didn't use the bathrooms or venture into the 13 court space. Played on Court 2, which didn't have chairs and you have to cross court 1 (?) to get to it. It's still not bad. Plenty of parking, water available. If anything the lighting is too bright. If you're a member, you can book court times for a discount on the rate. I went here last week with a few friends. It was such an awesome facility with so many courts. It was $40 for an hour but split between the 4 of us it was $10 a person. It had a good amount of people for a Tuesday night. I definitely recommend trying to book 1-2 days in advance for a prime time evening spot. Otherwise you can book day of and get the time you want.
