If it's open and classes are going on when I'm at the park, I will poke my head in and walk about. In addition to the auditorium and wellness classes offered, a state-of-the-art recording studio is also housed in the building. Awhile back I was invited to stop over for a recording session happening with some neighborhood musician friends. My ex-husband is a musician and I know my way around a studio (sorta, lol). It was such a fun experience getting to be present while my friends were recording new tracks. Most recently (weekend of 7/10/26), I attended the three-day 2026 Rancho Alegre Conjunto Music Festival which was a BLAST! Free admission, can't beat that. Tons and tons of bands and performers. I wasn't able to attend all three days but am very happy I was able to make some of it. Saw performances from University of Texas (at Austin) Conjunto, Los Mungias, Texas Sweethearts, Harvey Valdez, Los Texas Wranglers, Grupo Dale Shine, and a few others. It was a magnificent event in a wonderful space. The auditorium is absolutely a community gathering spot for everyone.

I got the opportunity to visit Doris Miller auditorium today. It's been years since I've been to…read morethis auditorium. A fitness workshop with approximately 200 folks present was held at the auditorium today along with a workshop on Imposter Syndrome, which was informative in many ways. The auditorium, a medium sized facility looking much like a gym, is located in East Austin. A number of events are held at the auditorium - town halls, community meetings, performances, concerts, and private gatherings. The auditorium has an elevated stage and additional featues that make it flexible for different setups. The building appears to be aging in some areas. Parking was limited; however, free street parking was available nearby. A little history...Doris Miller was an American naval hero who played a key role during World War II. On December 7, 1941, while serving on the USS West Virginia at Pearl Harbor, he rescued wounded sailors, including the captain, and manned an anti-aircraft gun despite no formal training. For his bravery, he became the first African American to receive the Navy Cross. One key takeaway from the Imposter Syndrome workshop is that many times when we think something about someone, it is usually not true. The presenter used the example of someone being in class and looking disinterested. However, the true of the matter is that they were trying to Shazam a song unsuccessfully. Key takeaway...don't make judgements without knowing all the facts. Importantly, sometimes we are what is drvinging our imposter syndrome.

Austin Pickle Ranch is a game-changer for playing pickleball. If you have ever tried the sport, you…read moreknow how fun it is, though the booming popularity definitely makes finding open courts a pain. That is what makes a place like Austin Pickle Ranch great. They have nice indoor courts, which means you get to play pure pickleball without dealing with the blistering Texas sun or fighting strong outdoor winds. My favorite if the first one in the left as you enter. It's a solo court! Having only played a few times myself, it is the kind of place that makes you wish you could play more often. If you are looking to dodge the elements and get a few games in on well kept courts, Austin Pickle Ranch is the spot to check out.

Don't get me wrong, I like Pickle Ranch. And I'm no expert in pickleball…read more Pros: Music is fun and lively. Plenty of courts to go around. Seems consistently clean and amenities are fine. Cons: Maybe not so much cons, I just think APR has become a bit stagnant compared to East Side Paddle Club. ESPC is cheaper, with more courts, and just as many events, clinics, and open plays. ESPC also has family plan, which is very nice on the wallet. Level of play seems more challenging at ESPC compared to APR, and just generally more buzz. Still very solid place to pay, I just think they need to be more innovative or come down in price.

It's definitely an aging facility that doesn't boast the latest in exercise equipment, but we have those places around. Here's what I love: $2/hour child care, and it's GOOD -- people who seem to love kids are taking care of them. $1 walking track -- you can't beat that for a walking alternative when it's too hot, cold or rainy. Finally, great programming -- the swim lessons at Gilleland Creek, gymnastics for kids -- again, taught by kind, loving and knowledgable instructors. I really feel like this is a special gem that gives me the warm "pfuzzies" about Pflugerville! :)

At no time was my husband or I notified of an incident occurring at the facility or during art class. Rob McDonald and Whitney Seaton both employees of the Rec facility assumed I was aware of the situation solely based on speculation that my aunt who was caring for my daughter while I was away on business had been able to get a hold of me. The first time I heard from any party was when Rob McDonald called my cell phone to tell me the outcome or determination for my daughter's enrollment in the class. Rob called and stated my daughter could no longer attend art class at their facility. Rob and Whitney did not call us as parents to inform us of the incident or to tell us that you all would need to speak to all parties involved like my daughter or the other party BEFORE coming to a decision. They spoke to the other party ONLY and decided based on that one party. Due to the other party involved being Caucasian and us being minorities this does make the situation feel race related. It does cause my husband and I to feel like there are grounds for a civil suit for discrimination. Not only did you all reprimand my daughter, but you all allowed a white entitled father to also reprimand her. You all failed my daughter and did not keep her safe. Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Dept as a whole needs new procedures and policies in place to protect other children of color from discrimination like what my daughter was subjected to. You all are at fault for how this situation was handled. Young Rembrandts and the Pflugerville Parks and Recreation facility decided based on a "she said" scenario without communicating with all parties involved and doing an actual investigation. Our daughter was traumatized and terrified by the father that approached her. Rob and Whitney continue to word things like you aren't privy to what occurred at the facility entrance and framing things as if he approached my aunt and daughter. Please do not minimize or attempt to downplay what that father did. He walked up to my 8-year-old black daughter, and he said, "Did we have a problem today?" My then terrified 8-year-old responded to him and began to explain herself. This is a situation that no child should ever find themselves in. I will not stand for any injustices. I do not recommend this facility if you are a minority.

Our event was located on the rooftop where there's 4 courts and downstairs has 6 indoor courts, with incredible lighting it honestly mimics a nice outdoor setting. You can tell most people that come here are very skilled though so it can be intimidating! ESPC also gives the option for booking a personal coaching should you desire that. Eastside Paddle is a fantastic indoor court located right off Airport Boulevard in East Austin…read more It's pretty similar in structure to most other courts where you can both walk in or reserve. We're not too sure how busy it gets here but would still recommend reserving anyways. The parking lot out front is pretty tiny but we got lucky with a spot, just expect to circle once or twice if needed. The inside is very nice and so was the front desk person. Reserving was a tad tricky online but check-in was a breeze. They do offer both indoor and outdoor courts so keep that in mind when you book for options sake. The courts themselves are great. Very clean and well maintained with a side area for bags or anything you don't want on your person. The whole vibe of this place is very Austin, in a good way. They have an upstairs area where it looks like you can hang out as well as ping pong tables out front. This feels like a very community driven place if we've ever seen one. Eastside Paddle Club is a great place to reserve a court and play some pickleball and if not for living up near The Domain this would probably be our go to spot. If you're in the East Austin area and unsure about where to start your pickleball journey then look no further. This is the place to go!

Had my 5 year old's party here recently. It was fine overall, but a few things would make me pause…read morebefore recommending it for young kid's parties: (1) Cost for value: The Little Ninja party is for ages 5 and below and only lasts 1 hour. Then 30 min in a very small room eating. There was a larger room available, so not sure why 15 kids plus parents needed to squeeze into that tight space. Consider the add on costs: It's $50 for the basic party leader option (guiding the kids through 30 min of activities on the floor--which is a good value IMO), and $50 to bring your own food. Or if you use their food, it's $25 per pizza. So the $450 party is really at least $550, unless you just have the little kids run around the space (no leader) for 1 hour and not eat anything except cake. In that simpler case, you're probably looking at about $500 (with tax). (2) Activities: About 70% of the activities the led activities could have been done in any safe space (think variations of chase, like sharks and minnows, etc.), no need to be at Octo Ninja. One activity stood out and was fun, but not for all the kids, since it took courage and muscles. My kid and several others absolutely loved that part, but it was also a one-person-at-a-time thing so it was mostly waiting in line for that. If we'd gone with the cheaper party package that is $299 for ages 5-12, you get 30 extra minutes on the floor, but younger siblings wouldn't have been allowed on the floor (bc of the time of the party) and quite a few of our guests have siblings. But I do think that version of the party is a better value and worth it. But the Little Ninja version/package is a different story, though maybe still worth it for some. The staff was very nice and everyone had a good time overall. Hot tip: Know that your Party Host is the only one allowed to bring you things like forks and plates. So get that stuff sorted out before they start to lead the kids, otherwise, you're kind of stuck, waiting for them to be done with the kids, even if that's also when all the people come into the party room to eat. The front desk will not be allowed to help you, even though forks and plates are part of what they always provide and you confirmed it on the phone ahead of time.

Excellent neighborhood park, with an impressive amount of amenities, especially for its size!…read moreThere's a great playground area that even has a gaga ball pit (not many of these around in public spaces), and of course swings, slides, and playscapes to climb and balance on with soft landing spots. There's also a tennis court, a basketball court, and a nice little swimming pool. There's decent access to Little Walnut Creek behind the basketball and tennis courts, but make sure you watch for poison ivy. There's shady picnic benches and bbq grills throughout the park, and a nice gazebo area for groups. There's lots of open field space for frisbee, or anything else that requires a big open space. There's sweet 0.4-mile hike/bike trail loop. Lots of awesome big trees, native plants, a rain garden by the basketball court, butterflies and other pollinators, and probably an unexpected amount of wildlife. I've seen several birds (hawks, small herons on the creek), a bunch of different lizards, and of course squirrels. It's an excellent place in the University Hills neighborhood to get some outdoor time!

The ammenities also include multiple picnic tables, some covered seating, and some built-in barbecue grills.
