    Creekshow exhibit

I'm walking on sunshine, wooah I'm walking on sunshine, woooah I'm walking on sunshine, woooah And don't it feel good! This is literally how I feel every time I visit Waterloo!! I love this outdoor space/event park in downtown Austin. We visited on 11/12 to attend Creekshow and we were not disappointed. This is our second year going and we loved every minute of it. Not to mention the show is free!! The exhibits were all amazing, the performer sounding great live and the views to the stage are beautiful. You can stand on the lawn or play games like Connect Four or you can also catch a seat on the many lawn chairs and picnic tables they have. They also have concessions that offer some food choices and drinks. This is definitely a family friendly place for everyone to enjoy. I will be on the look out for more events offered to attend!

I attended the Greenway creek Show. First time to attend the show and the park itself. The drink options were plentiful, food not so much. Ample places to sit or be social able. Despite being a Tuesday evening it was packed. We were able to walk through the whole park and see the displays within an hour, we hung around and enjoyed the nice night. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I will say I was expecting more. More exhibits or lights. The previews made it seem like the park would be lit up with light/art exhibits and there was only 4 areas. I was happy it was free, I would've been disappointed had I paid for it and been that underwhelmed.

Had an amazing time at the creek show a few weeks back! I never knew this beautiful park was here, and now i have a wonderful place to walk thru downtown! I did take advantage of the 2 free drinks for elites they were so good! Loved the art and the vibe definitely a fun show for all ages.

It amazes me how many locals do not know about the Waller Creek walkway. Even when it is not lit up w/light installations, it is still a neat little walk along the creek from the access points by Easy Tiger or Waller Creek Pub. Every year the Conservancy puts on an art installation that "lights up the night" for two weeks with really cool and impressive light installations that are sights to behold! They did a really neat "partner discount" this year where you could pick up a bracelet that entitled you to discounts and specials at various businesses near and around the Creek. The info table was also handing out glow sticks so that you could become "part of the art". Because it is an awareness and fundraising event as well, you can make cash, check, or even credit card (they have Square) donations at the info table. The volunteers working the info table were so much fun and informative. I already can't wait to see next year's installations!

We went to the Greenway Annual CreekShow. This outside art installation involves light with Waller Creek in downtown Austin. We went on a night it was freezing (literally 32°) and sleeting. I sort of chose this night because I'm not a fan of massive crowds and I heard that this FREE art show is getting larger every year. For me, the decision in going when it was cold and wet made the night more intimate and opened my world up more. Perhaps it would feel the same on any other night and perhaps the crowds are just a rumor and it is lovely no matter what. Nevertheless, the art installation was nothing short of beautiful, immersive, and sensory interactive. My boys and I stopped at each art description to truly understand where the artists were going with their work which opened the experience up to us even more so. The artists really based their work with Austin and the beautiful waterways we have here. The path along Waller Creek, the reflections in the water, the lights, colors, and sounds made the evening magnetic. There is security all along the creek with a presence that felt secured and blended but not fearful. Austin gives their home a wonderful array of art but this Greenway Creek Show stands out from the norm. I would recommend this as a future show to not miss and will be making it a tradition we hit yearly.

What's so great? 1) Small groups with a low child-to-teacher ratio. During our week, there were approximately 8-10 kids and almost always 2 or more counselors at each outing. The curriculum has an educational/health & fitness focus, and the well-trained counselors are managed by a certified teacher (Tammy) who is often present during the week. 2) Exercise & being outdoors. The kids are moving most of the day, walking around town to see the sights, playing on splash pads & playscapes, or taking a hike. ATX Kids like to move it, move it! 3) Being a tourist in your own city. The kids (ages 4 - 12) learn to use public transportation and recognize city landmarks while exploring many of the cool destinations available in their hometown. During our week in Summer 2016, our child toured several art museums and historical sites, visited a few parks and walked urban trails. A highlight at the end of the week was visiting the Governor's Mansion and having snack time with the First Dog of Texas, Pancake. 4) Supporting a community-based, local nonprofit. ATX Kids Club offers discounts for children whose families might otherwise be unable to afford this kind of summer camp. They also serve as a CCMS provider through the Texas Workforce Commission. 5) Having a "normal workday" schedule for a reasonable fee. Summer camp hours are 9a-5p ($275/wk), and you can add extended care for 8a-6p for an additional fee ($65/wk). This is such a relief compared to other summer camps that require parents to juggle work hours for drop-off and pickup. I do recommend the extended care unless you work very close to the drop point. Downtown rush hour traffic is horrific! It was fun for us to see the play-by-play pictures of the kids in action on the ATX Kids Club FB page each day, confirming that our child was enjoying camp and making new friends. We're looking forward to signing up for Summer 2017, as well as trying out some of the school holiday and Saturday adventures later this year.

There are 2 teachers for 14 pre K children and maybe 3 teachers for all the total program. With too many kids, my child experienced bullying by both pre K students and older students. There will hitting, name calling and pushing that happened. The staff didn't do anything about it, write up a report or inform me this was going on. My kid told me everyday that boys were hitting him and calling him names :( The expectation is the children sit and color or sit and do a project for most of the afternoon. This is fine if a child is older but very hard for younger kids. Instead of thinking of creative ways to work with the younger children, they just kept telling my child to "sit" and that "my child should listen to them". The staff all have art backgrounds, no necessarily childcare backgrounds. They are teaching the pre K kids about "imagination". My child now tell me that "I don't like imagination". Between there being too many kids, the bullying, and the sitting, my child kept escaping. The teachers weren't paying attention and had trouble finding him and another kid. They had both either hid in the bathroom or left the building. This happened 3 times in 3 weeks (that I was told about) and probably more. Needless to say after a month we have pulled our child from the program. I would not recommend this program for younger kids. Wait until they are older, show interest in art and can defend themselves.
