TLDR: Austin GMAT review + Application Consultant services are top tier. Scored in the 82% percentile and got accepted to 3/3 programs I applied too with scholarships. I highly recommend Austin GMAT review for all your business school needs. I took the GMAT prep course with Dr Amar and he is one of the best instructors I've had. He breaks the test down barney style and covers everything you need to know. Every question I found on a practice test and the real test is derived from concepts he taught. I ended up taking the course twice, as the first time I wasn't able put adequate effort into studying, because I was still in my undergraduate program. Be forewarned, if you do not do all of the homework's and periodically review previous concepts throughout the course you will be in for a rude awakening when you take the GMAT. Everything you need to know is in the course, but its your job to retain it. Dr. Amar was nice enough to allow me to repeat the course a second time and I ended up taking the executive assessment where I scored a 155 (82% percentile). In regards to the application consultant services provided by Elaine. I can't recommend her enough. I was on a tight schedule to apply to two programs within a couple weeks and she was able to fit me in. She spent countless hours helping me brainstorm for the essays, reviewing them, and editing them. The finished products were amazing. I routinely had conversations with her late into the night and she made her self available to me whenever possible. She was able to completely redo my resume for me and was able to identify things I didn't even think about putting on there. She also helped me with all of the short answer questions on the applications, how to enter my work experience and extra curriculars. As a veteran, I used ServiceToSchool to apply to my undergraduate program, and while my ambassador was awesome, there was definitely a stark difference in the ability to provide information about the programs. Elaine's experience with different programs was invaluable, since she's helped so many students apply to these programs, she was able to tell me things that I was not previously aware of, such as different opportunities and in depth knowledge about the cultures/career outcomes etc. Elaine's interview preparation was on point as well. She essentially nailed 95% of the questions that were going to be in the interview and helped me prepare my answers to them. The ones she didn't tell me verbatim were just slight deviations from what I prepped for and were easy to answer. Best investment I've ever made. I have enjoyed working with Austin GMAT Prep, specifically Dr. Amar and Elaine, for the past year and a half. Both were critical to me being admitted to UPenn Wharton, MIT Sloan, Duke Fuqua, and UT Austin McCombs. I can't say enough good things about Austin GMAT Review. Although the cost can be initially off-putting, it's best to view these things as an investment. With that being said, I'm more than satisfied with the service I received. I came into the program with an above average grasp of quant, but I needed work on the verbal section. Dr. Amar helped me to think logically while completing the verbal section. He teaches you how to identify keywords and not waste time while reading. As for quant, Dr. Amar is incredible at breaking down problems and making them easy to understand. He also shows you ways to think outside the box in order to solve some of the harder problems within 2 minutes. He's brilliant, fun, and truly cares about his students success. However, you must be willing to put in effort and do the assigned homework as well. My first practice test was a 590. After the course, my two real exams were both 700. For those of you considering essay reviews and consultation, I HIGHLY recommend that you take advantage of their end-to-end comprehensive essay review. Elaine is incredible to work with and goes above and beyond when building your application. If I could give more than 5 stars, I totally would - taking this course was hands down the best decision I made in order to prepare for the GMAT, and I would even go as far as to say that this is probably the best prep course out there. First off, the course provided the structure that I needed. Before the course, I was attempting to self study with a random assortment of materials, and felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to focus on. The way the topics were organized in the course was very logical, and made it very easy to decide where to focus my efforts. In terms of content, I personally believe that its unlikely that there is an another prep course out there that is as comprehensive and well designed as this one. Dr. Amar is probably one of the best teachers that I have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things GMAT, and the way that he explains each topic is so simple yet very clear and effective. On top of all of this, Dr. Amar is really dedicated to his students and makes himself available any time you need help. There were plenty of times when I didn't understand a particular topic/problem, and once I emailed/texted Dr. Amar, he almost immediately responded to my question. If something was too complicated to answer via text/email, Dr. Amar would even take the extra time to get on the phone with me or talk to me before class so that I could get a better understanding. I can confidently say that without this course and Dr. Amar's help I would have been lost and would not have achieved my goal of scoring 700+ on the GMAT. For anyone considering taking this course, I would say go for it! I would also like to offer a little advice to any potential students in order to get the maximum benefit from the course: 1. Try your best not to skip any of the classes in the course. There is a much larger benefit to attending the class in real time as any questions you have can be immediately cleared, and being able to engage while the class is in progress makes it much easier to concentrate. 2. The homework is integral to being successful. The questions that are assigned are carefully picked, and if possible they should be completed as soon as possible after the class is over as each homework is related to the topic that was taught that day. Doing the homework as soon as you can will allow you to practice and solidify the concepts learned in class, as well as determine what areas you need help with. 3. Don't be afraid to text/email Dr. Amar with any questions you may have; in fact this is probably one of the key things that helped me achieve my target score. 4. Make sure to review the course materials after class and complete the exercises included. This is another tip that I think is fundamental in scoring well - this helped me get a much better understanding of the topic, and ultimately achieve my target score. Overall, I am extremely happy with my experience with Austin GMAT Review, and plan to use their services when it comes time to prepare my application materials as well. read more

Studying GMAT overwhelmed me pretty quickly. I began confident, knowing I'd put in whatever amount of time needed. I signed up for Manhattan Review (webex) after hearing rave reviews, but the instructor was lousy and I struggled to teach myself - despite being a strong self-studier in college. I resorted to YouTubing videos to learn the strategy and concepts I needed. Through that, I learned about Veritas - liked their videos, and signed up for their video-on-demand deal. While the course was good because I could watch videos and there were in depth explanations - it only got me to a 600ish level. About 3 months in I was nowhere near confident that I could score a 700 - my target - despite putting in solid hours. I started googling "UT GMAT Classes", hoping there was a solid class the university offered that could give me some structure and solid timing strategy. I stumbled across Austin GMAT Review and read a review someone wrote with a similar experience to my own - this person had used the exact same big-box courses I had recently tried. The big-box courses gave me some solid fundamentals, but they also got me in the habit of approaching things with ill-advised strategies. I was hesitant to throw another $1700 after already spending about that much, but I also knew I wasn't where I needed to be. Given the shear number of hours Austin GMAT Review was offering coupled with their stellar reviews - I gave their GMAT program a shot. After attending the Math Bootcamp I was sold and feeling very good - Dr. Amar is scary smart and I knew this dude understood the GMAT inside and out. I worked within the structure of his accelerate course (he actually let me go to it for two full sessions for no extra charge) and I started gaining confidence to take the test. Dr. Amar and Dave Lyon gave my tailored feedback that helped me improve my weak areas. I ended up scoring a 750 by the time I was done with the course. The course was incredible - people literally were flying in from San Francisco to take one-on-one tutoring sessions with Dr. Amar. But the effort has to be there on the part of the individual. For me, I had to be willing to work as hard or harder than I ever had before - in college, at work. The GMAT is hard stuff. The Austin GMAT review was a great resource while I was preparing for the GMAT as well as applying to multiple schools. I used both the GMAT prep and the admissions counseling and I HIGHLY recommend that you sign up for both! My journey started with the GMAT Prep classes that were administered online due to COVID-19 but Dr. Amar is such a great teacher, they were as effective as if I would have attended them in person. Dr. Amar is committed to the success of all his students and making sure you understand the concepts the GMAT test covers. The thing I enjoyed the most about Dr. Amar was his willingness to help me outside the online sessions if I asked for it. I was hesitant at first to commit to the Austin GMAT Review in part due to pride and in part due to the cost. However, securing a high GMAT score and getting into a good school were incredibly important to me, and I knew I needed a little help to get into the 700+ range. The approach and teaching in class were very different from what I had been doing on my own, and the instructors stress that you need to come in with a blank slate and open mind to their ways of doing things. This was so important for me, because I am normally skeptical. I can say with no reservation that this program is worth every penny and then some. Not only did I secure a score above what I had been targeting, but I actually looked forward to coming to class and participating. I was actually doing homework after my normal job and didn't mind it; I knew that any questions I had could be discusses in class in an open forum. The learning was collaborative in that group discussion was encouraged; this was very beneficial since all of us came from different backgrounds and there were many different learning styles. Dr. Amar is a wonderful instructor and is absolutely the driving catalyst for my increase in understanding of the GMAT. I highly recommend you prepare for the GMAT with Dr. Amar. In July, I took the GMAT and was (once again) disappointed with my score --- I had been studying for the GMAT for eight months on my own and had taken a course with Manhattan Prep prior to this test. I just couldn't get out of the 600s. One hour after the test, I called Dr. Amar based on his 5-star reviews, he spoke to me and then invited me to come speak with him that afternoon, in-person. We met for 30 minutes, and he evaluated my practice tests and results, then we set-up a custom game plan for tackling the GMAT. With Dr. Amar's expert instruction, I was able to significantly raise my score, including earning a 49/51 on the quantitative section and an 8/8 on the Integrated Reasoning. I knew exactly what I wanted out of this program, and I would be understating if I say that I got more than what I expected. It was that good!Dr Amar is well aware about the gmat exam structure, and the techniques he offered to solve tricky math problems, and managing time was very essential to the success of my exam. The tricks he offered to quickly spot issues with sentences was very helpful for SC section. What really impressed me the most was that it appeared that Dr. Amar was well aware about the strength and weakness of each student in the class. I guess that is why the number of students in each class were kept to a reasonable amount so that he could pay extra attention to each student. Before the class I scored 560 on a mock test, and after the exam, I was consistently scoring 740+ on mocks. Once the exam was over, I worked with Austin GMAT's referred consultant, Elaine, to work on the essays for the school. She knows exactly what an essay should look like and how the admissions committee would view it and what they will make of it. And that is exactly what I was looking for. How I got a full scholarship to a top MBA program. My GMAT journey started in September 2011 and concluded in July of 2012. I chose Dr. Amar (Austin GMAT review) as my professor due to his excellent reviews online. I especially liked the fact that we had about an hour-long conversation the first time we spoke. He gave me solid reasons to sign up for his GMAT prep class and eased the usual standardized jitters. I am extremely glad I chose Austin GMAT review. In regards to my strategy and how I approached the GMAT, I will first start out by highlighting what NOT to do, which is, unfortunately what I did when I first started the Austin GMAT review program. The first mistake I made when I first started the course was to believe that just going to class was enough. Not the case if you want to improve your score. The second mistake I made was not asking more questions while in class. The final and biggest mistake I made was to only focus on the quantitative part of the GMAT exam. BIG mistake! After I completed my first official (4th exam) I was completely disheartened and turned to Dr. Amar for help. He was very calculating as to why I did not do well. I was simply not studying enough outside of class and applying the concepts that he was teaching. Simply put, to improve on this exam, you absolutely must have a high degree of familiarity with the concepts taught by Dr. Amar! As Dr. A would say time and time again in class, "the question change, but the concepts do not". If you understand the concepts he teaches, you can dismantle questions quickly with relative ease. Dr. Amar makes the concepts very easy to learn. After I began to put a significantly higher amount of time towards studying, I noticed a big improvement in my score. For the first time, I cracked the 500 mark. However, I was still not satisfied. I asked Dr.Amar, if I could repeat the class, he encouraged me to do just that. During subsequent sessions I attended, I asked more questions while in class. Improvements were seen, but I still wasn't satisfied. In mid February of 2012, I sat with Dr. Amar once again and he advised that my neglect to the verbal part of the test was severely limiting me. Needless to say, he was right. At this time, I shifted away from the quantitative section and waged a personal war against the verbal selection using the concepts taught by Dr.Amar. After I spent some time on just verbal alone, my verbal sub-score improved ~55%. This was HUGE!!! From my first unofficial exam to my final official exam, my score improved close to 300 points. To say I am please is a grave understatement. I have since received admissions to my top school and have been granted a full scholarship. This past Spring I was preparing to apply for admission to the graduate degree program that I wished to earn at the University of Texas at Austin, the number one ranked university in the USA for the MPA program. I felt depressed about my chances of getting into the best school. I had not studied math in 15 years, so I was terrified of the GMAT. I did not know how to present myself to the university in such a way that would make me seem like a desirable candidate. I decided to start improving my admission chances by taking a GMAT preparation course. I saw that Austin GMAT Review had excellent online reviews on Google, etc. I signed up for the Elite Package. Dr Amar has mastered many difficult admissions tests in America, including the GRE, LSAT and GMAT. He teaches his strategies to achieve high scores on each test. His teaching style is incredibly understandable, clever, and useful. Math Boot Camp is a one day intensive refresher, full of clever tricks, on math topics from elementary school through high school that you take before you start the GMAT classes. It lays a helpful foundation for the advanced math topics that will be covered in class. I also signed up for 1-on-1 tutoring with Dr Amar, which I utilized after I finished the classes. He reviewed many of my practice tests, and for each question that I got wrong he carefully explained the strategy that I needed to choose the correct answer. He is incredibly patient and gentle, and this tutoring was very helpful. My advice to you is that you give yourself several months to practice diligently for the GMAT to let Dr Amar's methods sink deep into your mind. Unfortunately I only had one month. Even so, my final score improved 100 points from my start. Then I turned my attention to my admissions essay. I hired Dr Amar's recommended editor, Elaine Conces to edit my essay and resume. Elaine was inquisitive, intelligent and inspiring. She started by getting a sense of who I was as a person and what goals I wanted to achieve. I wrote five pages and turned it over to Elaine. After she read it, she told me what could be further developed, and what could be cut. When I struggled with how I could possibly benefit UT with my presence, she rattled off a litany of things because she came to know me and she believed in me. My final draft was a two-page marvel. I actually felt confident about myself as a potential student of the best university, thanks to Elaine's expert guidance. I finished my application to the UT grad school three days before the deadline, and to my amazement, I was accepted into the program on the day of the deadline. I immediately called Elaine and Dr Amar, my two guardian angels, to thank them for their dedicated efforts on my behalf. Austin GMAT review is much more than test prep. Dr. Amar and Elaine take an enormous amount of interest and devote a great amount of time to the success of their students. Once a student has subscribed to the general course, Dr. Amar is happy to let you come back for refreshers and provide personal assistance to get you past any mental blocks. He knows tricks to the test that can't be found in any other course/guide (I had the Princeton review book and one of my classmates had completed the Kaplan review). I was excited about trying a smaller program, looking for more targeted, personalized attention this time around with the GMAT. Being from Austin, I enjoy supporting local. Unfortunately this business is everything that's bad about small companies. They are not accountable at all to you being successful or teaching you anything. They require you to pay up front, and will not issue a refund under any circumstances. If you're not satisfied with the service or have an unexpected life event, they will hassle you, require you to send confidential personal information, and bully you with bogus terms & conditions, etc. After this experience, I would GLADLY go back to Princeton Review or Kaplan or any other big name test prep company.
