The LSAT was a true beast for me. It was so very hard. I was sitting at a 165. After working with Rachel for half a year while working full time, I got a 173 on the real thing. I give Rachel a lot of credit for that. If you're like me, you take an online LSAT course, read several LSAT prep books, take a bunch of practice tests, then plateau in the low-160s. The LSAT did not come intuitively for me, and as all LSAT takers know, one question may translate to one or maybe even two points. So, if someone can give you a tip to help you get an additional question right, that literally translates to an extra point on the test. Below are several tips Rachel gave me specifically for what I struggled with: 1. A necessary assumption question's answer may also be a sufficient assumption; don't get confused. 2. For strengthening questions, Imagine you're giving a PowerPoint presentation trying to convince your audience of something. 3. Using shapes is a powerful method for attacking certain logic games. 4. Try doing LR questions backwards. For some people (like me), the psychological benefit of doing easier and easier questions as you move along may help. 5. For splitting game boards in LG, split them using rules that form the biggest "blocks". 6. For some people (like me), diagramming frequently in LR actually slows you down way too much. Rachel pointed that out to me; I never would've realized it. I never thought doing away with diagramming would actually increase my speed and accuracy. I imagine Rachel would give you different tips based on your specific weaknesses. After all, the tips above were provided to me based on my particular weaknesses she observed. Importantly, the LSAT is already a struggle, and you don't need a tutor who's just there to make some money on the side. Rachel is not like that. She shows up eager to help more than anything else. Rachel is pretty unique compared to most other tutors/prep companies. When I worked with her, it was the first time that I was taught completely different (and more intuitive) ways of studying that weren't just derivatives of powerscore. All of the tutors that I discussed with before had their individual methods, but at the end of the day they were all just repackaged techniques developed by the big companies (like powerscore, manhattan prep, etc.) The thing about Rachel is that she doesn't fight the qualities that make an individual student unique; she embraces them and develops strategies that consider the quirks of a student & turns them into an advantage. For instance, when I was just starting out with Rachel my studying habits were all over the place. In particular, I had a tendency to hyper-focus on mundane/unimportant parts of the text. To combat this, Rachel didn't just tell me to "stop doing that"(which is typically what everyone else says); rather she worked with my bad habit and turned it into an advantage. She worked with me to utilize hyper-focusing for speeding up my processes with the easier material while also helping me form strategies to redirect this focus when things go south, which are all based on a very simple framework of attacking questions. I didn't have a very solid strategy for studying reading comprehension before, but now I actually have something that works for me that isn't one of the cookie cutter methods that most companies teach. I've been able to identify and break many bad habits, as well as learn to use my ADHD specific "powers" to their advantage rather than detriment. I honestly think I would have plateaued at 165 if it wasn't for her, her pin-point accuracy for detecting my problems were unreal. Before writing this review in depth, I would like to begin by stating that Rachel's coaching & tutoring was crucial in my preparation for the September 2022 LSAT, and her guidance was instrumental in receiving a 170s score on the exam - Rachel was a terrific teacher for me on my LSAT journey. For what it's worth, as a former PhD student with experience as a teaching assistant at a university, I can attest to the soundness & effectiveness of her pedagogical methods. Now, onto the rest of the review. At the age of 32, I decided it was time for something new, and started to study for the LSAT. I started off with all the usual recommendations such as The LSAT Trainer, the PowerScore LSAT Bible Trilogy, and The Loophole in LSAT Logical Reasoning. Self-studying with these books as well as a 7Sage account brought me to a good fundamental understanding of the LSAT, and after 9 months of studying, I received a 164 on my 1st LSAT. It was a bit of an underperformance, but indicative of the fact that some important details were missing from my understanding of the material & exam. I came across Rachel & Starpath Prep on Reddit after reading a positive account of a former student who had been a similar situation to me. After the scheduled consultation, we met over Zoom on a weekly basis for 2.5 months. During that time, my finer understanding & confidence in the LSAT grew each and every session as we went over RC & LR sections. As an adult diagnosed with ADHD, the organized daily study planning & check-ins were tremendously helpful in staying accountable and on-track. During our 2-hour weekly sessions, she made sure that all the fundamentals were understood to create a base from which to expand further into the nitty gritty details. She was able to quickly diagnose which question types were my problem areas, and also some more general test-taking tendencies that I had. Throughout all of this, she was patient & kind while being articulate & instructive - this was able to bring about both a well-rounded & pointed understanding of the material & question types. This allowed me to eliminate much of the hesitancy in my weaker question types (namely SA, NA, Flaw, Parallel Reasoning in LR). Essentially, my weaker areas were shored up while strengths were reinforced. As many who have been studying for the LSAT know, confidence is key and this cannot be understated, especially for those who are looking for a high score where the margins of error are so slim. With Rachel's help, we were able to systematically create a plan that gave me a solid sense of direction & pacing going into test day, and this preparation allowed me to take the real thing without too much additional pressure (as far as that is actually possible). I bought into the system, trusted the process, and the end result was a rewarding one. In addition, Rachel was more than accommodating with certain scheduling changes throughout our time working together as I still had other obligations in the midst of studying for the LSAT. Also, I do want to quickly mention that I believe her instruction to be of high value in terms of pricing given the quality & care in her instruction. When you consider the cost of tuition of law school in this day & age, and the potential difference in scholarship dollars at play with just a few increased points on your LSAT score, it should give one an appropriate & well-measured perspective on the matter. When I first came to Rachel for tutoring, I had been studying for a couple of months and had made good progress. In terms of PTs, I was at a baseline of 166, and had gotten a few PT scores in the low to mid 170s by that point. However, what I lacked was consistency and understanding in some of what I was doing.  I often ran out of time on RC and doubted my answers on LR, and that showed in the fluctuations of my scores. As Rachel knows, I ended up scoring 170 on my first test.  There were a few things that your tutoring did for me that helped me get there.  First, the strategies that we played around with regarding the RC section led me to find something that worked!  I think I had hit a plateau in that section with what I was doing up to that point.  A fresh set of eyes on some of the more difficult LR questions also did wonders.  The visual illustrations were especially useful, I thought (and much more helpful than 7sage explanations...).  I also really enjoyed the study plan and "daily accountability" and wish I had something like that the whole time instead of just the last couple of weeks.  It probably could have cut my study time in half, to be honest. So by test day, I was not nervous at all.  I thought I would do well, and I attribute a significant part of that to the few tutoring sessions I had with Rachel.  It allowed me to approach the test with a level of calmness and confidence that I didn't have the month before. I also haven't scored less than 170 in my last 4 PTs now (taken after the test day).  That consistency and confidence in what I'm doing was and continues to be worth its weight in gold.  I feel good about a future retake. If anyone is on the fence about getting a tutor in the last stages of their LSAT studies, I would absolutely point them Rachel's way.  I have no doubt that even a few sessions to "course correct" are worthwhile if someone is looking for a boost in points and confidence. read more

Rachel is a SUPERSTAR! After several months of self-studying, I plateaued in the low 170s and had no idea how I was going to crack my goal of 175+ with only 6 weeks until test day. I reached out to Rachel after consultations with a few other tutors, all who had expressed the same sentiment: improving ~5 points in the 170s on such a crunched timeline was a tall order. While the candor was appreciated, all I could hear was "you're asking for something impossible, it's not going to happen." While Rachel similarly outlined the reality of my situation in our first meeting, she was markedly different from other tutors in how quickly she pinpointed the aimlessness of my current studying tactics and emphasized all the ways we could make meaningful changes to my preparation even on such a short timeline. I also felt so much less alone or confused whenever I hit a difficult set of problems or performed worse than I had hoped on a practice test - I knew there was someone on my team who could help me figure it out. Within 2 weeks of working with Rachel, I hit my first 179 on a practice test and ultimately ended up with a 177 on the real thing! My LSAT journey was filled with a lot of stagnancy and self-doubt, but what I appreciated most was that Rachel remained confident in my abilities even when I was the most unsure. I only hit 175+ a handful of times before my actual LSAT, and my scores bounced around a lot even the week leading up to test day. At the start of my LSAT studying, I was optimistic about Logic Games and Reading Comprehension, but felt increasingly frustrated with my lack of progress in Logical Reasoning. I missed very easy or very hard questions with little pattern; even worse, I couldn't clearly see why one answer was necessarily better than another.
