I have been a student of this high school for about 2 years and I can tell you that there are so…read moremany ups and downs that I have with the school. One of the first thing I want to tell what I like about the school is the science fair. As much as what people dread about the science fair, it is a place where I get to speak about my research to a panel of researchers that have a common interest in what I am doing. Therefore, I learned a ton throughout such programs, along with many others that the school has to provide to me as a student. Because of these learning experiences, I grow as a student. However, there are some concerns that led me to give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I found that the school still follows the conventional schooling that most public schools follow. It is through this which results in high stress and bullying, which then leads to the underscoring of the school. Furthermore, the uniform policy does not change how it leads to a cutting-edge school (although compared to other public schools, it is). But overall, I still love the school and I wish that every low-income students and parents who are seeking to give the best transformative school comes to here before considering others.

I am extremely disappointed with how this school has treated my son. In the short amount of time he…read morehas been here, a former staff member harassed him--following him to the restroom, making comments about his clothing, asking other students personal questions about him, and constantly picking on him. We reported these concerns and had a meeting about it, but all we were told was that she was no longer at the school. While things slightly improved afterward, nothing was done to address the harm that had already occurred. To make matters worse, another staff member not only went around asking another student for my son's phone number, but she actually called him after school to ask about drama happening at the school--nothing school-related, and nothing appropriate for an adult to discuss with a student. This behavior was completely unprofessional and unacceptable, yet the school chose to ignore it. Despite ignoring repeated misconduct by their own employees, the school immediately moved to expel my son the moment he was involved in one fight--while defending himself. Given everything he has endured, this feels like retaliation. The difference in accountability between a child and adult staff members is alarming. There are also major communication issues at this school. Many teachers struggle with a language barrier that leaves students confused about instructions and assignments, and little effort is made to fix it. This is especially harmful for students with 504 plans, who rely on clarity and support--not additional obstacles. Overall, sending our child to this school has been one of the worst decisions we could have made. Even in such a short time, it has become clear that this school is not here to support or protect its students. This experience has been unfair, discouraging, and completely unacceptable. Students and families deserve far better.

In all seriousness, doing online research via Westlaw or Lexis Nexus can be difficult unless you know "key" terms. Sometimes, key terms are hit or miss. The cost for a library card is about $60 a year if you aren't a student or if you haven't had a City of Austin library card for the past 2 months. Anyhow you figure it, it is the best $60 you will ever spend if you work for a law office. I didn't go to law school here, but this library sure makes me wish I had.

I've always been skeptical about the droves of MBA grads that are churned out every year by…read morebusiness schools around the country. Of course, I'm biased because my graduate business degree focuses on leadership and ethics... and it's been the lack of quality in those two areas that have led to the various financial/business scandals that have plagued our country (and our global economy) recently and in past years. So, when I heard that Concordia University has launched its first Master of Business Administration program, my initial reaction was "Great! Another one!" But, then I took a closer look at who is involved in creating and launching the program (the director, Linda Ford, PhD, is someone for whom I have the utmost respect). I also saw that they had put out an open invitation for folks to attend a community meeting. So, I went! I'm very glad I did. I got to meet and speak with, face to face, the people involved. In what they shared in the community presentation there was full disclosure and none of the usual marketing rhetoric. I left that experience with the distinct impression that here is a group of people, and a program, that will finally produce MBA grads that will authentically get "it". What is this "it" to which I'm referring? You see, business is always personal because the decisions that are made always affect human lives... for better or worse, it's an inevitable consequence. For our country, society and culture to truly attain the potential and greatness of which we're capable, businesses actually must aspire to be more than just profitable financially. I believe the creators of the Concordia MBA program truly understand the nature of this reality and will be ushering in a new era of business leadership. Check it out:MBA.Concordia.edu.

Darrick, I am sorry that your experience was unpleasant. Thank you greatly for sharing insight. The students were there to help streamline processes and insure the program continues to surpass present and future expectations. Please know experimentation is often required to best solidify what works and what does not. Additionally, I am glad the "time" discussion was explored because the process truly will require two years of INTENSE commitment. The average time I spend is on average 25-30 hours a week, excluding the 4 hour one night a week class times. This can become a balancing act with a demanding career. As a founding member of the first M.B.A cohort, I have to say that our journey thus far has been revolutionary and worth the hard work. Yes, it is true that we still look forward to one more year before our program graduates the first cohort. If one is seeking a program that has been long established, it may be best to look else where or simply wait a few years to see what the real results show. As a small business owner, I already have had benefits out way my costs in less than a year due to this new graduate program. This is due to significantly advancing my core business skills and simply pursuing opportunities presented in direct, structured methods of action. Furthermore, a cost/benefit analysis on any level of education can be entirely relative. In my personal opinion, knowledge is worth more than gold- often priceless. If you have a drive for success, the program will undoubtedly surpass your expectations. Many of our students are dedicated to their graduate studies so as to further develop the nonprofit sectors they lead in. In addition, a significant portion of our cohort members are dedicated to full time corporate positions. The Concordia M.B.A's advantages that set it apart from other options in the Austin area include A) a Christian leadership setting that inspires change and accomplishes sustaining ethical business leaders for our future generations B) the possibility to work while going through the one night a week program C) diversity that makes the cohort learning style cohesively beneficial. I am honored to be part of an M.B.A program that is a perfect fit and has already changed my entire life in just one year. I suggest anyone interested to come to an information session, sit in on a class to observe the learning environment, and speak with various current students so as to have an array of feedback. God bless your jouney, and I hope this helps.

He struggled for years to find a subject he really enjoyed besides Theater which he took 2 different classes his final 3 years. Then, his senior year he took Forensic Science and Sign Language. He loved them both and had great teachers. He now wants to study forensic science. My youngest was a freshman last year and got to take Chinese, Intro to Engineering, and Biomedical Science. He loved every teacher and rarely had homework due to the flex period they have built into the schedule. They both ran/run cross country and track as well. The track coaches are nice and encouraging and the cross country coach cares about the kids. Both programs are very flexible with kids and their academics. Our experience at WWHS has wonderful! The teachers and staff all care immensely about the students and there is a huge of variety of classes for students to explore. My kids aren't top in their class but they make mostly A's and some B's. For me, I know they will be well prepared for college and have a good foundation of what they want to pursue for a career. Lastly, WWHS is diverse and my kids have been able to find friends easily. My youngest is very shy and quiet, but he was able to find a group of kids to hang with for lunch.
