I took the week-long PMP bootcamp course the week of 17 February 2025 with Mr. Phillip Jackson and below is some feedback that I would have found helpful: 1. Instructor (Mr. Jackson): nothing short of professionalism, courtesy, authenticity, and knowledgeable as a SME. During the course, Mr. Jackson continuously fostered a sense of teamwork amongst strangers in the classroom, leverage each of the participants differences backgrounds, and facilitated effective interaction of all the participants. 2. Instruction: was taught at a good pace, and it can be quite overwhelming at first. Nonetheless, I would encourage reviewing the material covered during the day, in the evenings during dinner. 3. Logistics: I traveled from Houston to Austin, and would encourage local attendees to get a hotel for the week. Why?; because I wanted to be comfortable being uncomfortable. As a family-man, I know that I needed to be away to really digest the material. Food options were great. And breaks are often enough to keep the blood flowing. 4. I took the mock exam within 72 hours after the course completed on Thursday, I scored a 52. Then, I took a TIMED practice exam a week later; and scored a 59. Next, I spent a half day working on my application; and 4 days later, after approval, I signed up for my exam 10 weeks out. Then, I started to focus on my attention on the quizzes. I studied a different task everyday for 2 hours. I also took a week off from work and used PTO and just studied flashcards, quizzes, notes and more. I took the PMP exam on 29 April and passed. My results were People: above target; Process: on target; and Business Environment: above target. Overall, you get out what you put into it. I am 43 years and more than 20 years removed from college, so I had to reteach myself HOW to study. Thus, mix that with working and having a family (2 daughters and a wife) and it was a long and yet very rewarding road. read more

I attended the PMP Boot Camp in July. It covered the material in an organized approach, allowing me to understand the "flow" of project management rather than providing an overview of the processes and knowledge areas. This in turn enabled me to better focus my studying, and understand the concepts and how they are integrated across project management as a whole. Jackie Ockleberry was my instructor, and did a very nice job presenting the material in a variety of ways. Her approach held my attention, and also gave me the opportunity to practice what we were learning. She made homework suggestions and walked us through the Project Management Academy website, which I used each evening to reinforce what was covered during the day, as well as to better prepare for the next day's material. Jackie did not focus any of the conversation on her past experiences, instead providing a real-world example for us to consider and discuss as we moved through the material. I found this very helpful. Jackie also made herself available after the course. I sent her emails to ask questions, get clarifications, and to keep her abreast of my progress. I felt like I had my own personal cheerleader as I prepared, and this kept me encouraged and focused. Thanks! The PMA website was also a great resource as I prepared for the exam. I used the flashcards, the online courses and quizzes, and of course the practice tests. I passed with Proficiency the first time, and feel my success was in large part to Jackie's instruction and the PMA resources. read more

I took the class with Mr Phillip Jackson Sr. the second last week of March and passed my PMP exam first week of May. I did my training through a different agency before but decided to go with PMP Academy because a colleague that signed up with them, also got certified. So glad I chose PMP Academy and had Phillip Jackson Sr. as my instructor. He kept the class very interesting and I didn't even realize how the four days passed. It is a lot of material to cover in three days but his memory hooks, review after each process and real life scenarios made it easy to understand the concepts that I completely missed before. I also liked the fact that emphasis of the class on not just the process knowledge but exam taking tips. Those tips were very helpful and key to the preparation process. The idea of the mock exam on the fourth day was excellent because it helped know where I was and to focus on weak areas. Based on my performance in the mock exam, the estimate I was given was to take the exam between 4-6 weeks. That was very accurate for me because it was enough time to review all the material and do plenty of practice tests. The materials provided in the portal website had everything to prepare as well, from videos to exercises and full length practice tests, it was a complete package. I was privileged to complete the Project Management Academy Bootcamp in May of 2020 conducted by Mr. Phil Jackson. I had never taken a project management training course up to that point and would recommend it to anyone who is serious about passing the PMP exam. It was collaborative, informative, and packed full of practical insights, and tips that literally played over and over again in my head when I took and passed the exam just two weeks ago. I was thoroughly exposed to the PMBOK Guide in a practical and meaningful way, as well as challenged to develop strategic study habits for learning an enormous amount of material in ways that were easy to remember. Mr. Jackson is an expert and a professional, able to teach vast amounts of information in ways that not only helped me pass the exam with Above Target scores but will also help me to contribute to the project management discipline. I look forward to taking additional training courses from him in the future. I attended this PMA training in Austin, TX, June 2018 session. I passed the PMP exam on my first attempt! John D is a talented and personable instructor, highly experienced and knowledgeable in real world Project Management. The class is very well structured and was well taught. The additional training materials provided helped in understanding the course content and being able to apply the concepts much better than I would have been able to by simply reading the PMBOK. The class ends with a practice exam which helps to get a sense of what the real exam is like. The PMA website is full of additional material, such as printable "cheatsheets" of formulas and knowledge areas. The available additional practice exams helped a lot while preparing for the actual exam, and I felt confident and ready when it came time to go to the test center and make it happen! If you're considering your PMP certification, I highly recommend Project Management Academy for preparation. I was very impressed by my experience with the Project Management Academy 4-Day Bootcamp. And results speak for themselves: I passed my test the first time, hooray! Asad Haque did something no other instructor has ever done for me--hold my attention for four eight-hour days and fill my brain with exactly what I needed to know. He used interesting real-world anecdotes (both scripted and from his own experience) to illustrate the concepts behind the PMI terms and processes, offered clever studying strategies and de-mystified the entire PMP certification rigamarole. PMA's material was very useful as well--as a previous reviewer noted, all the books and documentation are included, and I found the PMA website resources to be invaluable. The practice questions, exams, tips & tricks were great! I feel like I more than got my money's worth--by just Getting It Done! (Cue David Allen!) I had looked at taking several paths to my PMP certification -- classes at the local community college, self-study using variously acclaimed books and websites, and other "quick study" courses. Phillip Jackson was wonderful! I took this course in July 2019 and passed the PMP on my first try one month later. This course lays a really solid foundation for putting all of your informal PM experience into the PMI framework. Phillip does a great job of explaining things and showing you how the pieces of the puzzle fit together. I did a lot of research before choosing, and considered courses that were more than two times the cost of this one. Aside from cost, what I liked about this approach was that I felt like they really wanted to make sure I understood the PMI methodologies and framework, not JUST pass the exam. At the end, I passed the exam BECAUSE I understood the methodologies. I felt like a lot of other courses were focused on just memorization and this was more than that. I am convinced I wouldn't have passed had I just memorized a couple of sheets of paper. Great experience, wonderful materials, amazing resources and even support after all included in what you paid. If you're considering taking a bootcamp to help you prep for your PMP exam I'd definitely recommend this one! read more

I was a candidate for the PMP (Project Management Professional certification). It's a highly valued and esteemed cert within my professional community as well as many others internationally. I selected Project Management Academy because of it's reputation by word of mouth and I really needed to nail this exam for my career enhancement. I was struggling. I took the August 2017 course with John Dokos as the instructor and passed the exam on the first attempt with ease. The Project Management Academy (PMA) materials, the excellent online learning and practicing platform in conjunction with John's intelligent and clear instructions and advise on how to pass the exam proved to be invaluable in bringing some clarity to the PMBOK contents and helped me focus on those materials that are needed to pass. This methodology and John's help brought the scope of what needed to be studied to a very manageable measure. One still needs to learn but there is no need to read the entire PMBOK (especially not multiple times as an online course I had purchased before suggested). If you want to pass the exam quickly and don't want to spend weeks studying stuff you don't need for the exam or anything else, PMA is the way to go. And based on my personal experience I would strongly recommend to sign up with John as the instructor as his calm, clear and very focused way of explaining the material made it so much easier to succeed with the PMP exam. read more

After doing some research on several PMP Prep courses, I decided to go with PMA and it was a great decision. My prep course was taught by Phillip Jackson in February over two weekends. The material can be intense and is certainly not all easy and fun. However Phillip made it enjoyable and easy to follow the concepts and understand the ideas behind PMBOK. He has tremendous amount of experience in the field and also in teaching, so with that comes great deal of insight. Due to Covid-19 pandemic situation, my original exam schedule was cancelled and rescheduled for just this past weekend. Thankfully I was able to dedicate some more time in studying. I took 5 mock up exams and my last score was 86 so I was pretty confident. However during the actual exam, I had trouble with time management which was never an issue during mock ups. Thankfully I passed and I am beyond elated!! My tip for everyone is do not underestimate the exam and how intense questions can be. Put in the time and effort and the feeling of accomplishment you get after you PASS is so worth it! read more

I took the class with Mr Phillip Jackson Sr the first week of February, and passed my exam on the first try a few weeks later. After reading countless forums and articles about the preparation required for the PMP exam, I am extremely grateful that Project Management Academy exists, for a several key reasons. Mr Phillip Jackson Sr. was a fantastic instructor. He is a real pro who has been there, and understands every topic of the PMBOK. His real life scenarios made the PMBOK easy to digest. To be honest, probably the best teacher I have ever had. Another fact is that everything is centrally located on one website with one login. Reading people's stories about scrapping and scavenging the internet, buying a several different prep books, and such sounded like a lot of time wasted that could be used listening to the online lectures. The portal website gives you absolutely everything you could possibly need to pass the exam, particularly the full length practice tests. In short... Take the boot camp if you want your PMP. In Long... I attended the Project Management Boot camp in Austin the week of July 11th. I had tried reading the PMBOK and was getting nowhere in retaining the knowledge needed to pass my PMP exam. I heard from a friend about PMI and begged, borrowed and, well just borrowed the money for the class. I am so thankful that I did. While reading the PMBOK (as hard as it may be) is crucial to passing the exam, the boot camp was by far the best resource to actually learn the information needed to pass the PMP Exam... My Class was led by Mr. Philip Jackson, PMP. He made the material interesting and related it to real world stories and examples. He made learning the PMBOK fun!!! The knowledge, tips and tricks I learned in the class allowed me to pass my PMP exam yesterday!!! YAY!!! Thank you to Mr. Jackson for all the help and support and thank you to PMI for putting together a world class program. read more

I attended the four day course in ATX, Oct 18' and I just certified this week! It was my first attempt and I scored above target in four of the five process groups. Phillip Jackson was my instructor and he was able to condense and make palatable a vast amount of information in those four days (Total face to the fire hydrant). His engaging approach, pleasant disposition and sage advice was invaluable to what otherwise could have been a dull and convoluted subject matter. I would strongly advise anyone interested in a boot camp style exam prep to consider this course. Also, PMA's online mock exams and the training aids distributed in class, were the backbone of my study regime after completing the course. Some people may read the PMBOK cover to cover, which I cant imagine doing. So the supplemental study tools provided by PMA really saved the day. PMA offer a fantastic service and I highly recommend them. Our tutor Asad Haque was a gifted teacher: he understood the difference between the real world and "the PMI version", and created meaningful connections that made the material relatable and memorable. It was a brain straining 4 days but he broke it down into easy-to-digest chunks and kept us motivated throughout. While the class might seem expensive, the study materials are all inclusive so no additional books or study aids are necessary. The online site offers extensive support via practice tests, expert forums, weekly webinars and categorized practice questions (which include answers and detailed explanations OF the answer -- priceless). This class isn't about becoming a better project manager: PMA focus on ensuring you pass the test, and they're very very good at it. read more

I attended the Austin bootcamp from 2/19 - 2/22 with Phillip Jackson and passed my exam on 3/21. Considering how complex and convoluted the content for the PMP exam is, the course is laid out and taught in an incredibly logical and easy-to-digest manner. It's a lot of material to cover, but their format and instructor-led class helps cut through the weeds of the PMBOK. (Books are included! Don't waste your money on a PMBOK guide if you plan to take their bootcamp!) I was able to pass the exam after completing the bootcamp on 2/22, finishing with the in-class practice exam, noting the areas which needed work, and working some practice questions the 2 days leading up to my exam on 3/21. Everything you need to know is covered by the course, and I scored better than I thought I would on the exam. I highly recommend their PMP bootcamp! read more

I took the PMP prep course virtually in November 2016 and passed the exam in December 2016. Although this course was more expensive than some of the other options out there, it was well worth it. As soon as I signed up they sent me a package that included a binder with notes, laminated cards to help with memorization, and flashcards. I also immediately was able to login to the portal and take practice exams and watch videos on topics. The actual course took 3.5 days with the last .5 day taking a mock exam and reviewing any questions with the facilitator. Overall I felt very prepared going into the exam not only because of the materials provided but our facilitator provided the class with tips and tricks on how to take the exam. I would recommend this course to anyone sitting for the PMP - either virtually or in person. read more

Went into the PMP, not having studied any concepts or readying the PMBOK before taking the class. Nice job by Phillip Jackson getting the concepts planted into my head to get me to focus on the things that I needed to work on to not only understand all the concepts but pass the exam. His insight is great in making sure you are successful - yeah during the class many things will go straight over your head (if you have NEVER touched a PMP book) but after going through the on-line material, reading through the class material, taking numerous timed prep exams & studying 60 to 80 hours for a good 6 weeks post taking the above class passed first time out (even at Above Target). I PASSED the PMP exam last Friday! I took a boot camp through the Project Management Academy at the end of February and it helped immensely. Michael J Martin II was my instructor and he did a fantastic job in preparing me for the exam. He drilled home the concepts and my exam results are a testament to his effectiveness as an instructor. I did not read the entire PMBOK, just the pages that Michael called out during class. I took 5 practice exams and reviewed each one thoroughly. I read the PMP Strategy Guide twice and utilized the flash cards on the PMA website. I studied rigorously for a total of 4 weeks including the boot camp. As a result of this preparation I scored "Above Target" in all domains. I would highly recommend taking a boot camp through the PMA before attempting the PMP exam! read more

I attended the PMP Bootcamp course March 20-23, 2017. My instructor, Phillip Jackson, was charismatic and engaging. The material was presented in such a way that I could connect with and understand the flow, which was helpful in retaining the extensive amount of information presented over the course of four days. His suggested 'memory hooks' and focus material was spot on! His real world, personal examples generated memorable reference points. In addition, the online PMA portal material, specifically the timed practice exams, were the key to fill the study gaps and gain perspective of where I needed to focus my attention.
