We have a dog that is friendly and loving but when he has a chance, he runs into the woods near our home to play. It takes time to find him and bring him home. Late last year (2023), we paid Tony, the proprietor of Austin Board And Train, $1400 to train our dog to do three things: (1) to heel on and off the leash, (2) to sit and stay, and (3) to come when he is called so that he does not run away. We wrote these three things down for Tony. Tony had our dog for two weeks. When he brought our dog back, he ran away while Tony was attempting to show us that he would not run away, and we all had to go find him. Tony used a shock collar to train our dog. The dog does not heel and cannot be walked without the shock collar. He does not stay when told to sit and stay. Tony advised us to continue working with the dog with the shock collar. Tony accomplished nothing we asked for. We have a dog that does not like a shock collar and still runs away and does not heel when walked on a leash. I called Tony for a refund and he refused, even though it is clear that he did not give us the benefit of our bargain. He offered to retrain our dog, but he had his chance and we don't have confidence in his methods. For these reasons, we do not recommend hiring Austin Board and Train. read more
