David Arkin of Austin fence and deck presents an imposing stature at 6'5" but he is a very courteous and respectful person. Austin F&D did an amazing job on our patio addition. They provide excellent feedback, quick response time and truly elegant work.

On Jan 31, I received a phone call from their office manager as well as someone else (owner maybe?) stating that they had reviewed my claim and authorized reimbursement, and they said the holdup was a miscommunication between management and accounting - I can understand that, and mistakes are made. Now it is Feb 22, almost a month later, and nothing. Large businesses sometimes have issues with AP being timely, but a small business should have been able to address that the same or next day. My wife is an account for a local non-profit and told me that if anything like this happened to their business it would be addressed within hours rather than days. I guess my next step is small claims, which is unfortunate since the cost of pursuing this is about as much as the damages (about $150.00 USD) Austex Fence & Deck sucks.

Boards used in my fence were cracked already

If I could give less than a one star I would. Our neighbor gathered 500 signatures of residents that are having issues with their Austex fence. Ours fell and we have been here barely three years. 2 sides are falling and my neighbor's fence section fell as well. Pictures included. When I called before the one year warranty was up they sent guys that said everything was fine. Do these pictures look like a fence that is fine? Fences are so expensive to fix. I had to use Austex with my house build. If I had a choice I would not have used them. They wouldn't repair or fix it. But now that it is out of warranty they won't do anything. I called at least half a dozen times. Update7/19/2020: I had to repair my fallen fence. Cost me another $2000. In the future, if Austex is the fence company, I will wait on the fence and do it myself. I had to pay TWICE for a fence. RIDICULOUS. I posted the pics of the pieces of concrete found in each post hole. Not enough to hold the post which is why it fell.

The 5 panels that we needed fixed. This was going to be $155 if we couldn't have fixed it ourselves.

THEY QUOTED $155 TO PUT UP 5 PLANKS. My fence is a year old, still in pretty good condition, and a small section blew down with the last little storm that blew through. My husband put it back up- all but 5 panels that had cracked in half. The panels are 4" dog-eared and Home Depot and Lowe's were out of that size so he called the company to see about getting some. The quote is ridiculous for the work that needed to be done, especially since we really just needed to know where to buy the right sized panels. Update- Panels are a dollar and we found them at McCoy's. So we were able to fix the fence for under $10 and save the cost of labor to put up five panels. The company owner explained the high cost is due to lumbar shortage but I find that very hard to wrap my mind around for 5 panels (or even 7 apparently) when materials are less than $10 so that's $145 in labor for 5 pickets to be nailed in with a nail gun ‍ I mean look at the picture and think if that would be $155....

I contacted Austex Fence for a quote on the installation of a wrought iron gate in our existing wrought iron fence. Their fence specialist, Tom Beville, showed up and gave us a quote and explained the process. He was very professional and very friendly, and he answered all of my questions. We then scheduled to have it installed. They require 50% down, then the remainder upon completion. Austex was great on communicating the scheduled start date and responding to my e-mail inquiry about the crew not showing up on the scheduled date. Austex apologized for the crew failing to show and they said they'll be there the next day. A crew showed up the next day and they cut out the section and cemented in the new post. Then the following day a worker showed up to finalize the install. They use the section they cut out for the gate itself. They installed the hinges, the lockable latch, welded what needs to be welded, painted the weld areas, put the cap on the new post and it's done !!! Worthy of a bookmark and a try if you're looking for gate or fencing installation.

    Huge gap between fences

Worst fencing job I've ever seen! There is gaps so big I can see into my neighbors fence!! Broken boards, some flipped out, this job was a complete mess. They say weather permitting but can't put during a rainstorm, which completely destroyed my grass. I was left with holes in my lawn from where they removed the old posts. Save yourself the headache and go with a real fencing company. I'm embarrassed I had to pay for this!!

The split post doesn't quiiiiiiiiite go end to end. Warranty denied!

Beware of shoddy construction! We bought a new home, and Austex built the fencing for the neighborhood. The builder, as is customary, picked the lower cost materials. Less than one year later, our fence that we share with a backyard neighbor began listing at one post. We suspected the post was either rotting or wasn't dug deep enough. Regardless, the fence continued to list over time, getting to about 30 degrees to the ground at one point. All attempts to keep the fence upright failed (zip ties, propping up, etc). After several weeks, one of the panels had enough and finally fell off. We attempted to prop it up several times to try and regain some privacy while we pursued a warranty claim, but it blew down several times (as one would expect when you prop up an unsecured giant wind sail). Now - to the warranty claim. Our warranty claim was denied for three reasons. Let me quote here: 1. the fallen panel is an "Act of God" due to the wind storm which is not under warranty. 2. Crack/split posts are a normal checking. Unless there is a complete opening from one end to the other, it will be under warranty. 3. The ground is dry, no grass. When the ground is very dry, the post are going to get loose and panels as well. Let's get into these one by one. 1. It's a bit presumptuous to assume the panel fell due to "the wind storm". I'm not sure which wind storm exactly they are referring to, but no weather event caused that post to list slowly over several weeks. Our friend gravity was the final straw for that panel. 2. You can see in the picture the post juuuuuuuuuust barely isn't a complete opening from one end to the other. Good customer service is using the letter of the law to avoid accountability! 3. There was no grass along the fence line because my wife and I had spent three weekends removing a veritable forest of luscious weeds from the fence line. I'm not sure the weeds got the memo the ground was dry, since they looked about as lush as the amazon in the rainy season. Perhaps the more logical explanation is the post was rotting at the base, or wasn't dug deep enough? Impossible! So I would expect a cheap builder-defined material fence to last about 5 years. This fence lasted under a year, AND the warranty claim was declined to boot. I can't speak to Austex's build quality on a beautiful metal or great material wooden fence. But I can speak to perhaps what you might experience when you attempt to make a warranty claim and experience their best customer service: going out of their way to deny a warranty claim in every way possible.

When I purchased my home, it came with a fence built by Austex. A warranty was included with the fence, which was really nice. Several weeks ago, I noticed that several slats were coming loose on my fence; no big deal, right? I contacted the proper people to get the fence fixed, and an appointment was scheduled to fix the fence. Unfortunately, I've come across an issue that was mentioned by several other reviewers here regarding the warranty. Two or three days after setting up the appointment to fix my fence, I noticed that a fence post, right where the fence slats were coming loose, had become bowed (please see the attached image). When I brought this to Austex's attention, I was told that the post is not covered under warranty and that it would cost $175 to replace. When I asked why the post was not covered under the warranty when the fence is less than a year old, I was told that this is because that posts typically bow and shift due to the weather and temperature changes. To be fair, this is a valid point (items such as wood are bound to shift and move around due to the temperature and sun), but when a post becomes this warped before the fence is even a year old, it is an indication to me that the said post may be defective. I find it rather strange that the fence posts are not at least partially covered under warranty. There are times, after all, that items can be defective or damaged. Personally, I believe that a fence should last for longer than a year before I have to start replacing posts and slats. Especially considering how much money it takes to have a fence installed nowadays. To me, a sign of an outstanding company is when it's willing I to stand behind its products and workmanship; in this instance, unfortunately, Austex has failed to do this in my opinion. When an item as costly as a fence fails like this before it's even a year old, and the weather has not been incredibly severe (incredibly hot or cold) this summer and winter, it should be fixed free of charge in my opinion. In order to avoid seeming like I'm overly bashing Austex, which isn't my intention, here are some of the good points: The fence itself seems to be decently made Customer service is alright, but I really had to stay on top of them when I was trying to coordinate the repair to my fence. They were super responsive to my initial warranty request. For the above discussed issues, I have to give this company 2 stars. The above mentioned good points save Austex from getting one star, but not by much. When a product is potentially defective and is still under warranty, the right thing to do is to either fix or replace the item. At this point, I honestly cannot recommend Austex to friends, family, or folks on Yelp.

Here's the gist of what I learned: about half of the contractors are honest.. they make the process fun and are a real pleasure to deal with; the other half are dishonest... they string you along, make the process a hassle, and are a real pain. Chris (the owner) and his team are a shining example of what great contractors SHOULD be. For starters, Chris is an extremely kind and responsive person. From my first phone call with him (he showed up the same-day, on a SUNDAY) to my projects completion day.. he always responded quickly, was extremely polite, and very thorough. (He never gives you those weak 2-word text responses like lesser contractors). Chris helped me design my deck and pick out the best materials for my needs. He used a 3D rendering software that shows you exactly how your deck is going to look in your backyard. It was actually really cool, and helped me make some tweaks to the design before starting construction. After signing my contract, his crew showed up the very next morning. These guys were absolute studs. They worked their butts off from 8am - 6pm every day until the job was complete... wow! Many days I work from home, so I was able to watch them. They didn't rush their work, they were very calculated and meticulous about doing the job the right way (a marathon not a sprint mentality). This doesn't mean they're slow, it means they care about the details and doing things right. His crew also isn't a bunch of 20 year old rookies playing on their phones either. These guys all look to be in their mid 30's and early 40's. Men with lots of experience.. they have families to feed, work extremely hard, and know what they're doing. The craftsmanship was phenomenal. The engineering very structurally sound. The design is beautiful and actually has my neighbors giving compliments. Anytime there was an issue during the project (and there weren't many), Chris and his crew fixed it immediately like it was no problem at all. Easy peasy. Chris did what he said he was going to do, when he said he was going to do it, and charged me what he said he was going to charge. Actually.. he went above and beyond what he said he was going to do, he made improvements to the project beyond what was promised, and even gave me a discount at the very end because of a few minor details.. which he didn't have to do. I didn't complain and I didn't request a discount...that's just the kind of guy he is. Incredible. I'm going to mention one last thing I was going to leave out but I think it's important. Every morning before work began, Chris gathers his crew and they do a group prayer together. They ask each other what's going on in their personal lives, and what they can pray for each other about. Then they read a short scripture out loud together, and they start their day. Unbelievably cool. Why do they call themselves Sasquatch? Because these guys are freaking beasts. This is one of those rare experiences where I had a feeling it was going to go well, and it turned out even better than I had imagined. There's a reason why they have so many 5 star reviews. If you're looking to have a deck built in Austin I'm going to help you... skip the weak fluff and go with Sasquatch.
