Italian Beef with red sauce & mozzarella - A pizza slice with meat, melted cheese, and tomato sauce is shown in a close-up view, with a blurred background.

This is supposed to be an Italian Beef with red sauce & mozzarella. After having to return to this location to get the corrected sandwich because the first one was just some dry beef laying in a bun. This was about a third of the sandwich that was left. It had maybe one good slice of beef remaining. No cheese in sight. Almost $11.00 for this??? I have lived in this area my whole life & gone to this location( Crete, Il) for decades. What a big disappointment. We're trying to do our part by supporting local businesses but our hard earned money deserves mutual respect. We'll probably still give them our business but our visits will probably be fewer & farther between. Perhaps some retraining is needed. Papa Joe would not be happy.

Order pizza from Aurelio's (Chicago Heights) at 8PM. 8:45, the pizza came. Opened the box and the whole pizza was burnt. Call right away and are told they will send another right away! My son asked over and over again where the pizza is. I promise him one is coming. Hour passes, nothing. Drive there to find they are closed...

Famous for their thin crust Chicago-style tavern-style pizza (always cut in squares), this location…read moreof Aurelio's Pizza in Homewood is the oldest, located in the same city as the original. I had not heard about it until it made it to the national conscience when a native Chicagoan became the Pope, and his favorite pizzeria was identified as Aurelio's. So on a short visit to Chicago, my wife and I (along with her mom and aunt) made the longer trek to this location (even though there were many locations closer), and was really glad we did. Founded in 1959, it was the first Chicago pizzeria to franchise, with now 34 locations across the country (20 in IL, 11 in IN, 2 in FL, 1 in NV). This location is the oldest, and (thinking) the largest, with two stories of seating, and many separate rooms. They will seat you, keeping large sections empty during less crowded lunch time. There is a section where the current pontiff liked to sit during his visits back to his hometown, and one is allowed to take pictures, which we did gladly. The menu can vary amongst the locations, and this one does not have baked clams as I was hoping. So got a order of Bosco Sticks ($10 for 4), reminded me of Olive Garden breadsticks stuffed with a bit of mozzarella. The pizza sauce for dipping was good. Hot tea was ordered for the seniors ($3 each). There is a decent selection of draft beers, so got a pint of Blue Moon ($6.50) and Aurelio's Batch 59 ($6.50). The latter is hoppy, and I appreciated the very reasonable prices. As for the pizza, I really, really wanted it to be the best Chicago-style pizza I've ever had. Unfortunately, It wasn't: which everyone at the table (probably 150 years total of living in Chicago eating hundreds of pizzas) agreed with. The large 15" pizza ($29 for 2 toppings: toppings were fine (pepperoni and pineapple 1/2 with sausage [no fennel] and hot giardiniera 1/2), with plenty of cheese spread to the very end of the crust. The cheese had been beautifully browned. We had asked for it to be cooked in the 'old oven' (that request was even marked on the receipt). But the crust was a bit too thick and fluffy, and just wasn't as good as a lot of tavern style pizzas I've had (as an example, I much prefer the pizza from Rosati's, a chain that has even more locations, and each Chicago suburb town has their own local favorite as well: e.g. Quonset Pizza in Waukegan). So looks like this is really a South-side favorite. As for the service, the sitting hostess wasn't the friendliest, but Alyssa (our server) was great throughout: very friendly answering our questions and making sure we were doing OK. I ended up buying a t-shirt from the front counter (Pope Leo XIV: Poperoni (trademarked) Peace, Love, Aurelio's) for $25. Payment is made at the table, and they do have a 3% surcharge for credit card payment.

I ordered my items online to get a better deal. The pizza had good flavor, the dough was thin, but in my opinion if you don't eat it fresh out the box from when you first get it, the crust will be a little tough. The customer service that I received from the young lady was nice and polite. As far as the sanitation goes, it wasn't good. When I went in to wait and add more items to my order. I seen employees not using gloves and no hair nets, especially the employees with long /extra long hair. If this restaurant make small improvements they would be better then what they are now. I recommend others to explore their options if they don't want to get sick from cross contamination.

They said no, but they could remake my pizza if I waited. I decided to take my pizza as-is as I was already running late. About an hour later I received a text from 708-554-9937 telling me I need to check myself next time before complaining about my order. They proceeded to text me for an additional 2 hours complaining and harassing me because I told them that my order was wrong. I don't know what kind of business this is, but I've never heard of employees looking up customers numbers and crashing out via text. Do better!
