To me getting anything done with my hair is worse than going to the dentist! As a kid my hair was always butchered (I guess there wasn't as much experience with cutting naturally curly frizzy hair). Well I was nervous going to a new establishment but am VERY pleased with the results. It all started with a Groupon for Keritan treatment. I had made my appointment in Long Beach for 10/31, two weeks before a business trip to Florida thinking that my hair will be in good shape for the trip. Well, Sandy happened and therefore my appointment did not. I called and they told me not to worry - the Groupon would be honored in Bellmore and did I want to come in? At that point, I was so emotional that I just postponed it. I also live in Long Beach and doing something so good for myself, felt wrong and I had to deal with my own home. Finally, after several reminders to "go use your Groupons" I called and made the appointment. Immediately they suggested a cut first then the treatment. I said sure, because I hadn't done that, either, in a long time. I arrived a bit early but was immediately welcomed. I was introduced to the experienced stylist who presented herself well and was very professional; upon a few minutes of conversation I knew that she knew hair, was skilled in it and knew my hair. The cut and Keritan took just 2 hours and the time flew (I am not a patient person who takes time for myself). I immediately loved the cut. Irene (the stylist) invited me back whenever I wanted to show me some tricks of styling if I wanted. We spoke about color and although I was coloring my own for several months, she did not look down at what I did at all...she said I did a good job and made suggestions as to what she would do...I immediately booked my color appointment! Two days later - I was so pleased with the quick dry and the "style ability" of my hair when I did it myself! Everything Irene told me and instructed was true and easy to do. During the treatment part of the appointment she suggested that I purchase a special shampoo; typically I say no, but after investing in the keratin I knew I would purchase it but didn't say anything. She did not push it on me which I LOVED so I told her that I would be purchasing it. Overall this was a great experience. I will be recommending them to friends looking for a professional, "no airs" environment that makes you feel welcome. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that they don't accept credit and forgot to tell me that! Luckily I was able to cover the service and purchase without having to find an ATM. Just got back from a single process, wash, cut and blow by Alex, and I am in love with my hair! I've known Alex for years and always went to him for a style of curls with my extensions, but nothing else. I was in desperate need of some help with my hair and knew Alex was the right one to go to and I was right..I wish I went to him sooner! He made my hair an even and beautiful brown and gave me a much needed, flawless hair cut. He is honest, skilled and provides options and ideas! I had purchased a groupon for a keratin treatment for this salon and I was hesitant to try somewhere new because I've had so many bad experiences with keratin treatments. This place felt very homey and warm. Alex did my hair and he did an excellent job, I washed my hair tonight after the few days he recommended and I am beyond pleased with the results, no more frizz! Im sending both of my daughters to Aura and I would reccomend them to anyone looking for a new salon. First time haircut and color done by Chris this past Sunday. What a nice job! He listened to everything I had to say and did exactly as I asked. My hair feels great. The color product used was not harsh and quite restorative. I have very coarse, thick, dry hair and was quite happy with the result! I will surely be returning. I bought a Groupon for a single process color, cut, and blow out. I couldn't be happier! The staff were friendly, and I felt like a Queen. The owner, Chris, cut and colored my hair. A young girl blew out my hair and did a fabulous job! The woman who washed my hair, Lauren, was professional and polite. This salon is filled with talent. Just had Alex style my daughters hair for her sweet sixteen (he even opened the shop early to accommodate us on a Sunday morning) and it was gorgeous!!
