LOVE THIS PLACE! Bought a groupon for cut, conditioning treatment and blow out and I'm so glad that I did. I've been contemplating cutting my hair short for a while and really wanted a new look- Christina was AWESOME. She spoke with me about it first and made sure that I was comfortable with the length before she snipped anything off. We had great conversation the whole time, laughs and all. Bought a groupon for partial highlights and a cut. I told the hairdresser I wanted peak-a-boo highlights, NOT starting at the top of my scalp... What does she do? Starts them at my scalp. Doesn't look terrible, but not the look I was going for... Also annoyed because I walked out paying more then double my groupon price and they didn't tell me it would be extra until I checked out. Felt like they were judging me because I had a groupon in the first place. Common sense...If you don't want customers coming in with a groupon, don't offer them!!! Won't be going back... read more

Bought a groupon in the hopes that all the reviews I found were correct and this place would be great, then I sat down in the chair. The woman who did my hair (partial highlight, wash, cut, and blow dry) made it very uncomfortable, there was clearly tension between her and other workers at the salon. The highlights came out average, not really placed well, the cut was nothing special, and let's say the blow out let's me unable to even run my hands through my hair! I have NEVER been so disappointed with a blow out in my life! I had to go home, deep condition, and re-do my hair. What a waste of my time and money. I will NEVER go back here!!!! read more

Whenever some of the girls have shampooed and brushed out my hair, they were never gentle- always felt as though they were rippling out my scalp. I can only speak for the blowouts, I got 2 so far and they were both done very well- the guy (I believe his name is Alex) is very sweet and did a great job. read more

Went in with a groupon hoping for the best. Inside it's very relaxed, neat, and clean. Before cutting my hair Alex asked what I was looking to do and gave me his opinion ( which I definitely needed). After my consult Alex cut my hair and told me how to blow dry it so it would look as nice as he got it to look. There aren't many hair stylists that would take that kind of time. I think the previous reviews speak for themselves but I just wanted to reiterate how amazing my experience was at this salon yesterday. I luckily stumbled upon the Groupon deal looking for a last minute appointment before I went on vacation (my usual salon was booked). They accommodated me for the next day and the rest is history! I was greeted by Chris who was warm, friendly and executed all my needs. You can tell he takes pride in his business and actually truly cares about his customers which is something I don't find often in salons. The salon is beautifully decorated in a regal, eclectic vintage vibe. I was digging it! It was super clean, everyone who worked there was friendly towards each other and I saw several customer who were very happy with their results during my appointment. All around good vibes. Everyone who worked there was so nice as soon as I walked in the door and they made me feel comfortable. I had Alex cut, color and style my hair and I can not say enough good things about him. He spent time consulting with me to see what look I was trying to achieve. He is a master stylist and colorist. I used a trusted Aura for many years spending thousands of dollars there until I got my permanent make up done there. It cost me 1100. Dollars to do my eyes and eyebrows there. Aurora who applied this so called permanent make up said she was putting it on lite to begin with and if I wanted it darker come back in a few months at no charge and 4 months later I did. While waiting to be seen Chris the owner informed me that there would be a 600. Charge to make it darker. I just broke down and cried u could hardly see this make up. He refused to do it for nothing . Within one year this make up was gone and I went to several salons in the area who said they must have used bad ink. If you have ever had this done you know it is a long process and painful I would not recommend going to Aura. Wait until u have a problem with them all their smiles and friendliness goes away read more

There are dozens of salons in the area where Aura is....and I have been to a handful of them in search of a new salon that is not uptight or pretentious, and a place who does an amazing job. I have finally found that place and person and it is Alex from Aura! I tried cheaping out a few times and got my color done at another less expensive salon and after a few botch jobs then a few botch jobs to try to correct it I said to myself "why am I bothering, why didn't I just have Alex do it all along?" Let's talk about Alex. He is incredibly patient, super knowledgable and incredibly skilled at cuts, color and blowouts. I left the salon last weekend feeling perfect! My color is corrected and looks amazing, my cut suits my hair style (even though we playfully argued about how much to cut) and my superior blowout lasted forever! I absolutely love my hair again! So I thought this was it, that I found a new salon that I had hoped for. But I was wrong. I got there at 12:20 for my 12:30 apt with Maria and was finally taken at 1:05 but I remained optimistic and decided it would be worth the wait. The color came out great but the cut and style were not anything I wanted. So yet again my hair ends up shorter and the style just wasn't there. I asked her to blow it out straight but there again I leave with puffy hair so that I had to go home and hot iron it. On July 17, 2014 I visited your salon to get my haircut. I was styled by Nicole. I am extremely unhappy with her haircut. I asked Nicole for a haircut that would stack my hair in the back and leave the sides long; I was looking for an exaggerated bob. Long story short she went beyond just stacking the back and did the side also. I was clearly upset and although she offered an apology, she also blamed her misunderstanding on my " poor explanation ". She made it clear that I should of never used the word stacked and that it was my fault she chopped my hair off, instead I should of just explained that I wanted a bob. I am pretty upset over the hair cut. It is very choppy on one side. It does not blend in or feather like I requested and thought it would. I did not let her ruin the other side of my head and told her to leave it long. As you can imagine now my cut is very uneven. It is even worse since I left the salon with the humidity; I am unable to style it so I look like a have a mushroom head since it poufs at the top with the layers. Not to mention that I am a pretty easy going person and I felt as though I was pulling teeth to have a conversation with her as I was nervous to get a hair cut by someone new. My hair was a mess from a semi permanent dye that I got elsewhere months ago and I wanted it gone! Alex convinced me to dye my hair back to my natural color, which he matched up at the salon. He also made me hair ombre but extremely natural looking and to finish it off gave me an amazing haircut. I loved my new look, but it felt so much better that I received so many compliments on it. From the minute I first walked into Aura salon, I knew there was something very special about this place. I had gone there for the first time after purchasing a Groupon for three blowouts. I was immediately greeted by a warm welcome from the front desk staff, and before I had even sat down on the plush velvet couches I was already offered a cappuccino. The decor at Aura is just so elegant and tastefully designed. There's something very warm, inviting, and soothing about the way Aura is decorated combined with the fabulous pampering you recieve there. From the mahogany, Vintage styling tables, to the eclectic fringe lampshades that hang from the various lighting fixtures, It is just a beautiful salon that makes you feel like you are in a very upscale setting without any upscale attitude. Every last stylist is friendly and complementary. There is no rushing through the hair washing, rather they make sure you are extremely relaxed and massage your scalp so well I have nearly fallen asleep. I was lucky enough to have been given an appointment with their stylist Irene. Irene is always so friendly, so lovely, and makes me feel incredibly comfortable. Every blowout was drop dead gorgeous and I left each time feeling so glamorous! Without being pushy at all, Irene asked me if she could ever cut my hair and give me a new look. I explained that I'm one of those people who have been with the same hairdresser for most of my life and am very afraid of change. Well, today I made the best decision I've made in a long time . When they say change is good sometimes, it's so true! Irene took my long, straight, one length hair and turned it into a modern, current, gorgeous, updated style with long beautiful layers. I cannot say enough about Aura Salon and especially about Irene who is incredibly talented and has years of experience working in upscale Manhattan salons and boy does it show when she cuts and styles hair. Made an appt with Alex. Explained everything go he was going to do because I wanted highlights and a different haircut. He knew what he was talking about !!! The place was nice and clean and loved everything about it. My hair turned out fantastic and everyone loves it. The assistant Gabby was fantastic too. chris was very unprofessional. i have been going to this salon for the past 4 years (using alex who is very good). i always had a pleasant experience there until last week, i went in for a blow-out, alex was not available, and chris confused me for a customer who had wrote a bad review about him the year before. i tried telling him it was not me and someone else, but he did not believe me, and turned his services down. i couldnt believe i was treated this way being a consistant customer for the past 4 years. very unprofessional on chris' part. sad part is, i pride myself in not being a cheap tipper. 100 stars for alex........0 stars for chris. read more

I had my hair cut and colored at Aura at the end of July. It was a horrible experience. First, it was the worst single process I ever had. I was just going for brown which shouldn't be difficult but apparently it was. I ended up with orange roots and my hair was very dry! I had the color fixed twice since then. Second, I asked for long layers. She kept them long in the front but in the back made them very short and choppy. I hated it! It's been almost three months and it is just starting to grow out. This experience was very upsetting. My advice: Run far, far away from Aura! read more

Chris does the best hair color I've ever had and I've been to countless colorists in the 25 years I've been getting highlights and lowlights. My theory on color is that it can always be adjusted; technique is something the colorist either has or doesn't and Chris has it. I also like the other staff members and the rapport between everyone, which speaks volumes about management. Excellent salon (and I don't find the prices outrageous either). read more
