No water cooler discussions, no best "work" friends, no office gossip, no paper airplane contests. I recently discovered Resource Suites and it's now my "office" when I feel like pretending I have a 9 to 5 job. Located on the third floor of the Landmark Waikiki building, Resource Suites is a hybrid office built for entrepreneurs, start-ups and people like me who work in their pajamas. You can rent a furnished office space or just work out of the general work space and get your mail sent there. No more PO Box for me! I usually set-up in the cubicle side with my laptop and get an amazing amount of work done during the days that I choose to be there. The problem sometimes with working out of your home is that you often have the distractions of your personal life around you such as laundry, dishes, TV, random food, etc. When you work out of a virtual office such as this you can just concentrate on the tasks at hand. The office is pretty swanky, air conditioned and has a very professional appearance. There's a receptionist to greet anyone who comes to have a meeting with you and a conference room is available as well. They've got everything you need to run your business (printers, binding machines, Wi-Fi) and you can even hire in-house secretarial help. I'm going to get all my Yelp packages sent there because I am tired of missing the UPS/FedEx guy and being forced to drive out to the airport! I think that Resource Suites represents how technology is changing where and how we work. No longer do you have to be chained to a desk but if you choose to do it for productivity's sake then this is a place for you!

There were a few of those in this magical little shop but they were not exactly what I was looking for, but this was a good start. There were a lot of Boho-marries-Island-Style feels in this store: predominantly wood, textiles printed with block printed papayas, tropical printed pillows, clothing (men's aloha shirts too), artisan jewelry, body products, sheets, wooden curios, bags and much more. They also offer workshops for block printing and indigo dyeing. In fact a lot (or all?) of the products in the store are block-printed by hand. There's free parking right in front of the store. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and there a lot of parking stalls, could be different on the weekend.

Also there is The Skin Institute with students ready to provide a consultation on your skin condition and products they'd recommend to treat it. I had a delightful student Esthetician named Sstarr and went over my skin which I assumed and the course of products she recommend, along with a coupon for 10% off facial is a great start to a glowing complexion. I did find a shirt but wasn't really looking for a swap like so many here were delightfully enthusiastic just to see it going somewhere that will be loved and appreciated than the trash or lost in the donation bin, which isn't where what's left is going to a non-profit...fabulous! Once the swap was basically done I did get to browse around the area which looked like a fun lofty vibe with different pods and seating area and kitchen is super cute! A free pop-up movie in Honolulu...at Impact Hub!…read more Amy found a free movie through Eventbrite and I was so excited to go! I've always wanted to see "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" and this was it! Yay! Thanks, Amy! I actually parked for free right across the street at Whole Foods. Impact Hub does have it's own parking lot, and you can get validation. Inside, the workspace (available for rent) is clean, colorful, and spacious. There are restrooms, showers, telephone booths, desks, chairs, tables, a kitchen with microwave, and a plain white wall for projections... This is where we gathered and watched the story of Fred Rogers of the television show, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood". This venue was perfect for a casual get together. Tonight's event was sponsored by PBS. There was a good variety of snacks - and water was available in reusable cups. Afterwards, I realized that I had been here before. My friend's wife graduated from esthetician school at this place! Wow...it's a versatile space!

A place to park to visit Cafe VNTG a place filled with various home furnishings and vintage consignment items that's like browsing in a museum with various items so nostalgic and beautiful and it's so easy to see why many come here to check them out. Parking is up on the top floor and entrance is on Kawaiahao Street up the spiral driveway and with elevator it's an easy access which does make coming here easy just be mindful of which stall to park as it's all reserved for specific businesses. In addition, she arranged to have it "restored". It's great, I just dropped it off, she arranged with the restorer to have it picked up, worked on, and returned to her studio. She then matted and framed it and called me to pick it up. A few months later I took in two more prints that needed work. Both were Japanese calligraphys. They also had foxing due to moisture and humidity here in Hawaii. Again she took care of it all. She called the restorer, he pick them up, worked on them, then took them back to her gallery. Noelani matted and framed them. I can't be happier. Noelani takes the time to explain all the alternatives regarding the matting as well as the glass and works with you to make sure you get what you want within your budget

Congratulations Hawaii Juice Garden!…read more Celebrating their second anniversary Angie of Hawaii Juice Garden has selected Treehouse Coworking as it's venue for it's gathering after finding this gem catering another for party which was held here. With many areas that you're able to do various works the one that did capture all of our attention is the area in the back which is a full sized gathering area with a kitchen including a full sized refrigerator, kitchen island surrounding a sink with seating, a nook seating and yes a bathroom as well. The connecting outdoor area is the real selling point in my opinion which is quite huge lined with artificial grass and a few fun outdoor chairs makes is a great photo op and a space to just escape. This Kahala location is conveniently located right across Kahala Mall though the parking situation is tight as it does share space with other tenants with only about a dozen stall isn't very much though there are a few street parking nearby but when you're expecting a crowd but a great place to for a group or just yourself to get things done and that's what Angie did...congratulations! No- I don't have a business. I don't own a business. My dad had a family hobby business for us 25 years ago but stopped. I am an educator by trade and education. If you are going to look for doing business though here in Hawaii- looking in research books at the University of Hawaii is no longer the only option for you. The Manoa Innovation Center seems to have gotten some seed grant money to make a space available for those that are looking to becoming big big big entrepreneurs. DevLeague seems to have a large enough space for tech students to go a non-traditional schooling route to bypass a university degree and go straight into coding. I found this Manoa Innovation Center because they held a Hackathon. Some very helpful people have suggested that I step out of my comfort zone and join different events to talk to people outside of my expertise. So go to a Hackathon. Manoa Innovation Center seems to be doing well in the new area of 'shared space.' There are a few of these different kind of spaces popping up like Box Jelly, ProtoHub, or Agora. Manoa Innovation Center is more on the tech side - think more coding/ 3d printing/ tech space instead of open floor space. People there are smart in their fields. I am glad I went to my first event - out of the box has a whole new meaning for me now- and I'm a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer - been around the world and I thought I had seem most of it all.
