Its unfortunate that they will be movie but hey you need to get out and enjoy a game at lake olmstead while you can. 9 bucks for a cheap seat and you still get a great view of the field. Depending on the night they are generally running some sort of special. Get out and watch some live baseball. you cant beat it

Home Game. Sunday is Jr Greenjackets night.

I think they could include the crowd more with on field things in between innings but the stadium was really nice.

HOTS was well ran, with plenty of porter potties for both athletes and spectators. As for parking, I do recommend arriving early, since you may have to park far down on the grass. There was also a good amount of green space to set up a tent for our club and plenty of rowing and food vendors to browse and purchase from. A cool fact, the Savannah River they row on is Georgia on one side, where the club is located, and South Carolina on the opposite bank.

I went to check out this place with minimal rowing experience (aka Boy Scout camp and what I've…read moreseen on television). I was ready to be intimidated, but thankfully the exact opposite happened. It is off 5th Street, but you have to go back a little ways to get to the actual location. The building is deceiving in size, as you will find out soon enough. In the bottom are where the different sized row boats are stored. As a member, this is where you get to store your boat and oars. Then there is a gym and row machine. The gym area looks out over Savannah River, which is a beautiful view. The row machine is great for teaching one how to learn to row in sync (I soon learned I needed more practice in that area). You have a second floor where there is a dining area (available for rental by Club members) looking over the river and a balcony. The point person walked me through not only the location, but the overall experience rowing. It was also interesting to learn that the 1996 US Olympic Row Team trained here. My lack of knowledge in this area was not held against me and I hope to join in the new year. *Insider's Tip -If you are new to the world of rowing, go to a intro day. They do them once or twice a year and it is a great first step into this. -Also, once you pass a certain level of training you can come on your own whenever you want. That's any day and any time. I like that.

Sometimes, like people, it is the places right in front of us that we often overlook. For me, it…read morewas a city park just two blocks away. Granted I moved right as the first lockdown occurred and society was cautious concerning human interaction, but I should have taken advantage of this resource sooner. I will start by clarifying that the community center attached to the Park has not been open since at least 2020. I was told by one commissioner that it is unable to be reopened until structural repairs are made to the building. This, much to the dismay of my neighborhood, includes the adjoining swimming pool. But hopefully that will all be taken care of soon. Also, the children's area is not particularly where I find myself enjoying time here. Instead, the baseball field, walking track, and basketball court are where I have recently found respite. The baseball field is mostly grass at this point so it serves as a almost completely secure space for my three dogs to run around. I know that's not the original purpose, but for now that is how I use it. The walking track is not quite a quarter mile, but close enough that 5 laps will get you there. I am sure parents/guardians appreciate that it encompasses the playground so they can watch their children play while getting in some exercise. I prefer mornings if I am putting in a few laps, due to the quiet and the lower temperature. The basketball court is technically four, all parallel. This provides an adequate number of hoops for those who want a full game and those who just want to work on their free throw. As for me, it serves as a spot to work on my three pointer (ugly, but effective). I have yet to use the pavilion, which is covered and has two grills with tables and benches, but the next time I plan a larger gathering of friends that will be the spot. Parking is ample and the Parks & Rec Department does a great job keeping the area clean and mowed. Also, it is only three blocks from downtown! So if you are ever in the area, stop by and unwind. That's what it's for.
