I have been a patient of Dr. Piper's for approximately 5 years now. He is a wonderful psychiatrist. For years before I was going to counseling and learning nothing new. Dr. Piper sincerely cares about his patients. He has helped me so much throughout these past years. He is a brilliant man with a very impressive background regarding his education. He volunteers a great deal of time studying and publishing statistics related to domestic violence. He helps many people struggling with opiate addictions as well, now through a Clinic "Vital Changes". He is definitely not one to brag. I wouldn't be aware of his dedication to help others in these ways and so much more if not for Ellie, his office manager. For the past few years now I have had to deal with situations that are unimaginable. I owe my life to Dr. Piper. If it weren't for his knowledge, compassion and expertise I don't think I would have made it this far. I have been a patient of his for a long time now. To August Piper's patients who wrote bad reviews show details To August Piper's patients who wrote bad reviews by Former Office Manager on Apr 29th, 2015 As I read these terrible reviews, I must tell you what happened behind the scenes. First of all, I stepped in to help August when his last office manager up and left with no notice because of reasons that are not his fault. What I walked into besides a billing nightmare, were patients who were running out of scripts early (abusing), lying about their identity, people with severe mental disorders who needed his attention, people calling and calling, essentially clogging up the queue of prioritizing who came first and a kind hearted man just trying to help people. People who couldn't pay he never charged (his business is not about making money, it's truly to help people who needed therapy and required medication). I figured out there were a "group". Of people dealing his medications he wrote for them, being sold on the bus, and at a local fast food restaurant. This activity put his business in jeopardy and we had to slow down figure out person by person who was abusing vs needing the medication. Unfortunately that effected the people who really were honest and NEEDED the Meds. People became real pushy with him and at times while I didn't agree with his response, these were people who lied, abused medications and used this man for all they could get. The stories people came up with were insane. I was wanting those people out because if they were seeing any other physician this behavior would not be tolerated and they would be fired as patient immediately. So when I know how much money was coming through the office, it's not for monetary reasons. He may have a different bedside manner with people, but he is a truly genuine, caring, honest and compassionate human being as well as a doctor. And for those that judged me at the time, I had been diagnosed with a neurological disorder which made my speech slur etc.... And, if you saw how many thank you notes, ongoing that came in the mail vs the complaints on here, there's not even comparison, he's done more right for people than wrong and far more than anyone knows. Its a shame to not see that on here, but please don't take these reviews at 100% face value. as both a former patient and former mental health clinician who has worked extensively with a number of psychiatrists in inpatient, outpatient and forensic settings, I know that Dr. Piper is one of the finest psychiatrists I have ever known. His knowledge and clinical skills in psychopharmacology and differential and multiaxial diagnosis are exceptional. Dr. Piper additionally can provide an increasingly rare aspect of psychiatric practice; the adjunct use of psychotherapy, (such as the CBT he cites as his primary modality). This integrative approach to patient care truly enables patients( who are willing to do the work) to achieve goals and have a vastly improved quality of life and daily functioning. He is an independent thinker, erudite and authentic and a truly multifaceted doctor who brings commitment, engagement and mindfulness to his patients. I am very selective about who I would entrust with care of my loved ones. Dr. Piper is at the top of my list. He journeyed with me through a multi-year total meltdown of my life, and it was intense. I have been seeing dr Piper for about 3 years and I can honestly say he is the only Pschiatrist I feel comfortable speaking with in all the time I've been meeting with various ones. With my issues it is hard for me to even get into my social and overall general anxiety/ panic disorders ) and he offers you different techniques & literature etc. to help you deal w/ them. Dr. Piper is an AMAZING Dr. and i just really dont understand the terrible reviews. Unless you are patient that isn't trying to make a positive change and just want to abuse the system, he should have 5 stars across the board. Dr. Piper is a compassionate soul but he doesn't take no BS! And if you are trying to pull one over on him he can see right through that too. Dr. Piper can come off as abrasive to some that can't put themselves in his position. He's been practicing for almost 50 years and has seen a lot of patients throughout the years, and some that try and take advantage of him. He will eventually see thru your bullshit if you try taking advantage of him but I can genuinely tell he cares about his patients well being but can tell if you have a hidden agenda. He has cussed me out a few times only because he truly cares and wants to see me get my life back together. So if you have your feelings hurt easily go somewhere else, but this man genuinely cares and uses profanity to try and light a fire under people's assess to see them get their life back together. He trusts his patients in regards to what meds work and will give you what you tell him has worked in the past until he feels as though you're trying to mistake his kindness for weakness. Just show up on time, follow his suggestions and everything should be fine. Definitely have never met a psychiatrist that asks you what prescriptions worked and which ones you've tried and didn't work. Just respect him, don't try to take advantage of him and you should be happy with his level of trust as to what medications you tell him work for you and which ones don't. read more

If I could give august Piper negative stars I would. I first want to start off by saying I am shocked to see that all the horrible reviews on August Piper have been deleted. I had the most horrific experience seeing him as a patient. My experience sitting in his office was unprofessional from the first minute i sat in his office. I gave him two chances and the second time, he was so unprofessional and so rude to me that I told him i felt i wasn't being listened to. He literally chased me out of his office and said "go on get out of here" no joke. I later told my therapist what happened and she suggested I report him which I still have not done, but seeing that his other reviews have some how vanished, where people were treated the same way I was makes me want to follow up on this. I won't even call him a dr. because honestly i can't see how he is one. What i witnessed sitting in his waiting area too should have been the red flag that I needed to run away. I witnessed him and a patient arguing and it was extremely uncomfortable. I don't recommend him and suggest that if you want your money's worth and to feel like you are a valuable human being then I highly suggest you really do your research when finding a psychiatrist and go with your gut if you are currently a patient and don't doubt your own intuition if you feel like something isn't right. Me and my girlfriend were struggling with our addiction to opiates. We felt as if our world was crashing down and that we would be like this forever. We called over 20 clinics and doctors for help that we needed and could not wait another day for it. Every place had a 6 month waiting list or was full. Until we called august pipers office. Lisa from the front desk answered the phone and could tell we needed help and both her and August piper got us into their office and under their care that same day. He really cared about our well being and saw both me and my girlfriend. He put us on subutex, and our lives changed. He knows we have little money, but by seeing us both he saved our lives. Because of dr. Piper both my girlfriend and I are in school and working and living life the way it should be. He really cares about the well being of his patients. We owe him our lives because when every other treatment center and doctor we called we got pushed away. But both Lisa and August piper said,YES! August has a great sense of humor and Lisa at the front desk is such a loving and caring person. They even have a cute little dog that kept us company while waiting to see the doctor. Not only did he help us with our addiction, but Lisa and August also showed us a network of places to eat free knowing we are poor. Without Lisa and August, I would just be another strung out guy lookin for his next fix. August also is currently helping me with my ADHD and anxiety issues. He is well educated and very understanding. I recommend the team of August piper and Lisa to anyone who has any psychiatric disorder or who is dependent on opiates. This is the worse dr I have ever been to I was diagnosed back in 2000 by 5 different psychiatrist this man sees me for 10 minutes yells at me makes me cry tell me to write why I am diagnosed what I am I am adhd I can't so I wrote two papers he never read them . he yelled at me because they weren't long enough. this man has made me cry twice now wouldn't prescribe me my medicine that I have been on for years they are were addictive he tol me so what why should he care he said i don't see you shaking right now. then he told me I was making him angry . He was skeptical that my chronic PTSD diagnosis was really causing the symptoms I came to him for. "It [the PTSD symptoms] should have faded by now". At times he seemed to imply that my psychiatric symptoms were either fabricated or just character flaws. He took offense when I questioned his perseveration on the minutiae of my morning routine (he asked me four times and I gave him the same answer four times). I informed him that I did not think this would be a productive relationship and got up to leave. He threw my file down on the couch and all but shoved me out the door with some juvenile retort. Emotionally unstable much? As someone with a history of childhood sexual abuse, I was often not believed or the behavior minimized. Its painful - damaging even - to repeat this with a man I came to for help and with whom I shared extremely private information in the interest of transparency. His conduct is unprofessional and his ignorance is stunning. I am glad others had a more positive experience. Its very hard to reconcile the man in the five star reviews with the man I met this afternoon. read more
