I am surprised that this place is actually that nice inside. I know you are probably questioning what do I mean? Well, I have heard about this place and that they sell records and CDs and etc. I have never went inside. I decided to go in and see for myself. Outside looks like one of those old ghetto shops on Commercial Drive that looks like they have been here forever. Yeah maybe they have been here forever. I mean at least 20 years. Or even more. Inside was very well organized and bright. They have some pretty cool records for sale. Unfortunately, I am not one of those music advocate/ artist. I mean I do understand the music quality is better on records. To me I would not care much if I listened music on a CD or radio or ipad or ipod vs the highend record player. I'm from Seattle and did some record shopping while in Vancouver. Picked up a couple of used albums and paid $9.99 for one and $14.99 for the other. Both in VG+ condition, so, good prices as both of these records would have been more in Seattle even in USD. Staff was friendly and helpful and the store was organized pretty well. Ordered a record online, and the shop oversold. Turns out that managing online inventory is not one of their strong points. So they automatically put my purchase on a back order and emailed to let me know I'd get the record when they receive more stock. That doesn't work for me. The item was listed as "in stock" when I made the purchase. So I had them cancel and issue a refund. Should have been the end of the story, right? Well, not with the staff working at this spot -- they like to talk shit to their customers. Via email, I made it known that they should do a better job of counting inventory and maintaining the back end of their e-commerce platform to avoid these situations in the future. And that's when the emails got a bit testy back and forth, starting with someone from the shop emailing to tell me "thanks for the hot tips" after I recommended they do better in the future. As a customer that's what you want in a record store -- for them to screw up a purchase, put you on auto back order without asking your preference and then get sarcastic via email when the customer expresses displeasure. When I prodded again on the topic of doing better with online inventory, the same employee responded: "Yo man, we reissued you a refund immediately upon request. Didn't need anymore follow up on your end." I assume addressing customers as "Yo, man" is par for the course at this shop. Thing is, that refund was going to be automatic. As a store, they were unable to fulfill my order as it was presented when I made the purchase. And that means they were obligated to give my money back. To email a customer and act like the refund would have been anything but automatic is ridiculous. I also made that point clear via email, to which the employee responded with one word in all caps: "BYEEEEEE." The next response from the employee again starts by addressing the customer with a "Yo." "Yo. You win! Ok? You. Win. Please stop." I eventually had to email asking why they continue to message in a manner that is clearly meant to provoke the customer while asking me to stop with the emails. The back and forth game of online tag finally came to an end. But not before it was clear to me that this shop has a special kind of disregard for its customers. And again, this all started because the shop is defunct when it comes to maintaining proper inventory count for its online merchandise. Maybe they should learn how to count and maintain an e-commerce platform before firing off hot take emails to customers. read more

Prices have increased a lot in the last few months. Prices use to be comparable to Red Cat but find that prices are a bit more now. Not sure I would want to purchase unless it's during their sale in July or December. read more

Another great music store in Vancouver! One of my favourite past times is to rummage through music and rediscover bands I thought I had forgotten about. After losing my entire CD collection not long enough ago, I regret that I haven't had the heart to purchase Cd's for fear that I will eventually have to live through this tremendous loss again...but purchasing used Cd's helps to alleviate the pain and realize that someone else's trash might just be your treasure. Heck, they could even be MY Cd's...! The store carries a blissfully organized selection of used, guaranteed Cd's at decent prices as well as a diverse and awesome collection of vinyl records. I don't DJ but I am tempted to go back a generation or two and buy a record player just for the sake of it! They lack eight track cassettes, but every other type of recording is available at this locally owned music shop, with every genre from classical to classic rock. There are also a ton of rare b-side recordings that you've never heard of, and that mostly weren't originally released because they suck. But prices are very good considering the rarity of some of the finds, and the store is actually very friendly and well organized. The large man behind the counter is remnicent of the stereotypical comic book shop owner, but his vast and extensive knowledge of music will often find him chatting up hot middle aged women about the epilogue of one hit wonders like Sweet. If you still have a working needle, or are just looking to decorate your walls with that Rolling Stones album cover by Andy Warhol with the shot of Mick Jagger's crotch and the zipper that actually comes undone, this is your best bet. Especially since the only vinyl left at garage sales are Barry Manilow, Barbara Streisand, and several copies of "Crime of the Century" by Supertramp. read more

Im always a little disappointed when a customer is not greeted or is told " if you need any help, just let us know ". This was the case here. Found an greatest hits of Al green ($13), beatles red ($10) and blue ($15) album and a couple of hall and oats. All decently priced and all in great condition. I have been shopping for vinyl here for over 15 years. Overall, I find the prices are a little high; the sale has already been priced in. Neptune, on Main Street has better prices, especially on new vinyl. Again, the sale has already been priced in so when it happens they still make money. Overall, the quality of used vinyl is better than anywhere else; so, if you are anal about quality and are willing to pay for it, then this is the place for you. Over the years, I have been taking used vinyl there for trade. I have always been disappointed by the credit I get; believing, naturally, that those items I no longer want are worth more to someone else.. Yesterday I took a box of CDs in for trade. They accepted about 15 CDs and gave me $26 in trade value. I wasn't thrilled. They used to have a much better selection of used vinyl, this is where Neptune has an edge. I believe that fewer people are taking their records here because the trade in value is poor. Although, another reason might me that the general population is becoming better educated about the value of these things and are reluctant to part with them for pennies on the dollar. I will continue to shop here because I can usually find something of interest. for example, I found 2 BB King records totaling about $32. Records, more records on the walls, CDs, new and local content on display, rare items and miscellaneous items in the counter case. They may not always have exactly what I come in for, but it`s excellent for browsing as the selection does change often. This is why I enjoy popping in. A great reason to hit this side of the Drive in tandem with a visit to Prado. Some features: - The 99c bargain records at the front. Great for an odd find or two. - The $2.99 CDs at the front window. I`ve found some decent albums in these bins. Really well organized, clean place but always too loud and the vinyl pricing is the highest you'll find in the city. CDs are way too much and the vinyl is often overvalued & poorly researched. I don't want to feel like the wool is being pulled over my eyes, you know. If it's not a limited edition don't say it is.... Or if a newly remastered version is out on vinyl then pricing on the last edition should reflect that. If I could hear myself think I might stay longer, feel better about paying the asking price, or have a convo about the stock on hand to see if he's flexible. I buy a lot of vinyl and yet always leave here empty handed, knowing I can find what I'm looking for at RedCat, Neptoon, Zulu (also pricey but well cared for) etc or eBay. This is my favorite record store! Its a tiny space packed with vinyls, and good music playing (you can request they play something of yours too). The staff are generally pretty honest about the price and taste of what youre about to pick up. Ive seen some girls get ripped on for buying a used CD of Led Zeppelin's "Coda," which is hilarious because 1) They were SELLING it to her and 2) The album is actually by all means not good. For the record, buying a used CD is always a rip off, so Im not willing to venture in to that territory. Besides, this place is not great for finding any sort of CDs in stock, so remember to purchase a turntable before even bothering to step foot in here. There are two places I check in this store, the New Arrivals, and the discount shelves. Between the two of these places Ive found enough great records to fill up an entire 2 foot shelf! Thats... a lot of vinyl! (I havent counted?) To play backwards, and forwards, and double speed and pretend DJ, even though youll break that flimsy belt drive on the damn turntable. My favourite record store in the city. The staff is unpretentious and friendly (!!!), and they have a surprisingly awesome selection of black metal. They also have a loyalty stamp card. From my experience, they usually hand them out without you having to ask about them, but in case they don't, be sure to ask. read more

A place that still sells records! I know they stopped making those things in the 1980s, so I'm very impressed. Found a rare copy of The Eagles Greatest Hits for $2.99, seems pricey to me but I just love those Eagles. Artists are alphabetized by last name with was very confusing for me. Music is too loud in the store, I think I even heard a swear word. I'll be bringing my mouldy old box of records and DVDs from my basement by to sell, I'm pretty sure I have some expensive super rare Beatles records in there, I bet it will blow their minds! Audiopile is another one of vancouver's great record stores. selection both new and used is probably the best there is in the city. Prices are excellent and the staff is excellent. rare records are usually available here much more so than other stores. in my opinion this is probably because they don't sell online and ship them out-of-country or they don't keep the good stuff for themselves, whatever the reason i really appreciate the unusual selection and the quality that's here. the overall condition of the vinyl is also among the best also. you should always take a look and grade the used albums you're buying but Audiopile is obviously very careful with what they put out on their shelves. i've never been disappointed with an album i bought here after taking it home. this is also a great place to trade and sell used records. they give a very good and honest price right up front both trade and buy. i really appreciate that and frankly they get to buy my records first every time i need to part with some albums (usually to finance buying some more of course). also one of the few stores who buy and sell 45's and they have an excellent selection of this somewhat forgotten medium. read more

It's at a convenient location on commercial drive, however, being 4'11" it's frustrating to browse in the Vinyl section, therefore, I stick to the CD drawers that are just my height and cheaper than other used places which is a plus, if you don't mind music older than 10 years than you can score some childhood favorites for $1-$3 in CD's. They're records are over-priced and I would recommend either going to Neptoon and or ebay. Even their $1 Vinyl's are sometimes too trashed whereas the bargain bin at Neptoon still has awesome records. The space is small and sometimes I question the music that is played in the store, however, due to size, you won't be there for more than an hour. The staff are friendly and love talking about music which is a plus. I also like the fact that they have a punch card system which will get filled by yours truly with CD purchases. read more

I eat vinyl, deliciousvinyl and this place is a buffet. Although it was tough for me to dig (as I'm in a wheelchair), I found the selection wonderful and the staff knowledgable and somewhat reserved (as most record shop heads should be). Quite frankly it was the pricing that kept me as I kept finding gems priced way below what you would find at pretentious zulu(esque) shops. The vinyl, sleeves and shop are all very neat and well organized with a ton of bargain priced 45's. A great place to shop on a rainy day. We'll see if me pulling stacks onto my lap to dig pisses them off enough to give me bonus stamps. read more

Great little record store on Commercial Drive. I've been in here a few times but I've been in a rush and didn't have a chance to look around much. Yesterday I spent some more time there and I was really impressed with the store. They've got a great balance of new and used a good jazz section and some collectible stuff on the walls. The staff were easygoing and really nice. I didn't find everything I was looking for, which is pretty standard when looking through vinyl, but I'll be back soon to search for more stuff. Great selection of records and great store in general,i have been going there regularly for a few years now,but my experience was ruined today,when i went in with my two kids ( 5 and 8 year old) to buy some Beatles records,the historical music with some brutal language in the store was playing really loud,and when i asked to lower the volume down, was basically ignored. I am not judging anyone`s choice of what to listen but really strange choice of music for a public store.Instead of spending some quality time in the store had to run away! Not a good way to treat your customers at all! Would it be wrong to play something neutral for 10 minutes while i was there and make me happy so i can actually enjoy my time in the store and buy some records!? read more

As a collector and ex dealer of music I have found that jeff is the best to deal with in vancouver for vinyl. I have sold him 1000's of titles, I have never seen him turn away a seller, or be rude to a buyer, regardless of your musical preferences. Very fair to deal with and his prices are very decent on a lot of stuff, some a bit high, but hey you have to keep the lights on and the employees paid. I have dealt with all the vancouver stores, and audiopile is the best. I have had many hardcore vinyl collectors tell me the same. I have also spent money in audiopile where as with the other stores I can't bring myself to drop a dime in them, thats what happens after almost 20 years of collecting and dealing in vinyl. It's small and jam packed with records, both old and new. Used albums are really fairly priced and in good condition too. New records are a bit pricey though but their punch card makes up for it. I love their used selection, and there are usually multiple copies stashed beneath the main bins so you can find the best copy.. I was eBaying some used vinyl and soon realized I didn't need to go through the hassle when what I wanted was all here. There's a huge drawer of 45s, and lots of local stuff too, cassettes too. The owner and staff are nice and low key which I like, and the punch card that gives you $10 credit definitely entices me to go back. read more

I have completely ruled out this store because they don't separate titles by genre. I listen primarily to jazz, and when I'm looking for used stuff it is, accordingly, usually jazz. At Audiopile, I have to look through the masses of rock (not that I have the least thing against rock) to find the few jazz gems that might buried in the rough. I did, however, get a killer deal on a mint Ornette Coleman box set some years back, priced so low because evidently the owner had no idea what it was. read more

The people who work there are also really helpful and knowledgeable. This shop is OK. from time tot ime they get really cool records that are priced fairly but just as often there are some things priced waaaay to high (ie. 40 dollars for a 10 dollar annette peacock album). The real goods are in the drawers underneath the racks but those lp's aren;t priced and if Geoff (Jeff?) isn't in then you're shit out of luck. Whereas jeff is friendly and helpful some of his other employees (but not all) tend be a bit stand-offish. The do an amazing sale twice a year and they give punch cards so the more you spend the more free stuff you can get. i like this concept, it keeps me coming back (along with the semi-decent turnoever and prices) read more

Will also give you suggestions on stuff you never would thought about judging from your buys. Super friendly, good tunes and there's a free bin outside. In my humble opinion, Audiopile is the ideal shop in the city for new or used vinyl. They have an excellent selection of music favoring rock, punk, new-wave, indie, jazz, classic among others. The staff is knowledgable, cool, very helpful and also friendly. They also offer an excellent stamp program for return customers. Prices are very reasonable when you consider the quality of the vinyl they offer. Efforts are made to ensure that their used prices reflect the condition of the vinyl and one can easily tell from their stickers what that record might be worth in New / Mint condition and what they are asking based on current condition. It is a fair and straightforward system and you will most likely never be surprised by the condition post-purchase. That said, I have returned LPs with no questions and certainly with no attitude. The staff are open to offers on prices and will give discounts on large purchases but they are also aware of the value of their inventory. Overall, Audiopile is one of my favorite places to hit on a rainy Sunday. Plus, they offer the best vinyl outer-sleeves in the city! read more

I'm so pleased to have found this place. It's in a super convenient spot and easy to access. The space isn't large, but they use it extremely well. They have an array of records to peruse and at decent prices. I was very pleased to have found Haim's album on vinyl here as well as several soundtracks and used goodies such as Herman's Hermits, Music From Woodstock and The Beatles. The organization is a little confusing, but the staff are really helpful. Plus, the punchcard system is very handy. You get a stamp per $10 spent and eventually end up with in store credit. this is a good record store. the staff is not as intimidating as some other places, and they have good prices on the brand new vinyl. i like buying the cheap-bin CDs and the dollar rack records. I think zulu has a better turnover of used stock coming in, and I like lotus land and neptoon too, but i am always glad to recomend audiopile to anyone wanting good records at fair prices. audiopile is great. read more
