Great record shop. Loads of used LPs to sort thru, and plenty of new vinyl to choose from. But honestly, the best part was the staff. Sometimes you go into record shops and the staff is 'too cool' to be friendly. Wish I would have caught the name of the man working;, but he was so great! Super helpful, as well as giving great recommendations for some places in Vancouver to check out - local insight is always appreciated. Will be back next time we are in town! read more

I have been buying used wax since 1968. And, it appears that there is some truth to the observation that most people that frequent used records shoppes are middle aged hipster-doofus. I certainly count myself among them. Indeed, this is what I see most at Audiophile, Red Cat, Vinyl Records, Apollo, Crazy Bob's, Urban Safari, Beat Street, Pinball Alley, Dandelion, Lotusland, Zulu, Freewheelin', and Neptoon Records. The young people hover mostly over the new stock since, this is where the music they understand lives. A shame, really, as there is SO MUCH good material in the used bins; they just have to expend their horizon a little. To find the vinyl I am looking for I must travel extensively. Used titles like Grateful Dead are very rare indeed and Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison are expensive, if you can find them at all. I like this shop and, they have a bathroom! Very important when you need to spend a couple of hours rooting through 1,000s of items. Felix PS - to the guy who complained that the employee at this shop handled records by 'the groves' - Although this seams, at first, to be counter intuitive, they are in the business and should know how to handle these items. Also, you said that the used records are dirty... hmmm... A lot of the used stuff sells for under $7. There are 1,000s of items; how much do you think they would have to pay someone to clean them? You can bet that the price per item would have to double in order to pay for this service. read more

Hands down the nicest record store people I've ever encountered. Nothing like taking home some awesome wax and riffing on local venues, the history of the shop itself and Asian noodles - Peaceful Restaurant didn't disappoint, thanks for the recommendation!! The shop itself has an abundant selection of new titles and a sea of used wax to compliment it. I wasn't looking for cd's or tapes during this visit but if I were they seemed to have plenty on hand as well. Damn good pricing. I can't wait to do a deep dive into the Neptoon imprint that has put out music from Vancouver artists from the past few decades. Can you open a US shop? I've been shopping there for a little over a year, however, never thought about writing a review until now. There are a few reasons which keeps me coming back. 1. There is always something new in the store that makes me interested in coming back for more whether it is new releases, older rare records or stuff dumped in the bargain bin for quick listens. 2. Very friendly and laid back staff making it less intimidating for those that don't know much about music. 3. The prices very, however, very reasonable in comparison to other places on both the rare and bargain bin selections. 4. For the decor reminds me of High Fidelity and very old school mixed with hipster cool (but not the annoying kind). 5. Bands occasionally play there which makes it somewhat of a social hangout. 6. The customers who come in or music fans and open to discussion which makes it a good atmosphere. There are questionable characters that come in, however, even those are fun. 7. It's a good way to blow a paycheck as music is my drug, however, don't go when you're poor and go with the intention and expectation of walking out with a lot of records. read more

This store sucks. The employees are careless assholes with no respect for their customers or their records. The used records are filthy, and the new ones are overpriced. I have watched employees handling records by the grooves - something no fan of vinyl, or competent record store employee, would ever do. I do not recommend this store. I cringe slightly when I think how much cash I'm gonna blow in this store, but the vinyl, oh the vinyl is calling me....... I LOVE this record store. Everything from the teal green building to the babe that works there that looks like Velma from Scooby Doo, with tattoos. GREAT selection of used records as well as a fairly current new section with a good selection of local music like White Lung, Nu Sensae, SSRIS, The Pack A.D etc.....I may have hit them at a good time because I have seen previous comments saying that mostly its all rock and rap, lucky for me I spotted all manner of goodies that spanned a number of different genres. The owner was really nice and even recommended somewhere for us to have brunch. We came back the next day for the (8!!) bands they had playing during the Main Street "Car Free Day" and he recognized us straight away and came over for a chat. Neptoon has to have by far the best selection of music/band posters I have ever seen. Often band posters are just kinda lame, but they have a killer selection of limited prints with really amazing artwork on most. They don't tend to be cheap (some being around the $40 - $50) mark, but they are well worth it for a die-hard fan or as a gift for someone. They also have a fun box full of 50 cent buttons that mostly look like they are from the 80s and made me giggle more than once. I love the space in this record store. Its not a huge building, but the layout is totally conducive to being able to take your time to browse through everything without feeling hurried. I could spend a good few hours here and quite enjoy hanging out. Plus, there are often live bands jamming in the corner, making it even easier for me to while away my afternoon at Neptoon. read more

One of the premier spots in North America for silk screened rock posters (new and vintage). These guys know their music and memorabilia. If you're interested in psychedelic era posters, particularly from Vancouver's Retinal Circus, Rob is the man. Neptoon has a great selection of used records, cds, dvds, cassettes, and a small but very interesting selection of books and oddities. Also check out the frequent in-store events. These guys are very connected to the live music scene in Vancouver, friendly and always willing help you find what you're looking for. read more

This has got to be one of my fav record stores anywhere. So far only Taz in Halifax beats it. ;) The thing I like best about this store is its *huge* selection of (good priced) new records. And their used ones are great too--in good shape and good price. One tip is to pay with cash though, they give you a discount if you use cash. read more

This local music Mecca carries a mindboggling variety of records and used Cds for hours of auditory pleasure. Along with their own Neptoon Records label, the store carries anything you can think of and if they don't, you can always ask the very knowledgeable and seasoned staff to see what they can dig up for you. I am a huge fan of the fantastic selection of music nostalgia in the form of concert posters, handbills and various memorabilia (original 1972 Rolling Stones tour book anyone?). Independent records stores are my kryptonite. Neptoon has a great selection of the type of music I usually look for. Rarities, obscure bands, and limited edition copies of records. I also do appreciate the vast sale section containing records priced mostly between $1 and $5. I've found many records here that are well-played in my collection. This quaint record store could be a lot better with a bit of a re-organization. There are many additional crates of records stacked throughout the store, and the front area contains many titles which are not going to be found unless you get down and go through all of them. I love scouring records for odd finds, but I don't always like to look for individual bands in my wishlist in several sections throughout the store, and then repeating the same search the next visit. I also find many unpriced records which makes shopping a little slower. It's not a huge hassle to have to ask, but sometimes it just goes back in the bin. I'm sure they'd be more than helpful, but this would take the load off of store staff as well. On the other hand, maybe it's all a good problem to have. A toss-up between Neptoon and Beat Street for best record store in Vancouver. One thing to note: Neptoon does a TON for the local music scene. Lots of live bands in their shop, they run a record label, and they organize the biggest record swap in Vancouver. Likely the best bargain section as well. Found some gems in here for $1-$2 that would be $20 at another store. read more

This store has a wide selection of new & used LPs. I found that the new LPS are $2-$5 less than other record shops in Vancouver. Also, they have a much more dense selection of used records than other shops. I just didn't have time to get through all of the sections. I say this is definitely a shop to stop by if you're in the market for LPs. I suppose my suggestion is that sections could be more clearly labeled & they might need more space. read more

I've been shopping at Neptoon ever since I moved to Vancouver and have to say it is the best spot in town. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, the bargain bin is always stocked with great finds at fair prices, and if they don't have something your looking for they will do everything in their power to order it in. I highly recommend checking this place out if your addicted to vinyl's or thinking about starting a collection. But make sure you give yourself an hour to look around because their is a lot to absorb. read more

Neptoon has a huge selection of new and used vinyls, free and monthly music publications, and a very informative staff. Its a great place to catch a free show on occasion, if you can get in the door. They sell local concert tickets without any slapped on fees and theyre willing to put up a poster for your band if you ask them nicely. I only discredit them by a star because of their lack of ecclectic tastes. Ionly discount a star here because most of the shelf space is dominated by rock and rap, but I guess thats what the demand is for after all. They also dont seem to have anything thats impossible to find elsewhere in Vancouver, although Ive dug up a few rare punk and folk re issues for totally reasonable prices. As written though, they are a great place to catch a live act, when you can. read more

Posters. And mostly records: new, used, like new of oldies and the latest. Pretty well-organized and easy to browse through. I could spend a couple hours browsing through this place, especially through the discounted records boxes. Prices for the discounted records go as low as $3 a piece to $10 or $15. New and like new records go for a bit more, but you can still find some classic hits for ~$15. Check it out, especially if you've got a bit of time to casually shuffle through the vinyl. read more

It's hard to imagine that too much choice could be a problem, but that's how I feel when I go into Neptoon Records: overwhelmed by an embarrassment of riches. I haven't really checked out the CD section of this store, but the record collection is extensive and often they'll have just the thing I was hoping for. I also find that the people who work at this laid back store are quite knowledgeable and helpful. I doubt that anyone who enjoys a range of music could ever be disappointed by coming here. read more
