We were very excited to stay here and for our Miami trip in general. We got a late check-in due to a late flight. When we arrived at the hotel to check in, they were dealing with a large group of people, other guests, waiting to check in. This group seemed a little loud and slightly rowdy so maybe that was affecting the mood of the reception clerks. We were very polite so they should've treated us the same way. They weren't rude, but they were extremely unfriendly. This was our first taste of how unfriendly people in Miami are. I don't say this lightly because we come from Southern California and I wouldn't consider people there to be overly friendly. We did just have a trip to Hawaii and did have a layover coming to Miami in Atlanta and those are polite people They are even friendly to a fault.
Back to the hotel review. When we finally got up to our room, we were impressed so far. The hotel seemed clean. The elevators were nice. You could tell it had been recently renovated. Apparently it was a different hotel before and it was freshly rebranded when we got into a room after a long flight, the first thing to do is probably take your shoes off and relax a bit. I do this too, but I also check for those dreaded bugs you may catch in a hotel. You know what I'm talking about. I checked around the room very thoroughly and didn't find any. What I did see was a nicely furnished room. Everything was new. It looked very nice but the more I walked around the more I noticed it had not been properly cleaned. I was stepping on all sorts of debris. Dirt and pieces of food. During my room inspection, I even found dried boogers on the ground. I'm not kidding. I noticed one of the windows had grease prints from somebody's nose and forehead on it. If it hadn't been this late and we hadn't been so tired from the long day of flying, we would've definitely called the front desk about it. We assumed whenever housekeeping did come back they would clean it properly. We were there for a week and it was never vacuumed once. The debris stayed there on the floor. They changed the towels and made the bed, but didn't seem to do anything else. The other reason we didn't want to complain too much was because the in room safe didn't work. I usually use these safes when I travel, and I've never received an error message on them before. With everything so far, I didn't think it would be fixed if I did complain about it so I didn't. Since we didn't have a working hotel safe, I didn't feel comfortable complaining about the poor housekeeping services, considering that same housekeeper would be around our valuables since we couldn't lock them up. We just kept our mouths shut.
Here are some other things that should be improved, in no particular order.
The soundproofing on these rooms is horrible. We could hear the monorail announcements and the planes flying overhead all night. It was like we had the sliding doors open.
The shower took almost a full minute to get hot water as opposed to the sink which got it immediately.
There was an area near the bathroom sink with peeling paint. In that same general area, you could see where it was patched up but not properly painted.
The pool was slightly dirtier than I would've expected, considering we only saw a couple other people using it during our entire stay. They were definitely some floating things in the pool. I didn't examine in them but I'm pretty sure they came from a tree.
I can't say it was all negatives at this hotel though. Here are some things you may like staying here.
The 24th floor with that free breakfast and all day coffee is great. It's not the most amazing food you're ever going to get but considering it comes with staying here it's pretty good. The coffee machine works well, although only one is in working order and it seems like it's been that way for a while. Also, the juice machine really should be 24 hours instead of just during breakfast. They also have water with flavoring and you can do sparkling water as well. The breakfast is just basics like omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, cereal, oatmeal, bagels, and donuts. Nothing amazing but for free why not!
We didn't use them, but we did check out the laundry facility, which is a washer and dryer. They were newer and looked to be in working order. However, they don't have any detergent or anything else on site. They should at least have something for you to purchase so you don't have to go to the local grocery store to buy something.
The market that they advertise being 24 hours and located in the hotel is actually just sodas and small bags of potato chips that they sell out of the lobby near the restaurant. Not much of a market.
The hotel rooms themselves are nicely appointed. You get a Keurig and a clothing steamer, which is way better than an iron. The TVs are newer Samsungs which work great with casting streaming services. Picture quality is outstanding for a hotel room. read more
