Room service was always done before we got back to the room. They offered a complimentary fruit basket on our first say with an orange, apple,, and pear. It wasn't much but it was a kind gesture. They provide complimentary slippers, toothbrushes, and coffee in the room. I would stay here again when travelling to Hong Kong.

All of the common areas (main lobby, lobby bar, restaurants and public rest rooms) are immaculate. With regards to my assigned room, images are attached--taken immediately after check-in, so that you can share my first impressions. In my opinion, the room size was more than adequate. Furniture was arranged in such a way that the room did not feel crowded. The room's widows are large, which helps make the room feel bigger. (I had a view of the Happy Valley Racecourse.)While the furniture was not "brand new", it was clean with no obvious signs of wear. The mattress was comfortable; the sheets were clean and crisp. The carpet was clean. The bathroom of my unit was small (compared to those found in a more modern hotel). It had a shower--no bathtub. But the size is consistent with other hotels designed during the same era. The bathroom is where you see the most wear and tear; again, it was well maintained. The towels were always clean--but on some days, I got specimens that were newer than others. Amenities provided (which I valued) included: good Wi-Fi connection; 2 free bottles of water per day; a room safe; and a nice selection of toiletries. The television had good picture and sound--but I didn't visit HK to watch TV. With reference to location, the hotel is a (rough approximate, for me) 5 minute walk to "Times Square"; 10 minute walk to the Wan Chai Ferry Pier; 10 minute walk to the Wan Chai MRT station; close to the Causeway Bay MRT. With adjustment for peak demand periods and weather conditions, taxis are available at the hotel's front entrance. As for dining options, the hotel does have some nice restaurants. But there are a lot of eating options in the immediate vicinity, too. You can eat at a higher end restaurant; eat like a local--or at any price point in between. Hotel room rates are a reflection of the location, total room size (sq. ft.), age of the facility and amenities provided. Given all of these considerations, I did enjoy my recent stay at the South Pacific Hotel in Wan Chai, and feel that the room rate paid was reasonable for that area of HK. The staff was also very helpful, when their assistance was needed.

I would recommend paying a little extra to get a room with a view of the harbor which I think makes this Ibis an especially nice deal. The room is comfortable, not very large but that's common in big cities unless you want to pay a lot more. The staff was friendly and efficient, breakfast offered good coffee and a nice selection of food. The hotel is about 8 minutes walk to the central MTR station, which we also found convenient. Their free airport express minibus from Hk station to the hotel is also nice. We used it both ways, when we arrived and left, which was a big help. Another nice touch, as the water in Hong Kong is not drinkable, they have a free fountain in the lobby to refill your empty bottles. There is a Starbucks on the ground level (the lobby is on the 4th), which we did not use but seems quite popular. I definitely recommend this hotel and would go back.

The breakfast is very good. Actually all the Shangri-la hotels usually have good breakfasts. They have many Western and Asian items available. There are several mini marts nearby and plenty of small joints to eat. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They were quick to help me when I lost my key.

The lobby is really nice, with helpful staff and coffee/tea at the front desk. The rooms themselves were on the smaller side, but definitely very cozy and comfortable. I believe that the rooms also come with large windows and one of those window side couches. We got a room with a harbor view and the view was absolutely awesome. Rooms were spotless and also came with a flat screen TV and free wifi. One weird thing is that our room didn't really have a bathroom - there was a bathroom stall, a shower, and a sink/counter right when you enter. There was a sliding door you could pull to separate the two, but there wasn't a real 'bathroom' that you usually see in hotel rooms. You lose a little privacy, but given the price and the quality of the room, it was definitely understandable. There is a small pool and gym at the top floor with amazing views of the harbor, a definite plus. Overall, we had an awesome time at Hotel Jen and would definitely recommend it!

We booked a 5 night stay at Dorsett Wanchai during our recent trip to HK but sadly the whole…read moreexperience was a letdown. The first thing to be aware of is that one side of the hotel faces the cemetery, so if you didn't book a Causeway Bay or racetrack view room, then you'll likely have a room that overlooks the cemetery. We were well aware of this from our research prior to booking, but it didn't bother us much so we decided to stick with the cemetery view and pay a little extra for the room with clear windows (as opposed to frosted windows which is a separate booking) to let more light in, and so we could look outside and feel less cooped up. However, when we got to our room, the windows were boarded up with textured glass panels and you could not see outside at all. We ended up going back down to the front desk to point out that this is not what we booked.  In my opinion, there was more back and forth between the front desk and the manager than there should have been. They kept stating that the room was correct and that the clear windows were just behind the paneling...and that most people just keep it closed because of the cemetery. We told them the paneling wasn't disclosed in the booking and we wanted to be able to look out the window. So the manager came up with us and tried to remove the paneling, but was only able to partially remove one of them. He told us they were fully booked out for the night but he will see what he can do. He later called to offer us complimentary breakfast for the stay as compensation for the incorrect room we got, but we declined as we were only in HK for a few days and wanted to get out and experience local cuisine. Not to mention, we didn't want to continue staying in a room where we couldn't look outside...so I asked again to be moved to a different room. After another call he informed us he could move us to a clear windowed room the following night, but since they were full for the night we'd have to stick it out one night which we agreed to.  We were told our luggage would be moved to the new room when ready, however instead we had to move everything ourselves. We first repacked everything, went down to return our keys when we were told to move our luggage to the new room, so we had to go back up, grab all the luggage, go back downstairs, return the old key and grab the new ones, and go all the way back up with our bulky luggages. We didn't get any compensation for the inconvenience as well as the fact that we were not provided the correct room type on our first night.  On top of all this, the carpets in the original room looked super dirty and stained. The shower door was also not flush with the rest of the glass..there was a gap towards the bottom which meant a ton of water leaked out onto the bathroom floor when we showered. We tried to soak it up with towels but there was just too much water, and it ended up tracking out into the entryway where I slipped and could've injured myself. Luckily, the carpet in our new room was much better, and the shower did not leak although it did have some problems with draining. Our newer room also felt more spacious as they made better use of the available space in terms of room design. Elevators were extremely slow and did not fit many people. Plan extra time when leaving your room in the morning, because some days we had to let multiple full elevators go by before we could fit in one. Even just waiting for one elevator sometimes took a few minutes. Lots of people checking out the hotel breakfast on the 2nd floor too in the mornings.  Our friends' room got a vending machine voucher for skipping room cleaning, but not sure why this wasn't offered to us as we did not have our room cleaned for our entire 5 night stay.  One plus was that flavored water and candy were available in the lobby afternoon which was a cute little perk. Location-wise, it's also  pretty close to a number of bus stops but you'll likely have to do a few bus/subway transfers if you're looking to venture out beyond Wan Chai.  Communal laundry is available and the dryer was actually powerful. You can only pay with Octopus card or WeChat pay though, and there are only 2 washers and 2 dryers.  Overall, it seems like there's a lot of inconsistencies between the cleanliness of their rooms and not sure how they can advertise clear windows when they're boarded up. Due to our experience staying here I would look elsewhere the next time I'm in HK.

My wife and I came for a recent trip for 12 days and we enjoyed our stay. Our room was clean and comfortable. We requested the housekeeping staff to clean our room every other day, and asked them to change the sheets midway through our trip and they did a good job. As part of our reservation, we got free breakfast buffet on their 1/F Restaurant "A Chef's Table", which was tasty and had a whole bunch of options. We didn't try any other hotel restaurants, or try the pool or other amenties. The hotel's wifi was pretty strong. Despite setting up thermostat, my wife was hoping the heat were be stronger in our room, while they weren't able to adjust the central air, they provided my wife a portable heater on her nightstand. While on previous trips we've stayed in North Point, we chose this hotel because Tseung Kwan O was an convienient location for seeing the relatives and friends for this trip. Within walking distance there were many food and shopping options, and we could see all of Hong Kong getting more busy as the borders were opening up, the New Territories still don't seem as busy being in the center of the Island or Causeway Bay or Tsim Sha Tsui. While in the NT, we were able to get wherever we needed to go pretty convieniently through MTR or bus. I didn't book the reservation but my wife said it was a pretty good deal. I'd recommend this hotel.

Popcorn mall is also connected with two nearby TKO malls. As for the hotel itself, my experience with staff have always been pleasant whether its with the front desk or the cleaning ladies. The lobby and elevators were always very clean (although elevators were a little tad slow). The rooms were also clean and spacious, some with a pretty good view of nearby parks/outdoor spaces. Overall was very quiet as well. The only thing about the rooms is that the shower water wasn't super hot. Staff responded to our concerns pretty quick and it got better. My room also featured a bathroom with a glass wall. There is an option to have blinds down (inside the bathroom) but because of the light on the other side of the room, you can still see inside the bathroom - just something to be aware if you're sharing the room. The gym was also very clean and pretty standard with equipment. I wish they had a bigger space for yoga mats/open space but I was able to find a little corner for myself. There is an outdoor pool that is going to reopen in April 2023. Breakfast buffet is another add on option. It featured a good range of Asian (esp Hong Kong style) and Western classics. It had your omelets, sausages, hot food, bread/cereal, but also had wonton noodles, congee with diff condiments/sauces, etc. Overall enjoyed my stay here with many reasons to recommend this hotel to others!

The biggest advantage is the location: you're right near the hustle and bustle with plenty of food and shopping options, and the MTR station is just a short walk away, which makes getting around Hong Kong very easy. The hotel itself was okay overall. During our stay, some areas were under construction, so parts of the property felt a bit less polished. In the lobby, they have a communal water station, which was handy, but we didn't really explore many of the other hotel facilities, so I can't comment on the gym or other amenities. Our room was fine but definitely on the smaller side, which seems pretty typical for Hong Kong. There wasn't much space to move around, and the beds were extremely small and fairly firm, so comfort may be an issue if you're taller or prefer softer mattresses. The room had a cooler box instead of a proper fridge, and based on our experience I wouldn't trust it for storing food that needs to stay cold. Overall, I'd call this an okay hotel: great for its convenient location and access to transit, but with pretty basic rooms and a few quirks that might be dealbreakers for some travelers. If you prioritize being close to the action and can live with tighter space and firm beds, it can work, but it's not a standout stay.

The building's renovation over the last decade has modernized this 4 star property, which is run by the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong. Overall, the beds are comfy, the amenities are solid, and the hotel is an excellent value. If location is everything, then this quiet stretch of Waterloo Rd is a nice departure from Nathan Rd, which is just around the corner. It is also 2 minutes from the nearest MTR station (Yau Ma Tei) and stone's throw away from Dundas St and the Ladies Market. The rooms are spacious and modern, which is a far cry from many adjacent hotels on the Kowloon and HK island side. I'm a fan of the larger beds, which were also fairly comfy and the rooms have actual views of the city and beyond. Shower and bathroom facilities were also not a shoebox, which I very much appreciated. From an amenities standpoint, it's quite generous. They have a hotel rooftop pool, along with a 24 hour fitness center, and pretty strong WiFi. Several years ago they would equip every guest with a complimentary smartphone for local calls and internet, which was unheard of. Some good news for the environmentally conscious: It is also eco-certified. As a result, they will no longer offer disposable plastic tableware or plastic bottled water. All guests are encouraged to bring their own personal toiletries as toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. will not be provided. Where they fall short is the dining options, which have been mediocre overall. City Cafe is their all-day buffet option, the Balcony is their in-house Cantonese + Dim Sum spot, Amazing Bakery is the grab-n-go option, and the Amazing is their overly fancy but subpar haute cuisine establishment. Eating off property is far more exciting (#1), but this is to be expected. Lastly the service has been good but not great. They could certainly be more efficient for check-in/check-out times and seem to be understaffed. Concierge is not exactly up to par with the luggage handling or recommendations, but this is not a a deal breaker. All in all, this place gets a big thumbs up.
