Beware of this company and the owner Mike Barela. He is not only incredibly rude, but after his guys broke my desk in not one but multiple spots, he had the nerve to tell me it's not covered but would give me $6. So, if he or his sidekicks break anything, expect him to offer you just that.... $10 or less. Then, to make matters worse, he overcharged me and tells me I can only pay in cash or money order. These guys moved my new spa to an interior patio. To get the spa in there, a door and the doorjamb had to be removed. The tub is exactly where it needs to be and (After Mike re-installed the door) the door works much better now than it ever did before. I can't imagine how they could have improved this experience. I called Atta-Boy with only 6 days notice of needing to move my entire apartment from Santa Fe to Los Alamos. Mike, the owner, was incredibly professional and friendly on the phone. After describing what I had, he told me there'd be 3-4 guys with a truck showing up at 9:30 AM, he quoted me a time, and a price. I could have not have been happier with how hard-working everyone was. They took the utmost care to pad everything, even going to far as to padding the external stair rails, etc. to make sure they damaged neither my furniture or the buildings. They took no breaks, and worked relentlessly, climbing up the stairs (on both ends of the move) to bring everything into the right rooms. They assembled my beds, helped with some additional boxes from a neighbor I hadn't warned them about, and finished right around the quoted time and budget. Even though I now live in Los Alamos and not Santa Fe, I'll be calling them for my next move. read more

Just used Atta-Boy for the second time. A lot of businesses in Santa Fe do shoddy work, but Atta-Boy does everything right. Mike called me yesterday to confirm the date and time, which I appreciated. His guys arrived right on time and set to work. I estimated that the job would take them two hours, maybe a little more. They were done in ninety minutes, without sacrificing care of my prized possessions for speed. Not a nick or scratch on anything, and a couple of my pieces are awkward and very heavy. The guys were strong, careful, and pleasant to work with, and I tipped them accordingly. As for the guy who went to all the trouble to give Atta-Boy a one star review based, not on using their services, but on a glimpse of their truck being driven . . . Someone needs to find a more constructive use for the Internet. Go look at cat videos, dude, and pop open a cold one. Sounds like you could use a breather. read more

These guys were so great. They were able to fit my piano-move in last-minute (next day), and were on time. The site where they were moving the piano from was a bit tricky with a long driveway, and they adapted their plan easily. They spent 13 hours moving us across town- Mike did a phenomenal job motivating his crew and making sure no time was wasted. I cannot rave enough about Mike and his crew. They moved us from Santa Fe to Las Cruces without a flaw. They were fast and careful and respectful and reasonably priced. They made our move so pleasant. I highly recommend Mike. He is a professional in every sense of the word. All our belongings arrived in top-notch condition he and one worker unloaded the entire trailer and set up beds, placed Furniture where we needed it and even arranged the boxes in the garage in a manner that we could easily reach them. Truly awesome! People who complain about how much a mover pays you for damaging an item does not understand how Insurance works. Mike told us up front that any item is insured for about $0.60 a pound. Therefore if you have a Priceless $5,000 Bowl but it only weighs 5 lb the insurance is only going to pay you $3 for it. You need to buy supplemental insurance for covering belongings. AFLAC, for one sells this type of insurance. . He did not charge us one extra penny over the estimate. And right up front he told us it had to be a cashier's check. He was very nice and his staff was quiet but very respectful. read more

I have two antique mission chairs and they did not need to be reminded not to carry them by the arms. They even put together a bed support for me that I had bought. No issues here. We only have the highest praise for Atta Boy Movers after a three-house move to Santa Fe. Mike Barela is fantastic! Communicative, efficient, and courteous-- and he is excellent at what he does. The price for the move was very reasonable, but what won us over was the best customer service imaginable. Mike did a remarkable job of organizing our move from the Four Corners (about 200 miles from Santa Fe) in the middle of January, which ended up involving driving on some icy roads and through some fog. He returned phone calls, emails, and texts promptly (sometimes responding to emails quite late at night if he had been on an all-day move). He gave great recommendations for the things we were packing ourselves (e.g. using contractor bags for clothing so they can be used for padding, packing books into boxes that will stack evenly at least 5 boxes high on a dolly) and asked good questions about the things we wanted him to pack (all the breakables, liquids, non-clothes/books). On the day of the move, he orchestrated all the packing and loading into three "smaller" trucks, knowing that our new home in Santa Fe didn't have room for parking on the street in front and required pulling into the driveway. He was ever-watchful of his four guys, consistently overseeing their packing and loading, and they were quick to follow his instructions. (Of note, they also had very positive attitudes and great manners.) Unloading the next day went very smoothly, including our 100+ years old, very heavy upright grand piano with a long-broken wheel. Out of our combined three households and extensive art collection, only one martini glass and one small piece of pottery were broken in the entire move -- no walls or doorways damaged. It's got to be some kind of record! A really nice touch: Mike offered to come back and remove the boxes and packing materials after we unpacked. We were so glad that he used recycled boxes for our move --what a waste if all these boxes only get used once! On this return trip, he and two of his guys also shifted some furniture around for us, including that heavy grand piano. Once again, efficient and friendly, and as careful with our belongings as if they were his own prized possessions. Nightmare! After over 2 months of being promised to file a claim for all the furniture that was damaged, broken and deeply scratched, I am contacting New Mexico Movers and Warehousemen's Association -NMMWA to see what avenue of action I can take. All my furniture was new from Pier I and World Market. I was offered $.60 on the pound and was told he only cover 200 pounds-which is $12. My leather sectional was Pier I at $750 and each piece is 70 pounds and there are 4 pieces. Good customer service is priceless along with word of mouth. Advise to anyone thinking of using this service: is there insurance coverage for damages done by Mike and his crew. read more

Mike's crew is awesome. They were very friendly (especially the youngest), he had the best people skills and didn't ignore me when ever I had a request or question. However, Mike has no people skills. I watched him blatantly disrespect one of his crew who came to him with a question. He flat out called him "f***ing retarded" I was disgusted by Mike's treatment of his crew. I saw frustration on all their faces when ever he walked anywhere near them. It's clear to me that while Mike is very good at what he does, he should stick to staying in the truck so his crew can work better. For hours I watched Mike belittle his crew and micromanage them to the point that one of his crew left after the started yelling at each other in the parking lot. The crew is on point with or without Mike. I think someone needs to teach Mike a crash course in customer service or hire someone to talk to people instead of him. I will say this though, they work tirelessly with from what I witnessed they worked about 6.5 hours and had one maybe two very short 3-5 minute breaks. If you go to them you will get the expected service, but for your sake as a customer of Mike I hope you have patience and thick skin. read more

Mike and his crew are extremely careful, efficient and professional. I had to change the specifics of my last move several times... each time Mike was gracious and accomadating. Atta-Boy has moved my "stuff" 4 times now (all of them complex moves) and every experience has been positive. And his rates are very reasonable!!! Mike and his guys are amazing!! They are prompt, courteous and they work really hard for you. Mike saved my ass! The mover I hired didn't show up on moving day. So I frantically went to Yelp to find another mover, morning of moving day. Luckily, I ignored the few negative reviews on Yelp and called Atta Boy Movers. I told Mike my situation and he was sympathetic and willing to help me out. He moved some appointments around to fit me in, last minute. He even showed up a little earlier than promised. Mike and his guys were quick and efficient. They were all super nice, too. They packed all of my stuff in an amazingly short amount of time and made sure everything was safe and secure. They moved us from Santa Fe to the East Mountains, on short notice, like it was no big deal. Honestly, I almost cried when they were done unloading everything because I knew without Mike and his guys, my husband and I would have been forced to rent a truck and move it all ourselves.
