It was memorable in it's negative review, at the time. However, a few years have passed and we were flying out of Gatwick so I decided to give it another try. I am so glad we did. The room was modernised from the dirty room of a few years back. Very comfy bed and a modern bathroom. A drink was called for so down to the bar. This was a positive from the previous visit. However, it had changed. Gone was the wall display of various sized champagne bottles to a more simplified, beautiful, wood walls and that terrible glass roof was now obscured. We sat at the bar as there was a celebration going on in the main room. Service was so fast and friendly by a young lady and a barman. Parking is private, behind gates; you need the password to get out. So far so good But...there was a great rip in one of the leather benches in the bar...should not be left like that...and annoyingly you go and sit down, settle in with jacket, phone, ipad etc...look at the menu, then they tell you, you have to go to the bar to order and pay...meaning if you decide on something else later, you have to do that all over again..ie leave or carry all your stuff with you to and from the bar...since the place was totally crowded I chose the latter option...hmm The room could have done with a luggage rack... The best thing in a way, for those of you who remember Get Smart or saw the file remake...as you walk along the corridor, all the lights come on one at a time...just like the doors closing in Get Smart Would stay there again though...

I have never stayed in a boutique hotel before so admittedly I have no yardstick for comparison but I came away feeling like they almost had something really good going on but not quite. The main feature of our room was the bed base was constructed from frosted glass blocks which were then illuminated from inside. This would have been awesome except it seemed like at least one of the bulbs inside the bed was blown and when you turned on the "in bed" lighting the result was far from spectacular, you would struggle to find your way to the bathroom by it. It was small but adequate, the shower was decent, my only gripe was it looked like it had taken two goes to cut the tiles out so the fitted around the cistern, but rather than removing the first set they were all in situ for the world to see. I guess at least it is a lesson for me when I come to tile my bathroom... Breakfast consisted of a muffin, a croissant, some muesli with milk and a glass of orange juice. It's left outside your door so no need to get up at a set time, but nothing to get overly excited about. Bring your own hairdryer if you happen to be a girl, there isn't one in the room. If you are a guy planning to surprise your other half then you should probably bring one too... In summary I would say this place is a great idea which is slightly under executed. It felt like the place could do with a little TLC and then it would be really good. The bed was a divan whose legs had been removed, so it was practically on the floor, and there was no bath, just a shower in the cupboard, and a sink in the main room. I couldn't see the internet access, and there wasn't much room to speak of. Good points however, the shower was very powerful, and the TV worked a treat. It is only a short walk from Edgeware Road and the tube, and there are plenty of places to eat. My main gripe is the fact that the man who spent most time ob duty, wasn't welcoming, and neglected to tell me about the supposed bar, or explain what the breakfast consisted of or how it would arrive. I asked for 7.30 and at 7.45 I was just about to go and complain when I found a plastic tray with rice crispies, orange juice, a chocolate muffin and a croissant with some random Jam. No butter, no coffee (that was just the nescafe in the room) and no choice. If I want quirky but scruffy, I will stay at home.
