I am a Hilton member and stay at Hilton for business and pleasure frequently during the year. I've been spoiled by the amenities, customer service, and rooms that Hilton offers. In this case, this is a DoubleTree hotel and definitely one of my favorite Hilton brands. Unfortunately, this DoubleTree has fallen far short of my expectations.
First off, registration was relatively painless. You get one or two welcome chocolate chip cookies upon check-in but only when you check-in. Other DoubleTrees that I have stayed at give you cookies upon request and there are no limits. Here, you only get 1 or 2 depending on how many people are staying in the room.
Secondly, I'll talk about the room. I reserved a king room and once I got into the room, I noticed that it was kind of small. The window overlooked Bath Road. There is a small table with 2 power outlets, a decent-sized flat screen TV considering the size of the room, and an open closet fixture with hangers and shelves where the coffee pot, coffee, tea, and condiments were arranged. On the bottom of the fixture was the iron. The entryway is very narrow so you can't open the bathroom door and expect to stand in the hallway. It's that narrow. The bathroom is also small as expected but not too claustrophobic considering the size of the room. The tub is very high off the ground and you have to high step it (really, really high) in order to get in. When you get out, you have to step down and you have to be careful because it would be easy to slip and fall. This is definitely not ADA safe. Not sure what an ADA/ disabled room looks like. The peculiar thing is there is a glass partition that only covers about 1/4 of the tub and once you shower, there is no way to get water all over the floor. The toilet is one of those water-saving types but there are instructions that tell you to hold down both buttons to flush. You have to flush multiple times to get everything to go. This room definitely need a renovation as the walls, floor, and bathroom were tore up and has fallen out of repair.
Thirdly, I'll talk about the breakfast. As an elite member, you can either choose Hilton points or a free breakfast. I chose free breakfast. You can order a la carte or partake in the breakfast buffet. They had scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, beans, hash browns, toast, and the usual breakfast items. Having breakfast here over the next couple of days, I noted that the food never tasted fresh and never really tasted that good. I guess I shouldn't complain that the breakfast was technically free and it saved a meal for us as meals in London are not cheap.
Finally, 4 out of the 7 days, I had to go downstairs to get more soap on the days that I needed it, as well as shampoo and conditioner. It's not a big deal for me but my wife needs more because she has long hair. All of the other DoubleTrees have facial soap and bath soap, but this location only offers facial soap and they only give you one bar. I guess they expect you to use the same bar of soap to wash your hands and then take it over to the bath to use it in the shower. It gets annoying when you have to go downstairs every day to request more toiletries that should have been restocked. We left empty shampoo and conditioner bottles on top of the sink but the housekeeper just threw those away and did not restock.
All-in-all, the one good thing was that the king-sized bed was comfortable and the linens were decent. The hotel is convenient to the bus lines that take you to the Hounslow West Underground station and is also close to Heathrow. It was just sad to see a DoubleTree hotel offer this kind of experience. read more
