I had been in Cleveland Park about a zillion times before noticing this place. Atomic is right across the street from the Uptown, and it's located in a basement with only a modest-sized sign to mark it. Atomic is a pretty sweet lounge-type pool hall. This would be a great place to take someone on a casual, weeknight date. It's close to the red line and is laid back with a good selection of games and beers. Atomic's 1950s/science-fiction decorations remind me of that really bad movie with Brenden Fraser and Alicia Silverstone (when he's locked in a bomb shelter for 35 years or something). I would love to spend more time here, because it's just really relaxed. As far as I've seen, no creepy guys/girls trying to hook up, no dancing on bars, no one trying to do a body shot off people's chests. As far as food goes, I would suggest eating before you come here, unless you enjoy having potato chips for dinner.

Dark, divey, and perfect for cheap drinks and playing games with friends. Pool tables, shuffleboard, oversized Jenga, and tons of board games. In DC, you really can't beat $3-$5 for a beer during happy hour. My husband and I have walked past Atomic Billiards at least a dozen times during evenings in Cleveland Park and decided to stop in for a couple beers and a game of shuffleboard last night. It wasn't overly crowded, and service at the bar was fast. Very laid back vibe.

A lot smaller than I anticipated but it was not over crowded at all. The pool sticks were well kept, the tables were smooth and we got in quite a few good games! Wanted to stick around for some darts but had to head home. Overall, a chill place!

Not too overbearing, not salty, and not an overwhelming sherry taste. The cheese was melted perfectly and the portion was just right. The service was okay. I was a solo diner and felt a little forgotten, almost as if the bigger tabs mattered more? The inside is also a little tight, but the building is old so that's expected! The history and charm really add to the aesthetic and it's definitely a cool, historical spot to check out for some good food. I unfortunately did not get the add a matchbook to my collection as I was told they don't have any, which was sad. I would recommend people check this spot out!

Yesterday we got a table and I now understand why the restaurant is so popular besides being known the place where JFK proposed to Jackie. The host and waiter were very friendly and efficient. The ambiance was so great with so many people joyfully gathered both on the floor and arounf the bar. From the entire restaurant watching the Kentucky Derby and cheering for that to singing happy birthday along with a table celebrating. It was so fun last night. Lastly and most importantly, a restaurant must serve delicious food and they nailed it! We had oysters, pork chop and seafood pasta. I can tell the recipe and preparation were superior than the typical pork chop (w/truffle oil) and seafood pasta (w/capers) at other average restaurants. Also the cocktails were very good. Everything was excellent and we can't wait to come back!

Sure, it's got its St. Elmo's Fire fame. But our group of six sat in the little back room so that aspect was lost on us. Nachos were nasty. Absolutely the worst I've ever been served. The "cheese" [product] seemed to be watered down Velveeta and wouldn't even stay on the chips. Scant toppings. Not tasty. Crab dip was actually pretty tasty. Served with big slices of crusty bread. Cheesy. Goopy. Kinda what you want with crab dip. I'd hit that again. Our group got a variety of dishes, from vegetarian lasagna to the chicken bowl to various sandwiches and a cup of soup. I got the smashburger with fries and it was decent. Fries were quite good. Burger served with dry bread, no spread, did not impress. Had to ask for a side of mayo to slather on the bun. Not sure why they made it with two small patties versus one bigger one that actually fit the bun. Made it hard to eat. Only spoke with one other person from our party about our outing the next morning, but neither of our bellies were feeling well, even 14 hours later. Maybe just go here for a drink at the bar and some crab dip and fries...?

Katie truly dedicated herself to giving us a wonderful experience, and it was amazing to see the space transform into a wonderful event space. Our biggest challenge with planning our son's Bar Mitzvah is that we knew he and his friends weren't exactly big on dancing - the games they offer at Continental, however, made for a truly wonderful evening regardless. The kids were able to play pool, ping pong, skeeball, shuffleboard, connect four - and they had a blast. A separate kids bar with the option of themed mocktails was also an incredible touch. And the food, oh the food - I can't speak highly enough about the food. Yes, it's largely bar food, but for teenagers (and teenage boys in particular) that's perfect. The food was delicious and very popular. And I have to say - the price, compared to what I know some of our peers paid, was quite good. The advantage of having your venue also be your caterer. If I had one slight criticism is was that they were maybe about one person too short-staffed for the evening, and that prevented the kids' bar from being fully staffed at all times, but honestly this is only a small criticism. My son and his friends had an incredible time and he's going to remember the night for the rest of his life - and Continental is a big part of why it turned out so well.

I chose to check this place out for happy hour because their deals listed on their website seemed great. Unfortunately, none of these prices were accurate and everything was substantially more expensive. There was also a minimum ($10 or $20 I think?) for credit cards, which was inconvenient. The service was ok--there was only one bartender and we were 2 out of a total of 4 people in the place, so it would have been insane if our service was slow. Unfortunately, the glassware I got seemed to still have soap residue, which I could both see with my naked eye and clearly taste in the beer. Lastly, the decor just makes no sense. It's a mix between frat basement and mafia grotto. We went near the holiday season and someone had just taped colored plastic wrap to the wall haphazardly. Overall, I may have gone back even in spite of all of this if the deals listed online were genuine. However, at this point I will not be going back to Recessions anytime soon.

The sound system wasn't working, there was no sound engineer on site, and somehow they booked a band without even having microphones set up or ready to go. Just bartenders there trying to figure things out on the fly. The band, Paulie Boy Blues and Scottie Blue, showed up ready to perform and got completely let down. You could see the frustration and disappointment. These guys deserved way better than what this venue gave them. On top of that, the place felt unsafe. I saw exposed fan blades with no protective grates, broken and loose stairs, and open electrical junction boxes. That's not just sloppy, that's dangerous. And unbelievably, there wasn't even water available. I couldn't get a glass of water. Basic hospitality wasn't there. If you're going to host live music, at a minimum have a functioning sound system, proper setup, and a safe environment. This felt amateur and unprepared across the board. I'll keep supporting the musicians, no question. But they should not come back here unless this place gets its act together. Right now, it's not worth it, for artists or for customers.
