Maybe Marisqueria Atlantica and I got off on the wrong foot when my friend and I walked in with flip flops, in t-shirts/shorts, and partly covered in sand. No one warned me older folks would be having business lunches. Nor that the waiters would be wearing formal nautical uniforms. Oops. All that aside. The first thing that was slightly off putting was the cold and aloof air of our waiter- all I got were vibes of judgment and disdain (was it really that crazy that we were coming from the beach 100 yards away?). Totally unusual for Puerto Rico where people are so warm. The food (mostly seafood) was decent- but nothing to write home about. My friend's swordfish was a bit bland- if it weren't for the stir fried wild mushrooms that accompanied it, the dish would have been very bland. My red snapper with cheese and tomato (a combo I haven't had on fish before) was pretty good and probably the better of the two dishes. But frankly, it's generally pretty hard to mess up a dish that includes cheese and tomatoes. That ish makes almost anything good. The back dining room has a nice garden view- this I appreciated. Other than that, the restaurant seems to think it's much more high brow than it actually is. Lots of more down to earth spots with better (and cheaper!) food in the area. read more

Portions a bit smaller than Pre Covid but I suppose that's an ok balance and glad they are back in the business. Nice ambiance. Caring and nicely made acrylic dividers when they actually put work into the look and feel and branding so they don't look like thrown pieces of acrylic. Parking has TESLA charging stations. **FOLKS BEWARE**We arrived in PR first day and we chose this place because of the Yelp pic menu. We thought " this place has a lot of choices" instead we sat at a very empty place. *first red flag* The waiter took use to see their "fresh fish" and some of the fist was definitely not fresh. You can tell by the fish eyes-if they are sunken and turning black-they are old. *red flag #2* Then we were seated and given paper menus with limited options (not the black hard back menu with all the options) *red flag #3* At this point we should have gotten up and left but we were still optimistic and hungry. Appetizers were a bit pricy and the waiter mentioned a caracol salad that was not on the menu but offered as a appetizer. It was a small plate and rather good according to my BF. Then we ordered our dinner plates, I had the linguini on olive oil $10 (for just the pasta) and if you wanted meat it was extra so I added chicken $15 extra. Plate was small and it was not linguini it was fettuccini pasta. It was your basic pasta plate with chicken-absolutely NO FLAVOR and the pasta was dry and hard. My Bf ordered a fish plate with tostones $30+ Fish was the size of a palm-rather small but my BF said it was good. We had two can beers each for drinks. When we got our check, we were in shock. What we thought our dinner was going to be around $60 turned to be $123 for two!! We found out that the caracol "salad" was $35!!! But since it wasn't on the menu and offered as a "appetizer" we didn't think it would be the same price as a DINNER PLATE! Needless to say, none of the plates were worth more than $25 to be very honest. This place is a scam and left a very bad first arrival impression in PR. As for the waiter, he was total BS. First trying to tell us the fish were "fresh" picked up this morning. Secondly, during our ordering process we asked questions about the food since we didn't know what things were, he was bothered by all the questions. Finally, when we left, he had the audacity to followed us out side because he was unhappy with the 15% tip we left!!! What a piece of work. The valet at our hotel recommended this little jewel of a hideaway. The service is impeccable! It was raining and a man came to us with an umbrella and assisted my mom. Inside it was the same. Tag team wait staff insure you do not need a thing! For example: My Mom's paper napkin fell on the floor. She didn't realize it but, the waiter brought her a new one! The sauces are fantastic. Very flavorful and nicely done. The fish on both our dishes was over cooked but, not terribly. My mom had the seafood platter. Full of seafood! I'm talking a langoustine, 1/2 lobster tail (Caribbean), a large sea scallop, a mussel, grouper, shrimp and calamari! All that for $32! I had the grouper with a mushroom gravy with thyme. ($27) Very tasty! The decor is Spanish and it's quaint and smallish. It seems to be run be locals and they need our support folks! The downside, the A/C smells like pee. The place was pretty empty for a Wednesday night in February. Two other diners were locals not tourists like us. Some of the lights weren't on which made me feel like they wanted to close but, it was only 8pm..? Maybe it was just to conserve. And no view. Other good stuff: there's a parking lot! It's on the Isla Verde strip and easy to get to. Our meals were timed well and did not have to wait. They serve bread with homemade garlic aioli. (Who does that anymore?) I found the prices about the same as everywhere else but, you actually get more food. The restaurant is clean and tidy. The homemade sangria is delicious! And did I mention the service?!! How Google Maps Almost Killed Me Sitting in our hotel room at Intercontinental we decided on seafood, and according to yelp and google maps this restaurant was a 7 minute walk away. With baby stroller in tow we leave the hotel. 25 minutes later, through some questionable neighborhoods and past a graveyard we still haven't arrived. My travel mates are hungry and not entertained. I stare at my phone wondering how technology could lead me wrong. If this meal is less than stellar I'm probably going to be found dead on a San Juan beach. How Marisqueria Atlantica Saved Me. The fact that I'm writing this and my travel mates are still friends with me is testament to how good Atlantica is. The only weakness is language. It's best to speak Spanish to the waiters. Somehow a glass of red wine and half bottle of white became a bottle of white. We gave up and drank it. They specialize in seafood and do a wonderful job. The grilled octopus, while not as good as I've had in Spain , had a nice garlic seasoning and not rubbery. I greatly enjoyed the paella. The rice was drier and less sticky than traditional Valencia paella and contained lobster in addition to other seafood. Not traditional but a definite winner. Other well received dishes at our table were the red snapper with manchengo cheese and shrimp tostones The best part ? The bill. 3 apps, 3 entrees and bottle of wine = $117 before tip and after tax. Great seafood restaurant in Puerto Rico. The paella was fantastic and only cost $22. You get a healthy serving and it is topped with lobster. Many other restaurants charge much more than that and you don't get nearly as much seafood. I had a generous serving of scallops, which were also good. I think there 10-12 scallops on my plate along with sides. My mom ordered this fish (can't remember the name), but they de-boned it right at the table. This place is interesting. I mean, I must have been confused when I picked this restaurant. First off, it's a little hard to find. Siri couldn't do it. Then the parking lot. No place to park. But, the valet took our car off our hands. The people here are nice enough. And without a reservation, we got a table right away. Service seemed to be attentive and the interior of the restaurant was pleasant enough. As for me, I had a difficult time finding something that I wanted to order. So, I opted to start with a salad. It was huge. But could not identify some of the ingredients. But it did have tomatoes and hearts of palm. It was okay. BJ got one of the evening specials, it was a seafood dish which included fish, prawns, scallops, clams, mussels, squid and 1/2 of a lobster tail. It was okay, but the lobster was overcooked. For my meal, I got the Tostones & Shrimp with Manchego Cheese appetizer. I didn't really like it. The plantains were hard and the cheese was tough. I ended up removing it and didn't eat it. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. And at the end of our meal, our server seemed to get lost and we had to trip someone to get them to bring us our check so we could leave. I have been coming to this Restaurant for many years. I had not been in the island for a year or two and it seems like the resturant change owners!!! Well what a SURPRISE!!! Two out of the three choices we wanted they did not have... no red snapper, no extra bread...ok it was 7:15 pm when we walk in so it was a rough weekend.. the pállela was dry and not tasteful...my wife got the Mix grill and it was bland and no taste. I really don't know what the hype is about this place. It seems like an senior citizen center with bad seafood. I will preface this by I grew up in a crabbing town, and lived by the ocean all my life. I'm not gonna say I'm an expert but I know my seafood. I had the lobster linguine, the sauce and pasta ratio was good but the lobster was tough. I enjoyed eating the pasta more than the lobster, which is sad. I paid $31 for linguine... My friend had the salmon stuffed with crab and the dish was odd, it came with a rich creamy crab stuffing and then it was dressed with brown gravy... That gravy really didn't need to be on the plate it really threw me off. Brown gravy is for meats, not seafood... I don't know what they were thinking. The atmosphere as I said seem like the early bird special at the country club. There was a family there but they kids looked so stiff. All of the waiters were older men, reminds me of the stuffy Michelin Star wannabes in NYC. The waiter was appropriate if that should be a word to describe service, he did his job in and out, was cordial but nothing more, nothing less. Sub par experience and quiet disappointing because so many people rave about it and say it's great seafood in town, maybe because Puerto Rico isn't known for there seafood, thus why you shouldn't really take an extra effort to go here. You're better off getting fried seafood at the local bars.... I think they only reason why I think they should have one star is that their bread was good, warm and soft with a creamy garlic butter! The service at this restaurant is excellent, which is what I want to start off with because the food was subpar at best. They did let us know that the chef was not currently present when we visited. The Mahi Mahi was dry and seemed overcooked, and the new York steak was completely flavorless and overcooked. The sauce tasted as if the mushrooms were spoiled and was very unpleasant. They did however allow us to order a chicken caesar salad, but the chicken was also overcooked on the caesar salad and was tough and dry. The red snapper was amazing and cooked perfectly though, and the tres leches dessert was also delicious. read more

In this particular case, this was NOT worth our $70 tab which included a whole fried snapper (flavorless) that came with tostones and the paella marinera. This was not paella! Only senile old Condado people and naïve tourists eat here anymore. Why? Just saunter over to the "fresh" seafood market on the side the filters the delights of the sea into the kitchen. The fish and shellfish are nasty, overpriced, and the workers rude. Much of it looks refrozen. Some fish is going for 3-40 bucks a pound, and it's nasty looking. Fresh fish should not smell bad. I kept going back over the years since it was the only place that claimed to have "fresh" fish, but no more. The health inspector should shut this place down. On a positive note, they do have a good wine selection, and to go. Finally, Alans Seafood Market in Ft. Buchanan is even worse, if that is even possible. Costco or driving to Isabella is your best bet. read more

This is a place I visit frequently with my husband and family. Their Spanish Cuisine was excellent. Yesterday, July 14, 2021 we went with my son and his wife. Upon entering the service was terrible. We requested a Jar of Sangria, we requested the second on we had to return it because is tasted more like fruit punch. We explained to the waitress and ask her to change the same. She took it to a lady bartender who clearly became very upset. Someone else ended up preparing the Jar for us. We the waiter returned she placed the jar and left. We had to serve our own cups. Very disappointing. I requested water and was asked how many bottles. I responded regular water un cups, to what the waitress replied this restaurant does not give water, it has to be purchased.....Seriously lady?? Immediate I ask her if the restaurants administration had changed to what she responded, Yes All the plated in the menu were over priced for the quality, portions and the service. The appetizers were ridiculously bad. Not tasty and cold. My husband orders paella, it was salty. My son ordered Zarsuela de Mariscos and the Sause tasted like Italian sauce, completely awful. I ordered salmon and it was cols. My daughter in law ordered pasta and the portion was so small, she left the restaurant being hungry. She was no uncomfortable she just wanted to leave. Our complete experience was shameful. Honestly a place I will not give second chances. We felt we wasted over $250.00 and were not pleased at all, on the other hand left very upset. We had been visiting this Restaurant under the old administration for over 15 years and all experiences were outstanding. Our last visit in fact was at the beginning of this year. This place is terrific!! It's a little pricey but, by PR standards, it's not all that expensive; and the food was absolutely amazing!! My wife and I were looking for a really great seafood restaurant and we certainly found that in Marisqueria Atlantica. It is at once, both elegant and simple with a very intimate 'old world' feel. Our first waiter was a younger guy (mid-late 30's) who was obviously unhappy about having a table of American tourists who wanted to take their time and ask questions about the menu. He was rude and unfriendly but was quickly replaced by an older waiter (Pedro - ask for him!) who had obviously been there a long time - the manager noticed our treatment and made this switch before we could ask! The drinks were first rate and included one of the best margaritas we've had here in PR! As an appetizer we ordered a1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell and they were, perhaps, the BEST oysters we've ever had!! If you like raw oysters, don't miss out on these! We're going back before we leave to have more!! We also had a cheese-topped crab dip with toasted slices of French bread that was amazing! For our entrées we chose redfish topped with tomato and a local cheese served with a cooked pickled red cabbage and the most tender and lightly buttered carrots. Our other entrée was grouper served in a light mushroom and thyme sauce with the same sides. Unbelievable- both of them!! This was, hands down, the freshest and most perfectly prepared fish we've had in Puerto Rico, so far!! The perfect portion to fill you up but not stuff you! Because my wife informed the manager that it was my birthday (on a sneaky trip "to the bathroom!!"), I was surprised with a piece of Birthday Bread Pudding and a single candle, at the end of the meal! The waitstaff then led the restaurant in singing me 'Happy Birthday' (in English), to my embarrassment and my wife's utter enjoyment!! I'm not a huge fan of bread pudding but I'm going to have to re-think that position after eating my Birthday Pudding- it was absolutely delicious!! I could eat that bread pudding several nights a week and never get tired of it!! And, much to my surprise, the restaurant did not charge us for for the dessert! In the end, 2 appetizers, 2 entrées, 1 dessert and 3 rounds of drinks (6 total) cost $120. Not a cheap dinner but the quality was equal to (or even surpassed) that of restaurants we've tried here in PR that were TWICE the cost!! I couldn't recommend Marisqueria Atlantica more highly! Between the food, the service, the atmosphere and the relative cost, you won't find a better seafood restaurant in San Juan!!! P.S. This is a secret known to the locals, which thankfully, was passed on to us by some business contacts. Located in the Isla Verde area, this is on a road parallel to the Expressway and pretty close to the airport (10 minute drive, max). They've got their own parking lot, along with a small fish market attached so you can purchase fresh fish on your own to take home. The restaurant itself is somewhat small; there is a back room that contains a bar and may be more appropriate for large groups, but the dining room probably is not. Much of the menu has a Spanish influence and Paella is heavily revered. I went with the seafood casserole which came with a side of tostones. I had a ton of seafood such as shrimp, octopus, crab claws, lobster, clams, mussels, and large pieces of fish. It was a very good portion and the sauce was excellent for dipping the bread in. Our server was very good and prompt in taking care of us. On a side note, do *not* ever have a medical issue that requires 911 to be called. We where there when someone in the back room needed medical attention right away. Ladies came out yelling, ...".....911..." (that was the part I understood, anyway). The employees immediately got on the phones. Now this is the scary part: it took exactly 27 minutes for someone to arrive to render assistance to this poor man. Not the restaurant's fault, mind you, but if you need a first responder, you may be better off in going to SJU and chartering a GA aircraft to go to MIA with. I, on the other hand, nearly passed out from all of the hot PR cops that arrived on the scene. They arrived in twos and the next thing I knew, there must've been 8 of them there. These guys must go through a hotness panel! I got flush, I felt faint....it wasn't good. Never mind there was a guy in the back needing help, they totally notice when a woman is eyeing them up and down and will smile in kind. Parking lot is small so if it's busy, expect to park on the street or valet it. There is a store attached to the restaurant where you can buy a variety of fresh seafood. Dining room is casual and has a nautical theme. Glass by the wine selection is limited to one white and one red which was a bummer. The red was a 2009 Cillar de Silos from Spain. Bacon wrapped scallops were fresh and excellent. Seafood soup is broth based with lots of squid and shrimp. Seafood paella portion was large and can be shared unless you are really hungry. Lobster and shrimp in the paella was a bit overcooked. It wasn't bad but I've had better. Overall service was good. read more

Visited this restaurant today with my boss' co-workers. We started with the wines, beers, etc. I originally opted for some water, but was coerced in to some white wine. It was good. Not the cheap stuff that gives you headaches. Next, we were served fish sticks (not sure the technical name) and calamari. I did not have a chance to taste the calamari, as we had a pretty large group. The fish sticks were good, as was the tartar sauce it was served with. Then came the bread. As others have mentioned, the garlic butter is amazing! The bread was fresh and meshed with the butter perfectly. I ordered the skirt steak, cooked medium well. It was delicious. The seasonings were just right and the sides of green beans and mashed potatoes were the perfect compliments. I also tried someone's red snapper, which was bomb and some shrimp and pasta, also amaze! We ended with some Puerto Rican coffee, which I was told is like an expresso shot, very strong concoction. Whatever it was, it was great! The perfect way to end an even more perfect meal. Decided to check this place out for a decadent seafood lunch treat with an old friend. The atmosphere is a little dark with many tables in a small room with many attendants hovering about. The restaurant is definitely in the tourist district and as a result of that the prices are exorbitant. The food is very well-prepared. We treated ourselves to scallops wrapped in bacon which were perfectly cooked with a delicious seafood based brown sauce. Five scrumptious scallops were delivered on a small plate. For the main course my friend had rockfish grilled shrimp and muscles in a tangy red sauce. And I chose to have the lobster tail at market price with drawn butter. We also treated ourselves to an accompaniment of a Dominican version of mofongo and steamed and buttered broccoli. I have to say that $45 lobster tail was worth every single delicious savory sweet dense bite. I savored every delicious bite, it was only the price that was hard to swallow. My friend agree about the rockfish, a fish not indigenous to the Caribbean. It looked like a 10 or 11 ounce portion of white fish fillet akin to a halibut steak. The muscles were Steve perfectly and the shrimp grilled perfectly. We finished our meal with an espresso and the traffic only change. The one thing I had a struggle with was the servers didn't really give me attention. I am an English-speaking person, with some cursory Spanish, my friend who's Puerto Rican made the order in Spanish but I was hardly recognized. And I didn't appreciate that. So I'm not sure if they did not speak English or if there were other factors operating here. I found it odd in this tourist area. This seemed to be the only place with a place to park and although we wanted to try another one, parking is key on Sunday in Isla Verde. We ordered pasta with lobster $32, octopus salad $16 as main and tripe appetizer $9. The pasta had maybe 4 pieces of lobster and between picking out pieces of shell and eating overcooked over creamed pasta this was the most expensive "noodle ala chef boyar dee" I had. The octopus salad although tasty was tiny and more an appetizer size. The tripe was so small, tapas are much larger. 2 beers. Total $80. They were so obnoxious that they did not even bring $.57 back change and rounded in their favor. At the end it's not about the 57 cents. It's about professionalism and customer courtesy. Let me put it this way, the food was so bad that it made me immediately drive home to write this review now. We got calamari for $9 and was given 9 calamari rings. Oysters were $12 for half a dozen. the pricey were EXTREMELY HIGH, and with the EXTREME price the food did not compare at all to those prices. I spent $285 today and feel like I have been robbed, I should of known better because the appearance of the place is exactly like the taste of the food. I will not lie the service there was good and the gentlemen working there were extremely nice but the food was disgusting, bland, and non seasoned. And to end it of as stated off just way to pricey. This is the first time I'm writing a review on Yelp and i feel compelled to do so to do justice to the fantastic food served at Marisqueria Atlantic. Today's last day of our 6-day visit in Puerto Rico and the dinning experience here topped all others. You will love their crispy bread - the garlic butter that comes with the bread is just addictive. The texture and seasoning of the appetizer of octopus was truly amazing. And their seafood over rice just blew us away - we have eaten this course at a couple other places but never expected such richness and freshness of ingredients. The waiters all dressed up in sailors uniform. They were not very talkative but I don't like those salesman-type waiters so I enjoyed their service as well. Just a not pretentious place with great food at very reasonable prices. I'm not always a generous tipper but just could't help this time.:) read more
