One enormous advantage of Atlantis Lodge is the beach attendants set up yellow umbrellas & loungers for you
Lisa S.

I almost don't wanna brag on these people, because it's hard enough already to get rooms at this pet friendly boutique hotel where every room faces the ocean and has a balcony or patio (and a clothesline to line dry wet duds). The service is great. The rooms are great. (They're mostly suites, which in this case is studios with room dividers and kitchenettes.) The beach attendants make it so all I have to bring to the beach is my book and myself, they set up chairs and umbrellas. They're genuinely awesome. Be aware: you have to make reservations by catching an actual person on the phone or in person, and they do not have someone in the front office 24/7, because they care for their staff and close the desk at a reasonable hour (9p in the shoulder season, later in the summertime). There is an emergency line if you're there and need late-night help.

I love this place! We have been coming here since the 90s. It is always clean and well taken care of. The best part is that it is right on the beach! It isn't huge, so the beach isn't super crowded. And it is pet friendly. We've never taken our pets but I love seeing othe people's pets. The last time we went, my mom and sister got one of the suites and my husband and I got a king bed room. The great thing about the suites is that they provide everything you could need - pots and pans, silverware, and even paper towels. It saves a lot in money because you can eat in your room. We usually eat breakfast and lunch in while enjoying the beach and then go out for a nice dinner. The king room we got was small with a super small bathroom but it was nice. I had no complaints. The lady warned me that it was small when I called to reserve the room. It still had a fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. One of my favorite parts of this place is they have a little patio right on the beach with rocking chairs and umbrellas. You can just go and watch the waves without having to get all sandy. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Atlantic Beach.

Just got back from a weekend at the Atlantis Lodge and I'm already looking forward to heading back. I won't be staying anywhere else when I'm visiting Atlantic Beach! Beach Motels have notoriously bad reviews on here so when I came across the stellar reviews of Atlantis Lodge I thought it was too good to be true. I called them up to book about two months in advance and was looking forward to the stay. My husband and I love mid-century modern so I was also excited about that aspect since the first part of the lodge was built in the 60's! We stayed in a standard suite which had a queen bed and a pull out couch, along with a kitchenette and small dining table. Between the bed and pull out couch there is a partition that you can pull across which is nice if you are staying with other people sharing the room. The bed and pull out couch were both very comfortable. You can tell they use upgraded linens and pillows vs your standard beach spot. The bathroom left something to be desired. Mostly just because it was a bit old, but you can tell they work hard keeping it clean. If you want to use the kitchenette just be sure to bring everything but the utensils/plates. We didn't think to bring coffee grounds, napkins, or a sponge! They even have a set of grilling tools that you can use. The balcony was huge with an amazing view of the ocean. The only thing I would change there is that they just have the plastic lawn chairs on the balcony. Would be nice to have rockers or even just a little bit of an upgraded chair. Lets talk about the beach! It was perfect!! Just steps away from your room and the best part-- a beach attendant with complimentary loungers and umbrellas for you to use. AMAZING! Seriously this was one of the main selling points for me. With a baby the last thing you want to do is lug more stuff to the beach than you already have to. My little guy was not a big fan of the ocean, but man did he love the pool. Their pool is beautiful!!!! They have a big area with sun and some shade then a little waterfall down to a shaded kids pool. They even have these super comfy floats you can use. The staff was all super friendly and it seems all the employees enjoy being there. One fun fact (which I learned about on the posters in their indoor lounge)-- when most people think of Atlantis they think of the big property in the Bahamas. Well, turns out they sold their trademark of the name Atlantis to the guy who wanted to build Atlantis in the Bahamas. This Atlantis definitely came first which is why they can still use the name! The hotel is dog and family friendly! Definitely more of a family spot vs a spot to party at on the beach.

Location, location, location! 5 stars for location. Steps away from beautiful Atlantic Beach. This pet friendly motel is very clean and welcoming. Only stayed one night after staying down the road at a big hotel, we wanted to check this place out. Same beach but nicer amenities. The room was very clean and had a small kitchen with a 2 top burner, microwave, small fridge and dishwasher. Coffee maker supplied but no coffee. Local stores abound and I believe they may have some coffee at the office if you forget. The balconies all face the ocean so great views. Very comfy queen bed with partition and pull out bed. The grounds are very natural looking and clean, with a cool outdoor lounge area. Love that the beach is so very clean and very walkable. We also enjoyed a dip in the pool, nice shade trees, a bit smallish, but nice that they had a kiddy section. Only complaint is the lack of water pressure in shower and the water changed temp while in shower. As I only stayed one night, it wasn't too bad but longer stays would be issue. Was a short staycation in the midst of pandemic and protests. A much needed getaway!

And so it begins.

This is one of my favorite places to vacation. Every year we look forward to our beach trip. I love the old fashion feel of this place with updated finishes. Donna, the daughter and general manger, has a good eye for this. This hotel is a beach front property. Pets are allowed. It's fun to see all the dogs. If you are not a dog owner, like us, and are wondering if there might be a pet smell in the room, don't worry!, we've never smelled one in ours. The good thing about this place is you can choose your room. We've been coming back to the same room for years. The hotel is three stories with no elevator. They have traditional rooms and small and large suites. We always get a large suite because it comes with an oven. We like to bake our fresh fish. It's family owned so you see the family about the property working, greeting guests and doing other necessary to do's. There is a pool that's heated. It's nice to enjoy and feels very refreshing. Umbrellas and lounge chairs and beach chairs are provided with no fee. Isn't that awesome?! Sometimes there is a beach attendant so he can set up for you. And, sometimes he's not there. I get my husband to set up the umbrellas and I pull out the lounges. Just remember to put up your lounges and umbrellas at the end of the day. Don't want them to get washed out to sea. We come back the same week. So, we see the same families come back year after year. I've seen tags in the parking lot from New Jersey, Wisconsin and Georgia, that I can recall. Also, there's no charge for parking. The hotel has free WiFi too. There's also boogie boards to use and a sea kayak. We used the sea kayak once. And, floats at the pool. Bring your beach towels. They have grilling stations. I think two grills. You don't have to bring grilling tools. They have them at the office. Just return when finished grilling. They have a game room to play pool, watch tv and hang out. You can also check out DVD's. This is absolutely the best place. You won't be disappointed! Enjoy!

Want to take a step back in time, yet still have all your creature comforts of today? The Atlantis Lodge is the place for you. Driving up to this place I was like, "uh oh," another motel on the beach that is probably in need of being bulldozed, but NOT this place. This place is a true GEM. Check in was painless, my room on the main floor was spotless, and the sliding glass door in the back led straight to a patio area with comfortable couches, swings, etc. I was here as part of a family trip where family members had taken a variety of rooms. Everybody was happy. The staff even let us set up outside for a fish fry two nights in a row. The hotel is pet friendly and if you're no fan of dogs, this probably is not the place for you. However, we had two dogs in our group, and it was awesome that we could have them with us at such a nice hotel. There are plenty of benefits. Wifi, beach umbrellas, chaise lounges, chairs, kayaks, outside shower with shampoo & condition, an AWESOME pool, cold A/C in the rooms, refrigerators, BBQs, an upstairs lounge overlooking the ocean, with a big screen tv and comfy chairs. My room was comfortable, had a king sized bed, a decent TV, great bathroom, and I felt secure. This place gets it. I felt like I was at home here and I will be a returning customer for sure.

I stayed here the night after my wedding in the honeymoon suite. It was FANTASTIC! The view was gorgeous, and watching the sun rise and set was amazing. The staff are all very nice and helpful. It is very small and homey, and the staff really make you feel welcome. The room was decorated beautifully with roses and champagne! Thank you so much to all of the fantastic staff for making our wedding night special. I will definitely be staying here again!

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Atlantic Beach Oceanfront - Guest room

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Atlantic Beach Oceanfront

DoubleTree by Hilton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront…read more I used electronic check-in, though I did stop by the front desk briefly to ask where the restaurant was before heading over for dinner about 40 minutes before closing. I'll cover that experience separately. Overall, the hotel delivered a solid stay. The room--707, oceanfront--was clean for the most part and well-equipped with everything you'd expect: refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker (filter-style pods), ironing board, hair dryer, and a television. Lighting is excellent, with plenty of lamps throughout the room, and there are ample AC outlets along with modern USB and USB-C ports, which is a nice touch. One feature that stood out was the small table with two chairs. It made a big difference since I ended up bringing dinner back to the room, and having a proper place to sit and eat comfortably is something not every hotel gets right. The room itself was spacious with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The view was great, and the setup made it easy to relax and enjoy the beachfront atmosphere. There was nothing wrong with the room--it was a solid, comfortable oceanfront stay. Parking is plentiful and free, which is always a plus in a beach area. One thing to keep in mind for this stretch of the coast: it tends to stay windy. Be prepared for strong winds and quick temperature changes, especially if you're spending time outside on the balcony or walking along the beach. Overall, a good, reliable oceanfront stay with the conveniences you want and a comfortable setup for relaxing by the water.

Fast forward this a few years…read more I've probably stayed here on five or six occasions during summer, fall and winter. Like many have said, and it's the truest thing you can say about this hotel, you cannot beat the location and there is nothing in the immediate area which compares to it in that respect. Out the back door and there is the beach along with plenty of parking. Good/Bad/Ugly Time: Good: As mentioned prior, you cannot be the location. Having the balcony door open at night to the sound of the ocean is nothing short of perfect. When they have their outside beach bar open that's also not too bad for the view and the ambiance. No issues with any of the staff here over the years. If you're so inclined you can walk to the bar across the street (The Wheelhouse) or On the Rocks or slightly further is a very well stocked Dollar General that's only a few years old. It's also a short drive to The Food Lion, a McD's, ABC store and a few others. The key is to ALWAYS watch the hours of operation or else you will find out the hard way that McD's will close at 8pm or the better of the two pizza places in town is only open 4pm-9pm. It's not the end of the world as there are far more choices over in Morehead City. Bad: Yeah, the place is definitely dated. I believe it started life as a Sheraton in the late 80's and I think the AB area and the hotel have taken two fairly direct hurricane shots within the past 10-ish or so years. Am I willing to overlook the elderly quirks (although they are on board with Hilton's new streaming TV requirement)? Yes, without question but if you come expecting new/hip/modern, it's not happening. Also, plenty and I mean plenty of people are smoking various things on their balconies or in the hotel's outside courtyard area. If that is going to bother you.......I can't help you on that one. Ugly: Most of the food they serve simply isn't very good and/or it's not uncommon to find they are out of various menu items from their small menus or drinks from their small drinks list. If you have the F&B credit to play with, I guess do what you need to do but aside from maybe a burger at the outside beach bar, don't do it. Overall, whatever, I like this place because I love the area. It's truly a beach/area for beach lovers who want a quiet/pure/simple experience that's 180 of the crap in Myrtle/OCMD or anything in Jerz. Overall, God-willing, I'll be back.

The other kicker is the showers in the room. I was told that some rooms had tubs for families with small children but our room had a huge shower with multiple shower heads that were all adjustable. I've stayed in a lot of hotels around the world that were supposedly a lot nicer than this one, but in the end it was one of my favorite stays ever. We highly recommend the Windjammer.

There is a vanity with a large mirror, and a tiny bathroom with a shower/tub and toilet. The room was clean, and very neat. We had plenty of towels, as well as extra blankets for each bed. The air conditioning was working great! This hotel has two different picnic/outdoor seating areas. One is outside the area where most of the rooms are. The other outdoor area is down at the other end of the property. They had chairs, picnic tables, a grill, and even bbq tools ready to be used. It's a bizarre time to be reviewing most things because Covid has obviously thrown off the "normal" into many shades of grey. With that said, take this one with a grain of salt as it's only a brief snapshot in time for how things are now. In another month or two, who knows? Let's start with the good: The location to the beach couldn't be any better. Just a short walk and you're there. The hotel was sold out or near it every night we were there yet the beach area directly across the street was never busy. The same as last year with seeing the same families and people every day more or less set up in the same spot very spread out from each other. All Covidly perfect. Not so good: Hilton Honors benefits at check in are still a no here, just like last year. The beds are extremely squeaky. Any sitting/moving = high pitched squeaking. The hotel is not following the new Hilton/Lysol cleaning protocol that started a few weeks ago. No stickers on the room doors or verbiage anywhere on property. I was told at check in that if you want your garbage taken to have it in the hallway early in the morning so that housekeeping could grab it and that the only way to get fresh towels or any bedding was to stop a housekeeper in the hall with your old stuff or bring your old stuff with you to the front desk since the hotel was running extremely low. Is the hotel's linen par really that low? Is the smell of that much garbage-food in the hallways overnight a good idea? Our room was dusty/sandy when we checked in and the a/c unit was filthy. No way were either cleaned thoroughly in a while. But since there was no daily housekeeping and with the hotel being sold out the day we checked in... If you want a hotel that has a great beach location that is out of the way and quiet, this is it. Past that, things were on the dirtier side in general and I question any place not following the new cleaning protocol. Time to give this one a rest for a bit.

The most reasonable rates I found were at the Oceanana. Several good things to say about this facility. There is a lot of open space for your beach enjoyment. Rocking chairs are there for you to enjoy. There's an outdoor pool, a couple of picnic areas, shuffleboard courts, a children's play area, access to the beach, and a free fishing pass at their pier. There's also plenty of access to water hoses to wash the sand off you or your stuff, and a clothesline with clothespins to hang your wet suits or towels. Instead of your standard mini soaps and shampoos, there are wall-mounted containers for soap, shampoo, and conditioner. I also found the staff I dealt with to be friendly. I booked the economy room. Two double beds, shower, cable tv, mini-fridge, free wifi. No frills decor, nothing fancy. Quiet surroundings. Had a small problem with the tv, and maintenance addressed it quickly. For a price that's about half of what the chains wanted, it was a good stay for me. I wouldn't suggest the economy rooms for families or business professionals needing a place to meet with clients or employees. If you are ok with a basic no-frills room or if you are there for the fishing opportunities, it's a good option.

It is like taking a step back to a simpler time when you arrive, though appearances might be a little disconcerting initially if you have never stated in such a place (by that I mean an older motel, obviously this is not a new fancy highrise Sheraton), it's an affordable family oriented resort with private beach, pool, playground, and a community feel. You can talk easily to the other guests and maybe meet people who also built cherished memories here when they were kids, too. We stayed in a suite, but not one of the renovated rooms. Overall it was definitely like going back in time, but we had everything we needed. They do the best they can with what they have, everyone there works very hard. The entire motel and property looks exactly the same as it did 40 years ago. There is a family feel to it, can't go wrong with the pool and the private beach and pier right there. Watermelon and ice cream parties on Wednesday and Saturday, it's nice to see families coming together for those activities. Every morning there is a continental breakfast outside, with items like hard boiled eggs, cheese cubes, little powdered donuts, packaged pastries and little sausage biscuits. Fruit cups, yogurts, bananas. Toast, bagels, cereal, coffee, juices. They should put up some wires atop the shelter areas to deter seagulls from menacing guests. This is not a Sheraton or upscale place, but for a few nights at the ocean you can't beat the price and the family memories made are priceless. All rooms are non-smoking, I only wish it was 100% non smoking property, people smoking at the pool and out front of their rooms was not good. Also, the room was pretty clean but the old musty carpet always felt damp. There was some gunk on the wall next to one of the beds. We were given 4 bath towels a day for 4 of us, but really could have used double that because we were at the beach every morning, then at the pool, and back at the pool at night. We brought our own pool towels of course but with 2 kids we needed more bath towels. They also never gave us more soap. We ended up using the palmolive dish soap for washing up. If you are into that retro feel, not intimidated by "first appearancees", don't mind a very simplistic room, you will not mind this motel.
