The old saying goes "if something ain't broke, don't fix it!" Clearly the new owners of the Atlantis Lodge don't believe this is something to stick to! What was once a place with friendly, approachable, professional and personable staff is now manned by rude front desk people who ignore you to scroll through their phones while you stand in front of them waiting for some kind of acknowledgement. Some may say this was perhaps a one-off occasion, but unfortunately it happened more than twice. And not with the same staff member. My family and I used to love to visit the beach and stay at this wonderful hotel. The welcoming charm is already fading and I fear the family-owned feel that made the Atlantis what is was is lost and gone forever. I'm glad we got to experience it while we had the chance and will look back on all our memories with fondness. But this was our last visit to this hotel. I almost don't wanna brag on these people, because it's hard enough already to get rooms at this pet friendly boutique hotel where every room faces the ocean and has a balcony or patio (and a clothesline to line dry wet duds). The service is great. The rooms are great. (They're mostly suites, which in this case is studios with room dividers and kitchenettes.) The beach attendants make it so all I have to bring to the beach is my book and myself, they set up chairs and umbrellas. They're genuinely awesome. Be aware: you have to make reservations by catching an actual person on the phone or in person, and they do not have someone in the front office 24/7, because they care for their staff and close the desk at a reasonable hour (9p in the shoulder season, later in the summertime). There is an emergency line if you're there and need late-night help. read more

I love this place! We have been coming here since the 90s. It is always clean and well taken care of. The best part is that it is right on the beach! It isn't huge, so the beach isn't super crowded. And it is pet friendly. We've never taken our pets but I love seeing othe people's pets. The last time we went, my mom and sister got one of the suites and my husband and I got a king bed room. The great thing about the suites is that they provide everything you could need - pots and pans, silverware, and even paper towels. It saves a lot in money because you can eat in your room. We usually eat breakfast and lunch in while enjoying the beach and then go out for a nice dinner. The king room we got was small with a super small bathroom but it was nice. I had no complaints. The lady warned me that it was small when I called to reserve the room. It still had a fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. One of my favorite parts of this place is they have a little patio right on the beach with rocking chairs and umbrellas. You can just go and watch the waves without having to get all sandy. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Atlantic Beach. read more

Just got back from a weekend at the Atlantis Lodge and I'm already looking forward to heading back. I won't be staying anywhere else when I'm visiting Atlantic Beach! Beach Motels have notoriously bad reviews on here so when I came across the stellar reviews of Atlantis Lodge I thought it was too good to be true. I called them up to book about two months in advance and was looking forward to the stay. My husband and I love mid-century modern so I was also excited about that aspect since the first part of the lodge was built in the 60's! We stayed in a standard suite which had a queen bed and a pull out couch, along with a kitchenette and small dining table. Between the bed and pull out couch there is a partition that you can pull across which is nice if you are staying with other people sharing the room. The bed and pull out couch were both very comfortable. You can tell they use upgraded linens and pillows vs your standard beach spot. The bathroom left something to be desired. Mostly just because it was a bit old, but you can tell they work hard keeping it clean. If you want to use the kitchenette just be sure to bring everything but the utensils/plates. We didn't think to bring coffee grounds, napkins, or a sponge! They even have a set of grilling tools that you can use. The balcony was huge with an amazing view of the ocean. The only thing I would change there is that they just have the plastic lawn chairs on the balcony. Would be nice to have rockers or even just a little bit of an upgraded chair. Lets talk about the beach! It was perfect!! Just steps away from your room and the best part-- a beach attendant with complimentary loungers and umbrellas for you to use. AMAZING! Seriously this was one of the main selling points for me. With a baby the last thing you want to do is lug more stuff to the beach than you already have to. My little guy was not a big fan of the ocean, but man did he love the pool. Their pool is beautiful!!!! They have a big area with sun and some shade then a little waterfall down to a shaded kids pool. They even have these super comfy floats you can use. The staff was all super friendly and it seems all the employees enjoy being there. One fun fact (which I learned about on the posters in their indoor lounge)-- when most people think of Atlantis they think of the big property in the Bahamas. Well, turns out they sold their trademark of the name Atlantis to the guy who wanted to build Atlantis in the Bahamas. This Atlantis definitely came first which is why they can still use the name! Location, location, location! 5 stars for location. Steps away from beautiful Atlantic Beach. This pet friendly motel is very clean and welcoming. Only stayed one night after staying down the road at a big hotel, we wanted to check this place out. Same beach but nicer amenities. The room was very clean and had a small kitchen with a 2 top burner, microwave, small fridge and dishwasher. Coffee maker supplied but no coffee. Local stores abound and I believe they may have some coffee at the office if you forget. The balconies all face the ocean so great views. Very comfy queen bed with partition and pull out bed. The grounds are very natural looking and clean, with a cool outdoor lounge area. Love that the beach is so very clean and very walkable. We also enjoyed a dip in the pool, nice shade trees, a bit smallish, but nice that they had a kiddy section. Only complaint is the lack of water pressure in shower and the water changed temp while in shower. As I only stayed one night, it wasn't too bad but longer stays would be issue. Was a short staycation in the midst of pandemic and protests. A much needed getaway! read more

My husband and I have been staying at the Atlantis for over a decade. This was the first vacation we took together before we were married. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here this past week. I can't believe I haven't written a review before-- maybe it's because the rooms book up so far in advance that it feels wise to keep it a secret! LOL Even though I'm introverted, coming to the Atlantis feels like being part of a family. It's very accommodating to dogs-- dog people are just the very best. We especially love getting to see the reception staff-- Marianna is always incredibly sweet and helpful. Jackie is a great conversationalist, and Debbie has been a fixture here since long before we started staying here. She knows everything there is to know and is an amazing resource! The #1 reason we love the Atlantis aside from the people is how clean it is! The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are *always* spotless. They take extensive measures for mold abatement-- Ive never stayed in a mold free beachfront spot except at the Atlantis. We love that they leave "dog sheets" so that we don't have to worry about getting the furniture furry. Going outdoors with the dogs, whether to the beach or the perfectly-sized dog park is also very pleasant. The Atlantis provides little dog poop shovels-- if you've got your eyes peeled, you'll find there's always one within a few feet. We love being able to skip the plastic and throw their poop in the copious shrubbery. We have two big dogs, and the dog park is big enough for them to do zoomies and play the way they like to. I also notice that I don't get too many big bites, so I wonder if they treat certain areas for mosquitoes. At the beach, our fuzziest boy loves to enjoy the ocean breeze on his own towel-covered lounge chair under an umbrella. The people on duty at the beach are always SO sweet, polite, and accommodating. They do a great job setting up shady spots in the sand for human and canine guests. In-room perks: every room we've stayed in is great! The way the Atlantis is designed ensures every guest has a view of the ocean. All porches are equipped with chairs, a footstool, and a clothesline with clothespins. There are hangers in the little closet, a broom and flyswatter, Kleenex. A nice roomy ikea dresser is a great size for all the clothes you want to bring, and with a little rearranging of the provided dinnerware, there's plenty of space for pantry items in the cupboards. There are plenty of lamps so the ambiance is lovely even at night (no ugly overhead fluorescents like you get in some hotels). The TV and Wi-Fi work great. Most rooms we've stayed in have an L shaped sofa and a pull out bed. The accordion wall is one of our favorite features of the room; it does a great job at blocking out light where the bedroom half of the room is if one person wants to stay up late or sleep in. It's only on recent trips that we ventured up to the lounge area, which is pretty cool. You can't bring dogs up there though! We renewed our vows on the top floor deck at sunset and our friends and family met us in the lounge for pizza and brownies a la mode. It was perfect. The lounge also closes at a reasonable hour, so if you're in one of the rooms below, you won't be kept up late by people playing pool and ping pong. My mom, who recently joined us for the first time here, loves lounging at the pool. Dogs are not allowed in this area, either. It's a really pretty and serene spot. The beautiful trees overhanging provide a good amount of shade. Thank you Atlantis, for all the treasured memories we've made here! We love you! Tip: we bring a travel size spray bottle of Mrs. Meyers' all purpose cleaner to add to the dish soap, paper towels, and sponge that Atlantis provides. Kitchenwise, we can get by on the knives and cutting boards provided, but usually bring our own, plus olive oil and spices. We also always pack our dog water and food bowls, placemats to put under their bowls, a dog bed, floor mats to help keep sand at bay, and some extra towels and blankets for our dogs. read more

This is one of my favorite places to vacation. Every year we look forward to our beach trip. I love the old fashion feel of this place with updated finishes. Donna, the daughter and general manger, has a good eye for this. This hotel is a beach front property. Pets are allowed. It's fun to see all the dogs. If you are not a dog owner, like us, and are wondering if there might be a pet smell in the room, don't worry!, we've never smelled one in ours. The good thing about this place is you can choose your room. We've been coming back to the same room for years. The hotel is three stories with no elevator. They have traditional rooms and small and large suites. We always get a large suite because it comes with an oven. We like to bake our fresh fish. It's family owned so you see the family about the property working, greeting guests and doing other necessary to do's. There is a pool that's heated. It's nice to enjoy and feels very refreshing. Umbrellas and lounge chairs and beach chairs are provided with no fee. Isn't that awesome?! Sometimes there is a beach attendant so he can set up for you. And, sometimes he's not there. I get my husband to set up the umbrellas and I pull out the lounges. Just remember to put up your lounges and umbrellas at the end of the day. Don't want them to get washed out to sea. We come back the same week. So, we see the same families come back year after year. I've seen tags in the parking lot from New Jersey, Wisconsin and Georgia, that I can recall. Also, there's no charge for parking. The hotel has free WiFi too. There's also boogie boards to use and a sea kayak. We used the sea kayak once. And, floats at the pool. Bring your beach towels. They have grilling stations. I think two grills. You don't have to bring grilling tools. They have them at the office. Just return when finished grilling. They have a game room to play pool, watch tv and hang out. You can also check out DVD's. This is absolutely the best place. You won't be disappointed! Enjoy! read more

Driving up to this place I was like, "uh oh," another motel on the beach that is probably in need of being bulldozed, but NOT this place. This place is a true GEM. Check in was painless, my room on the main floor was spotless, and the sliding glass door in the back led straight to a patio area with comfortable couches, swings, etc. I was here as part of a family trip where family members had taken a variety of rooms. Everybody was happy. The staff even let us set up outside for a fish fry two nights in a row. The hotel is pet friendly and if you're no fan of dogs, this probably is not the place for you. However, we had two dogs in our group, and it was awesome that we could have them with us at such a nice hotel. There are plenty of benefits. Wifi, beach umbrellas, chaise lounges, chairs, kayaks, outside shower with shampoo & condition, an AWESOME pool, cold A/C in the rooms, refrigerators, BBQs, an upstairs lounge overlooking the ocean, with a big screen tv and comfy chairs. My room was comfortable, had a king sized bed, a decent TV, great bathroom, and I felt secure. This place gets it. We wanted a pet friendly option for our weekend trip. I found the Atlantis on trip advisor and decided to give it a shot. Our plans changed kind of last minute and the days we were staying changed. I knew they were booked but took a chance and called anyway. Debbie and the rest of the staff did an amazing job accommodating us. I honestly expected them to say "sorry, can't do anything" but instead they went above and beyond to help me out. I don't think I have EVER received that level of service from ANY hotel staff ever. The room wasn't fancy but quaint and most importantly CLEAN and comfortable. There was a lot of attention to details and thoughtful touches. Went last weekend to the Atlantis Lodge for the first time. It was great! Nice, friendly but laid back vibe here. Loved staying in a smaller, family owned place. Comfy furniture outside on the ground level where you can hang out, grill, or hide from an afternoon rain. We stayed in an L suite - it had a generously sized open closet with a hanging clothes area and shelves - plenty of room for our stuff. We just loved the balcony! What we loved: Dog friendly (but everywhere was very tidy) All rooms have a balcony and have a view of the ocean Beach attendants to set up the provided umbrellas and chairs Kitchenette Lounge area Great housekeeping and front desk staff Non smoking Didn't love the softish mattress and weak water pressure. I stayed here the night after my wedding in the honeymoon suite. It was FANTASTIC! The view was gorgeous, and watching the sun rise and set was amazing. The staff are all very nice and helpful. It is very small and homey, and the staff really make you feel welcome. The room was decorated beautifully with roses and champagne! I cannot say enough good things about this wonderfully retro family-owned resort. It has retained it's 1963 charm, with all the modern updates you want and expect. Plus, so much extra value for the money--beautiful beach, garden grounds, unique pool, beach umbrellas and bikes, picnic table and gas grills, roomy kitchenette, PLUS a third floor "common space" with pool/game tables and a fabulous view. Super pet-friendly rooms and even a dog washing station with complimentary shampoo! I have stay here twice for business and plan to come back for a vacation--and I'm not even a "beach" person. What a special place. If you're looking for someplace to get away and just relax, this is it. We spent a long weekend here for my fiance's birthday and stayed in the honeymoon suite. I'm willing to bet it's the best room they have. You can open the sliding door and hear the waves right outside, and watch the sunrise from the bed. As soon as we arrived in our room I fell in love with how adorable it was. It's nicely decorated for the space. I liked the modern-style table and chairs in the dining area, and the functionality of the sleek dresser that also served as a tv stand, and was not so big that it blocked the view outside. It seemed to me that the room was decorated in a way that would ensure comfort and convenience for guests, and still look stylish. Just a few more notes about the room itself... The ample shelving behind the bathroom door is really convenient because there's not much counter space in the bathroom. It was also nice to have a full-length mirror. The sofa is very comfy and there were so many fluffy pillows on the bed! All so cozy. We didn't really use the Jacuzzi tub but it was a great shower. We are not pet owners but we did see a lot of dogs so we will recommend this place to friends that need pet-friendly accommodations. I think it's important to note that while there were a lot of dogs there, we were never at any point bothered by barking, and there was no trace of dog hair or anything like that in the room. We enjoyed watching the dogs run along the beach... they were loving it. I enjoyed drinking coffee while watching the sunrise, going for walks on the beach (I found a lot of great shells), just relaxing to the sound of the ocean, and watching the active birds in the mornings. We are looking forward to returning to Atlantic Beach and staying here. read more

The place is older but it is really well kept and it is right on the beach, all the rooms face the beach so there is a guarantee of a great view. Not only that but they allow pets, which just makes everything more fun. There are a bunch of pet-based amenities and it is the perfect place for a beach weekend. My husband's family has been coming here every year since the 1960s. And boy do I love it! First of all, the building in itself is so cool! The mid-century architecture beats the pants off any other hotel in the area. The landscaping and gardens that surround the property are gorgeous and otherworldly. The rooms are comfortable and quaint. I hope they never remodel the honeymoon suite because that wood paneling and glass is to die for. A lot of the rooms have their original chairs and light fixtures. So so so cool. I'm squirming with delight just thinking about my weeks spent here. We just spent a week at this beach location. It was a great place to stay. Location is perfect! Walk right out the back and down to the beach. Chairs and umbrellas available (at no charge) along with great beach attendants. The attendants remembered where we were on the beach each day and ask if we want our same spot and if we needed anything. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We brought our dog. The amenities for our dog were perfect. There was a place to wash him after spending a day on the beach. Rooms are large and it's convenient to restaurants and grocery store. There are plenty of things to do while you're there, I.e., kayaking, ping pong and pool (both swimming and billiards) all at no extra charge, so you don't have to leave the premises to find entertainment. Would highly recommend!! We'll be back next summer! read more

Stayed here for a long weekend with my dad and had a great time! The place is very nicely kept up and has beautiful water views. Our room was casual but comfortable and very clean. The place has a nice relaxed feel with lots of families (and their dogs) running all over the place. Atlantic Beach isn't action packed so if you're looking for lots to do, look elsewhere. That being said, we went mini golfing in Emerald Isle and enjoyed good food at nearby Moorehead City. Grocery store nearby if you want to stock up for your room! Only drawback would be the inability to check out late. You can get your room for half price if you want to stay till 6pm on your check out date. We will be back! read more

This place is awesome! First we booked one night even though they had a 2-night minimum for our family of 4 with 2 boys and a lab. VERY accommodating staff! We arrived early and were quickly given a parking pass and headed to the dog park for a pit stop! Great feature of your beast is one who prefers leash-free bathroom time. Poop scoops are everywhere. They love their dogs here. Headed to beach where a kind Carlos set up 2 umbrellas and 3 chaises. He even showed us where some extra sand toys and boogie boards were and the kid's kayaks! Awesome! We got a call out room was ready. Nothing fancy in the standard room but clean and fab view!! Could use some updating, but we hung out on the beach or balcony. So, we didn't care. But 4 stars because they don't have coffee!! Pool is nicely shaded! Perfect for infants!! The lounge is every boy's dream. Will definitely return! read more

What a great little hotel! Very dog friendly. If you're looking for the Westin, keep looking. If you're looking for old school NC coastal charm this is for you. Established in 1963 the rooms are nostalgic but very clean. The landscaping is visually pleasing as well. The beach attendants were very helpful and got the chairs and umbrellas set up in short order. A real bonus was walking out to the deck area and finding two massage chairs set up with masseuses from a local company. The price was reasonable, the massage excellent, and with the cool ocean breeze it was amazing. A second generation family run hotel, it was very obvious that the owners have a passion for their business, and dogs :-) I would give it 5 stars if the WiFi worked well. We stayed at the Atlantis this weekend & overall had a great time! I would've given it more stars but the bed was extremely uncomfortable & definitely was not a King Size that we paid for. But the beach access was amazing, the retro vibe was really cool & it was so close to great restaurants and things to do! They had really reasonable prices but I wanted to check the place out before locking myself in on anything, so I swung by. I was greeted by an older gentlemen who I had spoken with on the phone. I asked if I could see a room, which was completely up to my standards, and told him I would take it. I then explained that I had to work until 8, but that my boyfriend would be checking in around 4. He then replied, "There won't be any partying here." I explained to the man that I was 30, and a little too old for that. I felt like this was a little rude for the man to be saying to me, especially because I was in business attire and didn't even put off the persona that I'd trash the place. I was also called at my room around 9 that night because he apparently hadn't run my card correctly. Overall the place was very nice, it's well kept, and a close walk to the beach. I was just not very thrilled with the way I was treated, and will probably find elsewhere to stay next time. read more

If you are looking for the Ritz go elsewhere, but if your ideal is a family friendly, dog friendly, low key, clean and convenient spot on the beach this is your place. We stay here as often as we can and look forward to the next time. Truly DOG FRIENDLY, humans are optional. Comfortable, clean, accomodating, friendly, there are boundless adjectives. We had heard about Atlantis Lodge from several friends, but every time we called it was full - even off season. Finally we made it out for 2 nights with my husband, son and our 2 dogs. We loved it. It is by far the most charming place I've stayed at the NC coast. Our room was comfortable and clean, with a fine view even from the ground floor. The common areas have comfortable patio furniture and two gas grills. Everything is well maintained, with space for privacy or socializing. Very dog friendly, but all the dogs we encountered were well behaved, quiet and cleaned up after. A great location, 5 minutes to aquarium, 20 minutes to Beaufort. read more

What a lovely place! We spent a weekend at Atlantis Lodge with my 16 year old "pup." We were lucky to get the last room on the bottom floor as stairs are difficult for my baby. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. It is a peaceful place to stay. The friendly staff remained in the background & was always anxious to provide what we needed. The rooms are really suites with a kitchenette stocked with dishes, lounging area, and sleeping area with a retractable "wall." It was so amazing to open the sliding glass door & listen to the waves. And the sunrise & sunset were incredible every day. This is my favorite vacation spot. I can't wait to go back! read more

This was my first time on the island when I was not staying in a private home, and I can honestly say that I didn't miss the house. Our room was enormous, and included a huge walk-in closet with enough hanging space and shelves for anyone to move in for a long stay. The friendly and efficient housekeeper, Sandra, kept our room immaculate during our stay. Our balcony was well-furnished, and had a great view of both the attractively-landscaped grounds and the ocean. We enjoyed the use of the ample chairs and umbrellas on the beach, provided by helpful attendants. There is also a large seating area for guests at the end of the private boardwalk, overlooking the beach, and a nice sheltered patio with swings and rockers, in the center of the grounds. The pool area was attractive and clean. The front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating, as were everyone we encountered. We were delightfully surprised! The view is absolutely fantastic Our mini suite was right on the dog friendly beach We're originally from Siesta Key beach in Sarasota Fl which was voted number one by doctor beach in 2012. This beach is equally as good. All the dogs we encountered were well behaved The resort is immaculately clean and the grounds are well cared for. Great restaurants are everywhere. We can hardly wait to go back. read more
