The rooms were interesting in an eclectic sort of way, and the rooms did have different styles to them. Some of them have raised floors in some spots. I don't understand barn door bathroom doors. They leave a gap on both sides and if somebody is on the toilet, they smell like they left the door open. I did have to get a can of Raid out of the car. For a clean looking hotel they did have lots of roaches, but considering it's in a marsh, it's like complaining there are mosquitoes when you visit a hotel in the bayou. We had a nice room. The view was great, staff was nice, very clean, and it's quiet. The only negative thing we have to say is that in the room we stayed in (138), the spigot for the bathtub needs replaced. Everytime we took a shower, we ended up in standing water because the spigot didn't close properly. The showerhead could also stand to be replaced. read more

Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. This place was priced really well, considering it was tourist season at the time. This made me wonder what I was getting into! I didn't have to worry much, though. It was a nice stay. The room had a good view of the sound, and it was loaded up with beach decor and beachy paint colors. A little much, maybe, but still pretty cool. Stayed two nights as wedding guests in room 323. (A block of rooms were reserved for the wedding.) We liked the room layout - King bed plus a queen bed. The king bed was nicely separated from the other bed with a step down and half wall. The room had a sofa bed, small kitchenette, one bathroom, small table with two chairs, a small closet and balcony with two chais. The staff were very polite, friendly and tried to be responsive. Our main complaints were only (3) towels for three people, one bar of soap, and a very cheap tiny coffee pot that was broken. No soap at the kitchenette sink. No utensils at the kitchenette. Only dishes were two plastic glasses and a 1/2 full very small bottle bottle of Dawn dishwasher soap. When we asked for another towel, they said they didn't have any at the desk and would try to get us one from a housekeeper. We never got another towel. Since we weren't in the room except to sleep, we didn't bother about the coffee pot or soap. The management needs to step up and improve the basic hotel amenities. We had one container of combined shampoo/ conditioner. One of the full size towels was very thin. For the price, the basic amenities need to be improved. This seems to be a management issue, not the staff, who were good workers.The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. read more

Our hotel room was absolutely disgusting! Dirty with stains everywhere. Then need to give this place a deep clean and replace the falling apart couches on this place. Also half the outlets didn't work and it had plastic over a lot of the siding. We slept in pants and sweatshirts in case the bed had bugs. They staff only gave us 10$ off for how gross the room was. I booked this hotel because of all of the amazing reviews, the price point, and because of how great the rooms looked in the pictures. I thought maybe I had gotten the last room that hadn't been remodeled yet however, two coworkers stayed here during the same time I did and they weren't pleased either. None of us had rooms that look anywhere close the pictures that the hotel has posted. The room looks like it was decorated with random yard sale items as if it was supposed to be "shabby chic", it was just shabby to me. Overall the room was dingy and comparable to a low budget hotel/motel at best. There are a lot of upgrades that need to be done. Overall Pros - The staff is very friendly -The LOBBY looks exactly like it does in the pictures. It's beautiful, very nautical. -The nearest public access to the beach is less than 2 minutes away -Spacious rooms with couch area and a kitchenette -Free WIFI -Hallways/ stairwell were clean and smelled amazing. -Very quiet, never heard any commotion in the halls. Granted, I stayed here during the week so I can't speak for what the weekends might be like. Cons -No continental breakfast (they tell you that up front, still a con though) -Pool was not usable. Was full of scum and green water. There were some tiles missing too. Sleeping area Pros -Room had a great view of the sound -Nice flat screen tv with the standard hotel package of channels to view. -King size bed -Large counter and a small table w/ three chairs to sit/eat at -Mini fridge Cons -Dingy area rugs in the room -Carpets were stained and looked like they hadn't been vacuumed or shampooed in months -The room smelled weird like dirty carpet -The couch was stained all over -The white comforter was stained. When I asked for a new one, the front desk said they couldn't find one but they bought me a blanket. Also found several strands of long, black hair when I pulled the comforter back. I ended up buying my own blanket and wrapped up in it to sleep. Bathroom -Bathroom counters could've been cleaned better, there was soap scum around the faucet -The shower head was dirty and rusty. It only had one setting, and that setting was fire hose...it hurt -Two of the four towels that were provided in the room had long strings of black hair on them (maybe the housekeepers hair?) Overall, I would not stay here again. I feel bamboozled because the room didn't look anything like the pictures. I came expecting to be able to relax and sleep in a nice room but I felt myself not being able to sleep because the dinginess of the room made me so uncomfortable. We have stayed at Palm Suites several years ago and our room then was awesome. This past weekend we felt like our room should have the Motel 6 motto...we have left the light on for you. Several times during both nights the ceiling light would come on and wake us up as if the daylight was coming through. I would get up walk to the door and turn the light off only a couple hours later for it come on again. Plus the curtains do not cover the sliding glass door and allowed the outside lights to shine through. I suggest to replace with blackout curtains along with correct size. We did report the light situation to the front desk and the response was the owners have been told several times and they will need to repair as we are not allowed to go in and repair. read more

We were highly disappointed with our suite here. The room itself was nicely decorated with a beach feel but the only thing good I could say. The room had a sleeping area and a lounging area. The lounging area had a broken couch which we had trouble getting up from, and a small 21 inch tv. The bedroom area had a wall recess in which a tv use to be. (cable was hanging out of it) We ended up moving the tv since the bed was the only comfy place to sit. The pool was smaller than it appeared in pictures, otherwise the exterior was just ok. My husband and I loved this little gem for a quick beach getaway- and it was super affordable!! The staff was super friendly and the room had a kitchenette, a sofa and a cute little balcony. The location was perfect- the hotel is on the sound with a pier in back to walk out on to look at the water and the boats (or to fish!) and we were only a 10 minute walk from the beautiful ocean beach!! (It was only a 5 minute walk to some shops and restaurants). The 75 degree weather was great for November. We will definitely come back in the spring/summer to take advantage of the saltwater pool, the boat launch on the hotel's property, and the close access to the beach! Can't wait to return!!!!! read more

We're not from the area, and we normally stay in Oak island. We asked a few friends and they said to try Atlantic beach. We were excited to come down because the pictures online were great. The hotel is nice. We checked in late as in 8:30 on a Friday and was to check out 11am on Sunday. The night crew was the best crew! Super nice, greeted us Everytime we left and came back in! There was one time I had to get extra towels and she explain they didn't have enough time to switch the towels over so asked if it was ok to pool towels! I said of course!! She was nice and she apologized! That's perfect staffing! Like I said we got there at 8:30 pm and pool closed at 9pm, so we said we go Saturday evening after visiting the beach (why we were there). We go and as soon as we got in, the night crew came out and apologized but thunderstorms were rolling in. We understand because it got dark quick, and they were nice so we said ok, will come back in the morning before we leave to go to the pool. We got up ate some breakfast and when to the pool around 9:20. The gate was lock, I went to front day crew they said maintenance comes at 9am and they have to open the pool but she didn't think they would open the pool because of thunderstorms. It really confused me because there wasn't a dark cloud in the sky. So it was a bummer not being able to use the pool at all, which was one reason we came. Then as we were checking out she mentions they do not have maintenance on sundays. I wanted to ask if she could have just opened the pool but I don't want to mean. Not to mention the cleaning crew outside our room was rambling how they were hoping we were leaving soon cause they wanted to get our room cleaned and be done. We felt rushed so at 9:40 we decided to pack up, clean up the room and leave. The only two things I have to say is the common area was huge and the bathroom was so tiny. Like the door came to the toliet. then the pool. Over all I liked our experience and I loved the night crew! Hubby and I went off for an impromptu weekend getaway. We had never been to Atlantic Beach and took a chance staying at a place that was not one of the popular "chain" hotels. We were quite surprised at the quality of this place. The only gripes we had are: 1) Reservations could not be made online. However, when we called it, the staff taking calls are quite efficient. 2) The pool wasn't very big. 3) No breakfast or room service in the morning (but just go down the street to the 4 Corners Diner). 4) The temperature in the room is hard to regulate (old fashioned air condition units). 5) The TVs in the rooms were small wall units. 6) Bed pillows were kinda flat. Now, the high points: 1) Very close to the beach and what a lovely beach it is!! 2) The rooms are very nice & spacious. 3) Room are decorated very cutely - all with beach motiffs. 4) Frig & microwave in all rooms 5) Balcony to all rooms. 6) Nice little pier out back. 7) Nice restaurants in the area! 8) Friendly & fast checkin! Ok, so definitely more good to say about this place than bad. Overall, we enjoyed the stay. We would definitely stay here again. read more

We had booked what was supposed to be a condo at a place a few miles up the road and when we got there it was an old motel. So we found this place on the Fourth of July weekend and was not expecting it to be very nice but were pleasantly surprised. Everything was clean and decorated really cute. Each room is individually owned so they are all decorated differently. We enjoyed walks out on the bay side peer. We will surely stay again if we are in the area. read more

The room was okay - seemed a little on the cheap side, but our problem were the huge cockroaches climbing all around the floors and walls. They were all over the parking lot as well. We had to request a refund because we had a new baby with us and just couldn't stay in a room with bugs everywhere like that. Whenever I make reservations for beach hotels I set my expectations very low. When I arrived at the beach we were way early...and the room was already ready. Check in took a minute and the hallways to the rooms were very clean and there were security cameras. The room was SO nice. I was floored. It looked like a fancy beach studio apartment. The decor wasn't tacky AT ALL. Everything was put together nicely and clean. The room was huge and had TWO giant flat screen tvs. The bathroom was clean and had a large sink and cabinets. The room had a kitchen sink, fridge, and chair and couch. I don't know if we just got lucky or what. Maybe we got an upgraded room because this didn't look like some of the pics we saw online. It was way cheaper to stay here than some of the crap motels nearby. The hotel is a couple blocks to the beach, not a bad walk at all...but be careful walking across the busy street... I would spend extra $10 or whatever and get a room on the sound side..it's not that special but better than street view. read more

Booked Palm Suites last minute as a Birthday overnight get away and it was a nice surprise. Check in was seamless and the desk employee was amicable. Our room was comfortable and cozy complete with a small fridge and microwave. It also featured a King size bed and balcony. We would have preferred the Sound side versus overlooking the highway but on short notice it did the trick. Booked it thru Expedia, and we were able to get an affordable one night stay. Only negative was the ever present admonitions about potential fines for not doing dishes or smoking on the premises. Not necessary and definitely off putting. All in all, good place to rest your head at night especially off season. read more

I would just like to let you know that I am quite disappointed in my stay here so far. The people in the room next to mine are quite loud, and I had to call the front desk on them once. They left for a period of time, but then came back loud as ever. I'm pretty sure it was deliberate on their part because I kept hearing one man sushing the other, and telling him not to play music or turn on the television. Maybe the walls are to thin, I don't know. At one point it sounded like they were trying to come in through our closet. Also pretty sure they have a dog. I am also disappointed in the state of my room. Starting in my bathroom, the shower is in a shameful state of disrepair. The wall at the top of the shower is literally crumbling. Moving into the "bedroom" the mattress and box spring are sitting on 2x4s. Both of out beds are full size when I booked queens. The carpet is stiff and sticky. Walking around my room without shoes on has made the bottoms of my feet black. Several of my outlets do not work, and one of the lamps did not work. I must say that the only thing your hotel has to offer is very customer service oriented staff. Both of the front desk people I have spoken to have been very helpful. read more

While the view is amazing, there's a beautiful marsh and wetlands all around, the beds and pillows are HARD AS ROCKS. There's a little kitchen in the room with plates, bowls cups, and a microwave and fridge and you can tie your boat up here. You can fish off the pier. They have a place to clean your fish. You can bbq under a covered shelter. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. BUT MY BACK HURTS!!!! I give it a 5 for the staff and a ONE for the horrid bed with one blanket read more

The website is unclear about a couple of things, so I called to confirm. I was told that all of the rooms have a water view and that the hotel has a private beach. When we arrived, our room had one less bed than we requested (but paid for), a view of the road and parking lot (no water...in fact, the sound is on the opposite side of the hotel from us), and there is no beach access (0.3 mile walk across the major highway). Would not recommend because the rooms are owner owned and you don't what you are going to get. I'm staying here now and wasn't informed until check in that they only give one parking permit no matter how many people are in the room it cars you have. I have two cars and was told park at your own risk at McDonald's or Food Lion but people have been towed at food lion. I took my car to McDonald's and there were signs saying towing enforced so I parked at Atlantic Beach parking which is $2 per hour from 10-5/6 I don't recall. Now the room. The carpet is super dingy with stains everywhere. At this point the property should require the owners to replace it or get more sanitary options like laminate. The bathroom paint has dark spots which appear to be mold and the bathtub has some kind of tape on the wall and floor which also is dingy and dark. Hopefully this isn't mold. The paint looks like it needs to be redone and it's peeling everywhere. The patio furniture was rusting. Basically everything in this unit should be refreshed. I'm very disappointed in the room and would never stay again where I feel i have to rush to take a shower and get out of the bathroom quickly and look around watching my back and wear sandals in the bathroom. I'm also taking precautions with the carpet and wearing socks. read more

I have stayed here several times, and everything is usually great. NOT THIS TIME. I always reserve the same room. When I made the reservation, the clerk told me that we would be staying in the preferred room. Upon check in, I was given the key card for the room beside our requested room, even though we were told we were booked in the room we wanted. I didn't say anything, because I decided to go with the flow. This is where things go downhill quickly. We got all of our things out of our car and loaded onto the luggage cart. We got to the room and opened the door. I was all the way into the room when I noticed that both beds were messed up, like someone just woke up, and then I noticed the empty beer boxes and soda boxes. The room was trashed and beyond smelly. My first thought is that we were given a key to an already occupied room. My husband took the keys back to the front desk and let her know the problem. He returned with keys to a new room, still NOT our preferred room. He said the desk clerk said housekeeping must not have gotten around to cleaning it yet. IT WAS 6PM! And we had a reservation. It's not like we walked in off the street. Description of our room: -VERY BROKEN blinds on "balcony" door -DAMP air coming from air conditioner -old, single person sink, NO counter space, LOW mirror and sink due to this being a handicap room -BARELY WORKING mini-refrigerator -sticky, stained carpeting -blood and/or booger on the DO NOT DISTURB sign -non-working lamp -TERRIBLE Wifi access, the connection is VERY SLOW and WEAK The air is so damp and thick that I have had to use my asthma inhaler WAY TOO MANY times since arriving. NOT GOOD. We have always enjoyed staying here every time for the last six years, but THIS IS OUR LAST STAY HERE. We will not come back. Since the housekeeping personnel was so crappy with the original room, I am creeped out by the thought of sleeping in this bed. We are probably on unclean sheets that haven't been washed since the last occupants were here. Oh, and things keep biting my feet and ankles. I HATE THIS PLACE that I used to love. read more

Great accommodation for a very reasonable price. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Our suite exceeded our expectations. Bed was very comfortable and linens were great quality. We really enjoyed the way the suite was arranged with a living/dining area separated from the sleeping area. A/C was cold! Small pool is well kept with plenty of seating and tables with umbrellas. The boardwalk out to the sound has a great gazebo with picnic tables and really nice gas grills. We will definitely be back! read more

A very nice suites hotel right on the sound with beautiful scenery. The suite is beautifully decorated and comes complete with microwave, small refrigerator, ironing board, iron, coffee maker, plates & toaster. All you need is silverware. We booked a two-night stay here after our original accommodations were canceled. Although it was recommended by a local as "old, but nice" it has been one disappointment after another. For starters, we found out as we checked in that there is no elevator for this two-story facility. Strike One. Then the beach access, which was described to be "across the street," was really across the street (a very busy thoroughfare without crosswalks), and a brisk 10-minute walk from there. Strike Two. When I tried to call the front desk for more towels, there was no answer. And we found out that night that the queen-size beds we were promised were actually full-size. The manager's response to this was to reduce the per-night charge by $10 and give us an additional 5% on our AAA discount. Big deal. And Strike Three. Finally, our room was never cleaned/serviced during our stay. The cleaning crew came while my husband was still sleeping and then never returned (even after I told the supervisor that our room had been overlooked that day). Wi-Fi connection was awful. I'll give it two stars because the room itself is spacious and well-appointed. However, the bathroom is pretty crowded for a "suite." We won't be back. read more
