I booked this hotel because of all of the amazing reviews, the price point, and because of how great the rooms looked in the pictures. I thought maybe I had gotten the last room that hadn't been remodeled yet however, two coworkers stayed here during the same time I did and they weren't pleased either. None of us had rooms that look anywhere close the pictures that the hotel has posted. The room looks like it was decorated with random yard sale items as if it was supposed to be "shabby chic", it was just shabby to me. Overall the room was dingy and comparable to a low budget hotel/motel at best. There are a lot of upgrades that need to be done. Overall Pros - The staff is very friendly -The LOBBY looks exactly like it does in the pictures. It's beautiful, very nautical. -The nearest public access to the beach is less than 2 minutes away -Spacious rooms with couch area and a kitchenette -Free WIFI -Hallways/ stairwell were clean and smelled amazing. -Very quiet, never heard any commotion in the halls. Granted, I stayed here during the week so I can't speak for what the weekends might be like. Cons -No continental breakfast (they tell you that up front, still a con though) -Pool was not usable. Was full of scum and green water. There were some tiles missing too. Sleeping area Pros -Room had a great view of the sound -Nice flat screen tv with the standard hotel package of channels to view. -King size bed -Large counter and a small table w/ three chairs to sit/eat at -Mini fridge Cons -Dingy area rugs in the room -Carpets were stained and looked like they hadn't been vacuumed or shampooed in months -The room smelled weird like dirty carpet -The couch was stained all over -The white comforter was stained. When I asked for a new one, the front desk said they couldn't find one but they bought me a blanket. Also found several strands of long, black hair when I pulled the comforter back. I ended up buying my own blanket and wrapped up in it to sleep. Bathroom -Bathroom counters could've been cleaned better, there was soap scum around the faucet -The shower head was dirty and rusty. It only had one setting, and that setting was fire hose...it hurt -Two of the four towels that were provided in the room had long strings of black hair on them (maybe the housekeepers hair?) Overall, I would not stay here again. I feel bamboozled because the room didn't look anything like the pictures. I came expecting to be able to relax and sleep in a nice room but I felt myself not being able to sleep because the dinginess of the room made me so uncomfortable. I would've have left and stayed somewhere else but everything else was booked. My total stay was three nights..

We were highly disappointed with our suite here. The room itself was nicely decorated with a beach feel but the only thing good I could say. The room had a sleeping area and a lounging area. The lounging area had a broken couch which we had trouble getting up from, and a small 21 inch tv. The bedroom area had a wall recess in which a tv use to be. (cable was hanging out of it) We ended up moving the tv since the bed was the only comfy place to sit. The pool was smaller than it appeared in pictures, otherwise the exterior was just ok. The highlight of this dismal stay was fire in the building where we had to be evacuated on our last night there

This is the back of the hotel and the walkway leads to the pool

We're not from the area, and we normally stay in Oak island. We asked a few friends and they said to try Atlantic beach. We were excited to come down because the pictures online were great. The hotel is nice. We checked in late as in 8:30 on a Friday and was to check out 11am on Sunday. The night crew was the best crew! Super nice, greeted us Everytime we left and came back in! There was one time I had to get extra towels and she explain they didn't have enough time to switch the towels over so asked if it was ok to pool towels! I said of course!! She was nice and she apologized! That's perfect staffing! Like I said we got there at 8:30 pm and pool closed at 9pm, so we said we go Saturday evening after visiting the beach (why we were there). We go and as soon as we got in, the night crew came out and apologized but thunderstorms were rolling in. We understand because it got dark quick, and they were nice so we said ok, will come back in the morning before we leave to go to the pool. We got up ate some breakfast and when to the pool around 9:20. The gate was lock, I went to front day crew they said maintenance comes at 9am and they have to open the pool but she didn't think they would open the pool because of thunderstorms. It really confused me because there wasn't a dark cloud in the sky. So it was a bummer not being able to use the pool at all, which was one reason we came. Then as we were checking out she mentions they do not have maintenance on sundays. I wanted to ask if she could have just opened the pool but I don't want to mean. Not to mention the cleaning crew outside our room was rambling how they were hoping we were leaving soon cause they wanted to get our room cleaned and be done. We felt rushed so at 9:40 we decided to pack up, clean up the room and leave. The only two things I have to say is the common area was huge and the bathroom was so tiny. Like the door came to the toliet. then the pool. Over all I liked our experience and I loved the night crew! I attached a picture of the sky the Sunday morning we were leaving when the day shift stated the maintenance wouldnt open the pool cause of thunderstorms but then said they don't maintenance on Sunday.

Hubby and I went off for an impromptu weekend getaway. We had never been to Atlantic Beach and took a chance staying at a place that was not one of the popular "chain" hotels. We were quite surprised at the quality of this place. The only gripes we had are: 1) Reservations could not be made online. However, when we called it, the staff taking calls are quite efficient. 2) The pool wasn't very big. 3) No breakfast or room service in the morning (but just go down the street to the 4 Corners Diner). 4) The temperature in the room is hard to regulate (old fashioned air condition units). 5) The TVs in the rooms were small wall units. 6) Bed pillows were kinda flat. Now, the high points: 1) Very close to the beach and what a lovely beach it is!! 2) The rooms are very nice & spacious. 3) Room are decorated very cutely - all with beach motiffs. 4) Frig & microwave in all rooms 5) Balcony to all rooms. 6) Nice little pier out back. 7) Nice restaurants in the area! 8) Friendly & fast checkin! Ok, so definitely more good to say about this place than bad. Overall, we enjoyed the stay. We would definitely stay here again.

We love the Palm Suites...so much, we bought a unit! Don't expect a world class resort...but its also not $450 a night....just a really good, clean option for a great visit to the beach.

Whenever I make reservations for beach hotels I set my expectations very low. When I arrived at the beach we were way early...and the room was already ready. Check in took a minute and the hallways to the rooms were very clean and there were security cameras. The room was SO nice. I was floored. It looked like a fancy beach studio apartment. The decor wasn't tacky AT ALL. Everything was put together nicely and clean. The room was huge and had TWO giant flat screen tvs. The bathroom was clean and had a large sink and cabinets. The room had a kitchen sink, fridge, and chair and couch. I don't know if we just got lucky or what. Maybe we got an upgraded room because this didn't look like some of the pics we saw online. It was way cheaper to stay here than some of the crap motels nearby. The hotel is a couple blocks to the beach, not a bad walk at all...but be careful walking across the busy street... I would spend extra $10 or whatever and get a room on the sound side..it's not that special but better than street view.

DoubleTree by Hilton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront…read more I used electronic check-in, though I did stop by the front desk briefly to ask where the restaurant was before heading over for dinner about 40 minutes before closing. I'll cover that experience separately. Overall, the hotel delivered a solid stay. The room--707, oceanfront--was clean for the most part and well-equipped with everything you'd expect: refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker (filter-style pods), ironing board, hair dryer, and a television. Lighting is excellent, with plenty of lamps throughout the room, and there are ample AC outlets along with modern USB and USB-C ports, which is a nice touch. One feature that stood out was the small table with two chairs. It made a big difference since I ended up bringing dinner back to the room, and having a proper place to sit and eat comfortably is something not every hotel gets right. The room itself was spacious with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The view was great, and the setup made it easy to relax and enjoy the beachfront atmosphere. There was nothing wrong with the room--it was a solid, comfortable oceanfront stay. Parking is plentiful and free, which is always a plus in a beach area. One thing to keep in mind for this stretch of the coast: it tends to stay windy. Be prepared for strong winds and quick temperature changes, especially if you're spending time outside on the balcony or walking along the beach. Overall, a good, reliable oceanfront stay with the conveniences you want and a comfortable setup for relaxing by the water.

Fast forward this a few years…read more I've probably stayed here on five or six occasions during summer, fall and winter. Like many have said, and it's the truest thing you can say about this hotel, you cannot beat the location and there is nothing in the immediate area which compares to it in that respect. Out the back door and there is the beach along with plenty of parking. Good/Bad/Ugly Time: Good: As mentioned prior, you cannot be the location. Having the balcony door open at night to the sound of the ocean is nothing short of perfect. When they have their outside beach bar open that's also not too bad for the view and the ambiance. No issues with any of the staff here over the years. If you're so inclined you can walk to the bar across the street (The Wheelhouse) or On the Rocks or slightly further is a very well stocked Dollar General that's only a few years old. It's also a short drive to The Food Lion, a McD's, ABC store and a few others. The key is to ALWAYS watch the hours of operation or else you will find out the hard way that McD's will close at 8pm or the better of the two pizza places in town is only open 4pm-9pm. It's not the end of the world as there are far more choices over in Morehead City. Bad: Yeah, the place is definitely dated. I believe it started life as a Sheraton in the late 80's and I think the AB area and the hotel have taken two fairly direct hurricane shots within the past 10-ish or so years. Am I willing to overlook the elderly quirks (although they are on board with Hilton's new streaming TV requirement)? Yes, without question but if you come expecting new/hip/modern, it's not happening. Also, plenty and I mean plenty of people are smoking various things on their balconies or in the hotel's outside courtyard area. If that is going to bother you.......I can't help you on that one. Ugly: Most of the food they serve simply isn't very good and/or it's not uncommon to find they are out of various menu items from their small menus or drinks from their small drinks list. If you have the F&B credit to play with, I guess do what you need to do but aside from maybe a burger at the outside beach bar, don't do it. Overall, whatever, I like this place because I love the area. It's truly a beach/area for beach lovers who want a quiet/pure/simple experience that's 180 of the crap in Myrtle/OCMD or anything in Jerz. Overall, God-willing, I'll be back.

There is a vanity with a large mirror, and a tiny bathroom with a shower/tub and toilet. The room was clean, and very neat. We had plenty of towels, as well as extra blankets for each bed. The air conditioning was working great! This hotel has two different picnic/outdoor seating areas. One is outside the area where most of the rooms are. The other outdoor area is down at the other end of the property. They had chairs, picnic tables, a grill, and even bbq tools ready to be used. The girls played with beach balls, and we were able to just sit back and relax. Their hotel also has boat slips in a little gut out back. If you choose to bring your boat, they're ready for you! The lady/owner got us into our room and was so nice. She explained the layout, and rules of the hotel. (No pets, no smoking, quiet time began at 10pm). She was so sweet. This is definitely a family-run business and is geared toward families. There is beach access directly across the road, but we took the short drive down to the Fort Macon beach area. The Caribbe Inn is close to the Morehead bridge, many restaurants, stores, beach shops, and other places you might need while at the beach. We had such a nice stay, and enjoyed our time away. It's a bizarre time to be reviewing most things because Covid has obviously thrown off the "normal" into many shades of grey. With that said, take this one with a grain of salt as it's only a brief snapshot in time for how things are now. In another month or two, who knows? Let's start with the good: The location to the beach couldn't be any better. Just a short walk and you're there. The hotel was sold out or near it every night we were there yet the beach area directly across the street was never busy. The same as last year with seeing the same families and people every day more or less set up in the same spot very spread out from each other. All Covidly perfect. Not so good: Hilton Honors benefits at check in are still a no here, just like last year. The beds are extremely squeaky. Any sitting/moving = high pitched squeaking. The hotel is not following the new Hilton/Lysol cleaning protocol that started a few weeks ago. No stickers on the room doors or verbiage anywhere on property. I was told at check in that if you want your garbage taken to have it in the hallway early in the morning so that housekeeping could grab it and that the only way to get fresh towels or any bedding was to stop a housekeeper in the hall with your old stuff or bring your old stuff with you to the front desk since the hotel was running extremely low. Is the hotel's linen par really that low? Is the smell of that much garbage-food in the hallways overnight a good idea? Our room was dusty/sandy when we checked in and the a/c unit was filthy. No way were either cleaned thoroughly in a while. But since there was no daily housekeeping and with the hotel being sold out the day we checked in... If you want a hotel that has a great beach location that is out of the way and quiet, this is it. Past that, things were on the dirtier side in general and I question any place not following the new cleaning protocol. Time to give this one a rest for a bit.

There's also plenty of access to water hoses to wash the sand off you or your stuff, and a clothesline with clothespins to hang your wet suits or towels. Two double beds, shower, cable tv, mini-fridge, free wifi. No frills decor, nothing fancy. Quiet surroundings. Had a small problem with the tv, and maintenance addressed it quickly. For a price that's about half of what the chains wanted, it was a good stay for me. I wouldn't suggest the economy rooms for families or business professionals needing a place to meet with clients or employees.
