We had the most relaxing week of our lives at the Pecan Tree Inn. This is a charming, historical home with roughly eight guest rooms, located a half-block from the main street in Beaufort (perfect location). The best restaurants are all within walking distance. As good as these restaurants were, they could not compare to the Pecan Tree Inn's daily breakfast, home cooked by Christine. Each morning featured a different gourmet dish, ranging from blueberry pancakes to a chorizo egg casserole. We enjoyed breakfast and a cup of coffee each morning at a table on the front porch, which was lovely even in mid-October. The proprietors, Stan and Christine, were perfect hosts for more reasons than the five-star breakfasts. They were super friendly and available whenever needed, and they gave great recommendations for activities and restaurants in Beaufort. Our perfectly relaxing week was made possible by Stan and Christine's hospitality. And we cannot forget the love we received from sweet Bernie, their dog. We will definitely be back. For now, we have our Pecan Tree Inn mugs to remind us of the good times.

On a whim, we decided to stay in Beaufort and called last minute to check availability for last night. Christine was very pleasant and was able to accommodate our last minute arrival. There were homemade maple pecan cookies and cucumber water awaiting us! Stan gave us a great tour of this historic homestead and the room was IMMACULATE. The attention to detail was incredible; there was free WiFi, a mounted flatscreen TV, diffuser, sound machine, mints on the bedside table and even a Pecan Tree Inn booklet with accommodation information and dining suggestions! The bed was super comfortable and it was peaceful and quiet. The breakfast is out of this world. Christine and Stan must be Michelin chefs! There was broccoli and cheddar strata, fresh poppyseed muffins, perfectly prepared bacon, fresh coffee, etc. Will definitely return!

    Breakfast. WOW!!!

The rooms were big and spotless and tastefully appointed. There were plenty of towels, snuggly beds, and many amenities in the room. Each morning we'd go outside on the balcony and sit in the rockers and soak in the sun! The hotel was decorated with a beachy, nautical theme that make us feel relaxed and comfortable. There's a huge lobby with wicker chairs for you to snuggle up and read or just watch the waves. The dining area is spacious and welcoming. The stay comes with a continental breakfast. Honestly, that could be better. For a nice Inn like this, it would be nice to have a better choice and quality of food: fresh, baked pastries and muffins, etc. but we had packaged and microwaved fare. They did have yogurt though. The front desk folks were super accommodating and pointed us to all the cool tourist attractions in the area. We had a wonderful stay here. Improve the food service and I'd give it 5 stars.

Even though we arrived very late in the evening the innkeeper was friendly and gracious and welcomed us with lots of information and a well appointed room. We stayed in the master bedroom upstairs which features a lovely balcony with rocking chairs and a hammock! The queen sized bed was very comfortable and they were fresh flowers in the room. The bathroom was huge! We took full advantage of the boat size jetted tub. The only odd thing was taking a shower with no curtain or glass, she explained they were saving money for that very expensive feature. We had the standard breakfast that was more than enough to keep us going for a good long morning of activity. We started off with lots of fresh fruit and yogurt and granola, then ate homemade biscuits. Both mornings we had scrambled eggs and some kind of potato. One morning it was hashbrowns the next it was spicy potatoes. The first morning it was sausage and the next she served ham. Both were delicious. The inn provided us with a beach bag for our excursion containing Sunscreen, towels, and bags for collecting shells. That was a lovely touch. It sounded like she had a kayak available for guests as well. I might be wrong about that so double check. All in all a delightful stay. Just the kind of rest and relaxation we were looking for.

After about an hour after lightning it, the room was filled with smoke, the alarm went off and had to open the door to our porch and the entry door. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful during my stay. I stayed in a 2nd-floor waterfront room again, and although I didn't use the balcony as much as I had in summer, the views out the windows were still lovely, and I got to see a few sunsets. My room was large and had a king-sized bed, a couch, a table with two chairs, a good-sized flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffeemaker. A dehumidifier was in the room, but it was less humid this time of year, so it didn't need to be emptied. Shampoo, soap and lotion were provided. The products were good quality, and I remembered to bring my own conditioner, and I am not sure why it isn't provided. I was pleased that the wifi was working on this trip, as that has been an issue on each of my previous visits. The tv lineup also had more selection. They may have switched providers for more reliable service. The heater in the room kept the room hot, it got a little too hot at times and it was just set on 63 but that made the room closer to 75. The lowest the wall unit went was 58. I couldn't find a way to shut off the ceiling fan. The bathroom could have used more attention with the cleaning. The showerhead had a lot of buildup and didn't appear to have been cleaned for months; black mold on the shower tiles and the floor could use a cleaning. It could use a deep cleaning or remodel, as the toilet was outdated and used a lot of water. Breakfast was served between 7:30 and 9:30. You could get tea or coffee, OJ, and a bagel or yogurt. It came fast this visit on the days I called for it. I left early on my last day, so I wasn't there for breakfast. They used to include the yogurt too. With the high room prices here, I hope the bathrooms are updated and cleaned, and that the breakfast options improve.

And yet, of all the places I have been, few can match the charm and service of this wonderful couple and this establishment. "Charming coastal" is indeed accurate as another reviewer noted, but so is kind and engaging. At least, that is how I found the host Kim, who is the hostess during your stay. The rooms are modest in size but well appointed and comfy with a wonderful balcony to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the city wake up. The highlight of each morning was the breakfast together. The breakfast is served at 9 sharp and is served with the other guests. It makes for not only a delicious breakfast, but Kim uses it as an opportunity to help direct, guide, and suggest places nearby that meet your interests. This is great as it means you get insider tips and ways to optimize your stay by taking the guesswork out--particularly when you have a small window for activities (we were only there for a few days). In the evenings, Kim hosts a happy hour which includes helping guests secure reservations and dinner plans settled before you go. This is not just a recommendation by Kim--she actively calls and secures the spots and confirms them with you. True concierge service! Setting aside the wonderful host and the rooms, the location is superb. We were there over the weekend, and there is a delightful Saturday market literally ACROSS the street filled with vendors of all varieties. Warming: it is easy to spend. ;) The entirety of the downtown is merely a block away with shops, restaurants, and bars galore along with the cruises, sports fishing, and recreation just a short walk down the road. Bottom line: I adored this place and have already recommended it to friends and family here in Durham (where we live) and beyond. If you can swing it (it is worth every penny) and want to give yourself or your partner a weekend to remember, I cannot more strongly recommend the Inn on Turner.

I had most of the town to myself, and the Anchorage House was no exception. The other weekend guests canceled and I had the place to myself, shared only by the innkeeper. The house is 1866 Greek Gothic revival and located just a couple of blocks from the historic waterfront. The location is perfect for walking all of the historic area and visiting local shops, restaurants, docks and catching the ferries to and from the surrounding islands. I couldn't enjoy the lovely porch due to the weather, but the inside of this B&B was simple, clean and cozy. I stayed in the Hemingway Room on the second floor. Very large bathroom and closet, queen bed, large wing backed arm chair, a portrait of Hemingway (of course), TV and a free standing heater that looks like a fireplace stove (this was my favorite part of the room and really made it all the more cozy). Since I was the only guest for the weekend the innkeeper was kind enough to make breakfast on my schedule - after 9am - because I am not an early riser. Breakfasts were plentiful and tasty and ranged between biscuits, bagels, cinnamon toast, eggs, waffles, blueberry pancakes, bacon and sausage. Accompanied by bottomless coffee, OJ and milk. Breakfast was also made complete by a 2 hour conversation on any number of varying topics with the innkeeper. The prices at this B&B can't be beat. And while the atmosphere is simple, it is cozy and more than worth what you pay. The innkeepers are looking at some big life changes and it is uncertain how much longer they will be running this spot. But in the meantime I will definitely recommend it to others and stay here again next time I'm in Beaufort if they are still around. The innkeeper was very friendly, welcoming and made me feel right at home for my 4 day stay.

Moreover, there is NO LOCK on door when you leave, which means anyone can walk into your room while you are not there. There is a chain lock on the door for when you are physically in the room, but that is it. There was also a giant hole in our wall that was covered by a spray-painted paper plate. As if that was not a deal breaker enough, we were standing out on the porch, and one of us got stung by a Yellowjacket after accidentally getting too close to their hive which we later discovered was under the rug by the door, in the wooden floorboards. The owner came out and sprayed so that we could safely go back inside. However, the next day the wasps were still there and we were told that there was "nothing they can do about it." The final nail in the coffin was the breakfast. We experienced 2 "Hallmark Breakfasts" and 1 "Continental". The Hallmark included fruit, waffle, eggs and 2 sausages. While this was quite good, it was not equal to an additional $60 for 2 people. The "Continental" was where we had the biggest problem - it was supposed to include (according to the website) "a generous selection of fresh fruits, several servings in size along with a basket of biscuits, muffins, toast or the like." We did receive a full plate of fruit but were given 1 small biscuit each and told there was nothing else. Also, when we asked for a glass of orange juice, the owner told us to "watch our sugar" since we also had the fruit. We felt that this was extremely inappropriate, hurtful, and left us feeling judged. Overall the tone was dismal, and every question or request was met with condemnation. If you are looking for hospitality in Beaufort, do not stay here.
