This review is for the Afternoon Tea only: The room was lovely! There were many individual tables covered in white cloths with porcelain tea pots and cups and all of the lovely accoutrements one expects in this tradition. Unfortunately, the execution was just "wrong" enough as to be off putting to anyone who is used to a proper one. The tea selection was abysmal. And since they are using tea bags in the pots, there is no excuse for not having a wider choice. There were 4 savory and 4 sweet items brought out on the traditional tier. (although there are normally 3, not 2 tiers) The portions were miniscule. (I've never seen a scone so small) There was no clotted cream. The lemon curd was flavorful but runny. The jam was blueberry. (no strawberry available) The salad was literally about 2 teaspoons of chopped veg inside a small egg cup. We found the tartlets inedible. This was not an inexpensive experience. ($34 plus 20% tip) Service was spotty as the 2 servers became obviously overwhelmed and repeated requests for missing necessities went without resolve. I understand that this is a new offering. With some adjustments it could be wonderful. It will be up to the customers to decide if this is worth the cost or if there will have to be more attention to authenticity. The restaurant is certainly not going to do anything they don't have to and if people find this "good enough" so be it. We just won't be patrons as it stands right now... read more

Ive stayed here three times in this historic inn with cozy appointed rooms. There are old fashioned fans on tables in the front. Its like walking back in time amd right in the middle of a main street with shopping, bakeries, coffee and more. I stay here all I can! read more

The chefs special grilled cheese was simply out of this world. Tender, juicy, thinly sliced beef of some cut I don't recall, with horseradish, cheese, on rye, with a pickle, potato salad, and au jue for dipping. Out of bounds. We shared it with each other, and were absolutely satisfied. The bloody mary I ordered was just average. It was some premixed brand that I recognized, but can't remember the name on the label. Next visit ordered the gyro. Amazing! Also the thin sliced pork tenderloin sandwich, pretty good. read more

Cute spot, good food with standard drink options. However, food quality didn't match the medium-to-high price, but the amount of food with each meal makes it basically worth it. Large and creative salad options, friendly staff. 2 stars off bc there were flies everywhere in the interior dining area by the bar. I dont know what they were attracted to (maybe the flowers on top of the piano??) but it was wildly irritating and pretty gross having flies buzzing around & landing on us, our table, our food. The restaurant on site was fancy and delicious. The room was victorian and beautiful. Although I heard that the hotel is "haunted" and the room I was put in is the haunted room I slept fine because I don't believe in such nonsense lol. Overall a great experience. read more

We've stayed at the Atlantic two years in a row now. You really can't ask for a better location in Berlin, it's on Main Street and only 10-15 minutes from either Assateague or Ocean City, and less than 5 to Burley Oak Brewery. Even in the height of summer it is a great place to stay because you really do feel like you are "getting away from it all" and the nights are quiet and dark--perfect for sleeping but if you want more nightlife, it is so close. The decor is old fashioned but well maintained and everything has been very clean. The front desk staff is always pleasant. There are balconies to sit on and rocking chairs out front. We received a free upgrade when we checked, due a hurricane, we were one of only 2 or 3 guests this week. The bed was comfy and the air conditioner worked great. The bathroom was a little small but very functional. The only drawback back to the room we had on this stay was that the shower would work fine sometimes but other times would go from cold to scalding without warning or touching the tap. The shower stall is quite small and glassed in so it was difficult to escape the burning water. We reported it so hopefully that will be taken care of! It could be quite dangerous for the elderly or a child. The other issue we had was with the cleaning woman. The first morning she stopped us as we were leaving and asked if we needed/wanted her to clean our room then. We asked her to wait to clean our room for about 15 minutes until we got back from the corner (picking up food) and that we wanted to get changed when we returned. When we arrived back just a few minutes later, she was in our room, the door was wide open, the sheets were stripped and she seemed very annoyed we were there. She then yelled at us that there was a stain(?!??) on the sheets so she had to change it. It was odd. She kept repeating that over and over very loudly. She told us to go wait somewhere and come back in 30 minutes when she was done. We didn't want to wait and we couldn't change for the beach with her standing there so we just left. I don't know why she asked if we were ready for her to clean the room if she was just going to do it the second we left anyway? And berating us loudly about some stain(??) seemed out of line. The same cleaning woman spent every morning (4 in a row!) loudly taking to someone in the hallway outside of our room for over 1 1/2 hrs starting at 8:30 AM. Now how I want to be woken up! We were the only people on that floor (I believe) yet she was there talking at top volume just hanging outside of our room. I guess she was waiting for us to leave? It was really annoying and stressful--we got up much earlier than we wanted to each day and left quickly so we didn't have to listen to her drone on. Not the relaxing mornings we wanted at all! All in all, we would go back and just hope for different cleaning staff. You really can't beat the location and the price is very competitive for the area, there are a lot of shabbier places within a 10-15 minute ride that are easily twice as much or more for the same night's stay. read more

Came here for lunch with some friends. It's located in the cute historic downtown area and had an elegant ambiance. I got the Buddha bowl which was delicious. It was topped with scallops and lychee which gave it a great flavor, and was dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. The service was quick and our waitress was very kind. We stumbled upon this place during a stroll through the coolest small town in America. I'm not sure whether it was the aura of vintage elegance that surrounds this place or sheer curiosity that made us stop. At any rate, I'm happy we did. The service and food were both excellent. I reallllllly wanted a stuffed shell crab, but they were all out. Instead, I went outside of my norm and chose the Chicken Scaloppini a la Pistachio. The prosciutto and pistachio threw the dish off a tad bit, but the wild mushrooms and tender chicken breast made up for it. All in all the dish was scrumptious. We will definitely be returning, this time my fingers are crossed they'll have the soft shell crab on hand. read more

This is a well-known restaurant in the area and typically has good food ( so I thought) however we were terribly disappointed in the meal we had last night. The potatoes and green beans were served too hard to even cut with a knife and fork.. My husband's chops were tough and my fish dry and unflavorful. The appetizer eggplant stack was very good and the their signature dessert the lemon frost was wonderful however we are very disappointed in the meal. Another customer sent their food back as well. The outdoor seating is lovely, but that is the best thing I can say about this place. Food was mediocre, service was dismal, and coronavirus protocols were not stringent. By comparison, we ate at the Blacksmith the previous night--there they temped you on entry and required sanitizer, had clear protocols for pouring water and handling menus, etc. Nothing of the sort here. Some of the servers weren't even covering their noses with their masks. My filet was not cooked to temp properly, we had to ask four times over 30 minutes for water refills and ketchup, my salad came out incorrectly, then it came out after my entree the second time, my son requested a lemonade we never received, and we waited 20 minutes for our drinks after ordering. It didn't appear to be busy, and it was well-staffed by the numbers. Would not go here again even for the lovely outdoor seating. read more

My friends and I were there recently for a birthday dinner. It was a beautiful evening and they were rather busy. I know help is hard to find right now but it did take quite a while to get our drinks. Not a big deal; however, one in my group is vegan. That was a BIG deal as they do not offer even a vegetarian optin, other than salad ! My friend ordered the veal parmesan but without the veal. She was told "we cannot do substitutions ". HUH? How is omitting an item a substitute? So my friend had the pasta sans the veal. When the check came she was charged full price .. are you kiding me? The waitress stomped off in a huff when questioned about this saying she had to ask her manager before she could make any price change. They took off $4 for the veal ..really .. $15 for basically a plate of pasta ? Ridiculous but more to the point , the Atlantic hotel should add some veggie options to their menu. Overall we had a nice time, the food was very good, service a tad slow which under the circumstances is expected. However the attitude was not! I will be back to give it another shot but without my vegan bud . read more

This review is for the hotel. This place is one of two places available to stay overnight in Berlin. My boyfriend and I were visiting Assateague and decided to stay here. We paid, I believe, around $140/night. We entered the room, which was just about big enough to fit a twin-sized bed and four feet of space on each side. That's not my gripe--my gripe is that THE ROOM SMELLED AWFUL. It smelled moldy and like moisture had permeated into every pore of the room. It was just BAD. I almost choked. I opened the window immediately but that didn't make very much of a difference. I get that you can afford to charge basically whatever you want when your competition is essentially nonexistent--but $140 for that room is highway robbery. I gave it an extra star because the lady at the front desk was a sweetheart. read more

My fiance and I stayed here for only 1 night because we were in town for a wedding. We booked it on the Thurs before Labor Day weekend and the price for one night was $140. For last minute on a holiday weekend, I was fine with that. Our first impression of Berlin, MD...wow, what a small town...but a very cute and charming town. The hotel was in the middle of this bustling metropolis. A Victorian type hotel with a nice big porch, people siting around drinking coffee, smoking cigars, chit chatting and reading. It looked like a big bed and breakfast. We called ahead and asked if we could get in the room earlier then the 4pm check in. The wedding was at 3pm and I obviously wanted to get dressed. No one likes to drive 3 hours in a suit. The staff was very accommodating and let us check in at 2pm. The room was small but clean and had a lot of character. Hard wood floors, black and white photos on the walls...just a great little room with a touch of technology. The 27" LCD mounted on the wall made me smile...even though we wouldn't be watching anything. The people staying at the hotel were all very nice with smiles and hellos all over as we walked through the halls filled with pictures of a Berlin MD that had never seen a car. We were only in MD for 20 hours...the wedding was 8hrs and 7 hours spent sleeping so, I can't give it a full 5 stars but I would not have any problem going back to this little time machine in the middle of nowhere. The people were great and staying there made me feel just a little more special then I know I already am. read more

I didn't stay at the hotel, so this review is only about the restaurant they have! I visited the adorable little town of Berlin, MD with some family this past Monday and we stopped here for lunch in their restaurant. I'm so glad we chose to eat here because the food was excellent! The restaurant itself was wonderful. It had a great atmosphere and lots of old-timey charm. It's a fine dining type of place, complete with the white linen table cloths and napkins. And, let's face it, any restaurant with a grand piano in the dining is a-okay with me. Too bad no one was playing during my visit. For my meal I chose the fish tacos. They were made with blackened mahi mahi, guacamole, cabbage, havarti cheese, and salsa. It was came with a side of avocado tortilla chips and a yummy salsa. Everything tasted DELICIOUS! I was very apprehensive about getting these because it was my first time trying fish tacos anywhere. I was not disappointed! My uncle had a cobb salad that looked great. One of my aunts chose an avocado veggie wrap with a cup of the Maryland crab soup. She enjoyed both. The other had the shrimp salad sandwich and it looked amazing. Everyone enjoyed their food. Pretty much all of the food that was being carried throughout the restaurant by the servers looked great. read more

I think it may be the tortilla chips (very salty) they use, but this is the only place where I will order crab dip as my main course and not really share with other people at the table. I love it that much. I've never been here for dinner, but I've heard good things -- but I also heard the menu completely changes and it gets much fancier and expensive. Enjoy eating on the screened-in porch or outside. Located in downtown Berlin, the scenery resembles something out of Leave It To Beaver or Pleasentville. Very iconic and stereotypical 1950 / 1960s. This review is for the restaurant, which I believe is still called Drummer's Cafe. We came for dinner the night of the monthly Berlin Art Stroll (2nd Friday of each month), so they were busy. Perhaps they were having an off night as a result. Although it was busy, we were still seated right away inside. The screened-in porch area would have been great on this night, because the weather was so beautiful. But, at least they could seat us. We got to listen to a live pianist, and we had a good time guessing all the songs he was playing. We ended up ordering 3 appetizers off of the light fare menu, one as an appetizer and two as "entrees". The calamari was first. Nothing special, and I didn't like any of the three sauces. One was sweet and spicy, one was asian (heavy on the sesame oil), and one was a lackluster marinara. We ordered a shrimp salad platter and crab dip as "entrees", but it took us forever to receive them. Like I said, maybe it was an "off" night. The waiter never came by to say what was taking so long and never asked us how everything was, either. Anyway, the crab dip was very rich and tasted good, but had too little crab for me. Hubby enjoyed his shrimp salad platter. I wouldn't say that either appetizer was anything other than average. So overall, I'd say "Meh". But considering their good reputation, I'd try this place again. Maybe we'll try the fine dining menu next time. read more

Recommended by a local friend, we decided to check out Berlin during our stay in Ocean City. It was less than 10 miles from our hotel. After looking at a few restaurant menus, we chose DRUMMER'S CAFE in the Atlantic Hotel for a late lunch. It took a while to get service as there was no one standing by the podium. Finally a woman passing by said we could seat ourselves at any table with napkins and utensils. We sat at a table in the screened porch and were shortly greeted by our waiter. We had the Crab Cake Soup and two Specials - Battered & Fried Soft Crab Sandwich and Grouper Fish Tacos. See pictures. Food was very delicious! Only drawback were the overly salty chips that came with the tacos. We also wanted to try their in house dessert but by the end of the meal, our waiter disappeared for 10 minutes at a time. Quaint venue in "Americas Coolest Small Town. We sat outside which would have been pleasant except for the attendees of bike week. Both my husband and I ordered the seafood combo. Crab cake, shrimp, and scallops. Being assured by our server, Trisha, they were lump filled and light on filler. Neither was the case. One of my three shrimp was not completely deveined (my pet peeve). Veggie medley was well cooked yet cold. The scallops were good. My tea remained unfilled for too long. Live entertainment included a guitar/ singer duo. In all honesty a wounded cat would have been more pleasant to listen to. This is for the Drummers Cafe inside the Atlantic Hotel.. The place is decorated so elegantly, but it's equally as casual. You can dress up and fit in or wear your fave jeans. Ordered the pulled pork grilled cheese and it was so crunchy delicious! Went there on a weekday evening. Around 7:00. Three adults. Ambiance is nice. My wife ordered Salmon medium-well and my sister-in-law ordered salmon medium. I had the scallops. It took a very loooong time for the food to arrive and the restaurant was not very busy, so it seemed there was no real excuse. It took a while to be offered drinks. The ladies ordered a bottle of wine, and I had a martini. We finally ordered, my wife wanting the salmon medium well, the sister-in-law wanting salmon medium rare, and I ordering the scallops. We asked for bread to have while we waited for the entrees. A little while later, we asked for the bread again as none had arrived. The bread did arrive. When the food arrived, there was no attempt to get the differently-cooked salmon to the correct person. In looking at the fish, we could see no discernible difference in how done the two fish were. After our meal we ordered two desserts and they arrived without much of a time delay. When we left we compared notes. I felt my scallops were just ok; not very tasty. The ladies said the same for the salmon. The green beans were yummy. The desserts were just so so. Just bland. This is a higher priced place, so I would expect better service and much better food. If we have another experience like this next summer, we will just pass on this place. Too far to go for a middling meal at a high price. read more

Came here for NYE dinner after my family raved about it the year before. Because of the experience we had this year, I wouldn't be surprised if a kitchen staff member (or a few) quit mid-night. Our waiter was upfront with details like, they ran out of water glasses and weren't sure when they could serve us water and how they lost a tray of lobster tails and were trying to locate it. All of our meals came out at different times and items were forgotten (apparently our check was lost in the back). We ordered the surf and turf, which was extremely undercooked and came out cold. Not to mention, for the premium price we were paying, the steak tasted like iron and the crab cake had minimal flavor. Because of the issues in the kitchen, our waiter was distracted and unfortunately never came back to offer us refills on drinks or water. He was extremely apologetic and tried to rectify the situation, which we appreciated very much, but overall, we are so disappointed with our experience. read more

It's a nice venue for drinks and people watching in the center of town. Appetizer of calamari was delicious but the main meal of their organic mushroom pasta was disappointing. We landed at the Atlantic unexpectedly when a nearby B&B ghosted us. Front-desk manager was welcoming and empathetic. This is a delightfully atmospheric place to stay if you're open to adventure and don't have modern "boutique hotel" expectations. Hallways and rooms feel like stepping back in time -- this is a place the support staff for Downton Abbey-type aristocrats would have stayed. Everything is lovingly maintained, which must be a lot of work but sets the stage for a slow-paced experience (a small sitting area on the landing of our floor was set with a polished silver service as if a family from bygone days had just had tea). Rooms are furnished in antiques, so expect a quirky, authentic feel. Ours was quiet, dark and perfect for a good night's sleep. Bed was super comfy with high-quality linens. Bathroom had 80s-90s style fixtures, but was freshly painted, wallpapered and floored, and everything was spotlessly clean. We didn't eat meals here, so can't provide a full review, but the front porch looks a relaxing place to eat, sip a bevvy, and people watch. The town of Berlin seems to prioritize community over tourism and is sleepy in a delightful way, like Lewes 5 years ago before Rehoboth threw up on it. We will return. read more

The four of us came to visit Berlin on a Saturday afternoon and decided to have lunch at the Atlantic. There was a small wedding going on, so space was a little limited as the wedding was taking up the bar area and the patio was full, so we ate across the hall from the bar in what could be a great little room for a private party. Food was outstanding ... from a simple chef's special grilled cheese sandwich to crab cakes to a terrific Caesar's salad with chicken. We were all happy with our choices and service didn't suffer at all during what was obviously a busy time. Highly recommended and we can't wait to come back and visit Berlin again. read more

We had a great stay here over Christmas. The hotel is beautiful, and has all the amenities. It feels like staying in a 19th century upscale waystop....but with WiFi! A huge storm hit while we were there, and it was so very cozy, and they were great giving us all we needed. We will definitely come back. read more

The staff was so accommodating to us, we came in on our bikes soaked from the rain at 11am with no reservation and they put us in a room right away and even let us use their dryer for all our wet clothes. Us Californians DREAM of the Atlantic Inn and Drummers Cafe when we come back to San Francisco from our summer vacation in Ocean City. The food is as good if not better than 90% of the restaurants here. There is nothing better than stopping in mid afternoon on a hot summer day, for an ICE cold Evolution #3, some nachos, and the freaking amazing eggplant tower with the pink caper sauce. You WILL be asking for bread to sop up any remaining pink sauce. The salads are super fresh, the fried green tomatoes are juicy and tart...the bartenders are hilarious. Oh, and sometimes there is live music! Last time we were there, two kids set up on the front porch and were playing Johnny Cash music. What a sweet time and place to be. read more
