Our granddaughter got married and had her reception at NewHill on 5/22/26. We were the first wedding under the club's new ownership. This was a large wedding that utilized the pond area for the ceremony, the deck for the open bar & appetizer hour and the large ballroom for the reception. Everything was flawless and that says a lot when there were many new employees, chefs & cooks, bartenders and management testing their skills for the first time. The original booking was with the previous ownership under the Hillside brand and we worried about the transition. Believe us when we tell you that there was no need to worry. The whole day was perfect. NewHill Country Club has completely erased any previous experience you may have had when they were Hillside.

When we pulled into the large parking lot, there was a sign that said "Course Advisory: Temporary Conditions Improvements Underway OPEN for the season" - from then I knew I was in for a surprise. My friend got a cart for himself, but I prefer to walk so his total for 9 holes + cart was $41 and my total for 9 holes no cart was $30. As a golfer who only plays for fun and likes bird watching, I was awestruck at hole 1 when I watched three flocks of Canada geese fly a couple feet above my head to successfully touchdown into the pond nearby. A couple holes were in okay shape, but the majority were pretty beat up, with lots of crab grass, exposed dry dirt, and weeds on the fairway, cracks and sand on the greens, and missing women's tee indicators (holes 3 and 4). After poorly teeing off at hole 8 (a combination of skill and grass being too tall), my friend grew very frustrated and we decided to call it quits. The course has potential. Apparently, they're under new management so they plan on doing a complete makeover; I look forward to coming back in a couple years once the renovations are complete. I think they should have definitely charged less considering the conditions that course was in, somewhere around $20 was more fair.

Many of the holes are challenging due to pin placement, sand, and water traps. There are no golf carts, you walk the course, which is very scenic and relaxing! A couple can play 9 holes, and rent a pull or push cart for your clubs, for a total of about $40.00 dollars! There are vending machines, but not a legitimate 19th hole. . You will have to hit one of the many nearby restaurants for a cocktail and bite to eat when you finish playing. Great bargain, beautiful setting to enjoy a nice day of nature and golf!

The ceremony location, the cocktail hour and reception are in an awesome spot, The problem is when you get to cocktail hour, the bar area is a mess. I waited 20 minutes for two drinks, the waiter/waitresses have no sense of who is next in line and work only one end of the bar instead of end to end. After receiving my double fisters- meaning I had to order us both two drinks one round because I couldn't bother to wait in line again- we sat out on the patio area. It was nice up until a golf ball smoked the window outside next to us. At that point thank god the reception started it was beautiful. Up until food starting being served. Instead of the staff going around from table to table ordering the food that some requested before bribing it out..., they brought the food out and I hilariously observed the old lady staff yell at the people standing at the bar to sit down. Just so they could figure out what they ordered when they sent in the mail invitation. This place is as gorgeous and can improve for the next wedding!

The course and the grounds were gorgeous, clean and well maintained. You could tell why some of the best golfers in the world come to play in this tournament. Food was pretty standard but i was glad that they had a "meal deal" for MasterCard users as well as turkey sandwich and a vegetarian option. What they will get you on is water - my husband and I could not find one fountain during our entire time at the TPC - so be prepared to pay for it. I also recommend getting there early, even the some of the "lesser" players in this tournament are some of the best in the world. It's one of the few places that you can be less then 5 feet away from Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson. One note about "Tiger" watching - if you plan on doing so, stake out a spot at least 1 hour before he is scheduled to tee off. That is the ONLY way to get a glimpse of him. Then be prepared to walk, walk fast and be surrounded by throngs of other spectators. We were able to keep up with him for about half the round but it got to a certain point where there were so many following him by the time we got to the hole he was on to the next one.

The greens are in pretty good shape, though a little bumpy on the back. Overall, I though the turf was in nice shape. There are some interesting tee shots. I found lots of bunkers. Not a great day for yours truly, but it was a beautiful 70 degrees out and I played OK. (shot a 90) I'd go back if I were in the area - it's an hr from my home. I paid the super discounted rate of $24 on golfnow.com and you can too. Just look for hot deals. I wouldn't have minded paying another $15 or so. It's probably worth double what I paid. (or more)
