I made this Yelp account just so I could review the awesome service I had here. I had been experiencing some squealing from my new (pre-owned) vehicle for some time. The retailer checked it out and concluded there was nothing wrong with it. I wasn't convinced, and eventually took it to Mike at Atlantic Car Care. He checked it out and gave me all the options, telling me that they could replace the brakes (which still had a lot of life on them and likely wouldn't fix the squealing), or just leave it as is. Gave me lots of information on the brake pads and how squealing can be natural with certain types of pads. He didn't even charge me for the diagnostic. They treated me with the utmost kindness and professionalism, and I will definitely be back. read more

Yeah, this is a 5 star garage. Very satisfied with all the work I've had done here and unlike many other mechanics in town (Nuewirth, Wilmington Auto) they aren't total lying shysters. The owner Mike is always on site working and is friendly and knowledgeable. On my last repair (oil change and headlamp replacement) it took a while longer than was initially quoted but communication was great along the way and the secondary timetable was met. Sometimes delays happen but keeping the customer in the dark is never the right way to go. Thankfully, Atlantic Car Care understands that. Car repairs can be such a headache - especially around here, apparently - so I'm super grateful to have found a good, honest garage and want to spread the word! read more

Can't really comment on the work done, the things I asked to be done seem to be fine. I would comment on 1) their communication and 2) their response to COVID-19. On the latter I didn't see a single person wearing a mask. Now I would imagine wearing while working is frustrating if not impractical bu, for the customer's peace of mind I think wearing a mask at the front desk and greeting customers is not to much to ask. As for communication it left a lot to be desired. I made an appointment for 8Am and when I arrived the man and I went over a list of things I wanted worked on/checked. He told me they'd look at it and get back to me. I had to call @ 3Pm to check status. I was told they were behind and they'd contact me in about an hour. I didn't hear a thing until 10Am the next day. It's a good thing I dropped the car off and wasn't waiting for it. read more

We stopped by to check out a leak on our car and they got us in quick and were very nice. He showed us what the issue was and gave us some options. The O-ring around the drain plug was going out and not worth draining all the oil to replace so he gave it a quick tighten and sent us in our way. read more

The short: These guys were great. The service was quick, everyone was friendly, and my car even ended up being cheaper than their estimate because a part was less expensive than they expected. They even sent me a $20 gift card in the mail after my service was done. I will go back and would recommend them to anyone. Details: I am happy with the service and value that I got from Atlantic Car Care. My check engine light was on so I called them and I was able to bring my car in right away. The man I talked to was really nice and explained everything well. When they told me what was wrong, I thought it sounded like something I had recently gotten fixed at another mechanic in Durham (and was still under warranty) so I wanted to make sure. I couldn't find my record of what had been fixed before so the guy at Atlantic Car Care called my other mechanic and asked what was done just to make sure my check engine light wasn't on for the same thing that I could have fixed for free under the warranty at the other mechanic, aka they were willing to give up the business to make sure I got the right job done. Last summer our car was having electric issues. I took my car to the dealership, they hooked it up to a computer and could not figure out the problem. So they decided it needed a new alternator (cost of 750.00) took it another franchise type shop they said it need (500.00) work. Now I spent over $1000 in cash and still was having major issues. We took it to Mike. They researched the problem and for $100 problem was resolved. We now use only Atlantic Car Care for oil changes, tune ups, inspections and brakes. I use Yelp a lot to find recommendations and see what others have to say about businesses. I never fully joined because I'd never felt compelled enough to write a review. Now I do. I'll try to make this long story short. A few months back, I needed an oil change immediately because I was going out of town the next day. My mechanic wasn't available last minute so I called around. Went to Atlantic Car Care. I was the only one there. Took 2 hours. When they told me it was ready, I got a 20 minute sales pitch on the 10+ repairs I "needed" to do that totaled over $2,000. I said no. Just recently, I took my car into my mechanic for something. They called me a couple hours later and asked where I got my oil changed last because oil filter hadn't been changed. They had noticed a leak and did some investigating. It was the same filter MY mechanic put in two oil changes ago. I looked at my receipt from Atlantic Car Care. Yep, I was charged for a new one. Also, my car requires synthetic oil. My mechanic said they didn't put that in either. So then, I took the list of repairs that ACC recommended to have my mechanic see what they thought. Out of the 10+ items, they agreed with 3.
