I hired Timothy Leary (WSBA# 30355) in July 2015 to represent me in a criminal case. This was the…read moreWORST DECISION OF MY LIFE, I have regretted it every day since. Sorry this is very long but there is so much wrong with what happened. Do not consider him for representation, you too will regret it. You have been warned. Here is why, - He failed to meet the professional standards of conduct in the following ways: - He was unresponsive to communications sent both over email and over the phone. We had to schedule meetings with him twice (On October 22, 2015 and another time) to address the concerns with his unresponsiveness and not meeting the commitments he made, as well as the total lack of progress with my case. - He delayed the scheduling of the trial in the case 10 times despite my desire to progress with the case. Being charged in this case caused me to lose my job and his further delay caused me to not be able to continue with my life. - He showed up late to almost ALL of the court hearings. - On October 15, 2015 he showed up so late to the hearing that the court wrote a warrant for my arrest since he was not there to announce us as present. (Attorneys you pay should HELP you with your situation, not make it worse) He was unapologetic about these actions. - There was further unnecessary delay of the case due to his neglect and mistakes: Leary's reason for delaying the scheduling of the trial on October 15th, 2015 was that he wanted to get copies of the electronics seized in this case by the police. At that point he had been representing me for THREE months and should have already completed these requests, especially since he considered this to be critical prior to scheduling the trial of the case. - He never updated me on the availability of the forensic copies until January 2016. At that time it became clear that he had only requested a copy of one of the devices that was seized when we needed a copy of all of the devices. The police department was able to provide this copy to Leary but never received a response from him as to when it would be picked up. - Dishonesty regarding the investigation: The police had obtained traffic video capturing a portion of what happened that would have been helpful to my case, I asked Leary to request the police for those videos to make sure there was a separate request sent to the police by us for any relevant evidence in the case that may have been forgotten. HE CONFIRMED TO ME THAT HE MADE THE REQUEST TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT but was not able to get any more videos than what had already been provided in the discovery. I later made a public disclosure request to the police department regarding all of the public disclosure requests made regarding the traffic camera videos or the incident and there was no record of a request from Leary! He blatantly lied about his work on my case........ - In February 2016 after waiting for months, Tim Leary finally agreed to move the case to trial. The trial was scheduled to start in March 2016. As of March 10th I notified him of all of the grievances regarding his performance, and the fact that he still had not interviewed any of the witnesses in the case and we only had 20 days until the trial. He responded with a summary of my case regarding the facts that he knew when taking it on in July 2015. This letter demonstrated Leary did not perform an investigation or any other work on his part and I was forced to terminate him as my attorney. - Considering the complete lack of work on his part to investigate or even move the case along I requested him to pay back $14,000 that he received to cover all the work leading to the trial. - - He never responded to me and never provided any payment back. - After terminating Leary as my attorney he was extremely slow with handing over the entire case file to my new attorney. It took several emails, phone calls and weeks for my new attorney to get all of the records back. - It is my personal belief that Mr. Leary must have been overbooked with other cases, has major personal obstacles, or is incompetent. - He never apologized or described what caused his behavior. -Timothy Leary also had his "forensic guy" work on my case, I authorized $300 to $400 for this, I was shocked when I received a bill over $3,000 in order to receive the copy of my hard drive back. My experience with Timothy Leary was horrible and I would not recommend his services to anyone.

I had an issues with an insurance claim, them denying my claim even though they couldn't prove they weren't liable. I was very clear from the start that my moving company made the insurance with the insurance company and that I did not have any documentation regarding the Pick-Up but only regarding my Drop-Off. 1. Phone consultation with Maureen, of course she can't predict the outcome but the consultation was quite specific as to know if there was a strong case, which she said there was, she also said the proof of being liable or not, was on the insurance company side that's why they have investigators. 2. Philip Haas calls, I find out that Maureen is not my lawyer but he will be, never spoke to him before and with a non-disclosed speech impediment that makes communication hugely hard (first bad sign, she should have contacted me telling me and asking if that was ok before taking a non refundable deposit). 3. You would think that if you change your clients lawyer without consulting with the client you'd provide every bit of information that very client provided you; NO, not the case, Philip Haas started doing his own without even consulting first and knowing half of the case; I got mad and made him aware of it and he apologized saying Maureen didn't send him the info (hugely unprofessional and once again a very bad sign); because I did send details by email there were no way you could dispute it so he wrote off what he charged me so far with whatever he did without consulting me first and then made out a strategy plan with me starting from zero (that was well appreciated but not encouraging). 4. If you know the case and set up a strategy but then a month later forget about details regarding that case...VERY BAD SIGN. Philip Haas blamed it on the fact they just had a new born and thanked me for reminding him the details of my case and because of that now he would re-contact the insurance company (he should have done that immediately as soon as he got another "claim denied"). 5. Out of the blue turns out that the burden of proof that the insurance company is liable or not, is on me and not on the insurance company so even though the insurance company can't prove they aren't liable, I have to prove they are by providing documents of the truck and driver that did my pick-up... SURPRISE! So my lawyer knowing from the start I did not have any documents alike as I specified from the beginning with Maureen, at the very end let's me know I have the burden of proof which, not having documents is clear that there is no case at all then, that's just common sense right? ... can you prove in a very specific way who the driver and truck type is? NO, you don't have a case, so why on earth would you take a case knowing there is no case? Because you mislead and was there for the money OR just were hugely incompetent not knowing what you were doing. Philip Haas insists they didn't mislead, which can be true but that just means they were hugely incompetent then, which one is it? A. The insurance company have to prove they are not liable and if they can't the burden for compensation is on them at least partially. (Maureen) -" knowing I didn't have documentation to prove specifics regarding the pick-up driver and truck type. Or B. You have to prove the insurance company is liable (even though you were insured) in order for them to compensate you by providing documents of who the driver and truck type was (Philip) Both are contradicting each other and therefore misleading or simply pure incompetence in the matter. Federal court? That was an option it would just have been hugely costly and time consuming and no guarantee of anythings pf course. Bad experience and a huge waste of money!

The moment I wrote her a cashier check, she checked out and gave me excuses after excuses such as busy, in a meeting, in court, with kid, with dog, on vacation, on coffee breaks, traffic, etc. Because I was referred to her from another guy I've decided to give her benefit of the doubt, all 3.5 months of it. I highly regretted my decision of giving her the benefit of the doubt. I should have fired her the moment she rushed me out of her office as I handed over the cashier check. She won't even setup meetings until I requested it. When I had the first meeting it was with her associate and they don't even know what my case was about. When I asked for status of the case, she told me I have to "trust her". She also refuse to response to any mean of communication regarding the status of the case and threaten the only person that gets in the way was me in the case. She told me she doesn't like my behavior of asking for status of my case. Late to court and every meeting. The paralegal/secretary won't even state it's a law office when called and barely wanted to answer any calls. When I did get to meet, any question I asked turned into an argument and turned into a sales pitch and bragging about her past cases even though it was completely irrelevant to my case. Bottom line is if you want to get swindled, retain her. If not there are countless of more honest and competent attorneys out there. Even public defendant will do 100x better than her! The bar is easy to clear when she just take your money and run. Representing yourself would be a million time better than going thru the headaches I've endured with her. She also won't refund money and told me she doesn't need to refund anything per her lopsided contract agreement even though she hasn't done a thing.
